Hi,
I have nexus 5 with:
Android ver. 6.0.1
Baseband: M8974A
Build number: MMB29S
I've got a polish sim card ("Play") which works with my Iphone 4s, but when i insert it to my Nexus 5 ....i don't get any reception only emergency only !
Please help
Thank you all
Can the phone see any mobile networks? Could the imei blocked or blacklisted?

I can see mobile networks, but when i choose any one of them it shows:
"Can't connect to the network right now"....the notification is showing no matter which carriers i choose.
Hmm, would the sim card be tied to the iphone's imei? Do you have another sim card to try with the nexus 5? Does the sim card work in another phone (not the iPhone)?
The sim card works fine with the iPhone, as I mentioned earlier, the sim is a Polish sim (pre-paid), when I use it with the iPhone it connects with Vodafone. But when I use it with the nexus 5 6.0.1 OS it cannot register to any carrier.
Try the sim in another phone (not the iPhone) just to see if it can connect. Maybe the sim card is tied to the iPhone's imei.
This thread is now closed, as rose10 has started another here http://forum.xda-developers.com/google-nexus-5/help/help-unlock-carrier-tool-t3296872
@rose10 please do not start new threads for the same question.

Can networks actually tell what phone is being used to use the sim card?
Like, does the imsi number for example, contain this sort of information.
or is it purely stored seperately in imei
thanks in advance!!
yes the network identify by sim and imei nr.
if a phone is stolen the sim and imei are both blocked
leaving both of them unable to be used on the network
and any network in corporation with it
cheers..
so does the sim nr that gets sent to network say what phone its using, like 'Hey im in an omnia' or the numbers seperate?

i know att distinguishes just fine...within a few minutes of switching sim card to another phone, their corporate website register the type of phone the sim is inserted into. ofc, the phone must be charged and powered on...
what r u up to anyways!?
well, got mugged on holiday, but had taken sim card out to use phone on plane. Consequently used my sim in mates phone, but know some insurance companies wont replace phone if sim wasnt in it (absolutely daft imo), so wondewring if i claimed wehther theyd be able to tell if id put sim into another phone.
Wondering if anyone can help, im using team Eos European 3g rom zoom. now i tried 1 sim card and the 3g works perfectly but when i try my other sim, i enter the pin code on screen , it accepts it, then immediately says "Sim card removed, the mobile network will be unavailable until you restart...." .
The sim card definitely isnt broken because it works in my phone and 3g modem on my pc. I've tried restarting the xoom with Wifi off and no luck.
Thanks

how old is that "other" sim card? Reason I'm asking is that sim cards use different voltages and old cards tend to cause problems in modern devices.
Around here, providers usually swap sims for free if you say that you've got a problem with one, so I'd go for an exchange if your sim is older that maybe two years...

Its actually brand new, got it on the weekend. It works perfectly everywhere else. I think i'll go to the provider anyway today and see if i can try a sim swap.
This really is baffling me now. I went back to the providers store and tried a different one of their sim cards and it doesnt work either. I just cant understand why my xoom can read certain providers sim cards and not others? (Its definitely not network locked). Could it possibly be the type of sim card (as in a 32k vs 64k etc)?
Any help would be greatly appreciated
I recently bought an unlocked Samsung Google Nexus S GT-i9020T from eBay. The Device works fine on TMobile network. When I got it to India and tried inserting an Airtel SIM in it. The phone shows complete Signal strength but says emergency calls only. On the lock screen it says insert SIM.
When I search for available mobile networks it shows my network but unable to connect to it. It does not even ask for unlock code when I insert a SIM from another carrier.
Is this because the phone is locked or is there some other problem?
The only lock you (might) have on that phone is the boot loader. Google phones are not carrier locked.
the problem lies elsewhere (I don't know where)
Thanks for the reply, i could see phone status as UNLOCK at Boot loader time, when i insert my sim (INDIA) it is not recognizing the sim/network.
stupid question:
Have you tried with another sim card?

your phone is bootloader unlocked but still it has network lock. unlock it for network(service provider)
GSM nexus devices are not looked to a carrier period.

Hi.
Your phone i9020T is unlocked from factory.
Your SIM tray is broken. It's a common issue if you have tried to insert a micro-Sim adapter.
Look at my EBAY's user "manuelpulgar".
I'm actually selling original ones.
Best whises.

This could be true. If the phone was sim locked, it would give a message. On the other hand, I also use a 9020T I had bought from US and it wasn't locked.
I suggest get it checked at a Samsung service center. Nexus s was officially released in India and Samsung will be able to help you.

I bought a Samsung Galaxy S3 clone (unlocked of course) with Android 4.1 and an MTK6577 processor. When I put in my sim card it's detected as a T-mobile SIM, but then it goes to NO SERVICE. It, however tells me I have a New voicemail, which I confirmed by placing the SIM card in another phone. Is there any way I can fix this?
Thanks!

I have a polish sim card which works fine with my other Iphone, when i insert the same sim card to my nexus 5 it can't register to any carrier !
Why is that, is there any solution for this bizarre problem ?
Thanks
You tried the sim with an iphone (works) and Nexus 5 (doesn't work). Did you try the sim in a third phone?
The Nexus 5 cannot be carrier unlocked because it was never carrier locked.
I don't have a third phone. Do you think that I should flash another radio ver. on the phone?
The Nexus 5 detects the sim card? If it does detect the sim card, I think your iphone's imei is somehow tied to the sim card.
What does it mean?
And how can I resolve it?
I would really appreciate any help ?
P.s.
Apparently a different sim (vodaphone) doesn't work in this phone either.
???
Has the vodaphone sim been activated?
If both sim cards do not work in the phone and the phone can see but not connect to networks, it may be possible that the phone is blacklisted? Is the imei correct?

That's friend phone....so....
He said that the sim (which doesn't work right now) worked before. I don't know about the Vodafone sim.
How can i find out that this phone is in the blacklisted?
Thanks again,
You can check the imei here: https://swappa.com/esn
Since the vodaphone sim is not active, it is not a good test of the Nexus 5. It would be best to try an active/working sim in the N5.
1. How can I know if my phone tied to the sim card ? (you mentioned it before)
2. Do you know this website http://www.imei.info/
Thanks
I don't know that site but the swappa site will tell you if the phone is blacklisted.
The only way to tell if the sim card is tied to the iPhone;'s imei is to try the sim in another phone to see if you can connect to the carrier network. In the USA, AT&T tie their prepaid sim cards to a phone imei.
As I mentioned before the sim card worked fine with my iPhone.
But the "fishy" story here is that the Vodafone's sim card doesn't work as well.
So it might be a blacklisted issue.
Your thoughts?
Did you check the imei on the swappa site?
Note yet
I would check the imei to make sure the imei is not blacklisted and does belong to a nexus 5.
I updated my friend to do so.
Thanks
