Does anyone have any recommendations for regular PET film screen protectors? I need something to hold me over until the tempered glass issues get sorted out.
I bought the 3-pack from Verizon when I pre-ordered my phone. I had to cut the top portion off where the phone curves because the screen protector didn't stick there and it had no hole for the front facing camera. This from Verizon no less!

I'm having the same issue. The hard plastic screen protector lifts of where the G5 screen slants down at the top. A fix would be to pre-mold the protector to fit this curve at the top. Kind of a bummer to have to cut it off below the speaker. Otherwise a great phone.
Does it come with one already applied to the screen or is it just a plastic wrap around the phone?
It is just thin plastic.

Mine came with a protector already applied front and rear. the plastic that was on the phone had to be taken off to put the SIM in and much to my surprise there was a screen protector already on the screen.
There's a screen protector on it under the plastic sleeve. You can tell it's there by running your hand over the front facing camera area. It's a finger print magnet tho so I took it off.

Same with mine. I didn't realize it was there until I noticed the seam around the prox sensor.
I left mine on, no problem with touch responsiveness.
So?
Is it just plastic or not. I think it is. I bought a very expensive screen protector cause of the expense of the phone and it does not fit the LG G5. It also doesn't stick down at the top where it curves. Taking this back again.

Seems like it's just cheap, generic shipping-protection plastic, yeah. I had a screen protector that shipped with my case, but it also didn't stick at the top where it curves... So, it's a good thing I was just buying for the case. Now I just have to never, ever, ever drop it on that spot at the top where it curves...
so, what about applying a tempered glass protector? On top of the existing one? or remove the existing one?
I like the existing protector - it's been quite fine IMHO, and no bubbles, very smoothly applied!

I imagine it's gonna be a pain. With that light curve at the top, you'll have to be sure you get the right protector, and even so, it might just not cover the curved part at the top. The screen protector I got wasn't glass (harder plastic) and didn't have a curve to fit, so I think it was a G4 (didn't have one, myself, just assuming it didn't have a curved top) protector that was trying to be passed off... Research, research, research first!
The protector I ordered stops just past the top edge of the 'screen, below the speaker. we'll see how that goes. It's scheduled to arrive Friday...
So this is cool, at least I think it is cool. Annoyed with all the film and tempored glass screen protectors out there with either terrible coverage or close but noticeably not full coverage I undertook to make my own solution. As a secondary goal, I wanted the front of my white Mate 9 to be black like the old Nexus phones as it looks far better. I tried several black tempored glass protectors but as mentioned before none fit edge to edge or even without missing the edge of the screen and covering the inside by a little bit. Also, all had an ugly rectangular cutout for the Huawei lettering which looked terrible in black on white phone but even white on white was tacky looking.
So I went looking around and came across a replacement glass piece for the Mate 9 and ordered a few. I was going to take to a local repair place and just have them swap out but none would do it since the glass and digitizer glue together. So I started thinking, why not just glue the replacement glass right on top of the existing glass? I opened one of the ones I received and put it in place and it looked and felt good so that was my new plan. I looked around and found this film/sticker OCA LCD adhesive and got a pack (didn't want to use real glue as my hope was I could remove without damage).
After I got the adhesive I tested it on a couple of the tempored glass protectors I had to get a feel for how it holds and works and to see if removable and all checked out. I decided to just use the film under top and bottom bezel portion of the screen since I couldn't find the OCA LCD adhesive that was cut for the Mate 9 and long story short (yes, too late) all good, looks and feels and works great! See pictures attached (note, I much prefer the feel of the matte protectors so pics show the new glass and a matte Skinomi screen protector - I will probably take it off but for now just tossed it on as that is what I am used to).

And for the record, do not try this at home. It will probably kill you and certainly break your phone. This story is for entertainment purposes only.
wouldnt that mean the edge of the replacement galss still have a bubble at the edge ? wouldnt that still cause a halo ? if i my understanding is correct you are placing a replcaement LCD Glass on the existing screen like a screen protector ,?
Actually, no - no halo and no edge problems like with many temp glass protectors. The only flaw is since I only used the adhesive tape at bezels on top and bottom there is a little side gap (imperceptible in use and look but dust could get in) so I have to get the adhesive along the thin sides but with care that can be done.

I like it. Looks good as oem. But wont do it on mine lol. Thanks for sharing!
Which OCA LCD Adhesive did you get? (which size/phone kind/type you pick)
About to put a dent in my bank account for either the MHA-L29 4GB or MHA-AL00 6GB...
Every phone I've had - every screen scratches, so I just put a glass screen protector on it - annoying that they (OEMs) make the screens not flat so they aren't edge to edge, like wtf???

