You can change it in settings. Click on more in message app. Settings then chat settings then looking image size. Choose original should help keep it original size.

Not for me. Mine send at full size.
All carriers cap the size of MMS. If they didn't, you could send gigabytes of files and really hog up the MMS server.
T-Mobile and AT&T both cap at 1MB.
The reason you didn't get downsizing with your iPhone is likely because iMessage can route texts through its own servers if the recipient also has an iPhone, which makes the MMS cap much larger
If you text someone who has t-mobile and they have a Note 5 or S6 etc then you can send full size mms with no cap or compression.

MMS has a cap that sits somewhere between 1.5-1.8mb. Carriers will also include their own cap, like the 1mb for tmo.
If you were sending full size images on an iPhone it is because iMessage was handling the traffic, its like sending a photo over Whatsapp or Kik, there is no compression because they are not limited by MMS spec..

When I receive picture message i only receives a link on Go sms.
It only happened once so far but when I sent a picture from my friends x10 to my x10 using go sms, the pictured showed up on my phone was the wrong one.
For example, I sent a picture of an apple to my phone but the picture that showed up on my phone is a dog.
Does anybody know of this happening? I mean GO sms sending the wrong link to the picture that I received?
Thanks
Is the dog yours?
What I mean is, was the wrong picture another one of YOUR pictures, or not?
If not, it's probably a mistake on their server's part.

Ah, I see.
So, here's how Go MMS service works:
you upload a picture on the GO server and then the server generates a link
(much like when you upload a picture on any other picture sharing site).
So, what happened to you is that the server returned the wrong link.
In general, be very careful of what you upload using Go MMS,
there is little guarantee that your data are being protected
and since you reported such a mix-up, all the more reason to be extra careful.
Thanks immortal, Your probability right about the mix up. It is no big deal but hopefully it will not happen again.
Every time a device gets AOSP (for the first time) I see a flood of posts whining about MMS being broken. (I've had an Evo 4G and an Evo 3D and saw this on both when they first got AOSP, now I see it in the unofficial CM9 thread here.)
Why MMS? What's good about MMS that you can't get with any other app or service?
Did I miss the train?

Yea.. I gather that as well.
How else would one sext and send nudes?
1) It's universal.
No matter what phone the other person is using, chances are it supports MMS.
2) It's in-line.
Unlike email, you can just go "Here's a picture" instead of "I just sent you an email, you should go check it out"

I know its a serious question but made me laugh a bit. "Why God why!!" Lol
My girlfriend and I send MMS's (plural?lol) all the time. Sometimes she wants to send me something she saw or maybe a new outfit she bought With email I don't always have autosync on for battery life and its just that extra hassle. If I'm trying to send something pretty high resolution I will use email though since it doesn't compress it.
its the easiest and fastest way to send a pic to a person on another mobile phone, any other mobile phone, any OS, any platform, any carrier.
was this a joke?

I guess I just don't get why you couldn't just email pictures or videos. All you have to do is tap after you've taken your picture and the UI asks how you want to share it. I don't know a single human being who still uses MMS outside of these forums and maybe my mother, who keeps buying feature-phones. :^\
It's easier to send a quick picture to a phone than through email. I don't know much of my friend's email addresses off the top of my head

I guess the bigger question is why not?
Almost not wanting to dignify the question... But....
Mms is also used as a group chat in messaging apps like gosms. Allows you to text multiple people at once and everyone in the chat can see everyone elses response. Just fyi

Here is a better question: Why do people still use CDMA carriers such as verizon and sprint? SIM lacking carriers are almost non-existant outside the USA.
Why MMS??? Then why sms ?? Yeah you could SMS but then if u wanted to send a pic or video then you would have to open a separete app which takes more time mms is simply faster

So I've tried using the stock app and 8sms but anytime someone sends me a picture, it comes in super small and very pixelated. Sender can be an iPhone or Android. I've also noticed if someone sends me multiple photos, the last one or 2 is in black and white and not color.
Any suggestions?

This has happened to me too and not found what causes it. I also miss some videos people send. I believe it has to do with the 1200kb max MMS can receive. Wife sent a 1800kb video and everyone got it but me. All of them on verizon, half with android and other half with iphone. Im hoping we can make that max even bigger.

Does anyone know for a FACT the file limit size Verizon will allow it's customers to send via mms??? This would help
Taking 10 seconds out of my day found this. Seems Verizon stats that the limit is 1.2mb which is 1200k correct? So that's our limit to send and receive no matter how high we want to make the setting on the phone, network will only do this?

