Galaxy S6 G920F - Can't transfer files from my Macbook to my phone via USB - Galaxy S6 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

So this problem is a real pain in the ass for me the last couple of days.
I have an early 2015 MacBook Air (running 10.13.3 El Capitan) and my phone is the Galaxy S6 running Xtrestolite 2.4 ROM with Hacker kernel.
Whenever I connect my phone to the laptop over USB it says "Could not connect to device. Try reconnecting or restarting your device".
Both of those options don't work. On my phone I have the developer options enabled and the USB Debugging section checked.
I have tried multiple USB cables (not even the official Samsung cable doesn't work).
On the notification bar under "USB computer connection" it is marked as a Media device (MTP), but when I change it to Camera (PTP) it automatically opens the "Photos" app on the MacBook.
I have tried Samsung Kies (yea I know it doesn't support the new Galaxy phones but I thought it would still be worth a shot) and Samsung Smart Switch (it detected a device, but got stuck on the connecting to phone for lik 10 mins and then I got an error).
Here are a few things listed under About device on my phone:
Model: SM-G925K
Android Version: 5.1.1
Baseband Version: G920FXXS3COK5
Kernel Version: 3.10.94-Hacker-S6-Universal-V11
Build Number: XtreStoLite Deo Mod v2.4-XXU3COI9

Did you try this? https://www.android.com/filetransfer/

Yes I did.
I said that on the beginning (forgot to mention that the error message was from AFT)

Has this problem existed since the first day or recently? Cause i own a MBP 2014 and i am going to buy a s6 soon.

I own an iMac late 2013 and there is no problem with el capitan

Nah it was all good before. Even after I rooted it was working. I think that I messed up something when switching between kernels, first I was at the stock kernel (Unikernel) for this ROM then Vindicator and lastly Hacker kernel. Right after switching from Unikernel to Vindicator the connection via AFT would often break and then I had to reboot the device, but after I installed Hacker its not working .
Dont know if I messed something up, I did a full wipe (factory + dalvik), installed the ROM first and then right after the kernel.
Could this maybe be the cause?

By resetting you mean completely wiping it and re-installing the rom + kernel?

Yea I guess I can make a backup via TWRP and then reinstall everything and see if it fixes anything, if not, I can revert everything.
I have a question (I know its dumb), so I should do a full wipe into installing the ROM into installing the kernel right?

Nope still doesnt work.
I did a full wipe + factory reset (even managed to soft brick the device lol), re-installed the ROM + Aroma add-ons + Kernel but still isnt working.
I am becoming really desperate.
I will try to go back to the stock ROM, root it, delete useless apps via Titanium backup and hopefully I can use it like that as I am 100% that it works on the stock firmware.

Try download Shortcut master lite from playstore, run secret code explorer in it, then code 0808, and set AP and MTP+ADB, that helped me, when I had similar issues.

Recovered from boot loop but constant crashes with older ROM

I am helping a friend to get his One Plus One 64GB to work again after an OTA update broke it.
Initial Problem
Two days ago she started an OTA update which made the phone reboot constantly before even android started. Basically it showed the logo for about 6s then vibrated and restarted again. I later found /o/Android/data/com.cyngn.fota/cache/cm-12.0-YNG1TAS17L-bacon-signed.zip so I assume that this was what was installed.
The phone is completely untouched otherwise. She has no computer knowledge whatsoever and says she didn't give it to anyone.
My attempt
I was able to install cm-11.0-XNPH33R-bacon-signed.zip and cm-11.0-XNPH22R-bacon-signed.zip via sideloading. The phone started ok but was crashing all the time. I am not able to get into settings to activate developer settings (adb) because the crash notifications hinder navigation and after about 10s the whole gui crashes and I see the black screen with the hexagon loading logo. The latter firmware is worse meaning it crashes at a higher frequency.
The Problem
She didn't expect any problems and does not have a backup of her data. Thus I can't do a factory reset or use fastboot.
Question
Did I use the wrong ROM? There seem to be many variants. I haven't found any information which explains the differences.
Could I maybe flash a minimal ROM that would not crash to backup the data and than do a factory reset?
Is there any way to activate adb access without having to navigate to settings?
I've experienced your issues as well when helping another friend out, try using a newer version of cm11s, something like 44S /44R (i dont remember what it is) or 05Q, those should not have the issue and everything should work fine
Jst flash a newer modem in recovery

The problem here is that you flashed an older build, going backwards like that is what's causing the crashes. Grab the latest build from here:
https://www.androidfilehost.com/?fid=24052804347802356
Flash that and hopefully you'll be ok.

