Testing new application in release - General Questions and Answers

Hello Everyone,
I just released my second application to the Google playstore and I am not sure of where to go with it now. It's a countdown timers application, which allows the user to run multiple timers simultaneously.
I was thinking about posting it to the Apps section of XDA, but I know the finish of the app is not great. I did not test it as thoroughly (only on 23) and am not the best at designing the graphics aspects of it. I also rushed it a bit to get it out before school starts again.
Does anyone know what's the best thing I can do next? I am assuming I should try testing it a bit more and probably spend more time of the graphics as those are some of the things I skipped on.

I can test app rot you

Countdown timer app is good.
I rated it 4.
And an advice
App is perfectly working
And i feel that if the app is wong for lollipop api then the theme or graphics of the app should be a little more like lollipop or marshmellow type.
Then the app will become 5 star rated for me.

Development: Customizable S7/Edge 'Always On' display

Hi all
I just bought an S7 edge after trading in my iPhone 6S. Overall, its been a great experience. However, the 'Always On' feature seems little more than a glorified clock.
I was surprised to see there wasn't already an app or tweak to customize the 'Always On' screen. Ah well, maybe I should make one instead of complaining (I'm a computer science student, not an Android expert by a long shot but have done my fair share)? So off to find a way...
Technical Overview: Going into the settings, there's an option for setting a picture with a black background to stay 'Always On' instead of the usual clock/call&message counter thingy. This looks very promising. Might even be a little too easy. How about an app that runs in the background and replaces the image with a custom one. So say a whatsapp message arrives, the app draws the message on the custom image and viola!
Okay so maybe it wont be THAT easy, since I suspect the phone just reads the image once on locking and doesn't continually update it. That would make sense after all. Still maybe a refresh can be forced, will have to look into this.
Feedback? This is after all FOSS development, so I'm loath to do start anything without community feedback. Do you guys think this will be useful? Any other comments , suggestions etc. etc.?
Also first post on XDA; long time lurker though.

It'd be AWESOME if you can do this. Keenly looking forward!
need root for that?
Exactly what i was looking for!
Inviato dal mio SM-G935F utilizzando Tapatalk
I'm definitely optimistic about this. Going to give it a first attempt when I find some time later this week.
Also, root will probably be needed if the wallpapers are on system files or if a reload has to be forced to view new notifications. Maybe a less functional mode can later be added which doesn't require root.

I like the always on display idea. But turn it off, because of a lack of features.
So yes, i would definitely love to see some development on this!
I too would love to see something along these lines
I'd be happy enough if I could just choose my own AOD image without making any changes to the clocks!
Would love to see 3rd party app notifications on AOD, more customizable features would be awesome

there is already lots of AOD similar apps with customizable notification display
I've developed an android app for bringing Always On to all android devices with AMOLED screens. It's called "Always On: Ambient Clock" . And it is highly customizable.
I can't post a link now since I have only 5 posts but you can search for it on Play Store.

Cool, just tried it. being able to see the battery % would be great too. and let it move around the screen like it does on the S7, so it wont burn the AMOLED. Plus add more features, will be a great replacement AOD :good:

My question is; is there anything special Samsung is doing to get extra battery life out of their AOD? I understand the big advantage is from the AMOLED, but is it just a case of any image with a lot of black has the same advantage as Samsung's AOD? Or have they triggered something special to get all those pixels off. And what about processes that need to run to display the AOD? I assumed that was part of the reason why Samsung's AOD was so minimal in what it can display - because those were basic things already running on the phone and didn't create any extra load.
Basically if there was something special about Samsung's AOD, it would seem to make sense to expand and develop that and build on their existing battery optimization (whatever that might be - special screen setting or special minimal process in the background etc). Otherwise bring on the third party apps!

i think as long your screen is dark thoes pixels will turn it self off BUT i dont know how much more third party AOD apps will drain battery because it will have to be running in the background even the screen is on? but i think the samsung AOD it triggered on of when it detected that your screen is off so it wont drain battery on background service while screen is on(im just guessing this cuz its part of the system it would be easy to trigger it on and off instead of let it run in the background)
It needs the ability for everything being displayed to move around. Stationary is not the way to go. Worse for displays.
Also needs ambient light detection so it can switch brightness on the go.
Lastly on Samsung devices the wave to wake feature stops working.

Burn-in issue was fixed in the last update. Auto brightness is on my todo list of updating the app. Backgrounds might cause an additional battery drain but I will consider adding simple ones with black backgrounds.

