Hey Guys, I decide to unlock the bootloader and root my Moto G so i start to read about it and preparing everything to do it in my pc (drivers, etc)
But when i start to read de Resource Guide Thread in the General forum i read something that confuse me specifically in the Root part that says:
"If you do not have or do not wish to unlock your bootloader then you can opt for @oasoas014 's method ( http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2583652 ) of bootloader downgrade. You may also visit @Cooptx's more detailed guide ( http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2585755 ) . Note, with the most recent recoveries, you do not need to downgrade your bootload"
But reading the @Cooptx's method says that need unlock bootloader, i really dont understand the @oasoas014 's method but reading all the comments says also that i need unlock bootloader.
So im kinda confuse here, is that im not reading well? or i just need to unlock it? someone can give me a strait answer?
You must unlock bootloader if you want root, there is not other solution for moto g atm. Maybe in future there will be an exploit to root bypassing bootloader like on moto x but not now.
Thanks you, the info is kinda confuse, im gonna put me in to work. Hope eveything goes well

It's not that much work and Motorola makes it really easy to unlock the bootloader If you still need some help or run into trouble let us know!
hey
i tried to unlock bootloader via motorola web site but it says my device does not qualify for unlocking
tried flashing recoveries, root zips and updated to official kitkat, but still does not work
phoned motorola support and they said motorola doesn't guarantee bootloaded getting unlocked, it depends on luck
any suggestion?

Hello, my moto g is a locked bootloader, if I change the rom it, I'll get it unlock?
You have to unlock the bootloader first from here if you have a Moto G https://motorola-global-portal.cust...e/bootloader/unlock-your-device-a/action/auth.
Yea in order to install a ROM you have unlock the bootloader, and no installing a custom ROM won't unlock it you have to use the site above to unlock it. If you have a phone locked to any tariff like T-Mobile you won't be able to unlock it even if you unlock the Sim due to the addictions in the software and you will get a message "device not available" or something like this. So you can use guides available on the internet to solve this.

You can`t flash anything if you have a locked bootloader, not even a factory image and certainly not a custom rom. What is the problem on the Motorola site, could you post a screenshot when you try unlocking the bootloader via that site?

Well I haven`t unlocked my Moto (and probably won`t) but maybe you could try following this tutorial to the letter http://xperiahtcrootingrom.com/unlock-motorola-moto-g-bootloader/ or else Google around for users with your similar issue.
thanks for the support, I'll try this link.
wrap your head after a bit I decided to risk it all, I had a rom americamovil br ( claro Brazil ), this did not allow unlock the bootloader, so I installed the fastboot one retail rom Brazil, and yes I got this unlock the bootloader , noting that the risk of losing the IMEI is great, so think carefully before deciding to do the process.

I have heard it mentioned that you can temporarily root the ATT/AIO/Cricket XT1045 on Android 4.4.4, but not permanently (yet). I have no idea how, though.
Can someone help us out?
I had an hour or so long talk with an AT&T employee who actually knew what they were talking about. I believe due to restrictions in ATT tech chat, he was unable to post either links or straight out tell me how to do it, but he said that it is very possible.
Perhaps people should try logging into their AT&T account and using the tech chat to see what someone can come up with.
Has any progress been made on this? I have XT1045 from Cricket Wireless (owned by AT&T) and the bootloader is not unlockable using the conventional method.

OK. Here I go. Sorry I'm kind of new to XDA. I too have a xt1045 and I just unlocked the boot loader and I too am on ATT.
I bought my phone from Motorola unlocked, idk if ATT or cricket or whatever carrier sells them unlocked too. That may affect bootloader unlocking since you may need an unlocked device to see unlock boot loader.
Now down to the bootloader code.
Make sure you are copying the code correctly from the command prompt. I think the first time I tried to unlock bootloader, I may have copied wrong or something like that. Also, I have heard reports of people retrying, have their devices verified, and getting a code to unlock bootloader. Hopefully that is the case for you guys and unlocking is a viable option.
Hope I helped
Feel free to ask me question about unlocking the bootloader.
I haven't rooted yet and I am getting ready for that.
FYI: you we're able to unlocked your bootloader only because you purchased your device directly from Motorola. The rest of us who purchased from a carrier are F*CKED.

