Uhhhh, use Clockworkmod's back-up(you can find it in Latest recovery>Back and Restore menu). It's the best you got. Depending on the number of apps you have and their size, the back-up might range up from 700mb to 1gb+. It's gonna be a complete image back-up just like you do it on Windows .
thanks, but how can we Restore the backup?

Just launch Clockworkmod then go to Backup and Restore And restore your backup.. lol
no, don't listen to them! the best way would be to strictly avoid reading other posts and immediately open a new thread about "how to wipe your behind"!

Wipe Factory data in stock recovery.
Re-install your Sbf,
then re-root,
re-install 2nd-init
then you can restore your backup.
Hope it helped
Hi all,
On the forums I found a zip which lets you flash a kernel with which I can overclock my device. But what when I want to flash my old kernel back. I could go make a backup and restore that one. But say I use this overlock-kernel for a month, next I don't want to use it anymore and I want to go back to my CM9 ICS 4.0.3's original kernel again. Then I don't want to lose all my apps and other data by flashing the CM9 ROM again or restoring a backup, see?
Titanium backup has not proven to be the best backup system there is, you allways lose apps after restoring and so. So my question is, can you make an .img of your current kernel or anything like that?
Furthermore, the CM9 zip contains two maps and a file:
- system
- META-INF
- boot.img
Is it just a matter of putting one of those in a zip and flash that to your device.
Clearly I do not understand how to backup your kernel and flash it back later. Please advise me on this!
Boot partition contains compressed kernel image (zImage) and ramdisk so yes, you can backup only kernel, 4EXT Recovery Touch allows to backup and restore selected partitions.
hi, i want to move from cm 10.2.x to one of the cm 11 nightlies. i backup my phone quite often from cwm, however i never had to use the backup and i am unsure how to restore my data and apps on top of the new build. doesnt the backup overwrite the whole system?
any help appreciated
thanks!
That's correct. Restoring a backup via CWM will replace everything and take you back to 10.2. Using something like Titanium Backup will allow you to back up your apps and restore them on the newly installed CM11. Alternatively, you could use Nandroid Manager to restore your apps from the CWM backup (although I can't vouch for this approach, as my only successful use of Nandroid Manager, so far, was to restore apps to a replacement phone, on the same CM branch)

TI Backup will also read individual apps from a CWM backup. That said, you should be able to dirty flash CM11 over your 10.2 installation. Having the backup around would be good if you want to revert.

Oops - so what do you guys do when trying nightlies, re-install everything? I have small details in config, for instance the order of shortcuts in homescreen, etc., that would take very long to re install. Or nightlies from the same version are meant to be dirty flashed?
Thanks again

You can dirty flash a newer CM-11 nightly over an older one. You can dirty flash a CM-11 nightly over an older CM version (Currently TeamApexQ only supports flashing over a 10.2.x installation. I personally haven't had to wipe between incremental installations since I first installed CM9 on my phone. Went from 9 to 10.1 to 10.2 to 11.
What is the best way to switch between different ROM's?
For example, I want to switch between:
* Stock ROM (I997UCLB3-CWM-root-deodex-extras.rar)
* BeanStalk ROM (BeanStalk-4.4.4065-20140918-infuse4g.zip)
The main problem, that I see, is different partition layout. in those ROM's. And I don't know any other way, but repeat installation of BeanStalk 3 times (just to install it), run its Recovery to restore its backup and then, when I want to switch back to stock ROM, I have to unbrick the phone with Odin3 (it restores old Recovery) and use its old Recovery to restore ROM's backup. Unfortunately there are 2 different CWM Recoveries involved (v2.5.1.3 - "red" and v6.0.5.1 - "blue"), that use different formats and it looks like they can't restore other backups correctly...
Is there a one stable Recovery that could do the job by simply making backups and restore old ROM's when I need it?
Thank you in advance
Can someone tell please tell me that.......
can i restore only data from twrp of one rom to another of same android.....
As an example
i had installed ressurection remix rom(first rom) and i wanna install CM 13(second rom) both are android 6.0....
now i want to restore the data backup from first rom (not system, recovery or anything else ) to another rom......
will it work properly if i use same data from first rom to second rom..........
please help.....
thanks in advance.....:fingers-crossed:
Data include your apps, so if they include system apps like messaging applications, there are chances it breaks, since AOSP and CM are not the same.
You could give it a try, but beware. You should take another option (save sms/mms with an app, system apps data and apps with titanium backup, and so on.
I guess that it's longer than simple restore but also safer.