I'm planning to do this also, it seems safe because you can remove the sticker, isn't it? How can doing this break the phone???
I just received my IMAK glass screen protector. Purchased this on AliExpress. Here are some photos of it and how I installed it. I used the 3 stickers to make a hinge after it's positioned correctly. That way I just have to remove the backing and then stick it. I'll just seperate my review into pros and cons.
Pros:
-The screen protector fits nicely. I chose this one because it has the little speaker cut out on top.
-It feels good because it is glass.
-It protects the screen well because it is glass.
Cons:
-It is glass so it has some thickness to it.
-Holds fingerprints more than screen itself
-It has a little orange peel so it's not crystal clear. You can see in the picture of the reflection of the light that it looks a little muddy instead of mirror like.
Overall, it's good for the price, but not perfect. Personally I'm back and forth between glass and film screen protectors. I'll give this a try for a few weeks and then make a final decision.

Those guiding stickers are ingenious, never seen them before and the idea is just so simple and clever!!
Perfect, I know what I have to do when my phone and Nillkin protector arrive.
Thanks for sharing.
That is a lot nicer than the Riffue Tempered Glass screen protector I bought on Amazon. This one is thin and has a good height but is several mm too narrow, it doesn't even cover the LCD display let alone the entire screen/glass.
the one i order covers like half of the screen lmao wtf
just ordered one like yours.
I had one similar too this, but the dust collected over front camera under the glass.
It has some glue on it, does this IMAK one used static?
Here is a link to the one i bought.
I tried many different ones but for me this is the best.
The coating is very good against fingerprints. It fits perfect on the screen.
The sides of the screen are a little bit curved down which is good for the dust.

I agree, this is the best screenprotector i have ever bought. It fits perfect and the coating feels the same as on the original screen :good::good:
Just wanted to echo everyone else about how great the Imak full coverage screen protector is. I went through four different screen protectors so far (unknown brand thin plastic one, MOFI tempered glass, another MOFI tempered glass, and finally the IMAK full coverage)
The thin plastic one came bundled with the phone and would scratch if you so much as raised your voice at it. Placed it on just as a temporary protector while waiting for the others to come from Aliexpress. It just barely covered the display and left about 1.5mm of space on the edges. The phone was accidentally smacked out of my hand once and landed on a sandy floor face down, which I later discovered upon removal of the screen protector had caused a small chip on the screen near the edge, so the protector might have absorbed some of the impact.
The first MOFI tempered glass I got was a "full coverage" one, but it arrived with notches cut out on the bottom where the proximity sensor and front camera are. The worst thing about this one was that it only had adhesive on the edges, so there was a really distracting and noticeable rainbow effect (newton rings) in the middle of the screen.
The second MOFI tempered glass was also full coverage, and this time it didn't have notches at the bottom, just a hole cutout where the proximity sensor is located. The adhesive type was the same as the previous one, edge only, resulting in the newton ring effect. It also mysteriously cracked for no reason.
The one I have on currently is the IMAK full coverage screen protector. Indisputably the best out of all of them, the protector fits exactly over the entire front glass, and instead of cutout holes at the bottom, the chin at the bottom is fully glass, blackened except for where the proximity sensor and front camera are. Full adhesive all throughout means there is no rainbow effect, and the LED notification light is even tinted slightly so that it blends in with the chin, and is invisible until it turns on! The only flaw about this screen protector (yes, there is one) is that the area underneath the front camera is too thin to apply adhesive, so as a result there's a tiny gap between the glass and phone that can let in dust after a while. The dust does not seem to affect the front camera, and I never take selfies anyway, but I have yet to figure out a good way to get the dust out of there.
I have never had a screen protector fit this perfectly, even for phones other than the Mi Mix 2. Most other screen protectors have cutouts for the proximity sensor/front camera/both, but this one blends in so well that it feels like it's not even there.
Does anyone know if this protector has a dot matrix on the screen (tiny dots that reflect)? I purchased a Misha 3D protector from Amazon which looks identical to this, and it's great except for the grid of dots across the screen.

When I tried it there were no dots, just very reflective and had a weird smudge pattern going on which ruined it.
The flossmall one posted elsewhere is so much better.
Lol those kind of screen protectors damn sucks, they are not full glue, so that make lot of reflections. The nillkin (regular tempered glass, full glue, no black borders), is perfect and cover all the display... So why buy this imak piece of ****?

After putting the screen protector on, I take a toothpick and put some glue from a Pritt-stick in the little gap underneath the camera. Not much, just enough to close the gap. When it has dried you can color it with a black whiteboard marker if you want. When you remove the screen protector you can easily rub it off. Works great for me :good:
Thanks!
Anyone tried these?

Hi
the factory screen protector ruined after few weeks of live. :-((
a small bubble appeared onto the surface, and I would like to remove the screen film protector
AFAIK the LCD glass screen should be a Gorilla glass 5,... i.e. the LCD glass itself is harder than the "protector"...
Could you give me some advice on HOW to safely remove the damaged screen protector ?
May I warm it before removing ?
Which temperature is suggested , not to damage the IC o the phone ?
BR
Giuliao
The factory screen protector is made of plastic and can be removed without any heat or trouble. Just use a finger-nail or the tip of a razor blade to get one corner lifted and then easily peel the rest of it off.
Source : Myself.
My screen protector also formed a bubble near the camera and was absolutely poor quality which actually led to MORE scratches than without a protector. I now have a tempered glass protector installed and feel safe now.
