[Q] Does CWM 5.0.2.0 backup save phone "setup"? ( Answered )

Hi everyone!
First of all I would like to thank all the people of this incredible community!
Been reading lots of great stuff around here for a while , before get hands to the work, and thanks to all blessed knowledge here I was able to root my Nexus S I9020t .( Had some issues, but that's for another post...)
Read somewhere about ppl losing IMEI and other phone's unique data while messing whit it , so I was wandering if the CWM 5.0.2.0 recovery file that I had created right after rooting my phone(2.3.6) has saved that info's too? Or how can I backup this? Does it save also Kernel and Baseband?

It does save the kernel, but not the baseband. (just make a note of your baseband somewhere just in case, because you can flash other radios to see if it improves the reception)
Clockwork mod does not save your efs folder contents (where your encrypted IMEI I'd stored) but you could flash TWRP (Team Win Recovery Project) which does. Or you could make a backup of your efs folder manually.
Different radios are available in the dev section, and some custom ROMs include automatic efs backup, for example brainmaster's MIUI.

Just to finish, I readied in some places that I can just copy /efs trough root explorer/File Expert , but some said that doesn't work, and that is some kind of bug when doing this , and the right way to doing this would be with ADB /Debug mode... Is that true or can I copy it trough root explorer?

You can copy with root explorer! ADB PULL would just copy the folder contents to your computer directly.
With root explorer copy your efs folder to your sdcard then you can mount USB and copy to your computer.

I shattered my screen and have a replacement phone on the way. Can I do a nandroid backup on my current device and restore it on my new one?

Provided they are the exact same model phone, yes you can just transfer the nandroid backup file from your old phone to your new phone once you get it. For the time being you can just transfer the nandroid backup to your computer and store it there until your new phone comes then just transfer it to your new phone, boot into CWM restore the backup and you should be all set .

If it's a previous ROM you backed up on your gs3, then yes you can. Make sure you root, unlock bootloader, flash recovery once replacement comes of course

I just did this over the weekend. I was able to restore a nandroid to my warranty replacement with no problem at all. I expected there to be some issues with some apps giving me a hard time, but everything worked great. The only things I lost were on the internal sdcard (my phone was hard bricked, so I couldn't back that up).
Like was already said, I had to root the new phone, unlock the bootloader, and install a custom recovery before I could restore the nandroid.

If using TWRP after root make a backup to establish a new backup folder with corresponding serial number to match new phone. Open old backup folder and serial # folder to get to actual backup files. Transfer these files to to new serial# folder.

This worked great, here's what I did.
1. Made a quick backup to generate the proper folder structure and the correct directory name needed for my new phone.
2. Copied the folder that contained the backup I intended to use from my old Hercules S2 to my replacement Hercules S2's TWRP backup directory.
3.Copied the name of the folder of the backup I made in step 1 to the clipboard.
4. deleted the folder I created in step 1.
5. renamed the folder I imported by pasting the name from the clipboard.
6. restored the backup.
Done.

nandroid backups are awesome

Hello,
Can you please help me here. i have a system which got screwed while playing and I am on a screen with no os installed. I just got a nandroid backp file from one of the friendly users on the forums. However on going into TWRP recovery, it does not recognize the backup. it is the same model and service provider as mine.

Because the folder containing the backup is named with the serial number of the old phone. The fasters way to set things up is to make a nandroid backup of the new phone, then move the old backup to the new folder and it will be recognized. Just as a user said previously in this thread.

I doubt that it will work. I have seen several reports that restoring a CWM recovery using TWRP doesn't work, and since Philz is based on CWM I am making the presumption that it will likewise fail. ( I seem to recall that nandroids from older TWRP versions won't reload from newer versions; along the lines of a 2.4.x.x TWRP nandroid using 2.8.x.x TWRP. )

It's clear now. You cannot recover a PhilZ touch recovery from TWRP. :/

I messed up my phone lg g3 sprint ls990 vbc and i have another one same thing thats all stock can we do it in reverse. I made a nandroid but did not know wht i was doing and it says cant back it up because its read only :/ so can i root this one and make a nandroid then some how load it into the other phone ? And when i did make the backup on the messed up one i could of sworn the name of it was like the time n date i thought something like 2001604031117 i just made that up but i thought i seen 20016 on the name.... Well i do have both boxes with serial numbers if anything if its posible slightly point me in the right direction thank u

Questions:
1. If i restore backup with Lollipop, to phone with Marshmallow - will 20G be overwritten and i will end with Lollipop on new G4?

I've been having constant issues with my SIM card connection lately, even though I've replaced the tray. So it must be a MotherBoard issue.
Already got my Nandroid backup sorted which I update every now and again, so now I just have to search for how to root it again, since it was years ago when I last did.

Help please! phone won't boot

So I think I made a stupid mistake.
I was trying to reset google wallet and It hung at 97% and wasn't able to reset. I used the google wallet installer to basically change my build prop to the nexus build prop. I figured it would just overwrite my original wallet app anyway, and once my build prop was changed to the nexus build prop I could simply reset the app from there.
Anyways, phone rebooted and it's stuck in a bootloop and isn't getting passed the boot animation screen. I can get into recovery mode and download mode just fine. I tried restoring a backup I had with CWM and it says "md5 mismatch error". I really have no idea what to do at this point, and would rather not go completely to stock since I know my data is still there. Also I'm concerned to even restore a backup because i'm pretty sure my build prop was changed. I'm also wondering if it would be possible to simply factory reset and flash a new rom on top of it.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

which rom are you using?
extract its build.prop and flash manually (if you know how to create a flashable zip)
if you are using a cm based rom, just reflash the rom without deleting anything..
and avoid using space while renaming backups... it gives md5 mismatch error