Yeah except i was only replying to him saying if you got your moto G from a carrier it's locked always your f**ked , and that aint so ..
And I didn't say carrier unlocked uh I got it from a carrier new , so yeah soon as I opened the box and entered bootloader it said unlocked yes and no warning screen upon boot either saying this device has been unlocked .
For you guys with At&T-XT1045 or any try this k , Lemme know if it worked
1.) Unlink your Device from motorola ID which means dont be signed in from your device in settings menu -unlink it & don't log in with your google account neithaa dawg.
2.) Unlink from motorola site if needed if option is there
3.) Sign into website and drag the entire policy bar to the bottom (like you read it in entirety) click I agree and check for key eligibility again
4.) Try again with IE 11 if you haven't used it already
5.) recheck your string letter for freakin letter removes all spaces make sure you include # signs try one more time.. There are 4-5 spaces when you just copy/paste the string so paste the code into notepad with any extra spaces deleted please.
See here from about 3:00 on -->> https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YjsO7t5ulhw
6.) If all that failed spend $25 get http://theroot.ninja/ ( for only 5.01 or lower - doesn't work on 5.02 I heard)
7.) If all else has failed head to thee motorala-forumwhere they are informing moto G owners to send email with their fastboot oem get_unlock_data + fastboot getvar al, and they should be able to accomodate you..
8.) Proceed to adb Sideload or Flash This Total Sauciness Either Way Moto G 2014 Owners

Does not work for me, i have Moto G 4G XT1045 from ATT.
Anyone tried to Flash another firmware? i will try that i'll bring news here, hope my IMEI don't desappear :/
Grettings!
Ok, I am new to this forum so please excuse me if I posted this incorrectly or if there might be another thread similar! (I tired searching but could not find anything so please don't scorn me )
So this is my problem...
I have the Moto G 2013 Verizon Non-Dev (XT1028) that I am sick and tired of seeing "lollipop will be coming soon!" But it being a non-dev edition it does not qualify for Motorola's Official Bootloader Unlock. I searched everywhere on YouTube (yeah, yeah, not the reliable...) and Google on how to root and bootloader unlock but none of those things have helped me. Let me cut to the chase!
Basically I am on 4.4.4
~~~Rooting~~~
It requires my bootloader to be unlocked
~~~Unlocking Bootloader (unofficially)~~~
Using Sunshine~
"Your device has to be rooted in order to check for compatibility. " (not the exact message but the gist is I cant unlock because I don't have root)
So with those two being in mind are there anyways to bypass one or the other? I'm stuck in an infinite loop between being able to root requires a bootloader unlock and the bootloader unlock requires a root to do... Any known ways to root 4.4.4 without bootloader unlock OR unlock my bootloader officially or unofficially?
P.S. This is my first post as well so I'm not sure if my random babbling helped explain so if any information is needed I can try to provide it! Thanks for any help and suggestions
Hello everyone! I didn't want to root my new MOTO G 2015 but I need more storage if I want to install more app's, I saw with root permissions we can transfer full sized app's to the sd, is it true? and how? I've seen already a guide how to root moto g 2015, but know I want to know how to transfer full sized app's to the SD and then i'll decide if I want to root or not.
Do you think I should root? It will be better If i want more storage?
Is it safe? The Lollipop will be automatically installed after the root? I have no need on install other Android OS.
Thank you!
Hey! I can see that you are new here, but rooting your phone isnt gonna delete anything of your data if you search on this forum for Link2sd than you will find a tuturial for how to do that. But if you dont understand any of the words "Brick" or "fastboot" you should do some research first.
success!

Hello HelpMeruth! And thank you for replying my question!
Here's what I already searched this is , i've got alot of information already but the information I got says my phone will be formatted I think. Brick I remember that word a long time ago when the PSP Scene I know it's not android but I remember it, it's like having a non funcional phone, bricked.
Here's the guide I saw: (I can't post links, if you can search on the youtube : "Moto G 3rd Gen(2015) - How to Root - Unlock Bootloader & Custom Recovery") and tell me if that guide will not brick or format my moto g 3
Any chance of getting bricked? It will remove my SIM Service? I have the phone just for a week and the warranty it's 2 here's, If I root the warranty goes out, is it worth rooting?
Thanks for the reply sir and yes i'm really new in the android scene, just came from the iOS one, got mad at iOS
I can confirm that your phone will not be formatted
The word brick means that your phone wont start up.
Its a gamble for everyone to root, so when you are gonna do it try just booting Twrp. That is the safest way to test it.
But strart with unlocking your bootloader thats already a big step for rooting (unlocking bootloader will format your data!)
If you got any questions send me message!
Its your choise to root or not

You do NOT need to unlock bootloader in order to root.
You DO need to unlock your bootloader for TWRP, unless booted temporarily.

You shouldnt be able to root with a locked bootloader, i quote: 'A locked bootloader locks write access to several partitions like the system partition. This is the reason why rooting is not able without unlocked bootloader.' found on this site https://www.quora.com/What-are-the-main-differences-between-Rooting-and-Unlocking-Bootloader
that tool just has a build in fastboot/adb and automate things for you.

Installing cyanogenmod will still keep you on 5.1.1 your device will just be modified (custom tweaks etc..) so if you have to unlock your bootloader it will void any warranties you have. If you don't have one or don't care just make sure to read carefully as you sound relatively new to CM and you don't want to brick your device.

The process to unlock again is identical as the first time, if you still have the code you can still use the same one or go through Moto's website to get it again.
Note that some users have stated that if they unlock, then re-lock, unlocking again doesn't work (it worked fine for me though)... And I think one user had an issue where it bricked trying to unlock again but I could be foggy on that one.