That won't help, flashing an older build than what was previously installed without wiping properly will cause problems.

Actually this is what I did in the very first beginning but I encountered the same rebooting symptoms like after the OTA update. Since it didn't seem to change anything I didn't mention it. I used cm-12.1-YOG4PAS1N0-bacon-signed.
Any other ideas? I am about to unlock it with fastboot but really would prefer not to delete all user data.

No PC Connection

G920F
BL: COI9
Rom: XtreStoLite Deo Mod 2.4 (Android 5.1.1)
Kernel: Unikernel v9
My S6 works flawless.
Except for the fact that I cannot get a functional PC Connection. I tried everything I know: Windows 7, 8, 8.1, 10, Linux and even a mac. Windows states everytime that the device doesn't work properly and cannot be identified. It is listed as unknown device.
Yes I have installed drivers many many times.
I don't want to do a factory reset. Because if I delete everything and after that there is still no connection, I am pretty f*cked up.
I tested with several usb ports and cables.
I installed other kernels.
I even changed the daughterboard.
It can charge when it's connected to a PC but nothing more. I had it under warranty send in for a repair but Samsung Germany said to me that "every change of the original software leads to loss of the warranty. "
I think my S6 itself doesn't have a USB driver. So it doesn't know how to commute with a PC.
So I got two questions. Is my S6 bricked? Does someone know my problem or even a solution?
And second is there a way to flash bootloader, modem, twrp without a PC?

WIFI Connection Problem

Hi All,
need a bit of help as i am stuck and banging my head on the wall now... i was previously running cataclysm mod on my nexus 5 the Dec 5 variant and didnt upgrade to the later one... yesterday i unlocked the bootloader and then flashed stock rom the latest one available..
now the problem... for some freaking reason my N5 would not connect to my home wifi.. it would report as "wifi connection failure" though it has no problems connecting to the other wifi n/w( had a hotspot going with my nexus 6p and also connected to my neighbors wifi )
i did factory reset... and in the end flashed YAOSP rom my @Yank555 on my N5 just to see.. but now it wont even report as my wifi visible so that i could connect...
please help... i have tried changing the name of the wifi with no luck.. and also tried manual ip on the N5 with no luck..
thanks again
Rohit
which version on cataclysm were you running? If you were running 4.4 or 5.0 and updated to 6.0 with your latest update then it is possible there are files left behind from cataclysm. Simply try rebooting into recovery(even stock recovery if that's what you have) and try wiping the cache, and dalvik cache, and reboot. If this doesn't fix your issue, maybe try doing a completely fresh install.
To do this:
1.)unlock bootloader
2.)Download custom recovery img and fastboot flash recovery (nameofrecovery).zip
3.)Boot into your downloaded recovery and wipe all these partitions "/system, /data, /cache" then wipe dalvik.
4.)Reboot into download-mode to enter fastboot once again.
5.)Now reflash your stock img files you've downloaded from google.
Hopefully this should resolve your issue. Give me a thanks if this helped

Flash a custom recovery image so you can wipe all partitions that are included in the stock MM software. Look in your stock zip at all the fastboot img's then boot the phone into custom recovery (TWRP preferred) and wipe all partitions that are included with your stock zip. Then fastboot reflash all stock img's

Before investing money in new equipment try contacting your ISP. Tell them about the problem. If the problem is hardware based, there are numerous possibilities to fix the problem.

