How To: Disable System Updates and OTAs - LG V10 General

This is a guide to disable/block the System Update and OTA firmware updates that are automatically pushed to your device by your Carrier.
Guide is meant for those that have NON-Rooted phones. If you have a T-mobile variant, you can do all this through other methods.
If you do have Root, there are many apps you can use to "freeze/disable" the OTA apps directly from the phone. (TiBu=Titanium Backup, ROM Toolbox, and many many more in the Play Store)
I think a few people were interested in knowing how this works. Yes, there are other guides out there that would tell you how to do this exact same thing in a general sense or for another device.
This is meant to be short, sweet, and simple. To the point:
DOWNLOADS
(installing everything listed below to their default locations will suffice)You need to download and install the USB drivers for your V10. This is a link to the drivers for Windows: http://oceanhost.eu/x1b0tjlhzw1z/LGUnitedMobileDriver_S51MAN313AP22_ML_WHQL_Ver_3.13.2.exe.htm
If you have a VERIZON V10, use this USB driver instead: http://oceanhost.eu/vqrpi5norzp0/LG_VZW_United_WHQL_v2.20.0.exe.htm
-------------If neither of those driver packages work for you, try this one out: http://tool.xcdn.gdms.lge.com/dn/downloader.dev?fileKey=UW00120120425
Now, make sure you have ADB installed on your computer. Instead of downloading a huge package, you can just download this small installer instead: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2588979
Just read though that first post if you are setting up ADB for the 1st time. Download the latest version posted there and install it.
And now you need to download the Debloater program. Here is the link to gatesjunior tool that will allow you to perform magic on your Un_Rooted V10: http://forum.xda-developers.com/and...er-remove-carrier-bloat-t2998294#post58069093
That's a long post to read, I know. Just scroll to the bottom of that 1st post and look for the links under "Full Download"
Pick one of the two links, download it, install it. Now you have the Debloater Tool setup and ready to use.
After you have installed everything you need, move on to Step 1)
1) You need to enable ADB on your device before you can use this method. (If you have ADB enabled already, just move on to Step 2)
- To do that, you need to go to SETTINGS --> ABOUT PHONE --> SOFTWARE INFO. Tap on "Build Number" about 10 times till it says "You are a developer now".
{
"lightbox_close": "Close",
"lightbox_next": "Next",
"lightbox_previous": "Previous",

}

- Back out of SOFTWARE INFO, then back out of ABOUT PHONE. You are now back in the SETTINGS menu.
- Directly above ABOUT PHONE, you should see DEVELOPER OPTIONS. Click on it and open that menu.
- Click the toggle at the top and turn ON Developer Options.
- In DEVELOPER OPTIONS you will see "USB Debugging" check that box and hit OK on the pop up window. Now ADB is enabled.
View attachment 3603977
2) Time to connect your phone to your PC. If this is the first time, give it a few mins to setup everything and install the drivers.
Notice: When you plug in your device to your PC (after all drivers have been installed), the phone automatically connects as USB INSTALLER. Give it about 20secs and the device will disconnect and then reconnect as "Media Sync (MTP)"
- Connect your phone to your PC. Wait till it disconnects and reconnects as MTP
3) After your phone is connected as MTP, open the Debloater program.
- If this is the first time you have ever used ADB, you will get a pop up on your phone screen that looks like the pic below
- Check the box and then hit OK
4) After your phone has connected, the program will throw a pop up about "Your device does NOT support block mode". Just ignore it and hit OK.
- Now click on the top left botton "Read Device Packages"
- Wait for a min or two for the program to finish reading all the apps installed on your phone.
- You should see a screen like this
View attachment 3603992
5) Now we are going to disable the packages/apps that download OTAs and Updates to your phone.
- 1st one is LGFOTA. Check the [_] filter box next to the "UnBlock All Packages" button. Type "OTA" and it will narrow down to one result. Simply check the box next to LGFOTA.apk and click the "APPLY" button on the upper left.
View attachment 3603993
- Repeat step 4 again --> let it finish --> check the [_] filter box --> type "DMS" --> check the box --> click "APPLY"
View attachment 3603994
- Repeat step 4 again --> let it finish --> check the [_] filter box --> type "DMW" --> check the box --> click "APPLY"
View attachment 3603995
6) Reboot your phone
That's it! All done. No more pesky Update nagging.
To confirm that the app has been disabled, goto your SETTINGS menu --> scroll to the bottom --> see if System Update is listed above ABOUT PHONE.
If it is gone, you are good.
System Update may still show up in SETTINGS --> APPLICATION MANAGER --> (ALL tab) --> SYSTEM UPDATES
You will notice that there is no Date listed on the right side like there is for the apps above and below it. That shows that it is Disabled. So again, you are good.
View attachment 3608549
There are other things (pre-installed carrier bloatware) you could diable with the Debloater program as well. That is beyond the purpose of this tutorial.
Be careful what else you disable with the Debloater program
Disable the wrong app and you might cause system stability issues or even cause your device to not boot. Just a word of caution.
If anyone has another variant of the V10 that has a package name varying from the ones in this tutorial, please comment below so I can add it. I have a Verizon V10, so the package names might vary a bit.
Use an app on the Play Store called "Package Name Viewer" by csing to look up the package names for your System Update apps.