I will look into hangouts, thanks.
I installed Textra earlier today and it seems alot better.
Was looking into this as well. I use GoSMS and the pictures from group texts are mad crappy.
I was wondering if a custom ROM would fix it but I guess not.
Anyone getting better results with another messaging app?

I'm coming from IOS and I didn't expect this to be a problem at all. Whenever I send or recieve a video is so compressed that you can barley see what's going on. I don't hear much about this. Are android users pretending this isn't an issue?

Although iMessage handles SMS for iPhones (that's why you can still get texts from people without iPhones), iMessage doesn't use MMS (well, it can, but between iMessage clients, it doesn't). It uses your cellular data or wifi. MMS is different, and has limitations. It has nothing to do with Android.
You're perfectly free to use a different messenger service on Android that doesn't have MMS limitations, but of course the receiving party also has to use that app.
There's no fix to this with being rooted?

Take your pick of any of them. The issue with doing it with mms is that carriers put limits on them. Like ATT has a 600kb limit, I think T-mobile has like 1 mb. You could use things like whatsapp or others.

Most likely not. I am the same way and now no longer send video over mms. Many people are slowly moving over to things like whatsapp
Most Android users simply don't use MMS. Who would they, when apps like Whatsapp offer a free alternative?
Mind you, Whatsapp also downscales images and videos.

Because in the US we get unlimited messaging and limited data. Data plans in the states are limited so its cheaper to use mms then it is for apps like whatsapp. Not o mention with facebook buying whats app many avoid it now.

We get unlimited messaging, too. But MMS services here require data to send and retrieve. We don't have unlimited data either. 10GB is the largest plan, and it costs about 70 euro a month.
There hasn't actually been that much of a decline in Whatsapp users. There was at first, but most went back to Whatsapp due to the lack of decent, large alternatives and the fact that 80% doesn't bother with privacy when it requires effort.

It uses data here to but it's included in the SMS package. The average data plan on non contract devices here is like 2gb before they throttle you. Then data becomes almost unusable. You can get bigger limits with contracts but then you pay a stupid amount.
Anyone having low quality mms with the stock messaging app? All the photos my wife sends me are really blurry... She's sending them from an iPhone 6+

I have noticed on previous phones that the image in the mms app can look fairly poor, but if you download it, it looks fine.
Correct about downloading them fixes the problem.
Thanks for the response guys.. Downloaded but they are still blurry it might be the iPhone mms app.. I sent a picture to myself and it was fine.

I'm having the same issues.. Only receiving pictures less than 30kb..
Verizon website says 1200kb is biggest size available for pictures. So yeah they get smaller, but not that small.. I have spoken to manager of local Verizon store and he says he found a thread on there internal support Forum about the issue. He says samsung is aware and they are working on an update to resolve the issue..
On the flip side, my wife just got a Note 5 and MMS I get from her are 1000% better (I have a Droid Turbo FWIW, her old phone was a GS4)

Was about to ask if it does that being sent from another phone but confirmed note 5 sending is better. Some phones do the compression before sending others might compress before receiving on the server side. Interesting issue none the less.
Verizon Wireless Technician using Tapatalk on Note 5
This problem has been plaguing me for over a year, this is them most helpful information I have found. https://www.reddit.com/r/GooglePixel...ottom-comments
From what I can tell, if Verizon doesn't recognize your phone (mine is on a custom rom) Verizon servers automatically compress incoming MMS to 30-40KB.
"Pixel is resizing the images much more than they should. Take a look at the google pixel product forum. There are many complaints about this.
Every other comment so far is wrong, it's not just due to MMS. Yes MMS compresses/resizes the images to get a smaller file size, but no carrier restricts the image size down to the 30-40KB that Pixel is receiving.
From what I can tell the phone isn't in the carriers MMS phone info database yet, so it doesn't know the phone's capabilities so it defaults to a really old, flip phone user agent that restricts incoming MMS images to 30-40KB.
I have seen other reports of brand new phones having the exact same issue.
So hopefully it's just a matter of time before the carriers fix this.
Edit: I almost forgot, to prove this is an MMS issue and not 'just the way MMS works', download Textra or Chomp and under MMS settings choose Legacy instead of System. I'm not sure what it does, but it forces some other MMS settings to be used and will allow you to receive much higher quality photos."
I finally got it to work better by using Textra and setting it to "legacy" MMS.