No idea how to create the flashable zip. However I did notice a tutorial, I guess now would be a good time to learn.
I'm using darthstalker X1, it's a touchwiz based rom so I can't simply flash the rom again.
I saved all of my backups on my external SD card, can I just simply hook it up to my computer and change the backup names? And is my build.prop included in the backup I made?

renaming the backups again might not fix
i believe to have seen a script for sgy which fixes md5 mismatch error. but you need to give commands from terminal emulator.
if you have more than one backup of the rom, try to restore system only
if any one of them works your phone will boot up again
Edit: your backups contain the build.prop file in system.(partition type).tar
just extract this
and partition type may be rfs or ext4

No idea how that is even done. I think I need windows and ADB in order to extract the build.prop, I have a mac.
I found a restore that worked, I just forgot to rename it and it wasn't too old thankfully.
I really appreciate you helping. And now I know of this mismatch error so I can name my backups correctly.

to extract backups u need a tar extractor
if the backup format is something like .tar.a or .tar.md5 rename it to .tar first
and restoring the system only of your working backup would have booted your phone (in advance restore in recovery)
anyway this was an experience too for you.. so you would be carefull next time

Restoring my system partition only from advanced restore worked perfectly. All my apps stayed how they were and I didn't have to update all of my apps after I restored. Way better than doing a full restore in this case.
Thank you for this advice, this will be a very helpful method to me if I make any mistakes while messing with anything in my system folder. And yes, it was certainly an experience for me.

Have tested it severals times and had no problems.

Double click on the HT43ASF08359 folder

TWRP ----> Backup ----> Phone Marker folder ( Mine is HT43ASF08359, your might be different) Then the file you downloaded from me ----> 2014-04-20--10-11-12 KOT49H release-keys
If you just put the 2014-04-20--10-11-12 KOT49H release-keys file in the backup folder and not the Phone Marker folder then it won't show up when you go to restore the backup.

Anyone using this backup has to remember to change the phone marker folder to the serial number of their own phone or TWRP won't recognize it. When you press restore it'll be completely blank. Once you make the phone marker folder your own phone's serial number, it'll work like a charm with no issues.

Make sure you do a Factory Reset, Wipe Cache, Wipe Dalvik and do the restore again. Should boot fine after that.

This is nice to have. I made a Nandroid of my stock setup but I had already removed a ton of bloatware so it wasn't really a STOCK nandroid. I'm downloading this just so I have it.
But, could you post an MD5 sum of the zipped file that way I know I got a good download? It failed several times before downloading completely and I wanna be sure it's legit.

Nobody is gonna yell at you... Lol.
This is a Nandroid backup of the full stock rom that comes on the Verizon M8 out of the box. No modifications made to it at all. It is the exact software you would get on your M8 if you just bought it at the store (minus stock recovery and radios of course) If you don't know what a Nandroid backup is, it's a backup of the software on your device using a custom recovery like TWRP. Say you flashed a custom rom and were having problems with it but didn't have your own backup of the stock software. You could download this and use TWRP to restore it and you would be back to stock again. AOSP is something else. AOSP is Android without Manufacturer skins like Sense (HTC devices), or Touchwiz (Samsung devices), the only devices that come with AOSP installed on them are Nexus devices. Everything else is Android that's slightly modified. Hope this explains it.

I just extracted part of the zip inside the folder your talking about which the folder I extracted was named with the release keys an then no need to rename anything. That's what I did anyways.

I think I know what you mean? I already use twrp so when I download this just go to my external sd card (where I keep my backups), open twrp, open folder with HTC and I guess my serial number, then inside this folder is where I place this backup correct? Thanks.

Extract the folder From zip I circled in 1st pic is all you need
Then place it In the folder I show in other pic an you r all set. No rename anything then flash the restore as normal.

Thanks for helping everyone out. I tried to make the instructions as detailed as possible.
Again if the link goes down let me know so I can add a new one.
Making a Pure Stock Rom as we speak. Keeping it close to Stock as possible but with all of the unneeded Files removed (Verizon/Amazon/Keyboard Language/ect..... Adding a small amount of tweaks/files to the system and thats it. I not sure if anyone has use Scotts Roms in the past (CleanRom) But it is going to be like that for each update to come. Should have it up in the next couple of days.

For some reason if I don't change the serial number my TWRP doesn't see it in restore. Had the same problem a few times yesterday.

So you download the zip. Open zip it an go find the folder with build keys in the name. You extract that to downloads folder then place the file you just extracted in your normal twrp file path. You still have to rename? If you do it correct there is nothing to rename to match your phone. Not saying your wrong. I just never have had to rename anything when restoring someone backup.

[Q] Problems recovering a TWRP Image

Hi - I recently had my OnePlus One replaced under warranty for a hardware failure.
Before sending my old OPO out for replacement, I did a full TWRP backup. I copied the entire TWRP directory to my PC, including the .twrps file.
Now that I have the replacement phone back, I am trying to recover my previous image. I copied the entire TWRP directory back to my OPO, but TWRP Recovery Mode doesn't list any available recoveries to restore.
How can I access my previous recoveries and restore them?

That's because your new phone has a different serial number than your backup. Try doing this:
Make a new backup on your phone
Go into /sdcard/TWRP/BACKUPS and see that there's two folders. This is the serial number of your phone. Enter the one with the old backup.
Move the folder inside into the other folder
(Optional) Delete the new backup you made.
