EMUI is surely not everyone's favorite, but maybe some of you like it, except for the forced app icon backgrounds? Or maybe you already installed another launcher (like me) an want to get rid of the last bit of EMUI design? Here is how, and its pretty easy actually:
- download and install a file explorer app, such as es file explorer (my personal favorite)
- browse to /data/skin and delete all contents, but leave the empty folder
- reboot device
potential restrictions: since i am on a rooted phone, i dont know if this is going to work on a non-rooted device, u may have to have root priviliges to gain modification access in the /data folder. also, it could be that ure removing additional theme components by deleting the whole skin folder (i.e. wallpaper). since im on nova launcher and use minima pro as a live wallpaper, it didnt concern me, so be warned!
cheers

Thanks for posting this. I'm the Minima dev and I get questions from EMUI users about this all the time. It'll be nice to have something for them to try.
What's weird is that it doesn't seem to do icons for all live wallpapers. I had a user send me a screen shot showing Phase Beam working but not Minima.
Ha, i didnt expect to get the attention of the Minima dev with this, funny Glad to be of service, I actually stumbled upon this myself when searching through the net
Btw, great work on Minima, after years of wallpaper abstinence (= black background) this was the first instance, where I enjoy having a wallpaper again in a looong time
Cheers

i use the default huawei launcher, i look the folder , it seems too many files . seems delete all will affect many things ...
thats why i said it may affect any themes youre running
Or simply use another launcher (I use Nova) which changes the icons back to standard Lollipop or Marshmallow icons. Nothing to delete then...

and here is mine
_ stock launcher
_ Wallpaper from HTC ONE, you can have it here on my drive
_ Icons from the theme STARK, i'm using only the icons from this themethere's an app for that it's called "Unicon" this needs root and with it you can apply any icons you like from a theme that's only for nova/apex/go/next launcher....
the main reason i did this is because XPosed Framework changes the icons to a strange theme somehow io couldn't get rid of it even with applying other Emotion UI themes.

There are few things I want to change and that is:
- removing the percent for the batt in the statusbar
- Lockscreen with widgets, a la Android 4.2 style. Not the Huawei stock.
I read about this change, but there is not a solution yet. But, there must be a way to change this? At the background is it still Android 4.2 that's running

I'm kind of lost here. I want to buy this phone, but it looks like it doesn't even have it's own page, let alone dedicated developers making ports of roms.
I was almost dead-set on buying this phone over the Samsung Galaxy Mega, Lenovo P780 or Zopo ZP990. But I realize now that the Galaxy Mega has the most xda support out of all four devices considering it's the only one with it's own dedicated page.

Someone with his own theme, you don't see this everyday. Can you make a .hwt theme out of it?
I had created a new theme for our Honor 5Xs (and Honor 7), Spectrum Pure.
Spectrum Pure is simple - it takes the stock theme, Spectrum, and removes the odd icon backgrounds and the customised icons. This is not actually as simple as it sounds - the stock 'icons' file on the Honor 5X containts 1128 customised icons (yes, you read that right)! Since these are on the system partition and can't be changed, I wrote a custom script to download the stock icons for these apps from the Play Store for integration into theme, giving apps their proper icons back. Phew!
Install by copying to /sdcard/HWThemes as usual and apply using the 'Themes' app.
I've included a couple of screenshots below so you can see the difference. Theme developers, if you'd like to use this theme as a basis for your own, feel free.
DOWNLOAD: SpectrumPure.hwt [ROMraid]
Enjoy!

Guys - I have unlocked and extensively used custom ROMs on my last few phones. My Honor 5X is unlocked and I am looking to do the same. Smart Cover Wallpaper
The theme is great, but the only thing that isn't covered is the smart cover wallpaper. Has anyone been able to figure out how to control that wallpaper? I've seen a lot of threads all over the place asking about this for various Huawei phones. I have the Marshmallow update and right now for some stupid reason they have it using two wallpapers. You have some space wallpaper in the background, then a smaller wallpaper that features the stock theme wallpaper, but shrunken...it doesn't fill the window of the smart cover. It looks terrible. I've found the spot in themes to place a cover wallpaper, but it is like there is something in the ROM that overlays another...for a lack of a better word, <div> section that always defaults to the stock wallpaper. It wouldn't be so bad if it filled the entire screen, but it doesn't and it's annoying.
EDIT - apparently this is a common issue for everyone using a Huawei phone. Here's a screenshot of what it it looks like. You can see an image in the far background that I set, but the stock one still displays over it in a smaller window. Looks like crap in the case's window.
Thank you! Appreciate it so much!