Great job.
And what I was saying is on my s7 edge I can use the wave to wake feature and the pocket detection.
For the s7 edge it waits a few second before turning off the always on display when in your pocket.
You should set a slight delay for the in pocket activation. Or make it less sensitive. There must be a way to make it happen.

Fitbit Blaze

Hi everyone,
I am surprised that there is nothing at xda-developpers about Fitbitbit Blaze. It is quite popular.
Can anybody do modifications to it? Like watch faces or other functions?
Regards,
Alexander
For notifications, I know that there are several that exist that work. I couldn't find the one I use normally in the market, but https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.abhijitvalluri.android.fitnotifications also works.
---------- Post added at 01:51 PM ---------- Previous post was at 01:42 PM ----------
You might look at getting a Bluetooth 4.0 sniffer from the Google Play store (or similar source) and take a look at http://eric-blue.com/projects/fitbit/. The website seems to have several tools that might be of some use. I don't know if they will still work after the firmware updates (no known changes, btw).
it would be rather good if you developers could hack the blaze and give us some clock face custom backgrounds reply to notifications

[APP][4..x+][ViPER4Android] [UPDATE=21/11/2017] Viper Profiler

Hey guys.
I used to mod the ViPER4Android apk to include a widget that allows for quick changing/selection of the currently applied profile. Seeing as ViPER4Android went to a Chinese company, they are no longer sharing their source code with us. With that said, I went on and made my own app that allows for the widget to still work using root. It also will applied selected profiles with certain Bluetooth devices. IE, I have my Bluetooth in my car set to my "Car" V4A profile. So when my car connects, it automatically applies my car's profile. Same for my Fugoo Bluetooth speaker.
Everything is hard coded so if you don't use the defaults from V4A it prolly won't work.
Let me know of any other issues though.

Just one thing: the widget background is transparent and the profiles are written in black.
My wallpaper is kinda dark so i can't read what is inside the widget.
Can you add a setting to choose background color, please?

New Control Center 9.0 apk package(from Fantouch 9.0)

Well guys from Vivo forum someone has uploaded new control Center panel from Fantouch 9.0 UI.
http://bbs.vivo.com.cn/thread-4345771-1-1.html
It said that it works fine with 6.13.13 Pie software version of Vivo Nex S.(After applying installations restart your phone)
I've tried it on my Dual Display device with Pie and doesn't working properly as gesture navigation is not working any more and after few minutes of installation, also control center swipe gesture from the bottom also after few minutes doesn't work.
But you can try by yourself with Nex S as I'm still with 8.1.
It's easy to uninstall If doesn't work on you by going setting all app-system app and find Control Center and press uninstall updates, restart your phone and everything back to normal as before.

dirty flash, performance of the new pie version is great. i´m not a heavy user but i can tell you battery life is fu.... awsome, i get with the phone 3 days standby by near 9 hours sot in my use routine.
if i use the phone heavier, I am convinced that I can reach the 10 hours.
system settings, no bluetooth only one sim card and wifi + mobile network in combination, no battery saver activ, apps i use are, browser, google clock, Nova Launcher, buttons remapper, phone, Fluid gesture navigation, whatsapp, twitter, instagram, google assistant, banking app, youtube vanced, amazon, ebay etc.
yeah i´m satisfied, however pie is yet not perfect like oreo, there are minor bugs but they are little not big deal, and the only thing is we can´t theme pie with andromeda and vivo don´t provide deep black theme thats ridiculous, 3rd party support too we can´t use aod, clone app etc.
I love my Chinese Nex S this thing looks beautiful has enough power, and great display and a big battery. i pray that it last a long time i wanne keep it as long as i can. don´t need other phone. it has almost all what i need (LED notification is missing ) and it is futuristic. that´s my opinion.
if you all here don´t like what i write, keep it for yourselfs i don´t give a f......
I totally agree. Pie also brought the possibility of using the screen in half with all the apps and not just a few like with Oreo. The battery lasts for me 7 hours, only 4g, bluetooth with clock connected, Blokada as a VPN block, whatsapp and telegram always synchronized. The only difference is the AOD that has not implemented any external app. I hope Paatha13 insists with Vivo to have this option implemented.
---------- Post added at 04:23 PM ---------- Previous post was at 04:20 PM ----------
I forgot. I went from 1.23.5 to the first beta of Pie. Then to 6.13.4, finally to 6.13.13 without ever formatting (I have the phone since November). I'm sure that formatting the battery could last longer.
---------- Post added at 04:25 PM ---------- Previous post was at 04:23 PM ----------
One problem I find is that when I pick up the phone, the screen does not turn on instantaneously for unlocking but after about 1 second. Does it happen to you too?
Thanks for the details feedback and impression with Pie upgrade guys.
Good to hear almost everything is very satisfactory.
As for AOD and third-party app notification our only hope is Fantouch 9.0.
But again Pie brought much more customization option with AOD and that's welcome movement from Vivo.

