Back button Ghosting/pressing itself - Galaxy S6 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi, I have a galaxy s6 and its back button is pressing itself, without me touching it, closing apps and making it unusable. Using warranty isnt an option as it was bought abroad.
What are my options? Is this necessarily a hardware problem or could it be software related?

me too have this problem

I had similar then found that the animations (in developer) were set to 0.25, reset them to 1, used rebooted a few times and now its OK. Could be coincidence but tried reboot, clearing cache etc before the Animation setting?? Weird but may be worth trying.

my phone is already set to animation 1s
I change launcher and now the problem seems to be less frequent (I install nova at the place of next launcher)
I think that the problem maybe depend by some app not perfectly compatible with lollipop 5.1.1.

I had this problem on my S6 and when I googled it, it seemed to be a recurring issue on Samsung phones. Poor insulation causes the radio to leak into and trigger the captive buttons in weak signal areas. What eventually fixed it for me was replacing my tempered glass screen protector with another one, as non-unrelated as it sounds.

Mine never made that, even in poor/nonexistent areas... I believe that has massively to do with the production quality of every particular product. Some of them might be a little bit better fabricated than others.

I had this problem. Luckily I was on warranty and just switched it out. I would try factory reset tbh, that's the only thing I didn't try

[Q] Touchscreen problem when typing on keyboard?

I'm on stock 4.0.4 and I have an i9020a. Ever so often, when I'm typing on the keyboard (sending a text message or whatever) one key will stop responding to light touches... you need to press it hard. Sometimes it will be the a key, the s, key or the f key etc. It happens once or twice every two days i would say. I'm just a bit scared that it could develop into something worse? Should I be worried? Is it a software or hardware problem?
Thanks a lot!
Try to download other keyboard app, like go keyboard...
If downloading a keyboard app doesnt work.
You would have to probably to a reset.
Wipe dalvik cache and cache. Make sure you back up EVERYTHING onto. eg gmail.
Apps can be redownloaded from your saved list in google play store.
Back up using titanium back up or any other back up program that works for you.
When I unlock my screen and the keyboard is still there because I left it when I locked my phone... I got the same problem too.. I need to re-lock and unlock it..
Yeah.. clearing cache and dalvik cache doesn't work. I've also done many factory resets and I still have this problem.
Have you tried clearing data for Android keyboard under settings | apps | all?
Sent from my Nexus S using XDA
Developer options has a touchscreen "test" feature. Can you verify that the phone registers touches in that region with and without the keyboard?

Good idea! I'll try that and get back to you. It's been happening slightly less recently... but the problem is still there.

The phone doesn't register touches in that region (I tried with the touchscreen test feature) It happens really rarely, but should I be concerned? It seems like I had more problems with ICS then Gingerbread. I still have my year warranty, but don't wanna use it up yet.. I don't know what to do?
You don't "use it up", you'll still have 12 months warranty from the day you bought the phone, you will however be without your Nexus for a 2-3 weeks.
If there is no screen protector or similar in the way and you have the same problem with different ROMs (particularly stock ROMs), i would straight up classify it as hardware and get samsung to sort it out for you. It's not so much that it could get worse or something like that, but that is a problem which you don't need to be going through.
Just be sure to fully test some stock ROMs, after full wipes, to make sure it is hardware related - if the problem persists, definitely make it samsungs problem.

I don't want to risk losing my Nexus S for 2-3 weeks, for now at least. It's been happening very rarely recently. Maybe once in the past month. For now, I'll continue using my Nexus S but I probably will send it in for repair in September or so
I have a similar problem - only my Nexus S almost NEVER respond to light touches
I ALWAYS have to type slowly and firmly to make it each touch register.
Another broken behaviour about Nexus S' touchscreen (or the driver) is that swipes aren't registered until 3-4 millimeters into the swipe
This means short swipes are often interpreted as taps stopping the motion
Get this: I even had mine sent to repairs but they said Samsung tested it and claimed there were no faults whatsoever!
I'm gessing it's a badly badly designed driver - Google's way of avoiding "accidential taps".
Not sure I'd ever buy another Samsung or google branded phone. Only after THOROUGH testing of that touchscreen.