Should that matter? I tried many stock themes from other huawei phones on the Honor 7 and its the same. I thought the point of this theme, as said in the first post, is that there is a script to take the icons from play store.
I don't have the real stock theme of Honor 7 since I installed a 'spectrum' theme on Honor 7 before marshmallow update and after the update it kept this one instead of writing over it. And spectrum is the only stock theme in the marshmallow roms.

Great job, but your app keeps triggering an annoying message 'check your internet connection' pop up.
Thats because Im rooted with adblock and you are trying to load some ads.
Only uninstal makes it go away, so uninistalled and not tested.

Just disable adblock, reboot, open the app - then choose your customisations and install. Once the HWT is in your Huawei themes app - you don't need to open the downloaded app again so you can enable adblock again. You just need to keep the app installed for the substratum side of things.
Just support the developer, man. It's a small price to pay (literally a second of your time) to get one of the only full themes (including noti panel, settings) available for EMUI 8.1
This is awesome, great work!
I tried to use this app on my L29 but with very little success. The only thing that seems to change is the icons in settings, they become grey. The quick settings don't change at all, (and that's what I wanted to change the most!) Do I need to use a specific Huawei Theme?

It's a little buggy but it works. @36chambers helped me through the the steps.
1. Download Hamzio's theme from the play store.
2. Open the app you just downloaded.
3. Apply the settings you like, icons, colours etc.
4. Make sure you choose storage folder EMUI 8.X right at the bottom of the page.
5. Press continue
6. It will tell you to wait for the packing to complete. Give it some extra time.
7. Press the button that says open theme app (Huawei theme app). Do not go back to customise page here. This will now take you to the Huawei themes app.
8. Go to the 'me' tab at the far right of the Huawei themes app and check for Hamzio's theme that you downloaded from play store. Choose this theme.
9. I found that Hamzio's theme doesn't always show up in the Huawei themes app immediately so allow for it to show after a moment or so. I normally force close the Huawei themes app if this happens and wait patiently and do the whole process above, again.
10. It WILL show in the list eventually. Just click on it to choose it. It will apply your changes.
Now to get your notification panel icons and system settings page to look themed, you need to download Andromeda, substratum and the PC Andromeda client. Enable USB debugging on your phone in developer settings.
The step by step instructions for the androm-substratum process is available as a pinned message on the Telegram group Hamzio created just for his themes. Follow those steps and you'll have a fully themed OS on your P20P.

10. It WILL show in the list eventually. Just click on it to choose it. It will apply your changes.
Now to get your notification panel icons and system settings page to look themed, you need to download Andromeda, substratum and the PF Andromeda client. Enable USB debugging on your phone in developer settings.
The step by step instructions for the androm-substratum process is available as a pinned message on the Telegram group Hamzio created just for his themes. Follow those steps and you'll have a fully themed OS on your P20P.

Hi there,
First thanks for all your work with the 8.1 substratum themes. I'm looking for the possibility to change the white background of the notifications in the header under the quick settings panel. Do you know if it's possible?
Best regards
y.
work on emui 9 ??
Which launcher are you using for the S9 Plus and why? I tend to use Nova and return to stock several times
Running rootless 3.6 with a icon pack which is faster than stock launcher and it's easier with a working google feed
Nova is good but lacks the maturity of some of the other launchers...
Try Rootless it's on the forums as well and is well documented

Used it and it's a good one, I'm currently running the new NOVA 6 which seems to improve there interface but one thing when adding a wallpaper, didn't you notice that the stock launcher gets the wallpaper in a different way?