No problem! As a last resort just call your ISP. Comcast or whatever. They can work everything out for you over the phone.
You should have a go at enabling the old DHCP client in developer settings (see screenshot below). Could just be the new DHCP client messing with you.
As for my ROM, on HH/shamu you should be able to use ANY channel worldwide (so I see no reason for it not to see the network).
But on stock ROM (or ROMs unmodded in that regard) channels are restriced (2.4GHz channels above 11 or 5GHz DFS channels won't be usable).
JP.

My s7 crashes (app/UI has stopped) whenever I try to connect to new wifi network...

The problem appeared after upgrade to nougat. I tried factory reset, it was ok for the first hours and now, the problem returned.
Anyone facing the same problems?
Phone not rooted, running on official rom and problems occurs even in safe mode....

Hi
How did you upgrade?
OTA , flashing??
If OTA did you upgrade al your apps , maybe one of them is making trouble
If flashing , how? and also did you upgrade your apps
Hey, thanks for the answer. It was OTA. I suppose all apps are up to date since I restored to factory settings and re-installed them.
The problem is still there even in safe mode...

Hi
yeah is odd , i would think it has to be app related .....
When you get the error ..after you introduce the password? what about if you ask your phone to forget your old connection , it allows you to connect to the new one then?
I would try to wipe dalvik and cache from recovery and /or reflash stock rom again..maybe something went wrong at least the modem

I tried to wipe the cache with no success. I am on a trip right now, and I cannot wipe the dalvik for the moment.
I figured out a walkthrough though using a third party app called "WIFI manager". I even managed to install a certificate and use it for a connection to an "eduroam" network...

Note 10.1 unresponsive to touch but S-pen works fine

So 3 days ago I got bored of Android 4.4.2 on my 6 years old tablet. It worked fine for browsing the internet and watching youtube but I wanted more. I thought that was installing a new android an easy business but I was wrong. I downloaded TWRP and lineage os android 7.1. for my N8000.Then I flashed my recovery and later I download a sketchy rooting app from an internet called "iRoot". Then "iRoot" downloaded and installed an app with some Chinese characters. I wanted to delete that but there was no icon in "manage apps" tab
then I disabled it in other tabs and rebooted my device. when my device rebooted my touchscreen wouldn't work. I pulled my S-pen out and it worked perfectly fine (the device was never dropped). So I tried factory resetting my device and the problem was still there. I installed SuperSu app I thought that it would help me but when I open it it said ''binary occupied''. I was hopeless. Then I installed lineageOS and the problem was still there. I tried going back to my old android 4.4.2 but my sd card was corrupted. I installed Odin and flashed factory OS for my device. now I have the same problem. btw this was my first time doing this stuff so I made a lot of mistakes. I saw people fixing this problem simply by calling *#2663# but when I do that my screen flashes back and then it forwards me to my home screen. The problem was still there. Do you guys know the solution?

Its the rooting app that is your problem .
TWRP install via Odin wipe data system cache etc reboot to download mode .

I wiped everything. I just installed Factory android 4.4.2 with Odin. Then I installed TWRP 2.8.4.0 via Odin and wiped everything. but my touchscreen still doesn't work even in TWRP. I was installing Lineage 14.0 from this thread https://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-note-10-1/development/rom-lineageos-14-1-t3848514 and I ran out of time. I will update you guys tomorrow. :fingers-crossed:

What do you mean by that? Do I need to replace my digitizer, motherboard, or something else? I'm quite new in this type of stuff so I don't understand most of the things
Also, I tried installing multiple versions of official os and other versions of Lineage and Slimroms and my touch still doesn't work. I also tried reflashing firmware on all those versions but it still work.
This menu which appears, when you dial *#2663#, it let you update the touch screen panel firmware,
it flashes it directly to the chip.
If this fails or simply doenst work, you have to replace this chip (TSP IC) or your mainboard.

Thanks for your quick response. Basically, because this tablet is over 6 years old, and I am unable to find the correct motherboard in my country. I found tablets (used) like mine for something near 40 euros. I wanted to buy a whole motherboard and replace it, but it was like 30-40 dollars and shipping is an additional 50 - 60 euros. So I think that I should wait for a cheap broken one and then try to make Frankenstein from those two. Anyway thanks for your help!