Rotating fails :( Only at my device?

I made a video, here is the link:
http://youtu.be/_4KC8wnc_zE?t=23s
It won't rotate correctly, I already tried several apps for setting the wallpaper, but no one worked
This seriously looks sh**
Is it only my device that has this problem?
Greetings
What do you mean it fails? It looks exactly just as it should. I have audio off, so if you said something crucial there, can you repeat it here.
I don't see anything worrying apart from a slight lag, but this may be your camera.
Edit: Sorry, after looking at it for the second time and in the full-screen mode now, I can see what you mean - there's a black bar that gets updated later. It certainly shouldn't be this way. I had similar issues with pdf rendering in the power-saving mode. What settings are you on?

I dont have mine yet, but compared to my wife's ipad2, with whats in the video, it seems there is a lot of lag?
Shouldnt that thing turn almost a second after you have turned it?
It can take like 2 or 3. It seems slower than iPad, but also have in mind that iPad uses the animation that lasts about a second itself. Anyway, should be faster, I agree, although I think it's only a little worse on this video than what I normally experience, so if there's a speed issue, it's not rotation issue, but a general one. Try different power modes and be sure to update to .26 firmware.

The thing about wallpaper misguided me a bit though.

No, that is not "real" lag, it has been included to make sure you really want to turn it to landscape for example (as far as I know).
On my galaxy nexus with 4.1 the lag seems to have gone, seems to me like they disabled it there.
So just wait for 4.1 if you don't like the "lag".
But thats not the point. d14b0ll0s, you correctly recognized the black bar, and the picture itself seems to zoom in and out sometimes, aligning itself to the left, to the right and then in the center.
But I don't know what to do, is that definitely not the case on your device? Am I really the only one?
In that case I have to hardreset it
Not only do hard reset, but - what's more important - try re-flashing firmware (you can actually start with it). If the problem remains, return the device. I'm definitely not getting anything like that.
Use Titanium Backup or MyBackup if you have something you don't want to lose and copy the files to your PC.
Problem solved
You'd never guess what caused the problem:

Deleted that and it's gone

Glad it's solved, but you should've mentioned you're using apps changing your desktop / wallpaper behaviour in any way.
BTW, I knew there was a reason not to like this app in the first place

[Q] A lot of issues with my S6. Has anyone else experienced these? Solutions?

My phone is out of the return window now and dealing with customer service is probably my last resort.
My phone is on stock Touchwiz and unrooted, T-mobile variant. I have factory reset my phone 3 times and deleted the cache but these issues remain.
Here are some of the issues I have had. I am hoping they are software, but I couldn't find much information on any of them. If you also have experienced these, please let me know just to know that I'm not crazy and alone in this.
Camera app will be black on launch and crash due to an error. - This reminds me of the Lollipop software issue that I had on my Nexus 5 so I'm not too concerned since an update is coming out, but it is still bothersome when I bought the S6 for the fast camera launch but I have to restart the phone because I get this error. At least restarting the phone fixes this.
Phone vibration is inconsistent or weak. - The vibration was strongest when I first bought it, but it has grown considerably weaker. It still can be strong sometimes, but it fluctuates. Sometimes the vibration is so weak that I can't feel anything unless I put it on max strength under Vibration settings, but it sometimes fixes itself and isn't as weak. It hasn't been as strong since I first got it from what I remember. Restarting the phone does not fix it. It just comes and goes.
Phone does not receive or send sound when answering or making phonecalls. - This is hard to explain, but sometimes when I'm making a call, the dial tone will never sound and if the call looks as if it has gone through, there will be no sound. The person will say they received a call but didn't hear anything as well. This also happens if someone gives me a call and I pick up and hear no sound. A phone restart usually doesn't fix this, but sometimes it just magically works again.
Sound turned off by itself. - This has only happened once or twice so far but it was bothersome. I didn't change or touch any of my settings for this to happen. My sound just stopped working. Youtube app, volume settings, etc. didn't create any sound. When my alarm went off, it made no noise. Restarting the phone would fix it.
Anyway, please let me know if you have had these similar problems. Is it likely they are software related? I can't find any solutions and if a factory reset is not fixing it, I don't know what to do.
Thank you!