Hope this helped you out. Just passing around what I know. Enjoy your V10's !!!

Thanks for contributing this awesome tutorial brother.

Make sure you downloaded the right version. Here is the exact link to the one I DL'd last night: http://rootjunkysdl.com/getdownload.php?file=Gates/DeBloater/Debloater-setup-v3.90.exe
Uninstall the old one first, then reinstall it. I have a suspicion that you downloaded the Debloater Update instead of the full program. Maybe not, just an itch.
If that doesn't work, try right clicking on the icon and run it as an Administrator.
If that wont do it, try a different PC? Narrow down if you are having driver conflicts with a particular machine.

I tried another PC, same issue. I tried to look at my device via CMD ADB devices, still cant see it. My phone says its connected via ADB Debugging, but is not asking permission to connect that way. No phone prompt.

Do this for me. --------------v v v v v v---------------- Make sure you unplug your phone from the PC first.
Go to SETTINGS --> DEVELOPER OPTIONS --> click on "Revoke USB debugging authorizations" (right below the "USB Debugging" check box)
Now plug it back in. You should get the pop up on your phone screen when ADB makes connection. MAKE SURE TO CHECK THE BOX THIS TIME OR YOU WILL RUN INTO THIS AGAIN

Thanks. Seemed to work perfect for me. Only had to 'Apply' the block to two files as I did the one through the app manager. Thanks!
Edit: i rebooted and after all three of those apps show disabled in 'Debloater' I still have 'System updates' in my application manager under 'All'
its 428kb version 1_15_02_0.
allows the option to force stop, but not disable.
Is this normal?

I addressed this in the OP. If the date is still there, then you did not disable it. Run the Debloater again, re-enable, then disable that app again.
Maybe enable it, go to the app in SETTINGS and "Clear data" before you disable it again. Data amount in the app after clearing it is 220kb for me.

Thank you for posting. I suspected that it was the driver package that was causing issues. I will ad that link in the OP for others.
As a note, there does not seem to be any specific drivers for the V10 on LG's site the last time I looked. Very weird :/

Can this be undone? Right now I want to block updates because I'm waiting for possible root. However root may prove impossible and I might want to be able to download OTA's someday. Can this process be undone (without fully wiping and restoring phone)?

Absolutely  Simply do the reverse of what you did with the Debloater tool.
Checked boxes next to the app name means DISABLED. Just uncheck the box next to the app and hit "Apply".
Undone... magic.

Thanks. I haven't actually checked out the debloater program yet. I just downloaded everything in preparation. However Verizon has now started to push OTA on me so I just wanted to make sure before I used it.

Just ran it...worked like a charm. Thanks.

