Samsung Note 1 - USB not working - General Questions and Answers

Hello!
I have Note 1 N7000, about 2 and a half years old and I'd like to keep using it.
It has it's original OS 4.1.2, factory reset has been performed about 2-3 times.
None of the USB functions work - data transfer, tethering, OTG, nothing. I can only charge the phone (but not with any cable which indicates a bad [worn out] USB port).
The problem came out of nowhere (as it always does) - one day I wanted to transfer files via cable and the phone simply couldn't be recognized by the PC.
Before that I disabled some google's apps (and some others) that I never used so I performed a factory reset just to make sure I didn't disable somenthing required by usb to operate but with no luck.
I ordered a new USB port (the little board with usb) from ebay and installed it today by following instructions from youtube.
The phone can now be charged with any cable (as expected) but all other USB functions still refuse to work (not as expected).
I'm currently out of ideas, what could be the cause?

i would re-flash stock. you should be able to find a guide and files in your devices forum.
you could have some corrupt files, and a factory reset wouldnt fix that.
if stock doesnt fix the problem, you likely would have some additional hardware issue, im not sure what it would be though.

short story: I installed custom ROM (this one: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2179332 - the v16) and it still doesn't work.
Long story:
Stock recovery didn't let me to create a backup, nor it allowed me to install ROM from SD card. I couldn't flash via Odin or some other similar tool because my phone's USB doesn't work
I figured out I should try a custom recovery.
Is there any other way to flash a stock ROM (or any other) than installing it from a SD card? I haven't done this before so please, be patient
I found PhilZ Kernel (5.0.3) and CWM recovery (6.something), merged into a single .zip that could be put on a SD card and installed from there. It said it was for XXLT5 (which is my version of 4.1.2) if that matters.
Installed it and now I had that CWM recovery that gave me the ability to create backup and flash from SD card.
I downloaded stock ROM from SamMobile.com, identical to my original one (XXLT5, my country, my operator, TWO mark), put it on SD card, did a full wipe and tried to install it but it said "installation aborted".
Then I downloaded another stock from the same site, also XXLT5 and Croatia but no carrier specified, TRA mark. It was the same size (786 MB) as the previous one if it's of any importance.
That one also refused to install.
Then I searched for a custom ROM until something not too wild shown up, the link is in the beginning of this post.
It installed normally from SD card and it behaves normally too, except for the fact that the USB problem persists.

you cant flash stock firmware through recovery.
take a look at this. it flashes stock firmware from on the device.
you will need to verify there is a version for your device, and how to use it. i have never used it myself. seems simple enough though. put firmware on device, flash with app. done.

Thank you for this, excellent app.
I flashed stock ROM successfully, but USB still doesn't show any signs of life (the only thing it does is charge battery).
...not a very bright future, right?

right, now that you are clean stock, there should be no reason its not working other than hardware.
edit, maybe try some different usb cables, could be you got a bad one.

I have several other cables and other phones (and other PC-s) at home. All combinations work on every PC.
It's only my phone that doesn't work regardless of which cable I use (or which PC I try to connect it to).
One friend suggested me to downgrade it to 2.3.5 (and then try to update it back to 4.1.2 in case it works [or even if it doesn't ]). His idea is that it might work because gingerbread uses USB mass storage protocol instead of MTP.
I downloaded some apps (tried a few of them) which switch from MTP to USB mass storage (in 4.1.2 ), one even required reboot after changing the setting but none of them gave any results.
Somehow I doubt this switching back to 2.3.5 would work, should I even bother?

Galaxy Sl boot loop after physical Damage

At first I should say that it is not my phone and don't know how exactly what happened to it
One of my friend gave it to me and told that after dropping from 1meter on the ground phone
start auto rest some times in day and after one month it got boot loop.
he take the phone to a person to fix but that guy
Said :the hard don't work.
so he decided to buy a new phone and now he asked me to find a way for fixing.
I don't believe that the hard don't work cuz I have damaged my phone hard by repapartitioning from Emmc to MTD.if the hard dosent work the phone shouldn't turn on.
Now I have a galaxy sl which could be turned on and can go to downloading mod. what should I do? his owner said he have flashed a Rom once but no result.
is there a way for fixing?
We can't say if there is a hardware damage, for sure. But, if you want to flash a new firmware, check this thread. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1894737
If the phone works well after flashing new rom, then all is fine. If not, you can go to Samsung's service center and get it checked.

