Did you try this first?
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=64776936&postcount=36
Known issue. Anytime I touch/backup my device, I clear the PIN/Fingerprint. Then back it up. Set it up again afterwards.
I RUU back to stock, took 1.54 and now taking 1.56, no issues for me. Because I never set a PIN/Fingerprint...sorry.

I think he's talking about the data encryption password, not the PIN/fingerprint bug on a restore.

This is the PIN Code which you have set as alternate for Fingerprint.

yes data encryption password... before apply the update I don't had any password on the cel... don't know why ask me for it.... tried with 0000 with no luck....
I will try to back to stock, install TWRp and test the solution from captain....
thanks ....
With this Update there is no Storage Encryption? On my Device is it not. On yours?
But i have deleted the locksettings files under /data/system because i want not tip in the PIN Code after every Reboot before i can use the Fingerprint sensor. If you delete the locksettings files under /data/system you can use Fingerprint after Reboot without Tip In Pin Code first. Is this the Reason why Storage Encryption is not on my Device?
I do not miss it. I do not want it, but i wonder me. Or is supersu beta the Reason?
Do you have the stock recovery from the 1.55.617.4 update? The recovery from 1.12.***.** (whatever version it came out the box with) isn't updating. I've flashed the clean stock deodex rom from Captain_Throwback and I flashed the 1.12 recovery. Attempted to update but it stopped on 3% and I had the red triangle with the exclamation, and then it rebooted but didn't update.

24% means it verified the OTA and it's good to begin updating /system. 3% is something worse.
One way to see what's going on is to run the update from TWRP, or adb side-load? with stock recovery. Then, you can get a console to see the logs.
Received 1.57.651.1 update on Sprint HTC One A9 today. Didn't look at the changelog before updating, anyone know what changes it might bring apart from the security patch?

There you go.
Got this issue this morning - phone received OTA for 1.56.617.1 and installed it. Phone is stock with unlocked bootloader (did not install TWRP yet). Since I use PIN lock, I know the pin - and was asked for it on reboot, however... The text with PIN prompt actually stated that PIN is correct, no matter what code I entered and claimed that it cannot decrypt the phone, requiring reset.
I suspect this is the issue with bootloader... Unfortunately it will cost me a lot of time to restore everything as I had configured. Granted, a lot of apps now backup themselves on Google Drive and some I had pointed to SC card, but still, very disappointing.
What is the best way to backup here? If I install TWRP, I can take an image, but every time I restore it, I'd have to update with possibly the same result. If I unencrypt, I lose the ability to apply OTA easily...

I am a 65 year old android phone nooby I do not have a clue how these things work, I got the Wildfire A3333 off my son who purchased it secondhand off e-bay. It was completely locked up, but I purchased an unlock code that did not work? So went on you tube and found out how to reset it by clearing it? I put in a new sim card and I connected to the internet ok but when I tried to phone to set up the SIM it would not connect, nor will it send messages, it has a phone number in there that does not belong to it? because when I phoned it instead of ringing, a bloke answered?? Is there a way to get pass this hardlock or is it useless for phoning /messaging, everything else works internet, camera etc.

clear storage is just about the sdcard as far as i know. Other way is to factory reset in the android settings under "storage" or "security"
Just in case that will not help we can think about further steps to reset the phone. If its a used phone i CLEARLY recommend to reset or better reflash it bacause you cant if the last owner installed any malicious software on the phone.

I followed your instructions and did a factory reset, but it is still the same? except now there is no red triangle when I try to phone 150 to register the SIM card, I still can not access the call forwarding/call barring settings? And to be honest I do not have a clue what reflash means?
Thanks for help anyway:good:

Reflash means to reinstall the operating system (Android) on the phone. Compared to install windows on a home computer. It needs some more experience flashing a firmware but i can assisst you.
The point is that it seems as someone modified the phone on his own or the phone is from a different region/country. Just to be clear. Why did you buy a locked phone?
To know how to act pls do as followed:
Turn off phone. Go into "BOOTLOADER" by pressing "Vol down + Power" for some seconds. It will show some info. Please take a photo and upload it. then go to section "SIMLOCK" and take a photo too.
With this informations i can easiest tell you if its modified and how to get rid of the lock.

