I'd like to start by saying this is my first post. I have used XDA since I got my HTC Vision and am a huge fan of this website, I would like to start with a comparison of CM9 Beta 6 with beta 7 kernel and Virtuous Quattro RC3
I am coming the Virtuous G-Lite v1.0.7 rom and absolutely love the speed and battery, but I think its time to upgrade to Ice Cream Sandwich.
After I test these two today I will let you know what I think of the two. Looking forward to your responses and why.
Here's what I will mainly be looking for
Overall speed
Battery life
Keyboard backlight
Fast switching b/w apps especially Messaging & Browser
Fast web browser
Working GPS
Toggles (Wifi, BT, Torch, GPS, Data & Brightness)
Customization / Options
Cyanogen Mod 9.0.0 RC0 Beta 6 w/ Beta 7 kernel (for working wifi)
Likes
Seemed pretty zippy, didnt install all my apps. Quadrant score of 2251 at max CPU frequency. opening up phone was a tad slow.
Cant get an accurate rating on the battery life but 4% went by when testing everything in about 15 min.
keyboard backlight works! does NOT need to be set to auto in order to work.
Messaging opens swiftly, browser opening and home page load was sub-par
GPS works perfectly
Like the toggles above the date, saves room. easy set up
Nice homescreen options, themes, profiles, lock screen shortcuts, dev options/performace, also like how the "turn on USB storage" screen pops up as soon as you connect your USB
Dislikes
Not too much to complain about seems like a good daily ROM. Everything seems to work fine. Unfortunately due to time and impatience I cant get a good grip on how decent the battery life was. If you know this please let me know! I have only read about it having bad battery life..

Virtuous Quattro RC3

Seemed faster than CM9. Scored a 2195 on Quadrant, 3489 for CPU.
Battery life isnt as good as G-lite so far, seems better than CM9. Have read someone got 30% bettet than gingerbread?
keyboard backlight only works if "auto brightness" is selected
no lag between apps it seems, once again, I have not backed up all my apps that I normally have..
Slight lag because of an auto google sign in
GPS works but is kind of laggy at initial opening, 2nd restart works perfect.
Toggles are great, many customizable options, has switches but also the classic press to turn on. I also liked the birghtess slider toggle vs 24% 50% 75% Auto. etc..
VERY customizable, cool tweaks with battery and clock in status bar, many options with lock screen pretty neat stuff! Also has the auto turn on usb storage, must be an ICS thing?
Overall seemed like a great ROM, better than CM9 in my opinion, came with the latest gapps so that was nice I didnt have to flash that. Also boots up very fast!
Max CPU can be set to 1920 MHz instead of 1843 MHz, I would never run it everyday at this speed, but again just a nice little tweak. Really like the Quattro Control.
Dislikes
Not much for dislikes besides all the initial lags with first time using of apps. I wish I did not have to have Auto Brightness on for the keypad to work, at night or in movies.. etc I would miss being able to have brightness all the way low AND have my keypad backlight. With Quattro, it only works with it on Auto (which in dark rooms is set to about 25%)

While both these two ICS seem to be a major improvement from Gingerbread, I am not sure if any ROM will beat the battery life of G-Lite v1.0.7! I could go for 2 hours before I went under 90%, with ICS it seems to drain pretty quick. If G-lite had the same type of toggles Quattro did, I would definitely be keeping G-lite. Anyways these were my opinions of CM9 and Quattro in comparison to GB. Let me know what you think!
I am using CM9 Nightly (13.05) and like it. But there is one problem with GPS drivers, most of navigation apps didnt work. F.e.:
- Sygic (not working)
- Navigon (not working)
More replies would be great here. I'm rooting a friend's Desire Z and am trying to choose between them. I have CM9 on my Galaxy S2, and initially planned to put that on the Desire Z, but from inspecting both ROMs, Virtuous seems to have the edge.
Camera Working or not?
Hi, is the camera working on ANY of these ROMs?
Tried Virtuous Quattro RC3 last week and I had to go back to CM7.2_RC3.. The camera does'nt work well, images get corrupted and there is no autofocus.
Also, the occasional graphics glitch when accessing Google Play.
I upgraded from CM7.2 RC1 to RC3 by just wiping the Dalvik Cache, would I be able to do the same with CM9 Beta?
Thanks!
Does anyone get an error installing ics of cw9 (iteration) in cwm with an error that states something like this but for i9001.
assert failed: file_getprop("/system/build.prop", "ro.build.fingerprint") == "Lenovo/ThinkPadTablet/Indigo:4.0.3/ThinkPadTablet_A400_03/0065_0128_US:user/release-keys" || file_getprop("/system/build.prop", "ro.build.fingerprint") == "Lenovo/ThinkPadTablet/Indigo:4.0.3/ThinkPadTablet_A400_03/0065_0128_US:user/release-keys"

I have now stock COS 12.1YOG4PAS3JL with root, unlock bootloader, Boeffla Kernel and TWRP recovery.
I uninstalled unnecessary google apps, done factory reset, and installed Greenify+Xposed.
But on this ROM I have only 4h SoT, in the night battery falls from 80% to 70% but wakelock detector didn't show anything process draining battery.
Phone have lags, and sometimes soft reboot.
I'm searching for best package(ROM+Kernel) for best battery life and system stability. Can anyone help me?
Don't install XenonHD. While it is fast and smooth, I am encountering random reboots of up to 6 times per day. It also sometimes fails to wakeup properly and reboots instead. I'm still searching for a good rom, just like you.
I'm on the snapshot channel of CM, and everything works just superb. I have 5+hrs of SOT, and I'm happy with that.
Try brokenOS, 6h SOT.
I only manage 4.30hours display on with the same rom as op, being from a nexus 5 I'm having trouble finding that rom
Tried broken os, I couldn't find the option to disable the capacitive buttons yet.

