Issues with calls and text - AT&T LG G3

Hey xda! Man it's been a while.
I have the lg g3 in AT&T. I've had it sense release. I had it rooted at the beginning when ideas theming roms and having fun on xda. Life changed and I stopped, unrooted, and been that way sense.
The past month I've been having issues with calls and texts. Some calls are not coming through and going straight to voicemail. The text issue is the most annoying. I'll recieve some but not most of the text people send me. Especially in a group message.
I just did a factory reset on the phone. In hoping that will help. But as I typed this a message from earlier got sent to me twice. Wtf lol. So, anyone else hear of this issue? Would you think rooting and using a stick rooted rom help? Everyone in the house and around me are not having issues on a variety of phones on AT&T.
Btw I have tried third party text apps. I really don't want to purchase a new phone yet. I rather enjoy this one.

That really sounds a lot like a network issue. If you have already factory reset, next step is get a new sim. If they don't fix it it would only ly to being a network issue.

Hi cwhitney24- did you flash a new ROM for your lg g3? If you did you should flash your stock ROM via backup and that should help or reflash the entire phone with odin it self don't worry you wont lose anything. Solution if none helps then bring the back and see what's causing the problem.

Awesome. Thanks. Glad to see xda is still helping out. I figured that would be the answer, but second opinions are always great to have.
Also nice to see an RC helping. ? I was an rc and an rt back in the day. I was also in the xda Google helpout team. On man those were the days. Fun times.
Thanks again.

Your welcome I usually to to keep up with the LG stuff stock wise anyway. I still own a G2 as my 2nd line. I honestly had a lot of problems out of my D850 but that was when running custom roms or my want to run stock international. Never liked How AT&T tinkered with the firmware.
Yeah try a new sim or try someone else's sim in it. I did have call issues on my D850 but that was due to running a D855 stock based rom.
Or you can also try my back to stock tot method as well, but if your already stock it might not make a difference.

[Q] G2X still automatically reboots after gingerbread update

I am totally new heree and not sure if this is the right place to post this. Please bear with me.
I updated my G2X when the Gingerbread version first came out. I just noticed that it still automatically rebooted itself twice last night while I was reading. The G2X was right nest to me and I heard the T-Mobile tone while it rebooted. Has anyone experienced this? I thought this update shall fix this bugging issue. I also notice the battery drains faster. Anyone knows how to root it after gingerbread update? Thanks.

Yup, go to the privacy menu and use the option.
The simple act of doing a reset does a lot for a smart phone.
I had an Iphone 3g where after 4.2.1 the solution to speed was to do 2 factory resets in a row.
Some people will return a laptop because they don't want to do a reboot.
------------After the reset, go to the marketplace and the first thing install the T-Mobile My Account app. The original version is problematic and can lead to buggieness

If you return a phone to Tmobile before doing a factory reset to see if it solves your problem then you simply don't value your time. A factory reset takes all but five minutes. If you call Tmobile you will have to wait for them to ship you a phone, and when it arrives it will be in "factory reset" condition anyway. If you go to a retailer and pick a replacement up, it too will be in the same condition. So if you are going to get a reset replacement, everyone would be wise to try a reset before rushing to Tmobile.
I had the same problems with GB after the update- I didnt do a factory reset though.
Moved to Eagles Blood and seems like a much more stable and cleaner rom- havent tested enough to see if it reboots or not though.
To root, flash clockwork mod recovery using nvflash and install a rooted rom. There's a rooted version of gb stock out there, or you could be adventurous and install one of the many custom ones we have.

Return your broken phone ASAP. Phones should not randomly turn off or reboot. It is broken. Do not try to fix a broken phone on your own. It will result in nothing but headaches. Take it back now!
Yeah my replacement phone still randomly dies, I'll come back in a few hours and have to do a battery pull. It doesn't reboot like the old one but it does die more.
Should I get the replacement replaced?

I ran Xboarders OTA GB with no tweaks since it came out. I then switched to EB 1.07 and had a ton of issues. I then returns to Xboarders OTA tweak and it was flawless. Now I am on to Weapon G2x.
Like I said, I really think a good scrub down and wipe, i.e. factory reset does wonders, at least folks should give it a try.
I absolutely agree that theres a good, actually great batch out there, I have NEVER had a single issue with my phone and its bone stock on 2.2.

so are you doing this in the store? or calling customer service?
So auto reboot issue is the only issue you people are facing in this mobile phone?
Returned phone . New works flawlessly. Tmo is aware of the issue. When u call you will talk first with an outsourced person. Get past them they will transfer u to tmo who will pretty much no questions asked process ur return

Should I get a replacement phone?