Tried that. Re-enabled all 3. then went in to system apps.
Clear data was greyed out, I did clear the cache on the 420kb 'System Updates" App.
Then, rebooted and went through the process to disable all 3 apps (OTA, DMS, DMW) -> reboot
both 'System Updates" apps were still showing up. I dissabled the 0.00kb app but the other one is now showing 432kb and only allows 'Force Close'
Anyone else on Verizon having the same problem?
Thanks again.

When you say they show up, are the dates next to the right of the App name in ALL tab of APP SETTINGS? Check the OP. I added a screenshot of what I am trying to explain.
If the apps are not disabling, that is very strange. First I have heard of I think.
Hate to say this, but... if the Apps wont disable, you might have to do a Factory Reset and try to disable them ASAP. This is not the best solution obviously.

Crap. I owe you an apology. There is no date next to the 'System Updates' app. so it has been disabled. sorry for that. Thanks again for the great tutorial.

Thanks for the great tutorial! Had to play around with drivers, revoking debugging, etc... But between this OP and those in the links you had, all my questions were answered and I've gotten rid of the annoying system update nagging.

So with some fooling with the drivers I was able to disable the OTA updates. Awesome! Thank you. Anyone had any luck with disabling any other Verizon bloat?

[Q] ICS Official: No Device Administrator Settings

Hi,
Is this a known issue on Android 4.03 Official?
I can't uninstall an app, because I can't disable its administrator privileges. These settings are gone after applying the FOTA!
Not noticed it but I did a factory reset after getting the update

Nope, i can just remove apps and everything. Didn't do a factory reset after OTA update.

But do you see the "Device Administrator" settings?
You mind trying to install this app (SwitchPro Widget) and then uninstall it?

i see the device administrator settings. Can't install the app because it's a paid app and i don't own a creditcard
Factory reset was the solution indeed!
Where's My Droid is the problem
I noticed after installing Where's My Droid and granting it Device Administration privileges, the option itself disappeared from the Security menu of my phone, along with Unknown Sources option. WTF - I reset my phone over a dozen times (literally) before I realized what caused it to keep disappearing. There's no telling how many apps out there that might cause these options to disappear after being added as a Device Administrator. So please, test my conclusion...reset your phone and if the options reappear, try installing the app that caused the options to disappear (most likely a security app or phone locator app) then grant it Device Admin again and see what happens. If I'm right, please hit the thank you button. Peace!!
I don't see this menu even I did factory reset+wipe data in stock recovery ... I've tried to check it on clean phone without any application installed and it is not there - just setting for "Unknown sources" but not Device administrators ..

Me either until you install an app like Where's My Droid, then go to the Security section of WMD> Remote Wipe or Remote Lock. DO NOT 'SET DEVICE ADMIN' but this should put the option in the Settings>Security menu of the phone. but after uninstalling WMD it goes away. maybe you can make use of it for programs that need device admin privleges while WMD is installed, hopefully it dosen't disappear if you authorize a different app, then hopefully uninstalling WMD wont remove the option if a different app already has admin rights. Are you pickin up what I'm layin down? I know it sounds crazy, thumbs down ICS

You have found the root cause of this "problem".. It is not a bug it is feature
That did it for me, too!
Just to confirm, I found a small app on the Play Store that wanted Device Admin rights (an app called "Lock Screen" which just provides a button to lock the device), went in to it's settings, enabled Device Admin rights and then the 3rd Party Apps and Device Administrator settings appeared in the Security Settings. Thank you!

[Q] SuperSU Cannot change configuration

Hi, first post
I flashed my TMOBILE US [SGH-T999] SIII with root66 and all went well. verified with rootkeeper I'm indeed rooted. Problem is when I first configured superSU i checked hide from apps list (figured id still be able to get it in /system) So although it asks for permission and still fully functional I cannot open the app to change the configuration. There was some codes *#*#1234#*#* amongst others I thought would bring up the app, but because the sim is no longer registered to a network it just gives a network error.
This has been going on for a week and would really appreciate a solution. Going to google play doesn't show any options. just a picture. If i disable in manage apps i can then deactivate on google play, but it didn't help. Also re flashed rom and nothing changed.
Should be able to open the app somewhere on the phone right? use file explorer to delete some config file that will reset to default?

