Add boot sound to rooted stock 3.1.1 - Shield Tablet Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Anybody know if this is possible? I have managed to change boot animation to a much better animation rather than the boring stock "Nvidia powered by android" one.
But...
I have no idea how to add a sound on boot. Can anyone point me in the right direction.
I really want to add that whispered Nvidia sound.
Will sound awesome if its possible.

What sound format? Tried mp3 and ogg. I can get repackaged animation to boot but won't trigger the sound. Worth noting that it doesn't like files zipped by es explorer (even when set to store) for some reason Bizarre..... I think it must add slight compression still.

Honeycomb Music app

Anyone using the Honeycomb music app? Im giving it a try it installed just fine for me. Works good and looks really nice. Give it a try, just google it.
Just got it. it works great and is better looking than the stock music player.

where is the apk?
Just Google "honeycomb music player apk". A bunch of links out there.
I like the player but the thing I miss is the ability to use the Inspires Dolby or SRS sound enhancements. They really make a difference.
I'm using it. It's pretty nice

Sometimes a really good pair of IEM's will cure the need for sound enhancers. IE7/8, Westone UM3, Shure 500 series. These top off the rack IEM's are why i love digital music.
i tried a couple of places but it never installs right for me
I just installed it two things bug me though. I there any way I could get it working as a replacement for the stock music player? Like making it work with the lockscreen and work right in the notifications area?
It's much better than stock even though it can be glitchy.

You would have to remove the stock app to make new one default.
I get the pause and play buttons on the lockscreen, is that what your talking about.

It must be because i'm still using sense. I'm going to flash a different lockscreen and see if that fixes it.
I removed the stock apk and sideloaded the honeycomb music player Is there a specific way to replace it instead of that?
where have you guys gotten yours? i want to use it but it never works

1. You posted in the wrong section, this should have been in General.
2. To change the startup sound, it needs to be PowerOn.wav. Also, if you just changed the file extension from mp3 to wav, it also won't work. You would need to re-encode the file from MP3 to WAV.

Atrix 2 Music Player Sound Quality Improvement?

Is there any way to improve the sound quality, its not horrible but Im wondering if it is, on here Ive seen something like this for the galaxy S2
"samsung-galaxy-s2-sii-via-dsp-manager-cyanogenmod-7-music-player" guess you all will have to google it without the quotes because I cant post links right now since Im new, but it should be the first link that comes up.
Do I need to have CyanogenMod installed (Which we cant right now of course) to use this or is it just the player ripped from there and I can install like a regular rooted app
If I'm not mistaken it should just be a simple apk. You can dump it in your system apps folder or install it normally. Those apps.are just heavily skinned and tweaked to work with a broader spectrum of devices. If.you get the music player can u upload it here as well?

Yeah, go to settings/audio effects and you can set two different profiles, one for the phone speaker and one for the headphone port, check it out.

By default the music player has a bunch of horrible sound effects enabled. Turn them off and I think you'll find it's much better.
settings - audio effects
thanx for the input I went through and compared it with the stock and poweramp and im not noticing an extreme improvement in the sound to justify removing the stock music app Ill just stick with poweramp and i did turn off the audio effects and it does sound much better too
Really the music app im referring to isnt that great either to me its simple which is ok but I like the functionality for poweramp better ie.. player screen available when locked etc... but Ill try to remember to post a link up once Im back on my comp but if you dont want to wait for me to post the app up you can google what Ive got in quotes and it should be the first link
PA is my music player of choice too.

unlocked, sideloaded MediaHouse and XBMC

Hello all
I am happy to say I received my Nexus Player today. It worked with no issues out of the box.
I managed to unlock the bootloader through "adb reboot bootloader" and running "fastboot oem unlock twice". It's necessary to run it twice as there is no volume control and no power button to use to select and confirm in the unlock process.
I managed to dump MediaHouse using APK extractor. I also grabbed XBMC from the download site for it. These two applications allow me to access my NAS and XBMC respectively. I can't seem to add the applications to the main launcher so i have to access them through Settings / Apps / Open to launch them. This is a bit clumsy but not horrible to perform.
It's clear that there is no real application switching - i actually had two videos playing in different apps at one point. It isn't very clear how to get back to the same place in the one video when trying to switch between them. There's no obvious way to fast forward in a video which also make things a bit tricky.
I've found the sound and the audio playback to be very good. There is obvious overscan that means i lose the edges of the picture but again it's liveable.
I'm very pleased overall with the player. I know usability issues will get sorted as others start to play with it as well.