Is there a way to install the cwm from stock recovery?
As far as I know, you need to connect your phone to pc to install any cwm. try reinstalling the Samsung mobile drivers, and reconnecting the phone in download mode. as long as odin detects phone in download mode, everything else is secondary.
if the internal sd is gone just stick in an external one and try flash a new rom it will install to external sd (if works like the i9000)
have you installed kies or the usb driver only package ?

the sd card work(dont know about internal)and when i go to stock recovery it detects but. ihave installed samsung usb driver
and i had galaxy s3 too so i know how does samsung devices work..i am wondering is ther a way to install clockwork recovery on galaxy sl with stock recovery...cuz when the phone go to download mod windows says unkown device .
i dont know what should i do
with odin 1.85 or 1.83(later versions seems to have some issues with this phone) even if windows doesn't recognize the phone it must be shown as a connected com port (with my original rom the phone has never been recognized by the sistem)
if this dosen't occur i think you cuold try to use hendmall on any linux live distro or adb but with standard recovery i don't know if you can access the phone trought it
the install update from .zip in standard recovery if i remember well dosen't workin this case it gives error probably because the original samsung rom packages are recognized by the SS_DL.dll or any other file inside of it inside all the official roms but this is just my modest opinion i'm not sure at 100% on the ddl story you have nothing to loose anyway so you can give a try with this way

[Q] Restore stock firmware via SD card

I have a Samsung Galaxy S 4G (SGH-T959V) with kernel 2.6.35.7-T959VUVKJ6-CL694130. I took this phone to a place to get it unlocked, but now it does not recognize any SIM card nor can I connect it to my pc or laptop via USB. I have been looking all over for ways to restore the firmware, but I can only find ways that require download mode and a fully functional USB connection. I downloaded and installed the Samsung USB drivers, but I can only get the message that the phone is malfunctioning and remains undetected to Odin and Heimdall.
I am not able to find a reference on how to flash my phone from the SD card and I am not sure which files I need to put onto the SD card to even attempt it. Could someone please help and include links to stock firmware files?

Well, it sounds as if you have two separate issues.
1) No SIM cards are recognized. Do you know if you have an IMEI number still? You can find it by either typing in *#06# in the dialer or by going to Settings, About Phone, and Status. If you have a string of numbers, then you're probably good. If its all 0's or *'s, then your efs partition is probably messed up. In which case things get complicated (especially if you don't have a backup of the efs partition) and just restoring the stock firmware probably won't help.
2) You cannot get your PC to recognize the phone. I assume this means that you cannot transfer any files to it either (ie Mass Storage Device does not work) as well as Odin/Heimdall not recognizing it. I'm assuming you can get into Download Mode?
The first things to try would be a different USB port and/or cable and/or PC. Is there anything showing up in Device Manager? Another thing to try would be to download a LiveCD of a Linux distribution such as Ubuntu or Linux Mint. If it gets recognized there (type in the command "lsusb" at a command line/terminal) then its a problem with the Windows drivers. Don't try this right away unless you have a good internet connection as its a fairly hefty download.
In order to get back to stock from the SD card and without download mode, you will need a custom recovery. While you gave your kernel version, a little more info would be helpful. Are you currently on the stock rom? If yes, do you have a custom recovery or custom kernel installed and are you rooted? If not, which ROM are you using?
Welcome to the forums!
Thanks for the reply. I know this will probably scar me for life, but I just figured out I was putting the SIM card in wrong. Now the USB works great.

[Help] i now have no rom and no computer connection

sitrep
-no rom/os on phone
-computers(multiple) wont find my phone
-since nexus 5 no sd card slot or otg
-twrp working
-was running cm13
main problem. i wanted to install a new rom on my phone so i deleted the old one, so i could put the new one on. then i realised i did not have a new rom on my phone. so i went to connect is to my computer and it could not find it. so now i have a phone that can boot into twrp and nothing else. i did a full wipe of the system.(every single option available in the twrp options)
how do i get my phone back since i cant put a new rom on my phone since i just cant drag a file on it from my computer. since there is no other way i can put files on my phone. it is not because of lack of drivers. since it used to work just fine. i tried multiple computers to be sure. all of which in the past i could access my phone on.
One of the advantages of adb sideload is to solve this kind of situation.
adb push should help too. Your device must be into the recovery mode.
Other solution: download the factory images and flash everything but userdata.
Please only post a thread once, use the below. Thread closed.
no rom and no connection with my computer

Galaxy Tab 2 GT-P5110 Restarting and does not install stock or any other rom.

Hi guys, after many tries, many googling and youtube research, I dicided to share my problem with our community
1. At sunday, my galaxy tab started to restart continuously, It was recharging and I took some time to see.
2. I tried to activate USB DEBUGGING but when It Restarts, it's usb debugging is disabled again.
3. I'm using Stock Rom Again...was;
4.Using Stock Recovery.
5. Tried to install many others recovery's with odin and it seems to be ok but after a restart, its all back to stock recover.
6. Tried to install Stock FW again by Odin and its stuck about 50% FAIL
7. Tried to install CFW and Other Roms by SD Card but it shows a messege "Failed to check Signature" aborting... maybe because of stock recover.
8. Not rooted, usb debugging DISABLE
9 Tried to activate USB Debugging by odin, installing a patch, without success.
10 Samsung KIES does not recognize it in Download Mode.
11. I have samsung drivers installed.
one more information, when I start in recovery Mode, it shows first an android pic and a messege NO COMMAND, then proceeds to RECOVERY(STOCK).
What Can I do?? I Did Everything I can find on Internet. Is there a phisical problem??
Best Regards!!
Seems like a similar issue like mine. Check my post about behavior of my tab 2 7" (P3100) at https://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-tab-2/help/p3100-16gb-bricked-emmc-bug-to-t3707134
If you have symptoms similar to mine or any mentioned in the links in the post, then it seems you have a faulty emmc (internal memory).
The only solution i get to hear up till now is either to get motherboard replaced from service center or get emmc replaced from repair shop or get it jtag'ed.
Other solutions, which would avoid jtag or other service, like dual booting from SD card existed here in xda for p3100 but having stuck in stock recovery brought limitations.
If possible share all things you tried and solution if you found any.

