Xperia M2 D2303 Cannot boot into recovery/SuperSU Binaries cannot update - Sony Xperia M2

Problem #1. My phone refuses to boot into recovery. Every method I've tried ends up failing, the screen flashes for a split second, then boots normally. It's strange.
Problem #2. SuperSU is a motherf$#£&er. I've tried everything, the binaries just won't update.
I am not sure if the above problems are related, although they may well be.
I am fairly new to this whole scene, I've had a rooted Xperia M2 for a few days, the bootloader is unlocked, too.
It's on Lollipop 5.1.1, if that helps. I've tried a lot of things, flashing stock ROM, wiping device and restoring, re-rooting, nothing seems to work.
If anyone can assist me, that'd be fab.

That seemed to do what it was supposed to do with no errors, but it didn't fix either one of my problems.

Try to install recovery again.

Everything is screwed for me. I can't even RSD back to stock. I can access TWRP, but can't wipe System or Data. Fastboot is just there and won't actually push anything. I already have a Moto X now, and I was talking about this issue about a week ago on the Android Development subcat, but I thought I would give it one last go on here to see if I can at least make it a backup.

Maybe if you could give some more detail about what exactly you can and can't get the phone to do, what screens can be accessed, and what you did that lead to this condition, we could offer some advice.
Also, no offence to the devs, but twrp is the devil lol. Most issues I have had in the past have led back to it in one way or another, so I never use it. (Just my opinion)

I can get to the Fastboot screen, I can access TWRP, and I can get the phone to bootloop at the boot animation screen.
I can't push anything through ADB or Fastboot, I cannot mount data or system in TWRP or otherwise. RSD comes back failed every time with every single stock build I use.
Literally two weeks ago, I was in bed, watching TV, with the phone charging. I unlock it to see if I had any notifications, and it kept saying that Nova launcher FC'd. So logically, I rebooted my phone and that's when it started boot looping.
I did nothing to the phone for a couple of hours, it was on the official CM 10.2 11/9 build. I had that ROM running fine for at least 24 hours before it went FUBAR.

Well that sux.
Your problem is different than what I made this for but I was hoping it would work for you.
What did it do, fail all the way through?
When I tested it on my phone it reported flashing the partitions ok. There was actually extra text displayed while it was doing it that I didn't put into the script, that's how I knew it was working.

im running out of suggestions
if you havent tried to put stock recovery back on yet, how about we try that and see what happens.
if you dont know how to do it through adb, just grab the 1.34 utility from the dev forum, it will push it through fastboot.
something is obviously wrong with twrp, maybe we can fix that first.
I tried flashing even the stock Recovery manually and through the 1.34 utility. Always comes up failed.
Did you try the manual steps that I posted in my links?
i hope that works, but im doubtful.
the utility essentially flashes exactly as you would manually.
he doesnt have a partition issue, im guessing something is wack with the permissions.
if twrp somehow screwed up the permissions to read only, i believe even the partition file cant overwrite it. i could be wrong.
So I think it has something to do with the Permissions of one or more of the partitions. I just noticed it keeps saying Permissions Denied when I try to fastboot or mfastboot.

Also have you tried flashing it manually? (fastboot flash system system.img, etc.)

he defiantly has the right fastboot, its in the utility that has been downloaded thousands of times.
if its write protected some how, its not going to flash no matter how you try it.
what i was wondering is if recovery can fix permissions that deep, not sure he said he tried that.

[Q] Xperia L 4.1.2 Stuck at Boot Animation, need help [SOLVED]

I just installed a font installer app. When I just installed a new font, the app ask for reboot. I rebooted my phone and it starts normally. But after 4 or 5 times I installed the others font and rebooted again and again, at the last time I rebooted, my phone stuck at the boot animation. Even 30 minutes it doesn't past the boot animation. How to fix it?
My phone is Sony Xperia L C2105 running Android 4.1.2 (15.0.A.2.17), rooted, bootloader is still locked.
I don't want to flash my phone because it will erase my data. I have some important contact and messages that I didn't have the backup yet.
I need help, it's really important for me.
Sorry for my bad English.
I will appreciate your suggestions.

But, I have found a solution for this problem.
The solution is to flash the device without wiping user data and cache (don't tick anything under the Wipe option). I just tried it and it was successful.
Now, my phone is back and I don't lose any app and my data.
But, once again, thank you

[TUT] Root Xperia M2 & M2 Aqua in KitKat 4.4.4 (Locked and Unlocked Bootloaders)

Hello there!
Many of you requested a video on how to root the Xperia M2 (and M2 Aqua), with a step by step procedure, so here it is!
LINK: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=f9x7AY7o2gU
All the tools needed are in the video description, and I will try to answer all your questions both in the Youtube comments or here in this post.
Happy Easter and enjoy root!
(and sorry for my english )
Nice tutorial but Im having a little problem.
Today I was trying to root my M2 Aqua (D2403) with your old tutorial and now I tried with this again.
So, the problem is that when I flash JB kernel the phone turn on normally, not in bootloop then root xperia toolkit doesnt work.
Also tried with only ftf kernel of another thread and turned on in bootloop but flashtool and root xperia tool kit doesnt recognize the phone, maybe drivers?
I had problem installing the drivers on Windows 8.1 but worked in flashmode.
Thanks for tutorial and help.
Good tutorial! I think this will help people who have problems rooting their phone