Hi, to open supersu through the dialpad, please enter the following:
*#*#1234#*#*
or
*#*#7873778#*#* which spells(*#*#SUPERSU#*#*)
If that didn't work, check if supersu is still installed by going to manage applications.

Yeah mentioned the codes in my post. my girlfriend has a deathgrip on the phone right now but i'm pretty sure the exact error was: Not registered on network. I also mentioned that superSU is indeed installed cause I can clear su's data, etc from the manage apps area. I use groove IP for phone calls and I've been putting the code in the phone settings not the groove voip app if that matters.
bumped after a few days of waiting patiently.
Hi i was having similar issues, did you try
*#234#* instead of *#*#234#*#* that worked for me before although my issue now is different.
i was getting an error and work around it by installing
System app remover (root) from play store
then went to apkmanger and click on reinstal Supersu, that bring back the icon
that did not solve my problem of the dialing code not working anymore, but it got me to super su app
hope it helps

This is a complete rewrite in Rust of the UAD bash script.
DISCLAIMER : Use this software at your own risk. I am not responsible for anything that could happen to your phone.
Summary
I try to maintain a universal tool which removes bloatwares on any Android phones by using ADB.
The main goal is to improve battery performance and privacy by removing unnecessary and obscure system apps. This can also contribute to improve security by reducing the attack surface.
Packages are as well documented as possible in order to provide a better understanding of what you can delete or not. The worst thing which could happen is removing an essential system package needed during boot causing then an unfortunate bootloop. After about 5 failed system boots, the phone will automatically reboot in recovery mode and you'll have to perform a FACTORY RESET. So make a backup first!
In any case, you can NOT brick your device with this script ! That's the main thing, right ?
Features
Uninstall/Disable and Restore/Enable system packages
Multi-user support (e.g apps in work profiles)
Export/Import your selection in uad_exported_selection.txt
Multi-device support: you can connect multiple phones at the same time
All your actions are logged so you never forget what you've done
NB : System apps cannot really be uninstalled without root (see the FAQ)

Nice approach. Has someone tried to debloat Google play services? Up till now I install GApps free custom ROMs on my phones.
I try extreme google debloat on Samsung A3 2017. First check was OK. Debloater 2.1 with standard settings GFAM worked fine. Factory reset completely restored all the bloatware.
Second try:
Install f-droid and hacker's keyboard before install
$ adb push F-Droid.apk /storage/emulated/0
$ adb push org.pocketworkstation.pckeyboard_1041001.apk /storage/emulated/0
Replace all #"com.google with "com.google in /lists/Google.sh
Debloat GFAM
Reboot is OK. Playstore still there, but can be deactivated. Samsung_bloat can't be debloated.
Sometimes I get the message Google play services has stopped.
F-Droid can install apps. They run.
Galaxy store can't get deactivated.
Edit: debloating webview was no good idea. I've got many crashes of antennapod app. Restoring helped.
Noob solution: copy Samsung list into Google list and debloat GFAM. Looks good. Only headlines are now says four times Samsung.
GMS debloat fails with some device policy error.
Next noob trick
$ adb shell
a3y17lte:/ $ pm uninstall com.google.android.gms
Failure [DELETE_FAILED_DEVICE_POLICY_MANAGER]
a3y17lte:/ $ pm disable-user com.google.android.gms
Package com.google.android.gms new state: disabled-user
Hi, thank you for this nice thread, exactly what I was looking for.
Possibly a solution for google play services:
I did deactivated the Google play services on Samsung a20 without computer by entering settings app, then "biometric and security" then "other security settings" then "device admin apps" and unselect "find my device", then head over apps in settings and "show system apps, then search for Google play services and now it can be disabled,
For samsung apps you can deactivate it by deactivating "galaxy store"
Perhaps the user must do that before running the code.
HOPE you can manage to translate that into your code language, and integrate it into your script, so we can all enjoy it.
Thank you very much, worked like a charm.