So I have had my s3 since around the 10th and I've loved it so far. Lately I have been having issues that surly aren't annoying but on the other hand im not exactly sure if a software update would fix anyone of these things. As of now I am not rooted at all and everything is stock. These are my main problems for the phone
1.) While texting on stock messaging app (I just love the stock app) the keyboard constantly freezes up while im texting
2.) Screen flickers yet not too drastically
3.) For some reason when I try to set my custom vibration pattern it only stays as the basic call vibration and only changes when im getting a phone call.
Like I said these issues really aren't drastic and im not sure if it really warrants a replacement phone at all. I talked to the VZW tech support and she said that its up to me really because I am deff able to get one for these issues. The only thing that made me have second thoughts was the fact that she said most likely im getting a "certified like new phone" meaning that its basically been used before and im not sure if I should really trust it. Anyways im really on the fence about this so if anyone can give me some in sight id really appreciate it.
ps: I did factory resets and everything and it still has not fixed these issues

Ok thanks ill do just that. My final question now is does this count as rooting my phone? just in case I do end up sending back my phone I dont want there to be any problems with it
Turn off Settings | Display | Auto adjust screen tone to address the flicker problem.
The keyboard is probably searching predictive text; I've only used the stock KB for a few minutes. Wife and I use SwiftKey without any problems (including right now).
I have vibration disabled completely, so I can't even guess on that one (I can't even find the option you're talking about and I know I've seen it before!)

reason #2 is enough to try and get it swapped.
That is a hardware issue, and will only get worse.
I have had a dozen smartphones, and anything that CONNECTS stuff (headphone jack to the motherboard, cables connecting screens etc) only get worse until they stop working entirely.
Good luck!

Flashing the stock image through Odin is not the same as rooting your phone. It would not trip the flash counter so you could still return it if you wish.

Once again, MIUI hosed my phone

I have not met a more destructive rom than the d2vzw MIUI port.
When I first flashed it a month ago, it was so unstable that I had to re Odin.
But that was nothing compared to the past 12 hours.
I tried a newer build. Still buggy. Wipes my MIN.
I spend the rest of the day zero-bar roaming and throwing every CDMA tool available at the problem.
Nothing worked until I wrote my efs.sbn backup to the phone. It was the last thing I was going to try before going to Verizon and and I never thought I would have to use the backup. I'm glad the MEID loss scare got people serious about backups.
Stay away from MIUI. Not all AOSP is created equal. Backup your efs. You will need it.
Disappointed to come in here and read that your phone wasn't bricked & that miui didn't get your phone wet.

I love miui, been using it for a few weeks on this phone and before this one I used it almost exclusively on my other three phones. I too lost my data and EIME, had backup thankfully but spent a few hours trying to get the darn thing working again. Ended up using nvrestore as a last resort and thankfully it worked. Miui is awesome, I can't wait for the kinks to get more ironed out.
No rom works the same on every phone. Sorry you had a bad experience with MIUI but there are many others on here who are using it as a daily driver with no problems.

I've been a little flash happy lately. I had not tried MIUI but had read about it. Watched the little vid clip. Why not? I generally scan the entire thread on a new rom so I was surprised when I found no app drawer. I thought it was broken. So I waited a couple of days and tried the Official drop. I was playing around with it (still no app drawer of course) looking for Titanium BU when I noticed something on the notification bar. I pulled it down and touch it. something about roaming. I looked through it and the locations were all overseas. Did I miss something? Nothing in the post said anything about a potential bomb built into this thing. After I let it go, I noticed my connection was gone. Nandroid backups did not help. I picked around and got my data back, but only 3g. I ended up calling Verizon and told them I *228'd my phone and they reprogrammed my SIM. All is well now, but I'm going to be more careful and I too am avoiding the MIUI roms.
I've never seen the appeal of MIUI. Sure, it's cute, fun, and different - but I lost interest after about 3 days on my OG droid.

the point is none of the aosp roms are near complete and still cause alot of headaches.
As the Android Turns...
I thought flashing was at your own risk? Anytime I flash I assume I am using my phone as a chip on the blackjack table. Though the odds are in my favor, it's still a gamble. Don't flash if your not up for dealing with a worse case scenario.
I do appreciate the update on your experience, but to deem the rom essentially as a virus is a bit off the mark. Not knocking your post, but your post may scare alot of people away from that developers hard work. All phones, and more importantly all users are different and your experience WILL NOT be everyone else's.
I love the MIUI interface and many of its features, but I have never been able to fun a stable version on any of my phones. Too bad, there are always bugs needed to be worked out in MIUI roms it seems, specially with data.

The problem is common with all AOSP roms which is why I stick to the TW ones for now. MIUI is a fantastic rom, I really miss it after using it for years on my Evo.
It all comes from proper prep. There are so many instances of aosp causing issues for users, but they stem from coming from tw/or back to it. Our friend above (prdog) gave me a wonderful education on cleansing before flashing, and I have yet to have an issue. Learn and understand your system, the partitions created and how they are/are not affected by certain wipes, and know that tw/aosp are very different and need to be treated as such. Don't be lazy, treat going from one to another as a new phone and let titanium be your friend. Always format your system regardless of what others may tell you, even on a dirty flash. It's insurance and pays off in the end.

