So my friend just rooted his phone and decided to uninstall LG IMS (without knowing what it was). He was using Titanium Backup. He had made a backup for it and all. Now the phone is having issues and even though he tried restoring the app, it won't budge. Any trick to this? He has a locked bootloader and no recovery with TWRP or CWM installed (of which I told him to do before he deleted anything). Any way this can be fixed? If he does a factory reset from the settings menu, will it restore everything (including the IMS file) and be fine, or since it has been rooted, will that not do?
Or I guess is there any way to install a custom rom onto it so that that issue will be resolved since possibly the IMS will not be needed?
Is it possible to install autorec and have it restore to stock ROM?

Thanks. I found it and I'll show it to him. Hopefully we can get it to work.
Only question I have for you is -- do we need to have an unlocked bootloader?

Thanks. At least now I won't have to go through the headache of unlocking his bootloader.
We'll follow your guide and hopefully get it back and working.

Hey guys,
This is my very first post, just to let you all know, so please have some patience! Thanks!
Anyway, so I have a Nexus S 3G (Canada) and I have rooted it, unrooted it, installed roms and everything. I works...for the most part. It's giving me all sorts of different little errors and what not. So I was wondering, how can I COMPLETLY start ALL OVER, as in, factory new, like when you buy a new phone (without the carrier stuff). I wanted to start fresh, fresh out-of-the-oven kind of start, do you understand what I mean? FACTORY FRESH. Thank you all so much in advance!
well download your phone's stock rom and of course unroot it.Regarding the stock bloatware you can modify the custom rom by going in system/app and deleting the apps you dont want to be installed

Thanks for the reply, I've already done that, and I'm still getting errors and other weird things, like not going out of airplane mode, failing to download the OTA 2.3.6 Update (I'm on stock 2.3.1 unrooted, I think), and I don't know if this is normal, but ClockworkMod Recovery is still there. Am I still rooted or something? Plus, when I try to flash a restore, from let's say Gingerbread 2.3.6 Stock, it says MD5 mismatch! How about if it's an ICS AOSP Build, it gives me the normal white Google logo like normal, but then just stays stuck there.
Is the anyway to erase EVERYTHING and start over like NOTHING was ever done to the device? Like when they are first distributing the the device and no one has ever touched it? Is there anyway to do just that?
There is a difference between being "rooted" and using a rooted ROM. You could be using a non-rooted ROM, and your phone can still be "rooted". The first step in rooting a phone is changing SECURITY-ON to SECURITY-OFF. If you REALLY want to go back to when you first got the device, you will need to find a way to turn SECURITY from OFF to ON. When it is off, you are able to access the bootloader, in turn allowing you to install a recovery to install a ROM with rooted permissions. I think the best way to go back to stock would be for you to first download the latest OTA update for your device, do a FULL WIPE of everything on your phone thru recovery (data, system, cache, dalvik cache). Then installing the latest OTA. I do not think however, that this is how you turn your device S-ON.
I hope I've been of some help.

Thanks for your excellent reply, but I have also already done that, EXACTLY that, multiple times too. Dalvik, battery stats, factory reset/delete all user data, wipe cache partition and fix permissions. What else is there left to do?
Thank you all so very much!!!!

Flash the stock tar.md5 from here: http://samsung-updates.com/device/?id=scH-i535
Whatever you flashed put a custom kernel on there, and that's why you get that message.

I have tried to odin stock and then wipe. still showing no data connection, and same thing when I put my wifes sim in. IM thinkiing it has something to do with the dual boot i had set up before. is there a way to repartion the internal sd card or emmc?
This seems to be happening to a lot of people flashing AOSP ROMs....this is why they warn you they are not responsible for what happens to your phone...especially with Betas.
There are many threads on this and several on how to get a workaround until someone figures out how to fix this.
Try doing a search on losing IMEI or roaming after flashing CM10...it is happening a lot...that is why I am just using rooted stock with VZW apps and TW frozen.
this problem I was having with no data or radio in CM10.
I used ODIN to go back to stock rooted (root 66).
When I did that I was boot looping in the puking rainbows 4GLTE boot animation.
I eventually figured out how to fix that by booting into recovery (press volume up, home button, and power button at the same time till phone boots). I then did a wipe data/factory reset.
My phone then booted fine into stock root.
I then proceeded to punch in *2767*3855# into my dialer immediately when I got stock root working. That did some sort of a factory reset / format. It all happened so quick I could barely read what it told me. The phone rebooted after a while.
I then downloaded EZ-Recovery for VZW Galaxy S3 app from the Play store.
I installed the custom recovery from Dhacker's CM10 post over on the droidhive forums using EZ recovery.
I also downloaded the CM10 file to flash and the Jelly Bean Google Apps file.
Rebooted into recovery, Wiped data/cache/dalvik.
Installed the CM10 file.
Installed the Jelly Bean apps.
Reboot.
Profit.
I now have a largely functional CM10 (as far as I can tell there are some camera issues). Data 3G/4G is working, so are calls and text and everything is dandy.
Did the *27 bla bla thing posted above and back to normal. Thanks everyone

I have a droid maxx running stock rooted 4.4, and need to factory reset it or something similar, to totally reset everything. Does anyone know of a way to do this while keeping root? Thanks!
I've factory reset my rooted 4.4 Mini using Settings->Backup & reset. Reinstalled SuperSu after, still rooted.

Thank you so so much!!! You just saved me countless hours of extreme frustration and possibly even buying a new phone..
Hope it fixes your issue. Not as good as reflashing the system, but that will definitely make you lose root.

Sorry to say if it is an issue with the system factory reset does nothing except delete user data like apps etc. If its a system app it may fix the problem other than that it wont do jack to fix the problem. Thats why root persists only reason to FDR is if an app is acting up and you can't fix it. That is why we need the fxz to fix a system issue.

If you encrypted your device they only solution to decrypt is to factory reset.

You need to search around here. This is a documented issue with aosp ROMs. Someone put out a command line fix (i think it's in the noon-carrier-specific m8 forum) or you can use the ruu files found in this forum.

I have had this twice now, i fixed it by formatting data in twrp then factory resetting and restoring a backup from my sd. I lost all my internal storage.
factory reset dont work either sorry were both S.O.L. unless u have insurance then just "loose ur phone"
I'm back guys!!!!! I ruu'ed in fastboot. Weird thing was when my phone booted back up it still had supersu!!!!!! That made me happy. I then flashed twrp through flashify and restored a back up I made before this whole fiasco. Thanks again for everything!!!!
So you returned your phone to Verizon over this? If it turns on you can fix it.

So you sent in a phone that you broke and that can be fixed but are too lazy to research? And this is why companies lock down bootloaders. If you cant do basic searching, then dont root your phone.
Hello,
So I decided to try out CM 12.1 on my S968C phone. I then reverted back to the original firmware through a TWRP recovery backup. The problem is that I now do not have any service. In the About Phone settings the IMEI number is correct, but both the phone number and network type are unknown.
Does anyone have any idea what could have caused this?
The only thing that I can think of is that CM might have flashed a custom modem firmware that was not restored.by the backup (this is just a wild guess).
Is there any way that this can be fixed?
Thanks!

As long as you have that TWRP backup on the external SD card, you will need to do a factory reset. Go to Settings... Backup & Reset... then do a Factory data reset. This has worked for me and a few others in the past. It will wipe your phone to where you will need to set it up again. You should now have service, so reboot into TWRP and restore your backup. That way you won't have to go thru installing all your apps again - they will be in your backup.
Ok, thanks!
I'll try this.