Search your "debloated packages" list for wifi related stuff and restore that. Or make sure both devices are i the same wlan and use an app like TrebleShot or KDE connect

Small tip : you can directly do
Code:
$ adb install F-droid.apk
There was a pretty nasty bug in v2.1 which prevented using the "manufacturer lists". Use v2.2.1 (or, better, wait for the v2.3 which should be released within the week!)
If you have the message `Google Play Services has stopped` it means you didn't uninstall the package. Did you uninstall some Google packages in the advanced debloat section ?
Regarding the Google Webview you can uninstall it but a lot of apps will no longer work correctly or even open. Bromite WebView is a good and more private alternative if you really need a Webview (which is a kind of mini web browser for apps which need to display web content btw)

@Maybeyou is right. You need to uncheck Find My Device from the Device admin apps before trying to uninstall the Google Play Services.
I already mentioned this in the Google.sh file and a script can't do it. It's something you need to do ! I assume a user will read the package description I wrote in the advanced debloat section before doing anything.

@w1nst0n_fr thank you. My first post was not about debloating custom rom from GApps. It was a general question: is the debloater an alternative approach to get a 99% Google free phone. My answer: yes, but you need some luck. You can't know how your phone perfoms afterwards. For custom rom there are tons of reports for each device.

Oh ! I misread you first post actually. You were talking about Gapps free phone. I understand better now!
IMO the most reliable and safest way to get a 99% Google free phone is to install an AOSP custom ROM without Gapps. For the 1% left you need to tinker with DNS, WebView, GPS... (this guide is not bad)
I insist on AOSP custom ROM because a stock-based custom ROM has the same issues as my script. The thing is it is not always possible to unlock the bootloader or to find an AOSP ROM for one's device. This why I created this script.
What is really tedious and not always simple is to document all the packages. There is a LOT of system packages whose the exact function is hard to determine and the consequence of their uninstallation very obscure. When I have the apk I can at least try to reverse-engineer to make some assumptions but it isn't bulletproof.

Nice promotion! "Hey this is second best" I see quite some advantages over aosp rom.
Better hardware support like camera or graphics acceleration.
Better security due to locked boot loader and latest patches in proprietary components.
Better stability - no hobbyists mess around.

I did "install WSL (Windows Subsystem for Linux) in order to be able to use bash scripts and Install ADB. If you want ADB support everywhere on your PC, you need to add the path of the ADB folder in the system variables"
When i use bash app: bash debloat_script.sh and get error "debloat_script.sh: line 112: adb: command not found"

At some point it's easier to run a real Linux system. Dual boot or live usb stick.
- hi guys, i would like to share this exported txt file from 'debloater' which i installed as a magisk module to debloat a samsung phone, in essence debloater works in the same way as the script in the main thread ( thanks @w1nst0n_fr ) other than it can be used locally in termux.
- it took me a while to get the phone to a stable state with multiple tries but i eventually managed to do it.
- I've managed to debloat most of samsung/google junk out including but not limited to google apps, i hope this will help

HELP After updating Android System Webview My Phone is Unresponsive

Hello Guys,
I come in need of a help,
I'm writing from my computer now,
Yesterday my phone was working fine,
Today morning, I updated the apps on my phone; amongst the updates was android system webview.
After a reboot, my phone is unresponsive, it won't open any of the apps from that point.
I reboot again, since keyboard doesn't work, I used the OTG cable to use the physical keyboard to enter the password and get in. Tried entering setting to uninstall that crap app, settings is unresponsive.
No SIM services, no keyboard, no fingerprint, no settings etc.. basically nothing works and everything says "unresponsive and asks to either wait or close".
The only thing I have now is TWRP Recovery, and I'm inside it now.
I've wiped Cache + Dalvik / ART Cache : Result still same, nothing works.
I mailed [email protected] (which is provided in the app's "Developer" section) about this and got a reply that the mail is no longer being monitored.
Can someone please let me know how I can remove android system webview by using TWRP ? So that I can enter the phone back again as normal..
Device Details:
Lenovo K8 Note
Android 7.1.1 Nougat, (Never updated the OS)
Device has been rooted and has recovery options.
I think you can find WebView module in Magisk respiratory so I suggest you give that a try. Flash it and I think it will be fine as long as you have Magisk installed, of course.