I did not buy it, it was given to me by my youngest son, he has learning difficulties and I do not think he knew what he was buying? And I think he tried accessing it until it completely locked up? It has been in a drawer for two years and came to light when he recently moved house, he also took out the SD card and misplaced it.
I hope I have done this right

Please download this --> HTC Wildfire unbranded RUU
and HTC USB drivers
you will also need a working usb cable and of course your computer
BTW it was good to have a micro sd card (Not necessary)
---------- Post added at 07:53 PM ---------- Previous post was at 07:38 PM ----------
Install the driver and Make sure HTC sync (in case you installed it before) is closed. Start the phone into bootloader and select "fastboot" while connected to your computer. It should show up "fastboot usb" then you can run the RUU ( the big file you downloaded ) it will flash the stock firmware on your phone. Keep in mind that all personal data will be cleared during the flash process. If it runs successfully you should not face trouble anymore. If issues remain just tell me. Its important that the firmware update is NOT INTERRUPTED in any way, as it could make the device temporarily unusable. This should work fine for you, but of course its in YOUR RESPONCE what happens to the phone. So just go on, if you're sure how to act.

I can not get my computer to run the HTC Driver programme? I think a virus programme or firewall is stopping it opening?
It's NO VIRUS for sure. You can cut internet connection and deactivate antivirus to solve it and still be safe. After installing you can reactivate AV.
To proceed:
You are running a windows computer? Have installed any syncing software e.g. Samsung KIES, HTC Sync, Blackberry Chimera? If yes, uninstall it pls.
I ask bacause i NEVER had issues with installing teh HTC driver. Does it show up any error message?

I think its English? but I just want to be sure about the driver install please I think I will be able to do the flash, do I just click on the HTC Driver link and plug my phone in? I am a complete novice at this :good: I did not try last night because my battery went low and I did not want to interupt the install? fully charged now,:good: Thank you
First Download BOTH files please. That means to save them to your computer.
Run the HTCdriver4.2.exe as it provides the needed drivers. It will tell you that drivers have been installed successfully when finished.
Then you can boot the phone to "bootloader" and select "Fastboot" connect it to your computer and it will show "fastboot USB". Keep the phone connected like that.
Run the RUU_Buzz_Froyo_HTC_WWE_2.22.405.1_Radio_13.55.55.24H_3.35.20.10_release_160191_signed.exe
It is self explaing BUT to be safe: Check the box "I read and understand it" - press next - Check "steps done" and press next.
NOW the programm will start flashing the firmware (Operating System + some other needed files).
Once finished the programm will tell you "successfull ...!
You should be able to boot Android and everything should be resetted and set back to stock.
Then you can try if you still face any issues with the simcard.

I am helping a person try and retrieve photos from a Samsung Galaxy S6 that is stock at the lock screen. The finger print scan is not working and they do not know there back up password. I researched two ways to get around this.
1. Entering in the google account user name and password
2. Signing into Find My Mobile with the samsung account information and unlocking the phone
If both of these options fail due to the owner not remembering there above credentials is there any other way to retrieve photos. How about putting the phone in dfu mode and using a program on a computer to copy photos from the internal storage. Is something like this possible? Appreciate any help on this issue.
Maybe flash a stock ROM with Odin?
That way all the data stays in tact and it may remove lock screen.
Sent from my SM-G920I using XDA Premium HD app
Thanks for the quick response. The lady is paranoid about losing her photos! Therefore flashing with Odin Stock Rom will not remove any data from the phone. Do you have instructions or a link on how to do this.
I also am able to sign into her google account through the web browser, but when I use those credentials to try and unlock the Galaxy S6 it says that the user name or email is wrong. Thanks

Sounds like she could be learning a hard lesson. Backup passwords, knowing what accounts you used to setup, photo backups all exist for a reason.

I totally agree with your assessment! I don't understand how I can log into her Gmail account via the web and then when I enter the same information at the Galaxy S6 Unlock via Google it does not work. Could this have something to do with not being connected to the internet. It is saying that 4G LTE is connected. Doesn't seem to be a way to connect it to WiFi without unlocking home screen.
If this was my phone I would have no trouble trying to flash the Odin stock Rom, but do not want to lose her info incase someone else can retrieve it. Does flashing the Odin stock ROM wipe everything on the phone or does it retain photos and other information. Thanks
I'm in this same situation. Is there anyway to retrieve the pictures? Flashing with Odin does not wipe the phone?
Wasn't life easier when we had removable sd cards...?
Flashing the system partition does not touch the data partition.
Do you know how she managed to break the fingerprint reader, by the way?
My G920F stuck on bootloop because of fail on rooting and I was afraid of losing all my photos. First I flashed TWRP with Odin, booted to recovery mode and pulled photos and videos out with adb. Then I flashed stock firmware with Odin and made a factory reset (not mandatory). Everything is working fine now.

