Provided they are the exact same model phone, yes you can just transfer the nandroid backup file from your old phone to your new phone once you get it. For the time being you can just transfer the nandroid backup to your computer and store it there until your new phone comes then just transfer it to your new phone, boot into CWM restore the backup and you should be all set .

If it's a previous ROM you backed up on your gs3, then yes you can. Make sure you root, unlock bootloader, flash recovery once replacement comes of course
Samsung Galaxy S3

I just did this over the weekend. I was able to restore a nandroid to my warranty replacement with no problem at all. I expected there to be some issues with some apps giving me a hard time, but everything worked great. The only things I lost were on the internal sdcard (my phone was hard bricked, so I couldn't back that up).
Like was already said, I had to root the new phone, unlock the bootloader, and install a custom recovery before I could restore the nandroid.

If using TWRP after root make a backup to establish a new backup folder with corresponding serial number to match new phone. Open old backup folder and serial # folder to get to actual backup files. Transfer these files to to new serial# folder.

This worked great, here's what I did.
1. Made a quick backup to generate the proper folder structure and the correct directory name needed for my new phone.
2. Copied the folder that contained the backup I intended to use from my old Hercules S2 to my replacement Hercules S2's TWRP backup directory.
3.Copied the name of the folder of the backup I made in step 1 to the clipboard.
4. deleted the folder I created in step 1.
5. renamed the folder I imported by pasting the name from the clipboard.
6. restored the backup.
Done.
Sweet.
Thanks.

nandroid backups are awesome

Hello,
Can you please help me here. i have a system which got screwed while playing and I am on a screen with no os installed. I just got a nandroid backp file from one of the friendly users on the forums. However on going into TWRP recovery, it does not recognize the backup. it is the same model and service provider as mine.

Because the folder containing the backup is named with the serial number of the old phone. The fasters way to set things up is to make a nandroid backup of the new phone, then move the old backup to the new folder and it will be recognized. Just as a user said previously in this thread.
P.S. Sorry for being so late.

Hey guys,
Here are silly but important questions:
1. Can I use the nandroid backup from PhilZ touch recovery and restore it with TWRP?
2. To which folder do I have to put the nandroid backup file?

I doubt that it will work. I have seen several reports that restoring a CWM recovery using TWRP doesn't work, and since Philz is based on CWM I am making the presumption that it will likewise fail. ( I seem to recall that nandroids from older TWRP versions won't reload from newer versions; along the lines of a 2.4.x.x TWRP nandroid using 2.8.x.x TWRP. )

It's clear now. You cannot recover a PhilZ touch recovery from TWRP. :/

I have made an nandroid backup from LG G4 H815 with Android 5.1
Now i've got a new LG G4 H815 with Android 20g
Questions:
1. If i restore backup with Lollipop, to phone with Marshmallow - will 20G be overwritten and i will end with Lollipop on new G4?
2. what will happen with IMEI; will it be changed?
Or should i use only some of partions from the old G4?
Should the TWRP installed on new G4 be the same version as on old G4 (2.8.07)? Or i can install the latest 3.02 on the new one
I have following partitions:
boot, system, system image, Data, Cache, Recovery, EFS

This is great news!!!
I've been having constant issues with my SIM card connection lately, even though I've replaced the tray. So it must be a MotherBoard issue.
Already got my Nandroid backup sorted which I update every now and again, so now I just have to search for how to root it again, since it was years ago when I last did.

[Q] Go backup restored problem

I hope it is the right forum to ask.
I've just flashed my GS2 to JB 4.1.2 and Rooted.
Before that I made a mistake and backup my files with Go backup pro.
Now I can't restored because it is not find my backup files on the path..
I have searched in your forum vertically and horizontally and I found some thread about this problem but without a solution.
Could someone please advice me how to restore my files back?
Thank you very much.

I also backup my files using Go Backup pro. The backups by default are in external sdcard ( sdcard1). After flashing a rom you reinstall Gobackup Pro from Play Store. Launch the app and you will see the two tabs onscreen : backup tab and restore tab. Just click the restore tab and you see a prompt showing all backup files. Choose the latest files and click restore.

I tried it and still I don't have any backups on screen.. :crying:
See which storage has been set as default. ( under settings - storage)
If you backed up to SD and now internal memory is made as default, it won't show the files. (as it searches only internal memory)

GoBackup doesnt recognize old backup files problem solved!
OK...got something for all of u punks like me out there. After installing new ROM i couldn't restore my backuped upfiles with GoBackup coz app couldn't recognize or find old backup files. I really had some important stuff there and wasn't intending to just give up. I have read many forums but everyone said to just give it up and forget it. Said hell no! So after few days of trying (reinstalling rom, gobackup, deleting caches and god knows what else i have tried) i came a cross of this lame idea . I actually opened GoBackup files on my GoogleDrive(so.... i had backup but app couldn't find it or recognize it to be able to restore it) and checked what i had installed. Made a list and installed all apps i had when i was making backup. Then i installed apps and made backup via gobackup. And here it goes... i copyed old backup files in latest backup directory , renamed old backup files using names from new files. So u get your old backup using file names of latest backup. Now app will recognize your old backup coz u renamed them. App thinks your old backup is actually latest backup. U just go into app and restore your things.
So:
1.Check out your GoBackup directory where u have your backup files (which after rooting app doesn't find or recognize) and make a list of apps u wanna restore
2.Install apps from your list
3.Make new backup of all apps u wanna restore later(old ones u had installed)
4.Now open backed up files that u wanna restore and open latest backup directory and rename old files using names from new backup files.
5.After renaming old backup files, move them into latest backup directory replacing latest backup files with renamed ones.
6.Go to GoBackup app and make restore of latest backup which is actually old one .
Found an easy solution
1. Connect your phone via cable.
2. Open SD card, locate GOBackup folder and press copy.
3. Go to local memory and press paste.
Now open GOBackup on your device, and its a miracle, all your backup there