Thanks, I couldn't quite understand that..
I've never read/seen a need for Magisk so far.. so may I know what is the procedure to be done here...?
I do read Magisk is a systemless Root, (I already have SuperSu, is that the same functionality? (though I can't open anything that is))
Find the Magisk zip on Google and flash it over TWRP.
Head over to the Magisk module site and you will be able to find an alternate WebView module you can flash. It will be in zip format so I guess you will need USB to transfer those files to your phone since you cannot use it to download modules.

Give it a try and come to tell if you have sorted it out.
If not, you will probably need to flash your ROM again hoping the application won't stay updated but to back to stock version.

Oh, one more thing,
Does this procedure mean, I'll lose TWRP and SuperSu?
Can I not just downgrade the android system webview manually itself?

You won't lose TWRP but I am not sure about SuperSu since it's very old and people don't use it from the time Magisk appeared. I don't think you will be able to have both TWRP and SuperSu.
It would be good for you to just uninstall the updates of WebView if you can use your phone at all. That would solve the problem.
TWRP basically is a menu what allows you to select and apply ADB and/or Fastboot commands.
SuperSU is a Superuser access management tool: it requires SU binary got installed on Android.
Both mentioned sofwares are completely different things, don't depend on each other.
BTW:
I always root Android without the need to make use of Magisk or SuperSU.
So, I went through these

or is there a way to flash an old Android System Web View through TWRP?

Just because of one application?
I just want that android webview gone/replaced with a stable one, is that not possible without destroying everything?
Thanks everyone.
we have a solution,
In my case, uninstalling the Xposed framework fixed it for me..
So, while working on this issue I had made a flow map and a log of what is done and its results, may be someone else can benefit from it in the future..
Spoiler: Tries and results
Even starting the entering phone itself is a big issue, because the keyboard applications don't come up; fingerprint doesn't work on first boot as a security measure as well; connected physical keyboard to OTG to phone to enter password... then greeted with lots of errors of all the applications.

Unpacking the system web view.apk on computer gives crap details as it is almost completely encrypted.
Going rabbit hunting through the rabbit hole, checking each folders on "/"
found something similar /system/app/WebViewGoogle/WebViewGoogle.apk
Quick google search confirms that I’m on the right path to finding it...
May be data or XML is somewhere too?
Deleted(copied and deleted) /system/app/WebViewGoogle/WebViewGoogle.apk
Result, Same
Then Reverted
PS: Original Copy at ext_sdcard
Replaced the existing one (92.0.4515.115 with 90.0.4430.210)
Result, no changes.
Then reverted with the crappy original
May be adb will install properly?
Tried adb commands on phone on TWRP, doesn't work
Tried adb from computer to phone, unable to connect to phone.
Was doing it wrong, while in TWRP, I need to initiate "ADB Sideload" and then connect from PC (with Firewall allowed)
then "adb devices", shows connected device with serial number
after the above, the adb push keeps saying "error: connect failed: closed"
turning phone ON and connecting for additional settings (USB debugging) pops "mtp host failed" as soon as I wire..
Started the phone, switched over to Guest account, (oddly seems stuff there are kind of better with lesser error messages), tried launching playstore and wifi, both need password which I don't have, entering settings, hangs for a while, quickly go to apps and uninstall updates for android system web view.. web view becomes 0.0.1
results, fail
Created a temporary user account on phone whilst booting, (because of the observable lesser apps running if I switch over from main..)
added my gaccount on it,
launched playstore to update the android system web view..
the update is stuck at 60%~70 %each time and is unable to complete..
took the v90 application that is on pendrive, connected otg.. and started to install application manually from there..
it said, no space.. even though there is around 4 GB free... continued to disable other applications, such as chrome, youtube, drive etc..
still unable to install the v90 application
even installing other apps (sudoku example) have the same issue,
and then I see a popup that package manager has stopped working (aha! so that itself doesn't work, then can't install),
Went to see if I can change something on developer options, developer option wont come up even after 7+ taps.. hmm strange, may be only main account can have dev options.
While at it, swapped out the Gboard with older AOSP keyboard (retaining Fleksy though).
Rebooted and tried again.. no fix yet..
Atleast I don't have to switch to physical keyboard now for every reboot, since the inner older keyboard comes for first boot.
By TWRP, removed existing app and replaced with v87; doesn't seem to be any different, same errors...
Was about to install the Magisk but it seems to have lots and lots of catches to it, and things to-do before I can go to that...
Continuing investigation on how to downgrade and get back to older state
Through TWRP, deleted the app folder from /system/app/WebViewGoogle/WebViewGoogle.apk
researched to see if there is something else to delete, couldn't find much... proceeding from what we know...
Removed ATSystem.apk (3C's helper) from /system/priv-app just in cast (copy placed at ext_sdcard)
result no change..
Started at around 31-Jul-21 13:00 and went on till 01-Aug-21 01-26 pausing to for the day to rest...
Restored App Folder back to /system/app/WebViewGoogle/WebViewGoogle.apk
WebViewGoogle.apk is v90 again.. (the original seems to be missing, meh, not like it's going to fix)
reboot, result, no changes.
Starting step to install magisk
Removing xposed now..
wiped dalvik cache
rebooting
Kind of stable!!!
Everything seems to work?!?!
Firewalled all app except playstore and mail,
mail seems to work, but can't open the mails (just the headers are received), clicking on the mail says "unable to inflate webview"
aha, I forgot that I have v87 still, if I update that again, will it work (if it doesn't we know how to revert now)
proceeds to update v87 to latest
reboots,
I guess issue resolved by uninstalling xposed, next step to enter phone and move data to safe zone and think about next step.