Agree WahFai, much simpeler with SD-card! So you think flashing system partition will do the trick. I'll go read up on that, how to flash the system partition. In my case, afaik, the fingerprint reader did not break. The system failed accepting the unlock code from one day to another and she does not remember the backup code for the reader. Thanks for your reply!
All she wants are the pictures on the phone. She recently got a baby, all the pictures of the delivery are on the phone, so you sense the urgency to not loose the pictures. She'll still feel the effects 18 years from now.
By the way: does flashing the stock rom with odin void the warranty? Because the phone is still on warranty...
Flashing a stock rom via odin will not trip knox but flashing a custom recovery will.
Thanks for clearing that out for me.

I'm pretty sure that knox will be tripped.
Also go to my profile and check thread that I've started. I explain there how I did it.

I now found the instructions on how to pull files with ADB. I connected the phone to my pc and checked if the device was recognized. This was not the case. Does this mean, that the USB debugging was not enabled?

What should we do? For myself at this moment, I do not need root or custom roms. I have read many people recommending staying on stock for OTAs updates right now. The only reason I want TWPR is for the nandroid backups of the stock rom. Is it even possible to update stock, the OTA updates and reapply the unlock bootloader and TWPR afterwards? I know TWPR is still being working on at this moment. Also, is there even a stock rom [for FRD-AL04???] without root available through TWPR right now?
I believe I have FRD-AL04 which is the US/32 gig phone, right? Is this the correct model? Here is the link to amazon page.
Mine is the US 32gb black Honor 8 and model number is FRD-L04
Edit: Check your model number in the Settings > About Phone screen.
---------- Post added at 04:30 PM ---------- Previous post was at 04:22 PM ----------
On whether to stay stock or not... it's up to you. I unlocked my phone, which wipes it, then installed TWRP and SuperSU for root. Kept the ROM stock. But then I realized I forgot to do OTA updates first. Doing a quick update failed because TWRP didn't know what to do. I then selected a "Full Update" in the menu of the Updater. This actually completely wiped out my unlocked bootloader, recovery and root in one swoop. So now I am back to stock it seems so I'll have to unlock and start over if I want to redo it. But I'm not sure I am going to. I started using Helium made by the team that made ClockworkMod. It isnt able to back up ALL app data, but it does get a nice chunk of it which I think will be good enough for me for now.
Stay on stock until company stops pushing out OTA updates. I do this on all my phones.

Few questions if you don't mind.
1. Are you saying that even with unlocked bootloader and custom recovery you're still able to accept the OTA?
2. How would you restore the apps&data after accepting the OTA and going throu the unlocking/rooting process over again? Does Helium handle this w/o problems?
Thanks.
well, your question is complicated... but it has many type of sollutions
1.if its the nandroid backup is the only thing you want, then try backing up via honorsuit app,,
2.you can unlock the bootloader( dont worry you still be getting updates after this)
install twrp
make a backup
and find if someone did a backup with stock recovery
grab it
restore..
now you have your backup and youl be elligable for ota
3. if theres no one done a backup of stock recovery, dont worry... you can do it
unlock bootloader
now type fastboot devices
fastboot boot recovery twrp.img
this will temperorily boot twrp and you can have your backup
and BTW, you better be on stock, because, there is no stable custom rom yet and you are nearly getting a nougat update..:good:

1. Yes, but only if you select the FULL download update in the menu of the updater (which says it's around 1.6GB). This will wipe out your unlock, TWRP and root though. At least it did for me.
2. I don't know, I didn't re-unlock it because it was going to wipe my phone again. I decided to stay stock for now using Helium backup to backup my apps, SMS, etc.

I started using Helium made by the team that made ClockworkMod. It isnt able to back up ALL app data, but it does get a nice chunk of it which I think will be good enough for me for now.

I can't even get Helium to get past asking me for PTP mode on my H8. Even though I select PTP in the notifications and/or in the dev settings.

I also had this problem at first. I ended up having to switch from using their chrome add-on to installing the client for my OS (OS X in my case). So if you're using the chrome add-on try installing one of the clients instead.

