Any way to change boot splash screen? - HTC One A9

I am on sprint, 6.0.1, rooted and S-OFF, and I know S-OFF is needed to modify the partition the boot splash is on.

You ever figure this out lol I'd like to know as well

My bro has the same phone that I do. He bricked his phone by flashing the aboot.img, so idk if I want to take the chance.

I don't think I will haha

I used the method posted by @The_scam. It works like a charm and does not touch aboot or any bootloader-critical partitions (the splash image is a separate partition).

Thanks, not to say your wrong, but just fyi, it actually modifies a small file in the boot.img I believe.

If your instructions are followed properly, download mode will flash the contents of splash1.nb0 to the "sp1" partition (mmcblk0p14 on my A9, likely for all A9 variants) and nothing else. The splash partition is then called by the Android kernel very early in init.

Yes, I am, and it works perfectly along with the bootanimation. (It goes well since I've enabled Google Assistant.) I may or may not make one of my own...just depends on if I come up with a good idea and enough time to put it together.
Back on topic: Yes, splash screen can be changed (easily and fairly safely) if you're s-off. See @The_scam's tutorial here.

Splash screen?

I really want this splash screen but also dont feel like turning m,y phone into a paperweight. can we use the custom splash screens?
You can do it, but I wouldn't use the insturctions he has there. I have another thread somewhere that has path names that you could push that file to. Then you can edit the boot.xml file and add the new file name. Its not very difficult and it probably won't brick you. I did however mess mine up and had to RUU when I was messing around with it. Still not sure what happened there.

The XML that controls the boot screen is not the Binary XML that's in the APK's and Manifest files. It's actually readable.

Edit: Guess should of put a little info up. This is just a boot screen. It has all the normal boot screens with the droid peeing on the apple as the last one. It's a signed zip file just download put on root of sd card, boot into recovery, flash like any other. Will work on 1.5 not sure on 2.1.

I appreciate the bootscreen but I am wondering if we can actually change the splash screen (then one that shows HTC before the bootscreen starts up) or if the GSM hero just got lucky with hacking theirs.

I know they have an unlocked SPL by MoDaCo or Cyanogen that allows commands to change splash screens. If we booted into fastboot and tried it, our phones would turn into $180 paperweights.

Hey man I dont mean to be picky and im not the OP. But is there anyway to use a different image? The android pissing on apple is great but the android character is not green for some reason. The original link in the OP has a green guy.
Sorry if im being fussy
And just making sure its not my setup, did you make it to have the original hero animation, nexus, and the splash screen?

you could install CM and then flash the stock boot screen animation over it,

Then google or search the forum. Not sure if the Nexus S works like other phones but you normally would.....
You would first have to find the Nexus One bootanimation.zip (they're the same)
Place it in one of the system folders /system/media/
Reboot and see if it works.

^^ some don't need to be flashed... some do
it depends on the ROM, the method I posted above would probably not do any harm. If it works, it works.. if it doesn't then nothing will change.
Again, I'm not responsible for anything that happens to your phone. Just passing the message by.

[Kernel] Stock (insecure-disable write protection)

For s-off/unlocked users.
This will remove write protection and allow for /system read/write. After flashing you will no longer need to keep weaksauce installed as system changes will persist after reboot! I dumped this boot image from one of my M8's and tested it on another. This will allow you to install such things as boot animations and busy box etc...
flash from fastboot using
fastboot flash boot M8VZWbootInsecure.img

His original thread on the module can be located on here -> http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2701816
What's the need for this? /system changes already stick after multiple hard reboots
EDIT: this is assuming you have run firewater, have s-off/unlocked, and have SuperSU installed/updated as a system app.

Thanks alot man! Alot easier than horsing around with the kernel module. This just makes it easy as pie. Thanks alot
Anyway to verify it worked? I did the easy instructions and cmd prompt did it's thing and said successful with how many seconds it took and all. Guess what i mean is there any certain root apps/tweaks that didn't work before this and now work with this?
Maybe a quick list of tweaks/apps that now work because of this kernal tweak?

I have messed up real nasty.

I flashed userdata, and it wiped everything as expected.
But I didn't have a ROM installed. So I'm OSless and there is no OS on the internal SD card anymore.
What do I do in this situation?

I had to wait (in recovery mode) until the screen goes off, turn it on without touching the screen, wait until it goes off one more time then turn on the screen before TWRP responds to my touches. [emoji28]
Of course, the first thing I did was changing screen on time from 60s to 15s.
