TWRP 2.8.6.0 can't decrypt phone. How to factory reset ? - ONE Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hey guys,
got a big problem. Got an encrypted and rooted One running Android 6.0.1 (Sultan CM13).
When I want to reboot into recovery I have to enter my pattern to decrypt the phone, but although I enter the right pattern, TWRP says it cant decrypt and mount my phone.
So my problem now is, I can't just do a factory reset, cause TWRP is bugged and via fastboot it always says "no permissions".
Help very appreciated!

Try running fastboot with root privileges if your on linux, which it sounds like.

No Data Decryption before Recovery

Lately I have been having a problem where I would not get a prompt to type password to decrypt storage before entering TWRP. Initially when I encrypted the device booting into recovery functioned properly, but it doesn't now. I'm currently running XeononHD 8-6-13 and using 2.6.1 TWRP as a recovery. I have tried flashing different recoveries which did change anything. Has anyone else experienced this issue?

Lost root and TWRP recovery doesn't recognize my encryption PIN

While attempting to flash the latest unofficial MIUI build yesterday, I got stuck at the animation logo, so I gave up. Instead, I flashed the Android L developer build, which did boot up completely for me. However, when I attempted to boot back into recovery, I got prompted to enter my encryption passcode, which I did. However, TWRP keeps telling me that decryption failed and to try again. The issue isn't an incorrect passcode, so I'm at a loss to try to figure out what's going on. Also, because TWRP won't decrypt my storage, I can't flash anything (despite the fact that I'm able to access SD card files from a file manager app when the phone is on). Any way I can get TWRP to decrypt my storage without having to wipe everything completely? Has anyone else experienced this?

Recovery is flashed in fastboot/bootloader...
Unless you used Towelroot, then you'll have to unlock the bootloader, which will wipe.
Really what I need is to figure out why TWRP isn't recognizing my encryption PIN. My storage is encrypted, but whenever I input my encryption PIN, I get an error message. How do I get it TWROP to recognize my encryption PIN?
Doesn't flashing L mess with your sdcard anyway?

Encryption always causes issues. I suggested to reflash TWRP with fastboot to rule out TWRP itself being the issue.
This is why I never encrypt. I just don't trust it.

hahaha, i nearly went ballistic on that thing yesterday ... i have no idea how i managed to get rid of it .. first i updated to 2.7.1.1. Twrp... Then i reflashed the Rom ...
Then i did a factory reset .. then i whiped data .. and reflashed rom .. anyways encryption is gone .. but i cant copy stuff from my pc to the handset well ... not that i care .. but kind of inconvenient
Was this resolved?
I am facing the same issue with the AOSP builds of L. I wanted to take new Nandroid backups and realized that TWRP cannot decrypt the partition.

D6633 TWRP cannot decrypt/mount encrypted volume

hello there,
Z3 D6633 here running 5.0.2 (HK) with TWRP rooted with superSU. Trying to upgrade to the newly released 5.1.1.
The phone had been be Encrypted some months ago and everything is fine. However, when I booted into TWRP to try to patch in 5.1.1, TWRP popped up with a password prompt. I entered the decrypt password (and other passwords I can think of) but TWRP replied with:
Unable to mount storage, and
Failed to decrypt data.
Google tells me there had been some issues with TWRP 2.8.4.1 to 2.8.6.0 unable to decrypt encrypted volumes so I went and grabbed the latest XZdualrecovery 2.8.21 and ran that in. All seemed fine and TWRP was updated to 2.8.7.0. Unfortunately, upon booting into recovery, TWRP still count not decrypt the volumes no matter what passwords I enter.
Does anyone have any ideas to get around this, short of a factory reset..? The SD card is also encrypted so I am trying to avoid factory reset if possible..
Thanks in advance
No. I find it ridiculous that it is simple and easy to encrypt, but to decrypt one needs a full reset losing all data? Android is fing lame. Can't wait to buy a tablet so I CAN encrypt both phone and tablet. At least with a win7 tablet decrypting will never be an issue. Android is more of a toy that destroys eyesight imo.

[HELP] To start Android enter password

I had the stock rom rooted but i decided to check cyanogenmod13 for honor 8
I downloaded cyanogen and i procedeed to flash it with twrp.. all well.. it installed and it was booting
I was greeted with "To start android enter password" I had no lockscreen like pin or password beforehand
I tried to do a factory reset but that did not fix it.
I tried to use format data option in twrp but that did not work either.
This only happens in cyanogenmod because if i install another rom it will prompt me to setup the device like normally.
What can I do about this and how could I fix it?... any help would be appreciated.
Easy fix.

Hello. I had the exact issue with Honor 8 (FRD-L09) and CM13.
Easy fix is to flash this TWRP recovery, which is intended for CM for Honor 8, then Wipe Data and re-flash the ROM again.

Just flash it as an image in TWRP, no need to do it via adb..
Hope this helps

TRWP is still coming back with password prompt

Hi, I have a problem with TWRP.
I encontered on a bug in TWRP, which ask for a password, despite there is no any screen lock chosen. I can't mount partitions in recovery because password doesn't match. "default_password" doesn't work.
Now I erased all partition except "boot" under fastboot, installed new TWRP to recovery, but it still ask for a password.
I tried "fastboot format recovery", but I couldn't:
Code:
Formatting is not supported for file system with type ''.
I use OnePlus One, last TWRP and last LineageOS.
Can you help me? Thanks
Maybe it will help someone.
I flashed recovery with TWRP 3.2.3-K1 and it works fine. TWRPs 3.2.3.0 and earlier didn't handle Android Pie's encryption.