Oh... sorry to hear that.
I don't know the solution to that, because mine is rooted I was able to get into the custom recovery and fix things.. not sure what can be done here for your case, (I do know that the old samsung's default recovery is kinda unreadable for English speakers)
So, I think it's best for you to start a new thread in the forum, because if you make a new thread there's a higher chance of reply than this thread which is already marked solved.

Question Upgrading to 12 from 11 on magisk rooted device.

I rooted this device (model XT2131-1 TMO) while it was still on the android 11 using magisk method (currently on v25.2) and it runs fine honestly but when playing games every time the system update window appears it will completely boot me out of said game. I always selected not now( as I know updates break root if you just update) but I wanted to try and just update it and work on rooting that version after but then I receive "Package Verification Failed" notice and nothing happens. After so many attempts of selecting "not now" it will completely stop for a few weeks then start popping up again. So far this is absolutely the only issue I have ATM. More an annoyance really. Is there a way to completely disable that system update notification from appearing entirely or where should I look to restore, update, and then reboot on Android 12? I'd prefer just get rid of the update popup as everything else works fine. I'd appreciate any help thank you.
I also just remembered I've asked this in another thread but in this one im asking more about preferably disabling the system update notification entirely which will fix my main issue of it.

Solution: flash current stock kernel and run update again. You can grab updated stock kernel from RSA and patch and regain root

You can't delete it but you can certainly freeze it find an app like SD maid on Google Play you can freeze all the update apps and associated dll files there's about six or seven of them
I've still got an older pro version of that actually. Ty I'll look into that.
I'm seeing two under sdmaid. Both say frozen already. Which one is the actual android system update app pls?

Yes but there is android system update and then Motorola system update. I've disabled/froze(yes using sd maid and other root accessed app managers separately so as not to mess up anything else) both and their services/triggers (anything linked to ether) each at a time for a couple days and both at the same time and still appears constantly. Only thing I can think of is to completely reset to full stock,go to 12 and reboot ....
Try to disablw this application. i read that this help. I do not vouch for it, I’m not responsible for what happens due to it.

Look for an app called preference manager on Google Play.
Of course it'll require root.
Select each individual app it'll take you to the XML file it creates.
Look for all the timer entries and change them to zero basically make a mess out of it if you will.
As long as you've disabled all the receivers that should stop the app from Auto Wake