That looks to replace the stock launcher. I'd really like to add my asps in the stock launcher.....
Iskie
It does not do that. Try it.

The overscan should be fixable in your TV settings - my TV has separate settings for each HDMI port so I have to set it for each new device I connect. As long as you have overscan issue your TV is nor really displaying 1080p image since it is upscaling everything a bit.
Unfortunately not all TVs have that. My Panasonic plasmas do not. [emoji19]

Oh yeah. Totally forgot.
Can't get this to work at all with Google Play Music (the only app I use to stream.)
- Flashed V4A 2.3.4.0 as a system app
- Used Tasker to set permissive on boot
- Disabled NuPlayer
- Disabled and froze Audio Effects.
Enabled: Yes
Status: Normal
Audio Format: Supported
Processing: No
Sampling Rate: 48000

Put it in compability mode. I got it to work with normal mode after flashing extreme music mos, but for gplay music just disable Motorola equalizer and put it in compability mode and select it in sound effects.

Thank you! I've been so used to having it easily working on Nexus 5 that I forgot about compatibility mode.
This method also works with a shell command I have in Tasker that allows V4A to run without having to use AwesomePlayer and setting SELinux to permissive.
/system/xbin/supolicy --live "allow mediaserver mediaserver_tmpfs:file { read write execute };"

Your comparing stock sound to Viper. No comparison. If you install viper and nothing sounds different then something is wrong. To troubleshoot you can search for viper4androind thread. Or tell me how you installed and will try to help.
For reference so that he knows what you mean by that. Are you saying that Viper has better decoding (ie closer to source) or that it just has a better soft mixer to make things sound better? Ie one of those is better if your BYI DAC and the other is just trying to make the best out of the stock DAC and speakers. Or is it a great app for both of those cases?
It's been a while since I had Viper on one of my phones, I will have to give this a try and report back how it sounds. Thanks for the post!

Actually, he/she is making a very valid point. The audio reproduction on the phone is one of the best on the market and it's no slouch compared to standalone audio equipment.
http://www.gsmarena.com/moto_x_style_pure_edition-review-1308p6.php#aq
To take audio and run it thru a bunch of software filters is just going to degrade the quality. Period. You think it sounds better because you're accustom to crappy sounding sound. The only real way to make it sound better is to get some decent headphones and maybe a headphone amp if the headphones have a high impedance.

After thinking about it. Your right. This phone has best sound of any phone or tab I've had. Og droid, HTC rezound, galaxy nexus, Sam g4, LG g2, nexus 7 2013. Also have a g4 which is loud but sounds like crap when pushed. Always used Viper to mask the poor sound quality or volume. But on the other hand your saying as popular as viper is, where just listening to crap. Then we all have some pretty bad hearing. I think it is different for everyone as we all don't hear the same sounds so tweaking is the only way to reproduce what we are missing. I will try running with no viper on my MXP and see if it appeases me. Thanks for the input though I feel this will always be debated.
I am unable to get Viper4Android to work. SELinux is set to permissive, V4A is a system app and AwesomePlayer is enabled. Am I missing something?

I had this problem after a factory reset trying to correct a signal issue. I installed as I have outlines and nothing. So I restored the backup I had with viper running. Didn't want to spend to much time fixing it cause we should have roms relatively soon. Wish I new what else to say. Viper is the easiest to install on a mostly stock Google experience. One thing I can suggest is to turn of amp eq in MXP music player.
