While attempting to flash the latest unofficial MIUI build yesterday, I got stuck at the animation logo, so I gave up. Instead, I flashed the Android L developer build, which did boot up completely for me. However, when I attempted to boot back into recovery, I got prompted to enter my encryption passcode, which I did. However, TWRP keeps telling me that decryption failed and to try again. The issue isn't an incorrect passcode, so I'm at a loss to try to figure out what's going on. Also, because TWRP won't decrypt my storage, I can't flash anything (despite the fact that I'm able to access SD card files from a file manager app when the phone is on). Any way I can get TWRP to decrypt my storage without having to wipe everything completely? Has anyone else experienced this?

Recovery is flashed in fastboot/bootloader...
Unless you used Towelroot, then you'll have to unlock the bootloader, which will wipe.
Really what I need is to figure out why TWRP isn't recognizing my encryption PIN. My storage is encrypted, but whenever I input my encryption PIN, I get an error message. How do I get it TWROP to recognize my encryption PIN?
Doesn't flashing L mess with your sdcard anyway?

Encryption always causes issues. I suggested to reflash TWRP with fastboot to rule out TWRP itself being the issue.
This is why I never encrypt. I just don't trust it.

hahaha, i nearly went ballistic on that thing yesterday ... i have no idea how i managed to get rid of it .. first i updated to 2.7.1.1. Twrp... Then i reflashed the Rom ...
Then i did a factory reset .. then i whiped data .. and reflashed rom .. anyways encryption is gone .. but i cant copy stuff from my pc to the handset well ... not that i care .. but kind of inconvenient
Was this resolved?
I am facing the same issue with the AOSP builds of L. I wanted to take new Nandroid backups and realized that TWRP cannot decrypt the partition.

So I had been attempting to encrypt my phone for 2 days and finally today I did something and it started encryption. I had rooted the phone and had TWRP on it.
The encryption finished and it rebooted and now its stuck with the screen on the 1 logo. i can turn it off and go to the bootloader and TWRP but no matter what i do it won't let me flash anything. in TWRP I tried formatting the drive but that didn't do anything either, it keeps giving the error "Unable to mount drive"
I was trying to find an Odin type package for it but no go yet. Even LG had a flashing tool. Any ideas?
You can download the fastboot images from the official cyanogen site:

Yes, i did have the fastboot images but it wasn't letting me flash them.
Ok, so I think I wiped out the OS while wiping the phone earlier and that's why it wasn't going anywhere after the 1 logo.
What I now did was pushed down the Pacman ROM zip via TWRP to the local drive and flashed it and its booting now. I should be able to get the rest going.
heres how i handled that exact situation and got encryption working correctly on 11S

WIFI issue after encrption
Im having issues after encrypting.
I have twrp and rooted my phone. today i encrypted my device. No issues. After password first time device dint do anything i thought its hanged or something.
powered off and started again . second time phone started without issues after decryption password. But to my surprise phone for factory reset.
But my major issue now is. Im not able to turn on wifi. Its is disabled. Can tell me what to do.
Shall i reset in TWRP ?
Does on custom ROM works encryption? I tried a couple ROMS, but encryption never works. Always starts encryption and after a a couple seconds phone reboots, do not encrypted. I tried encrypt after fresh install, but always unsuccessful. I googled, some peoples with other devices encrypt their devices. If I remember good, my nexus4 on paranoid was encrypted. Maybe this problem only on s6?

Actually just saw this:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-s6/general/device-encryption-root-t3400259
@sofir786, thanks. I checked my logs, the phone always reboots, because he can't unmount files. I found information how temporary disable root, but no succes.
yes encryption works on any rom you just need to unroot ,encrypt ,and root .
1. unroot your phone from su app ( or try to perform a factory reset and wipe Dalvik cache in TWRP )
2. encrypt your phone
3. your phone is now encrypted try flash "CF-autoroot"via odin .
ok, encryption worked, but after encryption boot loop (stuck on samsung logo) Why?
Second time I tried fast encryption, but same end, won't boot, stuck on samsung logo.
booted to TWRP, but can't decrypt or enter to any partition.
so, guys, does somebody has encrypted s6 with custom rom? Always after encryption I get bootloop, but after unrooting device boots without problem. And, after encryption TWRP do not show encrypted partition, do not ask for key or etc.

Twrp won't recognise the partition from what I've read that's why you don't see it, have a little Google it seems it's a common issue with twrp and encrypted partitions

I googled, but no 100% true information. But if I understand good, the problem is with samsung encryption and TWRP.
So, if encryption + TWRP do not work, so custom rom with encryption bad choice, because you can't update your rom, make backup or flash new after encryption. Yes, is one possibility, to decrypt, but for this need a lot of time (if I remember good, 24+ hours).
So I had my Honor 8 (FRD L04) unlocked, rooted and running stock just fine. Then I decided to flash the unofficial Lineage rom. After doing so I got a prompt to enter a password to decrypt, while booting into Lineage and even into TWRP, I never set the password so I wasn't sure what to do. I tried a few things then eventually reflashed TWRP and got rid of the password problem then tried to restore my back up but it didn't work. Now I'm stuck. I can access fastboot, TWRP and eRecovery. eRecovery always fails to get package info. And whenever I try to do anything in TWRP it says it failed to mount cust, vendor and product. I've tried a lot of different solutions I've seen on here the dload method always goes to 5% then fails. I've flashed stock boot, recovery and system.img but didn't change anything. And I can't seem to get it to boot to stock recovery to format/wipe that way.
If there's anything anyone knows that I can do it'd be appreciated.
Got my issue solved thanks to the thread above. Not sure how to mark this as solved or closed.

Just found how to do it on the app. Name offically changed. Thanks again for the help.
Hi all,
I had everything unlocked and running fine, TWRP was working and I was running 9.0 (OTA 25), and when booting to TWRP it would prompt me for my password and booting to either A or B I was able to see the contents of my Internal Storage from TWRP. I updated via TWRP to the 9.0.1 OTA 26 (Full, flashable zip). The update completed and booted fine. Fastbooted to TWRP, flashed blu_spark.
Now when I boot into the TWRP I flashed, it no longer asks for an encryption key. The A partition can see the SDCard without problems, but booting to the B slot sees gibberish. A slot boots fine, B slot is obviously dead.
What did I mess up here? Should I just be doing the incrementals? Guides seem to indicate I should do a full flash (not a Fastboot flash however). My XDA searching is not finding anything, but I may be looking for the wrong thing.

I think I found it. Should have taken the lockscreen password off first before updating right? I have seen other people mention that.
That would seems strange to me since it doesnt 'decrypt' storage when you do that does it?

Yes this is what I do now every time (except when I forget). It's a known bug in TWRP afaik.
the black twrp should be able to decrypt from the fastboot img now, it might save you a format!

Hi guys,
I have a pretty weird problem.
I was running LineageOS 17.1, tried to go on 18.
Don't know what I screwed up but when I try to reboot to recovery as I do usually to flash, twrp boots but acts as if my files were encrypted.
I took care to remove pin lock before upgrade.
Weird thing is that when I boot twrp from fastboot, I can see my files.
My twrp is latest official 3.4.0-3
My system now can't boot (I think that it sees the data as encrypted also)
Would anyone know what's happening here ?
Try your lockscreen password.

I'm not asked for a password, and I removed lockscreen before upgrade
Just bite the bullet and full wipe back to stock and try again.

Have you solved it?
If you switch over to the other slot in twrp, is it different? My files appear encrypted on slot b (no password asked like with you) on slot a twrp asks for a password and all is fine and I can boot into my phone normally