As for reading about the ROM, where? I looked again, can't find it. I'll allow that the app drawer might be my own fault but that wasn't what distracted me for 4 hours and then the call to Verizon. It was the "roaming bomb". That was not mentioned either. Why would a U.S. ROM contain that? I know flash at my own risk and I do. I've never complained before and I really don't think I'm complaining now. I saw this thread and agree is all. This one wasn't ready for prime time.

I feel that I have tried every single possible thing I can think of to get my service back. I ODIN'd back to every single stock ROM I can find, I tried restoring my IMEI and nothing still.
It happened off MIUI V4 and now I've got nothing. Can someone please help? I've been without a phone for two days now.

I WAS able to receive text messages. Also, I could use my mobile data (i.e. Internet). Then, I lost ALL capabilities and the phone went to asking me if I wanted to switch to GLOBAL ROAMING. Still, at this point I could ODIN flash to stock. However, I could not ROOT the phone. Even with flashing back to stock (unrooting), the phone would not call, or text, etc...Okay, still with me? So, yesterday, I took the phone to the local Verizon Corporate store to have them look at it. A new SIM card did not fix the problem. In fact, when he booted the phone, the boot and splash screen both came up with a picture of a big LOCK (that was unlocked) and the word "CUSTOM". He looked at us and said, "That's not supposed to be there.". It never was until that time (mind you, I had unrooted). The phone wouldn't even boot to the VZW stock recovery. He was awesome to work with and we did so for over an hour. He was going to replace the phone with a new one under insurance (even though I don't have insurance on the phone). But the phone was not in the system. They couldn't find it. "Like it doesn't exist". So, today I am still messing with it and have been all over the internet looking for a solution. I've ODIN'd the stupid thing so many times in the last two days. NOW, I DON'T have the big un-locked LOCK or the "CUSTOM" anymore, but I can't get past the setup screen because the phone is ROAMING! It will ask which language, then, at the next screen, it tells me to wait while it connects to Verizon Wireless and activates itself. At this point, the phone will make a phone call, ON ITS OWN, and I listen to people telling me that I may be eligible for a $100 gift card as well as other advertisements. I used to be able to pull down the notification bar and setup my wifi. Now, I can't do that.
I've tried every stock ROM available all the way back to 4.0.4. At first, that's what I would do and then, just apply the OTAs until i reached 4.1.2. Now, I can't even get that far.
I'm sure I've forgotten some things, but please ask away if that will help clear anything up. I've never had any problems with this device. Could it be a virus? Or is it doomed for the recycler? I have no idea what to do. Thanks.
Also, I remembered, when I was able to see my phone's info it showed I was connected to the network and everything looked as it should and would, normally. I still couldn't send texts, call, etc...on Verizon's customer representative end, they would also say that it would look like the phone was trying to do something but never would.
When I would request my IMEI#, it checked out fine. However, when I would use the dialer for the IMEI check, I would get the IMEI# followed by a /01 or /02. Not sure what that means, but thought I'd throw that out there, as well. Thanks
Now, when I'm in the aforementioned set up screen, my phone direct-calls Alltel. "Thank you for calling Alltel". WTH.

Your phone is shot. Same thing happened to my original s3. Started with gps, then started losing internet, and messages not working then making calls started to go. I tried everything I could. I had to call Verizon and get them to send me a replacement.

Hi. Unfortunately, I couldn't give the specifics because I don't really know. Other than, the last flash I did was Odin back to stock (un-root) and do all the OTA updates (up to 4.1.2). So, whatever all the stock, non-rooted S3s are running. Sorry I couldn't give more info. Thanks.

Thanks. Yeah, I was on the phone from 11pm last night until 1am this morning with Verizon and they couldn't get it working. Put in another "network fix" ticket but haven't heard back. Looks hopeless. My contract is up and I am really looking forward to the S4, but money is tight and I was going to wait a bit before that purchase. I was using an old Samsung SCH-U900 Flipshot as my backup. I don't have to tell anyone, but that sucked. Now, I can't even use that because they need the line clear for the work order. So, I'm helpless. How the heck did I survive before cell phones?!

Welp, as a follow up, sent the phone off to Samsung. They sent it back with an updated PRL...and it WORKS!!! :good:

Hey, no problem and thanks. I was going crazy with the old Droid X. Anyway, because of the outcome, I thought it would be a good reason to post and maybe help others. ORIGINALLY, when we first called Verizon, that's the first thing I wanted them to try. Or at least let me try. I just couldn't get past the language set up screen and the phone making calls on its own. All they would do is a factory reset. Still not sure why the phone went berserk and changed up on me. Oh well, it's back now and I couldn't be happier.