Ok thanks, but I am already using the OSX app myself. Managed to get it to work just now, had to reboot and now can't get it to work again. Some say to select 'midi' instead of ptp to get it to work, but that doesn't work for me either. Seems its a timing thing and I have't worked it out yet.
Not having a cross platform backup mechanism certainly doesn't help people stay stock without root imho.
My phone just got updated. Not sure what changed. I couldn't find any info online.

Probably the security patch.
Taken from my 920
It brings us up to 10i where T-Mobile is currently at.
Ant way to block updates on a non rooted phone?
Could we possibly finally get a stock KDZ from this?
I froze that

I installed FOTAKill.apk and have not been prompted about any update.
No root needed, just install like any other apk. I've been using it since I had my Epic 4G.....LoL...... I hate the pushy notices.
Edit: It failed this time.....I just got the update prompt

I got the notification for that but I haven't updated yet.
Did you willingly install the update or did it happen automatically? Can anyone confirm?
I need to know if I should be freaking out or not. I haven't rooted yet but now I think I'm running out of time and need to get it over with.
I have "Automatic system updates" turned off in Developer options. Am I safe?

I'm currently on the NotSoStock modded rom with ATT variant, everytime the update goes to install it gets to the point where the phone goes to reboot and then boots into TWRP. Any ideas on what I should do?

You should stop trying to install it
I've run into this before on other devices. Basically, the phone assumes you have the stock recovery installed, and attempts to run a command very specific to that recovery. Since you have TWRP, such a command is not compatible, and therefore nothing happens. If you were to look at the terminal output in TWRP, you should see something indicating that flashing the update failed.
But as a general rule of thumb, you should stay away from OTA updates when rooted. They are generally not compatible with or safe for rooted devices and custom ROMs. Even if the update were successful, it would unroot your device and patch the update that allowed you to obtain root, and you'd be stuck without root indefinitely.
So in your case, you need to freeze/uninstall "System Update" app (or whatever it's called) and wait for the maintainer of your ROM to include the changes in the next ROM update.
If you're still bootlooping, in TWRP's file manager, try looking for the update and deleting it. I think it may be in the /cache folder, but please do some research before you go deleting stuff at random. You may also try connecting it to adb, restarting in root mode, and running "adb uninstall com.lge.lgdmsclient," or "adb hide com.lge.lgdmsclient." Basically, you need to find a method of preventing the update from initiating automatically upon boot.

Did you have Developer Options enabled, and did you have "Automatic software updates" set to OFF in developer options?
I'm not rooted yet. I'm seriously scared right now that I'm going to auto update on next reboot. I'm doing everything I can to backup all my stuff and somehow safely do DirtySanta without being at risk of updating.

Does anyone know whether a phone with this update can still use the dirtysanta exploit to root, or is that also broken by the security update?
Hello guys, I'm so sorry for having to bug you all eventhough there already has been many threats regarding a bricked Honor 8.
But however, i'm really stuck because apparently my Honor 8 model is FRD-L19C636 B380 currently running emui 5.0
This phone was bought in Malaysia. Due to my retardness, i tried rooting this phone but accidently wiped the entire system with my backup of twrp.
This phone is unlocked, its having stock recovery now, phone works as in, there are many apps missing and theres no keyboard and camera does not work.
I seem to have downloaded the update.app for the latest version but it does not include CUST.IMG which then doesnt allow me to fully flash the rom.
When I'm thinking about downgrading, it didnt work either because i cannot find the correct version for the downgrade. (I randomly picked a FRD L19 emui 4.1 from the website and flash it, it failed at CUST.IMG and further bricked my device but now its back to the state where theres no keyboard and apps are missing)
Bootloader is unlocked
I can access fastboot and stock recovery. Please I really need help D: I would never want to mess with my phone ever again, my mom bought me this phone and it was hard for her, I feel really bad for not taking care of it properly.

No there isn't. Wow I didnt even realize that. At the bottom, theres only advanced settings and developer options and about phone
Is there anyway to fix this? D: I've tried so many ways already. I spent the entire day trying by downloading update.zips. But the internet service here in Malaysia really sucks. Down to 500kbps/s
Rommco05 said:
hm, what about factory reset in twrp? This can be a risk, but u have full build number anyway it is a risk because phone no must boot - or this can be a quick solution...

I've tried this before, the first time, it just factory reset then same. No keyboard , no apps. The 2nd time, "there is no OS do you really want to reboot?"
Is it possible to use a different region with FRD-L19?