This. If you want good battery life, any 4.4 Rom will do you fine.
Yes, they are right about K.K ROMs but if you must move up Slimsaber 5.1.1 rock solid good battery life and fast and smooth. Than for 6.0.1 DARKOBAS best damn ROM out right now.
And which KK custom ROMs had best battery life and smooth system?
I would recommend SlimKat for best battery life.
I had even 6hour SOT. Probably it isnt a lot, but keep in mind that my phone has a touch screen issues so fix drains my battery a bit more.
Not in any particular order,
Lollipop Rom's- CrDroid 5.1.1 (favourite ) ,sultanxda CAF rom, Dirty Unicorns. TipsyOS ( favourite ) BrokenOS 5.1.1 - enable all the init script options available under setting, , Resurrection ROM.
kitkat- Defiantly better battery life but you probably struck with systemupdateservice bug. I tried all the available fixes but no success.
Gapps- slim
kernel - inbuilt (Do not change it unless Dev specifies ) .You can always tinker with kernel options to suit your needs.
Heavy Battery draining apps: whatsapp, facebook.
Custom roms are already optimized for better experience and sleep like a baby when it is not in use and it doesn't need any battery saving apps.
If you still face any issues with battery drain, use betterbatterystats.apk to find the root cause and fix it or find alternatives.
My setting:
Remove unused apps: email, nfc, live wallpaper picker,..
Alternative- Dual boot patcher (snapshot)
Primary rom with all required apps - home use,
secondary rom without gapps - office use ...(no drain whatsoever )
Hope i had answered your question to some level. Have a nice day.
I use exedus 5.1.1 with AK kernel and loads of changes , most importantly:
under clock to 1420
on demand governor
1420mhz input boost all cores
Suspend Max frequency 729mhz
268mhz under volt to 630mhz ( on my phone)
462mhz gpu undreclock
This has input lag than stock or cm nightlys and 9 hour SOT with Facebook ,WhatsApp and mostly chrome use.
When you want to game just take off the 1420mhz undreclock and its super smoooooooth

Nice reveiws
I havent used all of them but did use AOSIP,AICP,Mokee,Xiaomi.eu rom, crdroid.
*AOSIP is good but it was giving me heavy battery drain and heating.
*AICP rocks! but unfortunately the thread has been discontinued. also, the root works but you have to go to magisk settings and enable is manually from there. other than that, great battery and performence.
*crdroid- It is what i am using now, performence is smooth but it laggs when watching vedios on chrome. testing battery life.
*Xiaomi.eu had a great battery life but it felt too laggy after using AICP. also it had heating issues and it was on android L.
*Mokee 5.0 was great in terms of battery and performence. But 6.0 build had battery drain and the sensors are not working. but it offers butter smotth performence!
please post your opinions

What about slimroms
Bro, I've switched my device now. Don't use 4i anymore. Good luck
Has anyone else noticed a serious lag after upgrading to Android 10? I use DEX for Windows and notice it the most there.
I checked the processor and it seems to be running quite high. I set it to max performance even after that, with DEX running, CPU usage is 78+% with nothing running.
I checked without DEX and it still runs 50+%. I went in to apps and manually shut down EVERY app and the processor stayed the same. I cleared cache with no luck. I am thinking about going back to Android 9, where I had zero lag unless someone has a suggestion to fix it.

i dont see lag with my note10 plus
i use dex daily it is absolutly fine in 9 and 10 (battery time reduced but no that much to complain)
however i suggest
minimize screen resolution
auto brightness
hard reset or
reflash corrrct firmware using odin
use optimised settings in (battery settings)
use specified type c to hdmi
if nothing works good to claim for warranty
may be something wrong with hardware
Do a factory reset first. My phone flies on Android 10
Hello!
I'm sure this has been asked a million and one times but my searching only brings up results if I was the developer of an app. Guess my google skills aren't that great.
I have a Pixel 2 XL running stock android 11.X what ever we are up to now. For a while I have been having the phone running quite slow at times, laggy animations and freezes. Its not completely unusable, but what's throwing me off, is about 75% of the time it is like this, but the other 25% it runs smooth and quick, no lag at all, using the same apps I normally use. I can't figure out what is causing the lag the other 75% of the time, or what's different when it is running fast. Sometimes it takes up to a minute for Android Auto to load up when its lagging.
So what I'm asking is, are there any apps, root or non root, that I can use to more specifically see what apps are using CPU cycles or high memory usage? The battery usage in settings is only showing expected usage from my apps, so its not really helping.
Thanks in advance for your suggestions.
i'm looking into it too. so far, found none