So? You have a faulty phone and these issues would be taken care of within your warranty period right?
yes you can do a warranty exchange. theyll replace it

Phone getting slow after some time

My phone is dropping the framerate on touching the screen occasionally, stuttering for a short time. It is fine again after rebooting, but I am facing this problem since I got the phone three weeks ago. Does anyone else experience this? Is there a solution? I am worried this could be a hardware defect.
Try to reinstall the ROM. You can install full ROM without losing data. If that doesn't help, try a clean install.
Yes I see it too. In fact I started a thread on this in Q&A section but nobody seems to be interested
Nothing I seem to do in terms of tweaking the performance parameters seems to help. It can be fine for half an hour and then out of nowhere a few frames are dropped and it looks awful
It's ok 98% of the time but those 2% are making it hard for me to love this phone.

It sounds like a rogue app is taking control of your phone. I checked your Profile GPU rendering screenshot against mine, and indeed, mine never goes much higher above one-half length of the green line, which I think may be the 120fps limit (the green line itself is 16ms or 60fps.)
Seems to me that you need to uninstall some custom/rare apps to troubleshoot this issue.
It is definitely not normal behavior.

So my guess is that either people don't notice it, but I think that's quite impossible as even some kernel devs told me they wouldn't experience this. Or it's a fault in oos itself. Or we are using an app or some setting that's causing this. Or it's a kind of defect, which I think is unlikely but not impossible.
I am about to reset the phone completely to stock with msm download tool and start from scratch. Have you already done something similar?
Next idea would be flashing Omni ROM as I believe this is one of the most clean and fluid custom roms. If all of this fails, I would start to believe it's a hardware problem.

I would suggest you learn adb/ fastboot to do this so you learn to know what, how and why you doing this and that.
Not really difficult but extremly helpful if you face problems.
The large amount of applications and internet uses it may slow. Better cleared all caches and it's working properly.

Question Ghost Touch at the Center Part of the Display

Anyone experiencing ghost touches on the center part of the display? I thought I was just accidentally touching but it turns out there are ghost touches. It rarely happens and I still couldn't figure out the reason. Note: cleaning the screen of moisture didn't help.

During. When I'm just scrolling through my apps or even playing games. It doesn't matter if I am in a cold or warm environment. It even happens when I'm doing basically nothing - staring at my homescren and suddenly it opens the app located at the center.
To give you a better view, here's my homescreen. The ghost touch is located on Waze app but sometimes on Moto or even Settings app.
Try safe mode.
I would ditch Waze app and flipboard.
Try clearing the system cache.
See what's running in the background when it happens.
Use the factory diagnostic touch screen test to see if it may be hardware caused. Not sure how you access it it on that phone.

Hopefully it's not hardware related.
You can use cqa test to check the hardware. *#*#2486#*#*
Nahhh it's not related to any app. I may be wrong but it could be the software update from Motorola since I didn't encounter the issue when I first used the phone.

Yah. All the standard testing done. My phone seems to work fine now after removing 1 sim while keeping the other. It must be affecting the internals when dual SIM is utilized which is a design flaw or was not tested properly.

Could be a blown sim card. Replace both and follow ESD protocol when handling them, always.
Handle like a stick of ram.
Excessive ESD exposure can cause random failures immediately or worse, days, weeks even years latter. These cards are dirt cheap but a delayed failure can cost you dearly...

Hello everyone!
I have this same problem here on my brazilian Moto G100 and in the same place almost in the center of the screen. After removing the screen protector, the problem is more difficult to happen, but it still happens rarely, requiring a cleaning of the screen for the problem to stop happening for a while.
I noticed that the problem happens several times when I leave the smartphone leaning against metallic surfaces or other electronic devices.
Is it necessary to use the warranty to replace this screen or can a firmware update solve this problem?
Regards!