Official Android P Rom discussion

Hello all,
So I believe most of us should have the Android P update by now. I'm intrigued as to what you all think.
Sadly, the update has downgraded the experience of a great phone. Here are the issues which popped up for me after the update:
- Very slow fingerprint recognition and unlock
- Android crashes when you turn off wifi
- A noticeable drop in performance speed all round (animations are slow or clunky, apps are slow to open or to load)
- No digital wellbeing app which is a major part of Android P
- Unable to install Pixel Launcher 9
We spend quite a large amount of our time using our phones and ever since the update, the whole experience has taken a hit and now, and it's very noticeable. I'm desperate to get off this phone now, which is sad because, before the update, The phone ran beautifully without any dramas.
What do you guys think?
Have you done factory reset? I don't have any of the problems you say.
Digital Wellbeing is installed. Do the search in settings and then you can add it to the rest of the applications (there is a switch to do it).
The only problem I find is that the adaptive battery is not in place. I have to look for it in the settings. In the videos I saw of the taiwan rom it seemed that it was in settings -> battery, but in the European one it didn't. Not a big deal, but there it is.
I can't tell you anything about the pixel launcher because I use default HTC Sense.
No I haven't. I don't have the time to reset and and restore everything. An update should just work and not require a factory reset.
I managed to get Digital Wellbeing working but it needed some effort. The version from the Play Store wouldn't let me download it because, apparently, it is incompatible with the phone. Weird.
Anyway, so I had to download the APK, install, download Activity Launcher, install, then use Activity Launcher to show the Digital Wellbeing app in the app list and also allow it usage permissions. Then I was able to use the app.
Another issue which popped up after the update I forgot to mention above was that the navigation bar at the bottom has reduced in size, which is good, but unfortunately it still behaves as if it was the same size as before, so when you're typing and you press the space bar, it sometimes thinks you've pressed the home button and takes you home. VERY VERY FRUSTRATING.
One other thing which I've realised is that you're unable to use the new Android P navigation bar because HTC have their own version of the navigation bar (which is dated now) and this cannot be overridden. Another annoyance.

Sounds like you should just sell your u11+ and go buy an iphone.
Ha! Extremely sound logic. I bring up issues a recent update has introduced and your suggestion is I sell my phone and move to a far inferior platform. You really are a shining beacon of brilliant intelligence. Bravo to you, good sir.
Hi guys,
Anyone experience WiFi connection with hidden SSID? My newly update U11+ unable to connect to hidden SSID, but it is okay with broadcast SSID.
Please help. Thanks.
update:
Sorry guys, my stupidity didn't check the setting properly at the bottom of the there is setting the mentioned if it is hidden. checked the box , viola it is working now. Thanks.
although I was a little annoyed with some of the changes at the start, such as clock now on left in status bar (the rest I forget tbh), overall I love it.
same speed as always across the board; apps, animations etc. with plenty of apps/files loaded.
1 thing that's really stood out for me has been the (learning) adaptive brightness. it's just awesome!
and so are the colours. screen looks so much better since pie, very impressed.

I think it is a good idea to factory reset when there is a big version change. For small versions it is enough to clear the cache.
Regarding digital well-being, I have been able to update it directly from the play store.
I see the navigation bar well. It doesn't frustrate me. I think it works correctly. And Android P gesture navigation would like to have it as an option but I'm sure I would change it back to the traditional method, so I don't worry too much.

I was just poking fun at how unhappy you seem to be with things not working.
Post-update issues are pretty common, and though annoying, nothing to get too worked up about.
Just wipe and move on, it's not so bad.
This is a forum of tinkerers, after all.
Totally happy, sorry.Plus i've been able to use Quick step module(oneplus recents).I love the UI and i haven't noticed any issues whatsoever.Sound mods also working as they should.I like it better now
Haven't met all the issues you're describing! My U11+ is working fine with Pie, just as it was with Oreo!
Any one updated to Android Pie yet? Any difference in battery life and device performance?