Yea... the nova 6 Is ok but nothing can touch this speed and efficiency... my home screen is actually amazing to look at it... I got the purple model so the colours just look epic with the legacy icon pack colour mod on top of the icon pack it's just a dream lol.....
But I've tried many launchers and nova is the only one I would buy and use however it's hinders itself due to Google's constant updates and it hasn't got the manpower to catch up... don't get me wrong the people behind nova are top notch but against Google's nerd division it's hard to keep up.....
We will always remain behind but nova you are in safe hands....
Why not try stock launcher and substratum? It's safe also telegram have people that help and even here substratum folks are pros

I don't want to get into the andromeda substratum stuff since you have to apply the dark themes to each app where some will and some won't, I like a unified setup that'll work with each app plus the edge panels, I've just downloaded rootless 3.7 along with the Aspire U9 to give my s9+ that unified look and a wallpaper from backdrops
Try zedge 4k wallpapers there are pretty hard to beat

Also within the theme settings make sure you toggle.... extract colours from legacy option gives the icons more umph

Nova Prime of course and i have stopped testing others.
Thanks for the link.
I noticed however that when switching to rootless from s9+ built in that the "live background" effect disappeared.. doesn't rootless support live BG?

Well, i haven't found any other launcher which offers the following combination:
100% Stability + Battery friendly + Personal customization ( many choices for gestures, for the home screen, for personal theming etc)
Nova ,it's Fast

It tells you on the product page...
I was fiddling around with my P40 Pro's themes and I installed something called "zookingsoft engine" and now my status bar, settings, quick settings icons look completely different. Not sure what happened because (from my experience) all changing themes usually did was simply change home screen icons and the color of quick settings toggles... But with the ZookingSoft Engine it looks like this.

Very strange, as all I did was download a theme called Chrome Design from the unofficial EMUI themes app
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.deishelon.lab.huaweithememanager&hl=en
https://apkpure.com/themes-manager-for-huawei-emui/ru.deishelon.lab.thememanager
Then I installed Chrome Design in Huawei's built in theme app and I was prompted to install the Zooking soft engine. From my research this engine was used in older Huawei EMUI versions so not sure why or how it still works on the P40 Pro. ? Lockscreen also looks different with a battery animation when the phone is charging...
Hopefully I did not install a virus! But either way it looks cool, I think. Maybe except the colorful statusbar icons.
As for the home screen itself, here's how mine looks. Nothing too special. I keep all the "app stores" in one folder on the home screen. Same with video/movie/TV apps and some social apps. Launcher is Lawnchair 2. Icon pack is "BOLT".
Looking cool bro.. Good find. I will try this zooking engine too
My home screen. Nothing fancy going on
Nova launcher
Kwgt widget
Energy ring for the camera cutout
System theme and wallpaper
I can't find Chrome design theme from huawei's theme app.

You need the third party Themes Manager for Huawei / Honor / EMUI app first. Google Play Store link Or APK Pure link
Open this app and find the Chrome Design theme. Download it , and then when you open Huawei's OFFICIAL Themes app, it should appear in the list, so just click "apply" and it should work.
Nice looking setups on here, I am just using Nova Launcher Prime with resource monitor mini pro (cpu monitor at the top of the notification bar) and I'm using a theme made by Dragandroid called 'Groundlike'. He also makes many other nice themes and always fixes bugs when mentioned. I'm sure zookingsoft is safe I once had that installed on my p20 Pro I'm sure it enables custom the ING and extras or whatnot. Definitely try out themes manager by deishelon lab that's got some very nice themes available on there.
Also using an app called Mi Control Centre which is a custom navigation bar as you'll see in a photo I've attached
- Design and Icon Pack from Huawei Themes app
- Some nice backgrounds chosen from Google Images,
- Resource Monitor Mini for RAM/CPU usage etc
- Energy Ring for indicating current battery level
- KWGT for custom Widgets on homescreen
- System UI Tuner to disable several annoying icons in the status bar(like Alarm Clock or NFC)
Here is mine,
Wall found in Zooper premium
Icons: Retrotika
Weather Wow Weather
Nothing else?
My Setup on Huawei P40 Pro 5G
this is my Setup using Nova Launcher
Widgets Used : ModernUi for KWGT ( Card 025 )
Grid Size : 8 x 5
Icon Pack : Phosphor Cadmium
No more space! ?
