How to lock the bootloader? - Moto G Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello guys i am a Moto G xt1032 user and i tried to update my phone from 5.0.2 to 5.1.1( i think ). However i wasn't able to suceed at this task for some reason , from what i know it is because of the fact that my moto g is unlocked right now . So I would appreciate if someone could tell me how to to relock it with simple english because i don't know much about theese things . I tried searching other threads but i want to be sure to be given the right instructions for my xt1032 and android version 5.0.2.Thanks for your time .

If you are asking about receiving OTA locked or unlocked makes no difference, but you must have stock recovery.

[Q] Confuse about Booloader & Rooting

Hey Guys, I decide to unlock the bootloader and root my Moto G so i start to read about it and preparing everything to do it in my pc (drivers, etc)
But when i start to read de Resource Guide Thread in the General forum i read something that confuse me specifically in the Root part that says:
"If you do not have or do not wish to unlock your bootloader then you can opt for @oasoas014 's method ( http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2583652 ) of bootloader downgrade. You may also visit @Cooptx's more detailed guide ( http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2585755 ) . Note, with the most recent recoveries, you do not need to downgrade your bootload"
But reading the @Cooptx's method says that need unlock bootloader, i really dont understand the @oasoas014 's method but reading all the comments says also that i need unlock bootloader.
So im kinda confuse here, is that im not reading well? or i just need to unlock it? someone can give me a strait answer?
You must unlock bootloader if you want root, there is not other solution for moto g atm. Maybe in future there will be an exploit to root bypassing bootloader like on moto x but not now.
Thanks you, the info is kinda confuse, im gonna put me in to work. Hope eveything goes well

It's not that much work and Motorola makes it really easy to unlock the bootloader If you still need some help or run into trouble let us know!
hey
i tried to unlock bootloader via motorola web site but it says my device does not qualify for unlocking
tried flashing recoveries, root zips and updated to official kitkat, but still does not work
phoned motorola support and they said motorola doesn't guarantee bootloaded getting unlocked, it depends on luck
any suggestion?

At first I would like to say that unlocking bootloader and rooting always involves risk of bricking your devices. It all depends upon you whether you want to enjoy the freedom of being root user or not. There are many fools who root their devices without properly reading manual and the steps. There are many tutorials for safely rooting your devices..There are many forums regarding the unbrick and restoring the stock roms...If you properly follow the steps and measures then there is no way you can fail.
I used the link to root by moto g .Hope it will work for you..

hi thanks a lot for reply . im not really a newbie . i owned lenovo a516 and galaxy fit s5670 and installed custom roms and never brick them even soft brick . the thing scares me with my moto is that i found huge number of persons brick their phone . the link u gave says about xt1045 and i own xt1039 . is their risk ? my main question is if the unlocking process failed due to indequate files will this brick the phone or simple doesnt unlock and boot normally ?
i found some people had problems even doing a factory reset (after unlocking and playin with custom roms )
i want to unlock only because i want official cyanogenmod . so i will just flash one time

Its sure that the phone will not boot up if you messed up with bootloader .Because bootloader is the main component in starting up the phone. It may cause soft brick or hard brick depending upon your action.Sorry for the above link ..I think may be this for sure.

You can do what ever you want to do my friend It is very easy to root and unlock the N5 and when 5.1 comes and you want to try it out, you can always flash the factory image.

First thing I'd do is unlock the bootloader. That wipes your device and might as well as get that out of the way before you load a bunch of stuff on it.

thanks guys ...unlocked bootloader and did chainfire auto root...

How to root the Moto G? (Also, can't unlock bootloader!)

So I'm having questions and issues with my Moto G. (XT1032)
1. Is there any way to root the Moto G without unlocking the bootloader? I'm having issues unlocking it (next issue).
2. I can't seem to unlock the bootloader on the Moto G. I'm trying to install CyanogenMod but when I go to unlock it on the Motorola website and put the unlock code from adb/fastboot, it says My phone's bootloader can't be unlocked!
So if you have any idea how to help me, please reply.
EDIT: Don't recommend me to flash a recovery like TWRP or ClockWork Mod Recovery. I need to unlock the bootloader. (I think)
Make 100% sure are putting the code in to the website with NO spaces.
I'm not aware of a way to root without unlocking.
Thanks so much!
Yeah depends what version of moto g you have as Motorola won't unlock certain ones... And seems like yours is one that can't be
Actually, it was a weird thing with the unlock code from fast boot having random spaces when I paste it into the checker, but now my Moto G is running CM12.1 with Root! Thanks a lot everyone!