First, you installed the drivers with driver signature check turned off right? (From advanced reboot in windows..)
I think you might try as I did in the video, I mean, when preparing the phone, connect yours (while still in KK, still haven't flashed the JB kernel) and then open flashtools and check if you have any warning of adb. If so, hit REMEMBER (very important STEP) and then hit OK. This is because while in JB there's no screen so you cannot accept that petition. That's the reason.
After done that, try with THIS kernel. I know some people used it and it worked. Flash it, boot your device, wait for about 5 minutes, connect your phone and open the RootXperiaToolkit. Let's see if it works now

Yes, I installed with signature check off. I used drivers from Flashtools 1.5
Also checked remember adb warning and I guess its weird, when I flashed using full rom the phone turn on and initiliaze normally as if I had not flashed the old kernel.
The kernel I told get bootloop is that you posted now.
I did exactly as on video but when phone is in bootloop the Root Xperia Toolkit doesnt recognize it and Flashtools(opened just to check) say the drivers arent installed.
I will try in another OS, thanks. :good:

Hey guys, I was trying to follow this guide to root my D6643 http://forum.xda-developers.com/z3/general/guide-rootrecovery-how-to-root-install-t3017056 but it entered a bootloop, when it's on that Sony animation thing it just gets stucks (the audio bugs too) and starts all over again. On the first time I tried, I used the firmware provided on that thread (for the D6603), then I tried with the correct firmware for my model (D6643) and it still did not work. Tried flashing many times already and the same thing always happen! What can I do to fix it? I tried saying NO and YES to that FCS script dialog that appears on the flashtool, but it doesn't seem to change anything...

[Recovery] TWRP 3.1.1 for Xperia X Compact

Greetings!
I'd like to present a TWRP recovery for the Xperia X Compact. This release should work on Xperia X single and dual-SIM variant of the device. I am an owner of Xperia X, but some users reported that my recovery works just fine on its smaller brother.

Full SELinux support
Working encryption. You can access /data within recovery
USB-OTG

Put the following code in CMD/Terminal:
Code:
fastboot flash recovery twrp-3.1.1-kugo-*.img

it works perfectly! well can't say I tried all functions yet, but it certainly seems so.
thank you so much. finally a proper lastest version of twrp for XC that supports encryption on nougat.
btw. you have to flash it over fotakernel as described in OP. (hotbooting did not work. blank screen.)
I did try other regular X twrp versions with the same result in the past in hopes of finding something better, so the issue was likely the same since I hotbooted them too for a fast test. I guess that's what you get for being lazy. doh.
thanks again for posting it here.

What do you mean by hot booting? I did this to boot to twrp without installing and have no problem
Code:

Thanks for the twrp, with this I can make full backup before trying to update to 7.1 or 8.0 later :good:
MTP is not working in this version. Everything else is top notch, will test backup/restore a bit later and report back.

Exactly. I know hotbooting is not the best description, but you understood anyway.
Strange, I am not a flashophile so I usually just booted twrp this way after a upgrade with flashtool. When the phone was connected to the pc anyway.
But it only works for me with the androplus version, oshmoun's version won't boot that way either. It's not the first time I have talked odd twrp behaviour though, as another guy could not get the androplus one to work at all. I have no reason to doubt him, as this is pretty casual stuff.
I see you are still on MM, I have been on N since it came out and if I remember correctly I backed up ta just before N came out (exploit and N came out very close to each other), took the ota, and unlocked BL. So I performed all the 'fastboots' (better word? heh) on that and 7.1.1. Perhaps the bootloader changed someway? I have no idea.
Edit: if I learned to read properly the first time, you are NOT on MM (doh) but 7.0. Sorry and even more strange. Does MTP work for you? (see below)

This version uses Sony init, so you can see the Sony screen and led indicator while entering the recovery mode. I'm not planning to change it before creating an official TWRP.

Is this in response to something functional, or just general cosmetics info? Doesn't the sony screen origin from the bootloader? How should a official twrp look while booting it? I get the sony boot and led then the TWRP boot image, isn't that normal when booting fotakernel replaced by TWRP? ie. the bootloader handles it when turning the phone on while holding vol down.
An official version would sure be nice. I more than appreciate what you already done. So just take your time.

Strange, I don't have problem booting twrp without installing for either of twrp.
I'm on 7.0. I tried to update to 7.1, but I don't get signal if I do the ta_poc + tobias drm fix method, and the drm is still marked as broken.
I really hate mtp and avoid it. I don't think I even have mtp working properly on my pc. I can't help you test that one. Sorry.

Why are you running it through both ta_poc and Tobias rootkernel with drm fix?
Either you use ta_poc to mount your ta backup from before the bootloader was unlocked thereby bringing the whole trim area back including drm.
Or you use Tobias rootkernel to fix or 'emulate" drm.
Both tools can disable dm verity, sony ric, etc. there is no reason (other than likely creating trouble) to run the kernel image though both tools?!
If you for example run a boot.img with drm fix through ta_poc it will remove the drm fix first. So I imagine things could go wrong of you apply drm fix again (if that is what you're doing) after using ta_poc.

There was an info in one of threads, that you should get the stock kernel first through TA_POC and then through kernel repack tool. If you did not, it would work, but occassionally reboots. I am now on 7.1.1 build 206 with Genesis Kernel 1.05 (no_DRM patch version) and it works ok.
As for TWRP, thanks for this! It works ok. Can not fastboot it, must be flashed in recovery parition, but no deal for me. Only thing that I wonder, there are options to backup system, data etc, but not Internal SD (/data/data). Why?
Hi I have a question, I have N 7.1.1, and i want to root it, so i need the twrp, if I flash this twrp, its okay? Ty!
