Please note that I'm not trying to promote "warez" or anything, just curious since I have not heard anything about how developers are going to keep their applications from being copied and I am interested in knowing how that will be enforced.
How are apps protected against copying? Will application serial numbers be tied to unique identifiers like the Gmail account which as far as I can tell is similar to the Owner Name in WinMo?
I assume that there will be serial numbers that aren't tied to unique identifiers and serial numbers that are tied to the Gmail account name.
How will the Market apps be protected? Can any developers chime in? Could you (once it is possible) copy an app off of one G1 and manually install it into another?
i tryed this out witha co-workers g1 and it didnt work the app said that installation was unsuccessful so your ok as far as i know
Well they have 2 unique identifiers on the phone... an IMEI and an IMSI
I assume they can tie those in also... I know tmobile uses the IMEI to find out if you have an upgradeable wing for software updates. Of course... how many are willing to give out their IMEI
Hi there,
It is always a difficult consideration, "shall I start a new thread on this?". But, I thought it would be good to have this information available to everyone. Please don't discuss specific ROMs or Radios in this thread. Just discuss the effects flashing has on your IMEI and/or Device ID.
Being new to flashing the following question came up. What happens to your IMEI and "Device ID"... (not "Device Name") when you flash a new ROM on your mobile. I asked this question in a specific ROM thread and the answer was... "not sure".
This may be an important question to consider before flashing your ROM. Example, my (paid for) Route66 GPS software and maps only work with my specific "Device ID". This is not the same as your Device Name. This Device ID is unique to your mobile (quoting Route66 support team).
This Device ID can not be found on the sticker at the back of your mobile below the battery. So, it seems to be some hardware or software generated number. On my mobile it looks like the following:
9934xx27xx089013B
(The xxx-es are just replacements for some other numbers.)
My IMEI number looks like the following
358xxx010xx4859
(The xxx-es are just replacements for some other numbers.)
I learned that the IMEI number on the sticker may differ from the one stored in your phone. If you press *#06# on your phone your 'stored' IMEI will appear. In my case the following showed up:
358xxx010xx485901
Note the additional two numbers not found on your sticker. Flashing your ROM or Radio can have an effect on these last two numbers I understand. They are some kind of version indication. So if you need to keep the same "full" IMEI number for some software to run on your phone the following question needs to be asked:
How will flashing the ROM or Radio effect your IMEI number?
How can we change the IMEI back to the original number?
Back to Device ID
In addition there are several questions unanswered regarding the Device ID.
Where does it originates from?
Will the Device ID change when flashing a ROM or new Radio?
Can it be changed back?
Do you have any experience with this? What effect did it have on your software? Did you compare your IMEI and Device ID before and after flashing? Do you know how to change the numbers back? Write in this thread please! (again I am new to flashing and if some of this information is not correct please let us know)
Thanks,
Moved this out of Rom Development as it has nothing to do with that topic, and would caution users against posting their IMEI numbers on a public site. That being said, please feel free to discuss the effects to your heart's content.

Sorry, the IMEI code is private to its own users. Unless you disclose it to someone else, I don't think its possible. But of course, govt. organizations like Police can track this. I don't think end users can implement this, as it creates legal problems.
i think you can only know yourself imei. it is no way to incoming call imei.

yes but i mean, if the IMEI "travels" with the rest of the message (a call or a SMS), i think its preatty easy that it ends on the other phone too?
i know there was an app for nokia, time ago, that could help you to know who was making private calls, and it was based on the IMEI.
and if i know the IMEI of someone.. thats illegal?
in reality im asking this, to know if the IMEI i can read over my phone, is the same as the one that gets tracked by the phone companies (i know it sounds strange, but flashing my s2 ive accidentally changed my imei, but somehow this new IMEI, that is something the phone creates automatically, is not blocked in my country, so i can still use it.
Hi All,
Hope you are well. I have X009 Gsm Bug. I want to change it's IMEI address because in this country IMEI address unregistered devices will be blocked in 2 months. For this reason if i can change it's IMEI address i am able to use it.
I think it has MTK scheme.
Could you please help me about this issue?
You can find many information about this product in Google many sites.
Please help me..
Thanks in advance.
Best Regards.
Changing a device's IMEI is a topic which will not be discussed in the forums here on XDA.

Hello everyone. I've read some posts with requests of changing IMEI on this forum. So I tell you that changing phone's IMEI in my country is legal (for now). I want to create fully untraceable phone by installing Cyanogen Mod without google spying crapware and modify IMEI of the phone. Why? I am not a criminal. I just hate when some smartass mothfakers think they are more wise than you and collect data about you without your permission. Device is Xperia Z3 Dual. I have already found info about Trim Area where IMEI is stored on this phone. How to edit that Trim Area? DRM keys can go to /dev/null.
