My problem is in the title. It isn't my grip either. I have tried placing my finger over the proximity sensor and still it doesn't turn off. I have tried turning off and restarting my phone. Thanks.
Do you have a screen protector on which covers the proximity sensor?
Else I'd suggest a software repair.
Any chance it being in speakerphone mode? The screen off by proximity is disabled then.
:silly:

This solution maybe is not for everyone but i was clear connector on board with isopropyl alcohol 99.9% and now is working fine
Regards
My screen goes black when I am in a phone call and it does not turn on unless I hold the power button or something like that. I have already went to the proximity settings to test that it is working.
Any ideas?
Firmware version? Seems to be a bug in last firmwares. Also had this issue some time. Now it seems to be gone.

.In the process of backing up my phone atm to try a factory reset. I'm on latest T-mobile version though.
How did you fix yours?
Bump. Anyone? Is there a fix or is my sensor faulty? Because if it is I can still send it back in for a replacement. Sometimes it will work fine, and sometimes it won't.
I've got similar problem. When sensor is activated, it's keeping activated even if nothing is in front of sensor, so I have to wait for other side to end a call.. any suggestions?
EDIT: problem solved-> I just cleaned the glass on proximity sensor, maybe some dust was there

I also have a problem with phone's proximity sensor. With me, it shows some signs of work right after i boot up the phone. In service menu (*#*#7378423#*#*) -> Proximity switch starts with On value and then goes Off, On, Off, On.. a cycle of at least one minute. The interesting thing is when i cover the sensor it stays On, which means it detects its working. I suppose the sensor is faulty, as I tried several suggested methods to resolve this issue: pressing firmly on top of the sensor, factory resets, reinstalling the software with Sony's PC software kit, some applications from Google market, etc. None of them helped.
As I bought my phone 2nd hand, I see the upper speaker is pressed on its left side a little bit, as if the phone was dropped exactly on this spot at the speaker (which I find is almost impossible, as the front panel is perfect without scratches or anything) or somehow it was pushed with some sharp object. I explained this as it might have a link with the proximity sensor issue, or it may not be connected to it, not sure.
Hi
Is there a way to disable the lock screen altogether so when one presses the power it goes directly to the desktop without an added swipe? I have this option on my nexus 4....
How do you people wake up the phone quick if it's lying on the table and one can't reach the fingerprint sensor?
That is exactly what I would like to do, disable Lockscreen! Have you found a way to do it? Or has anyone else?
Settings\Developer options\Screen lock.
Try the above to see if it works. I am using an international mate 9 in Hong Kong.
double tap to wake up is the only thing this Mate9 lacks of hope they will bring this back to Mate10 or I will go for LG V30 next year for sure
Mine "Settings\Developer options\Screen lock" has been gray off. Anyway suggestion?

Unfortunately, you have to factory reset to use this setting in this case.
What if you lost your phone? Not a good idea to have no security lock screen at all.

I pick the phone up and place my finger on the sensor. It's not that difficult. ?
The problem is caused by aggressive doze and has been resolved.
--------------------
I upgraded to OOS 5.1.6 yesterday, then I found that I can't unlock my phone by fingerprint when the screen is off. After some tests, I realize this is a problem with pocket mode.
When the phone is in my pocket, which means that the distance sensor is covered by an object, I can't unlock my phone by fingerprint or use screen off gesture. When I take the phone out of my pocket, I should be able to use these features again. But in OOS 5.1.6, after I take the phone out of my pocket, I can't do these unless I press the power button.
Does anyone have the same problem?
Do you have ang Glass screen protector that covers proximity sensor?
Really strange. I also updated my OP6 to OOS 5.1.6 and I don't encountered any problem with fingerprint or face unlock. I also have a full and original OP screen protector.
That wasn't just 5.1.6 it happened in 5.1.5 too. It's because the proximity sensor isn't going to stay on 24/7 and waste battery just to see if it's in your pocket. It'll check, if it's in a pocket it'll disable the fingerprint sensor and double tap to wake for a short amount of time, then check again, repeat.

Yes, I think that if you are in doze mode, the system will check the distance sensor less. Or maybe this is just a problem of the optimize app.
Nope, no issues at all really and nothing with teh fingerprint sensor not responding from in pocket since being on 5.1.6 since Saturday. I have the regular pre-installed protector on. I also have the aggressive doze on and only Textra, Whatsapp and Blue Mail whitelisted.

I just got my OP6 last weekend and I immediately took the OTA. I have had no problems with the pocket sense. I pull mine out of my pocket all the time and it immediately unlocks when I use the print sensor.

Waiting for 5.1.7
I know it's supposed to, but it's starting to annoy me that I have such a hard time swiping down for notifications because 7 out of 10 times I try, the screen turns off.
Any fix for this?
Are you using a screen protector? It could be interfering with the prox sensor. There may also be an issue with the phone app as the screen should only shut off with prox sensor when you're in a call. If the phone app is stuck it might think you're still on a call. Have you rebooted the phone? Uninstall/reinstall updates for phone?
Someone else had a similar issue last week here or on reddit. I'll see if I can find it.

here it is, doesn't look like OP provided an update https://forum.xda-developers.com/pixel-3/help/problem-t3858582
@alnova1
I had the same issue (no screen protector also), dealt with it for about a week and finally called support about the issue. They told me that they have been dealing with other people who are having the same issue and did an RMA for me without much push back.
So I cleaned my screen real good, especially there by the sensor. It's behaving normally now. It wasn't THAT dirty, but apparently it made a difference. It I have issues again, I'll call support.
(No screen protector btw... Not yet anyway)
