On 4.4.2 you're either stuck using safestrap recovery and Touchwiz ROMs, or you can pay to have a jtag soldered in which allows for downgrading back to 4.3 or older

Actually trying to help. I see everyone saying "you can only use safestrap" and "there's no way to downgrade" likes it's fact. Sorry. My bad. I'll just ignore the misinformation from now on and let people spead lies.

[Q] Verizon Galaxy S3 remove 4.3 update?

Does this method work on the verizon Galaxy S3? Has anyone tried it to confirm it works? I want to downgrade so I can root and install cyanogenmod which I can't seem to do with the 4.3 update.

Yeah I'm a new member and I just learned I can't post links, yet. but the method is from Androidpit and the method requires using Odin and a .tar file of an older version
At this point I'm pretty sure all methods have been tried to downgrade back to 4.1.2

If you took the OTA 4.3 update, the bootloader is locked and it has blocked ALL earlier factory versions and all non factory ROMS.

I looked up your specific tutorial, it definitely will not work.
That only works on the international model. As a general rule, never trust a guide unless it says it's specifically for the Verizon galaxy s3. It's locked down much tighter than any other s3 models, and many alterations that can be performed on the other variants will often brick this model.

You can still root, install a ROM with Safe Root or Safestrap or whatever, and have a better-running phone. You simply can't install a different kernel... it sounds like you can even still have a custom Recovery (modified TWRP is my understanding).

I can't post links but if you search for thread number 2565758, that's everything you need for the Saferoot method that works for the Galaxy S3 (usually). I say usually because it doesn't work on my phone but I know plenty of others that have had no issues.

I've already used saferoot but I can't get into custom recovery with it, and I can't use custom ROMs because of the update, that's why I've been looking fr a way to downgrade to 4.1 or something.

Want some advice? Sell the S3 for a pre-4.3 S3 or sell the S3 for another device. Theres no guarantee that AOSP will ever work with Safestrap.

Well I have been considering dropping a bit of money getting a used international S3 because the Cyanogenmod installer would work with it, but I don't think my Verizon SIM card would work in it.

It wouldn't, you need a CDMA device, the international s3 doesn't have CDMA bands. Verizon leaves you pretty limited in device selection.

Rooting Galaxy s3 with 4.3

I have a Verizon Galaxy S3 with Android 4.3 and Baseband I535VRUCNC1.
Reading around this site...too much technical jargon and unorganized threads on rooting.
Can some please give me the simple straightforward directions or a link to root my phone so I quit receiving the notification to update to KitKat? I don't want KitKat.
Thanks.

4.4.2 downgrade to 4.1.2 - Possible?

Hello everyone,
I have a SCH-I535 running 4.4.2 that I bricked last night after running ez-unlocker (attempting to modify the bootload) and just got it back to work after using a debrick image... I would like to know if it is possible to downgrade back to JB 4.1.2? and if so how will accomplish this since it is not letting me bypass the odin process due to a recovery failed error...
Thank you very much!

Wait a week or so. I had an idea the other day and we are just now trying to put it to the test. It may unlock the bootloader, who knows! The method works on Motorola phones with the Qualcomm msm8960 chips. And guess what. The s3 has the same chip. And the exploit was directed towards that chip.

That link has been posted in these forums before. That downgrade only works on the i9300 international version, not the i535 Verizon version. The screenshot in the article you linked even shows the about phone as the i9300. This article you linked is from 8 months ago. If this worked on the Verizon version it would have been all over these forums. The article you linked even mentions how trying this process resulted in hard bricks on the AT&T version. Anyone trying this on the Verizon version will suffer the same fate.

Plenty of new people who would read your description, click on the link, follow the suggestion contained in the article without also looking into the details, and brick their phone. The current ROM I have is BoneStockRom V3.3, I like it good enough but looking to see what else is out there. I do NOT want something that I have to flash all the time. I would like something more up to date, stable and has a better radio/signal than what I have now.
know I am asking for many opinions, but I love feedback, so cab you guys give me your thoughts?
THanks

As far as a radio you can update to the latest modem if you'd like which is NE1 without having any issues. I've ran tons of roms on my old S3 but the best by far was slimkat. It's truly up to you what you want but your best bet is to read others opinions

I also have a Note 3 for Verizon, but when I got it it had 4.4.4 and from what I have read, there is not a root for it. I mainly want to root to get rid of the bloatware and get the mobile hotspot freed up. I tried using FoxFi on the Note 3, but that was horrible.

[Q] Help with root on 4.4 with newest kernel

hello I'm not sure if there's any method it yet but I can't get any response on the Android forums so I've come here since I normally get good responses here. Anyways, I have the Verizon S3 under Verizon prepaid. It came pre-installed with 4.4 and a kernel of July 22, 2014. I had a phone before this one that was the same but it ran 4.3. I used towel root and it worked flawlessly. Now that I had returned the phone and got a new one due to one of my goofs. It came with 4.4 as I mentioned and the newer kernel. I tried towel root and it says it's not supported. I tried messing with the mod strings to no avail. So I have read it's from the newer kernel they put on the S3 that patched up the towel root exploit. So my question is, is there any other way at all that can root my device? It drives me crazy not having root. It's one of my habits in tinkering with things but can't do no tinkering on a non rooted device. So any help is appreciated.

I don't know honestly. I know of devs but not for this device. I know one who hard bricked his device with the 4.3 update and moved on completely from this device and onto Nexus devices

Well I didn't see any nexus devices under prepaid and I'd rather not go under contract. Do you think if I got a kernel from someone running 4.4 but it's older then my own, and flashed it via Odin, that it would work? Like remove the patch and be exploitable by towel root again? Or you think it'll just brick?

I know its been awhile since i last posted here but just telling everyone i have found a root method to obtain root on 4.4 with the new kernel dated on or before july 22 2014. I used the kingroot app. Just one click and got root. Not sure if kingroot and kingoroot are the same but i just used the king root to get root. I tried kingoroot and it fails. Any ways best of luck to everyone.