Tks for the answer, I guess we have the same problem, by the way, I already read your topic (lol), Surelly I'm gonna find some technical assistance , the hard thing is to find these kind of stuff, but let's see. I'm gonna share any solution, see ya!
If you install a custom recovery and then reboot to system, it will automatically install the stock recovery again unless you are rooted. To avoid this uncheck the "reboot system when finished" box in odin and after installing the recovery boot directly into it.
Stock recovery is only for installing official updates, not for custom roms. You need a custom recovery for that.

Thanks, but we I tried this too. The issue is possibly our emmc is gone into permanant write protection state as far as i have studied. i tried unchecking the "reboot system when finished" box and even pulling battery after getting odin status as success for recovery as suggested in some threads but nothing helped.
Even if i do a factory reset from recovery all data would remain as is, nothing deleted!
@blankfile99 i agree its hard to find stuff, for me jtag service is more than 500kms from my place!
I am searching for any possibility to boot from external sd card. The thing existed for p3100 (one mentioned here https://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1866675 which allows sd boot) and the other is the blackhawk NEXT https://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2285366 but this is not suitable for our case where no modifications in emmc contents are possible. Devs were able to carry out sd boot for nook color tab .
But again I am stuck trying the dual boot mentioned above at how to flash the sd boot build rom zip file to sd card since stock recovery gives signature verification failure....
Great struggle to keep the tab working...

I had the same issue - here is what I did (I'm writing this as much for me later on, as for you!). This should be fine for your device - but of course, the usual "no guarantees" applies.....
I assume you have downloaded the appropriate files ?
- I used philz_touch_6.57.8-p5100.tar.md5 (google it)
- Odin3 v1.85
1) Install / Start Odin on computer
2) Start device in download mode For my P5100 - I held down power and the UP volume button.
3) Connect USB cable to computer. In ODIN, Click PDA and select the downloaded philz_touch_6.57.8-p5100.tar.md5 (or whatever you're going to use).
4) in ODIN - UNTICK "Auto- Reboot" and Re-Partition is unticked - leave Reset Time ticked.
5) Click start. you should get the "PASS" All threads completed.
6) Disconnect USB cable
7) - important bit - Press and hold down POWER and Volume DOWN together at same time for about 15 seconds. This hopefully will restart into PhilZ mod.
Let me know how it goes.
I have decided to install custom rom on my Samsung tab 2. but it's not connecting with my laptop(not recognized).I think there's a driver problem because in device manager It is showing "Unknown USB DEVICE". Can anyone please send me the Samsung tab 2 gt p5110 driver software or any folders which are use to connect. (I have tried many times but I can't find a good solution )
@Sura 102005
Have you tried reading and following this - also read the older threads
You may need to install Samsung kies
You should also try with a newer / different cable as that could be the issue. I had this same problem and when I swapped to newer cable it solved the issue. Just try different things.

Galaxy S7: Can I flash Firmware purely from SD card?

Hi, new to the forums.
My S7 is playing up (due to toddler getting hold of it and doing who knows what), it just cycles when attempt to boot. Can get to Recovery screen okay. Safe mode not working. I've resigned myself to buying new phone, but, there's some files/photos that I'd like off it.The charging/data port appears damaged, as it won't accept charge, nor recognised by laptop. Wireless charge works fine.
So, I'm wanting to flash the Firmware to see if helps, but, I can't connect via USB. I have the Firmware .zip file on my laptop (that would normally be used via Odin), and a micro-SD adapter. My question is, can I flash the Firmware via the SD card/recovery menu? I've done stacks of googling and got ambiguous answers.
Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks
You cannot flash official Samsung firmware from an SD card; you must use Odin. You CAN flash custom firmware from an SD card, provided you have TWRP installed. The one you should use is https://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-s7/development/rom-dqd2-devbase-v4-1-multi-csc-safe-t3592914 , which is, for the most part, equivalent to stock.

Thanks for that. I assume TWRP is an App that I would have to install and then access on my phone? I'm unable to, as the phone won't boot normally or in Safe mode; all I can do is get to the Recovery Screen. Is there any other possible workaround with that in mind?
Thanks again.
TWRP is not an app; it is a "recovery" substitute, and it must be flashed from Odin. I thought you might have had it installed already.
