Wondering what the OTA update is after installing the stock debloated and rooted 20f for my AT&T D850. It is 5.0.1. Is there a later phone software available from ATT? I assume if I install I will lose root?
Thank you!

If you install while rooted it'll either tell you no or result in boot loop. If you have twrp it's not gonna work. You have to be stock to take an OTA update.

Hi,
I have been trying to update my phone to 4.4.3 but not very successful so far. I'm using custom Android HD ROM 7.0 by Mike. I tried flashing stock recovery then applying the OTA update that I found in this thread. However, my phone stays 4.4.2 after flashed. I am using T-mobile on a Verizon phone and don't get any OTA notification either, so I was trying to flash it manually. Help!

The OTA will only succeed if your phone has pure stock. The OTA is not a full ROM but a patch system that builds upon previous content already on the phone. If you want to take the OTA, you must flash full stock first.
Hi all.
I'm rooted on my LG G Pro 2, Hon Kong version, but I didn't installed any custom recovery. Now my device says I can upgrade to lollipop via OTA.
If I haven't any custom recovery, do you know could I upgrade by OTA without fear??
Thanks in advance.
Regards.
rooted device can not be upgraded via OTA... no matter you installed custom recovery or not..
it goes the same for every android devices..

Curious... On the OTA upgrade to D83810d from previous version I was rooted too. And not only OTA went fine but I even didn't lose root. That's why I was wondering...
Thanks.
I have moto g xt1033. If I root, will I get a OTA update?
If I flash any custom ROM will I get OTA update?
Thanks in advance

If you root stock ROM, you'll get an update, but you won't be able to install it, because your system partition would be detected as tampered and update would fail. You need stock untouched ROM to update. If you have custom ROM, you won't get update at all.
It all comes to this - you have to have Completely stock rom without root (not unrooted but completely stock)

Motorola has released new OTA update of 371.4 MB in India.
I read that since I am a rooted user I must not try to flash this update.
I would like the help from xda to install these updates. Should I install stock firmware 6.0.1 first?
Two ways to do it
1. Flash stock ROM 6.0from factory firmware link. Allow ota to download and phone should upgrade to 6.0.1
2. Flash the 6.0.1 stock ROM which is made available in factory firmware link. -Update: 6.0.1 is already the updated system with the new ota of 371mb.
Option 2 is more convenient.
While upgrading to mm 6.0 via ota, on my rooted phone I had tried flashing the stock recovery and cleaning the root. but it did not help and I landed with a soft bootloop. The ota checks for the original fingerprint of the stock system which is why you need to be on stock firmware for the ota update method.
You need stock recovery and stock firmware.

hi everyone so this may be a stupid question however I wonder, there will be probably soon an update to marshmallow and i'm willing to update mine rooted lollipop rom.
would it be better if I unroot it by flashing my stock rom with flashfire and then update or wouldn't it be a problem if I update my rooted phone with the Ota?

Flashing stock with flashfire is more risky than applying OTA on a rooted phone. The best would be to wait for a kdz image of V20a/6.01, flash over the phone wiping all data.

Rename ur unrooted system img to rootedsystem.img and then flash it using download mode (theres a few threads showing you how to do this i done it and it worked for me and i dont like taking risks but ive done it alot times) after that put it on ur phone and flash it the same way u flashed root it worked for me 5 times and i dont like taking risks and your phone goes back to stock without deleting data or any information