I didn't have much luck in Windows but Nandroid Manager (sorry I can't post Playstore links I'm a noob) allows you to look inside Nandroid backups (including TWRP 2.5 backups which don't work with Titanium Backup, so far at least). I was able to look inside the compressed data.ext4 and extract individual files. If your backup is compressed it will take a little bit of time, so keep that in mind.
Actually, I'm not trying to look inside Nandroid backups but rather the system.img from this:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2307439
As for the OTA update, it will fail unless the stock apk's are what came with the ROM instead of the most current version from Google Play Store.

Gotcha, sorry I misunderstood. Why don't you create a backup and then just restore your system to complete using the Droid Razr HD Utility so you can get the new radio drivers, etc. and then just restore your backup?
That's a good idea but wouldn't restoring Droid RAZR HD Utility and then restoring the nandroid backup just overwrite all the apk's with the ones from my backup again?
Actually the last time before I ran Droid RAZR HD, I did create a nandroidbackup using CWM but I remember while I did it in May, it had a date/timestamp for April so I'm worried if I did a nandroidbackup, it will just overwrite that one as it's not using the current date/time for some reason. Does nandroidbackup backup the radio as well because I did modify that to work with AT&T/T-Mobile even though I use Verizon Wireless.

Anyone using this backup has to remember to change the phone marker folder to the serial number of their own phone or TWRP won't recognize it. When you press restore it'll be completely blank. Once you make the phone marker folder your own phone's serial number, it'll work like a charm with no issues.

Make sure you do a Factory Reset, Wipe Cache, Wipe Dalvik and do the restore again. Should boot fine after that.
This is nice to have. I made a Nandroid of my stock setup but I had already removed a ton of bloatware so it wasn't really a STOCK nandroid. I'm downloading this just so I have it.
But, could you post an MD5 sum of the zipped file that way I know I got a good download? It failed several times before downloading completely and I wanna be sure it's legit.
Thanks

Nobody is gonna yell at you... Lol.
This is a Nandroid backup of the full stock rom that comes on the Verizon M8 out of the box. No modifications made to it at all. It is the exact software you would get on your M8 if you just bought it at the store (minus stock recovery and radios of course) If you don't know what a Nandroid backup is, it's a backup of the software on your device using a custom recovery like TWRP. Say you flashed a custom rom and were having problems with it but didn't have your own backup of the stock software. You could download this and use TWRP to restore it and you would be back to stock again. AOSP is something else. AOSP is Android without Manufacturer skins like Sense (HTC devices), or Touchwiz (Samsung devices), the only devices that come with AOSP installed on them are Nexus devices. Everything else is Android that's slightly modified. Hope this explains it.

Again if the link goes down let me know so I can add a new one.
Making a Pure Stock Rom as we speak. Keeping it close to Stock as possible but with all of the unneeded Files removed (Verizon/Amazon/Keyboard Language/ect..... Adding a small amount of tweaks/files to the system and thats it. I not sure if anyone has use Scotts Roms in the past (CleanRom) But it is going to be like that for each update to come. Should have it up in the next couple of days.

So you download the zip. Open zip it an go find the folder with build keys in the name. You extract that to downloads folder then place the file you just extracted in your normal twrp file path. You still have to rename? If you do it correct there is nothing to rename to match your phone. Not saying your wrong. I just never have had to rename anything when restoring someone backup.

So is there away to use this as an upgrade to the new firmware without destroying all the apps and settings?

[Q] Problems recovering a TWRP Image

Hi - I recently had my OnePlus One replaced under warranty for a hardware failure.
Before sending my old OPO out for replacement, I did a full TWRP backup. I copied the entire TWRP directory to my PC, including the .twrps file.
Now that I have the replacement phone back, I am trying to recover my previous image. I copied the entire TWRP directory back to my OPO, but TWRP Recovery Mode doesn't list any available recoveries to restore.
How can I access my previous recoveries and restore them?
Thanks,
¿GJ?
That's because your new phone has a different serial number than your backup. Try doing this:
Make a new backup on your phone
Go into /sdcard/TWRP/BACKUPS and see that there's two folders. This is the serial number of your phone. Enter the one with the old backup.
Move the folder inside into the other folder
(Optional) Delete the new backup you made.
Hope this helps.

I want to restore an old twrp backup I had made some time ago (with an earlier version of twrp) and moved to my pc. So I copied that backup from my pc to the twrp folder in the nexus 5. But when I reboot into TWRP, twrp lists other backups, but not the one I just copied back into its folder.
How can I get twrp to see and restore that nandroid backup?
Thank you.
My first thought is - is it the same device? I had a similar problem when I got a replacement phone, and the solution was simply to rename the old backup with the new device's id.
Yes, the same device, but different versions of twrp.
SOLVED.
Entirely my fault. I needed to move the backup file down to the next subfolder. Once I got it into the correct subfolder TWRP found it fine.
