I am running stock ICS but rooted on Skyrocket. In the past few month or so I have been having issues with viewing some pictures and playing some videos taken with the phone. Many of my videos will play for a few seconds and then stop with a message popping up saying "unable to play video"
As far as my pictures go, I can view them all in the gallery in thumbnail view but when selecting a picture and scrolling through them full size in gallery several pictures simply won't show up and instead a small gray square with the white silhouette of shoulders and a round head appear in the middle of the box with jagged "tear" at the upper right corner.
I have cleared the cache in the gallery, media and camera apps. I have uninstalled the battery and rebooted several times. I have tried other apps to play these videos or show the pictures and same thing. I have done a factory reset as well.
I have a new Sansdisk Ultra 16 gb class 10 micro sd card which I unmounted and mounted several times and removed and inserted several times to make sure it was making good contact. I have also done a hard reset on the phone to return it to the stock ICS with not root and still have the same problem.
Any help would be appreciated.
FYI....my phone has been laggy as hell with the new ICS stock update, using swype and Apex as a launcher. It is driving me nuts....almost to the point of going back to 2.3.5, maybe getting an sIII or maybe getting the dreaded Iphone 5 which I am not sure I can adapt to since I am so use to certain apps and widgets that are not available on the Iphone.
Thanks,
Dave

Sounds like a hardware issue if it happens on both custom and stock roms.....

which in recovery are you on, update to latest sk8's or twrp, make a backup and use titu to backup your apps.
perform a factory reset from within recovery, it will make it stock again, cant remember if rooting sticks but should be fine, its easy to reroot anyways, you will be back to stock apps only, anything you installed will be gone.
if still having issues return to stock using odin, if still having probs you have bad hw

I would have to agree with jyazzie. It sounds just like an issue I had with my original SR. Camera would FC, or if it did open it would not show anything on the screen, except for black.
However if I went to video first THEN changed back to camera, it would work, but would take grainy pics. I contacted AT&T and let them know what was going on. After having gone through 4 hard resets with those scripted "techs", they finally decided that it was a hardware issue.
They sent me a new phone and I sent the old one back in with the caveat that they let me know what happened. It took them a few months but finally I received a message saying that the circuit board for the camera had over heated and melted some of the solder away. Apparently this is a known issue with some of the first and second run models, that when upgraded to ICS caused the solder to melt away.
My recommendation would be to contact AT&T and inform them that you spoke with Samsung about the device (if you have already) , and that they informed you to contact them for a warranty replacement.
I'll try and keep it clear and simple.
I had 2 Nexus 5's. One RMA'd and one replacement device. I did a TWRP backup of my original phone and then dropped it onto the new Nexus and restored it. The modifications I had on it were 2 exposed modules, Keepchat and Snapshare, the Nexus 5 bitrate increaser camera app v1.3, and an older version of snapchat (4.0.10) so I could use snapshare. I install some 4.4.1 camera apk from an XDA thread, (don't think it matters what it is and i'll tell you why soon.) and then powered my device back on. Tried to use snapchat, and when I hold down the button to record a video snapchat says "Video recording failed". I figured maybe it was just trouble from my sloppy transfer of data from one Nexus 5 to another so I factory reset the phone, flashed a complete stock image, put the ORIGINAL modifications I had used back onto this phone because they had been working for months, and snapchat still has the same problem. What gives? I figured a complete wipe of the phone would clear away any problems, and I know it's not the modifications I'm using now because they had worked fine before. Any ideas on how to get this working again? Even with Xposed uninstalled and a stock camera APK snapchat still won't record videos.
Edit: Turns out video recording with camera app won't work either.
Hello XDA-Community!
Im having some trouble with my new Nexus 5. The screen randomly starts to "shake" sometimes when im using it. I dont know if i can explain it well ^^', if you search "Nexus 5 screen shaking" on YouTube you find similar results. But my Problem is not so hard like the Problem of them. Actually my Nexus 5 shakes sometimes when I turn it into Landscape mode or use an emulator (DraStic). It also happened once while i was trying out Minecraft on the Nexus. Mostly it works perfectly but if it happens, it annoys me. I dont know if that happened on previous versions^^, cuz when I received my Nexus, i just "restored" all Apps with that function that u get when you first turn on you'r device after typing in your Google Account. Then i just updated and updated. First to Android 4.4.2 i think, then to 4.4.3, then to 4.4.4 and then finally to Android 5.0 Lollipop. After every Update my Apps were "optimized" for the new Version, guess that's good. I tried to clear the Cache but nothing Special happened. I just hope that thats a Software Problem and not a Hardware Problem, due that Lollipop has some bugs now.
Could you help me fixing it^^, hope you can ;D!
Regards,
Felix
So I bought the BLUE Qiku 360 N5s and found how to Root it from GizChina.it BUT for some reason whenever I flash the root developer rom (TO ROOT PHONE) that they provided, my phones camera gets messed up. Now heres the weird thing, I bought my girlfriend the same phone but in BLACK and followed there instructions and her camera works fine. Only my phone for some unknown reason doesn't work the the freaking developer rom. Its frustrating because I want to get rid of all the CHINESE bloatware with the custom rom they provided (which works) BUT I need TWRP to flash it and I need to ROOT my phone before I can install TWRP. Some please send me some guidance cause I'm stressed and desperate!!!! THANK YOU

Hi there,
I recently bought the same phone, (Black version), and was finally able to root it after a month of struggling. Other than the camera not functioning, exactly what problems are you experiencing? You were able to fully root your GFs black version? Unlocked bootloader confirmed? Let me know. I'll give you whatever help I can.

Can you please tell me what you used to root it? Thats the only problem, after flashing the devrom the rear camera stops working and the front camera works but is grainy and all the functions for the camera stops working (flash beauty etc), I'm able to press on them but it doesn't do anything. The camera is still able to take a picture though. When I press the button to change it to the rear camera it freezes and stops working. I've tried downloading a 3rd party camera app but it doesn''t fix it eithier. Camera is still grainy on the app and the camera flip function doesn't work as well. Also I can't login to snapchat with this phone. I think its because the phone has a built in screen recorder so snapchat won't let me login. Can you help me with that as well? Thank you!!!

I unlocked the bootloader via fastboot after flashing Giz China's dev-rom. The only real roadblock to rooting it is having the developer software to bypass 360's proprietary bootloader restrictions. Once the dev-rom is flashed, you should be able to utilize all of the adb and fastboot resources as you would for a non-Chinese phone.
Now that you've described your camera problems a bit more, I have to say that it sounds like a compatibility issue. I can't be certain without testing it, but the dev-rom has a lot less bells and whistles than the stock rom, so it's quite possible that the dev-rom is missing the necessary files for running all of the extra camera filters. The dev-rom is just a temporary fix to allow you to alter the bootloader, and isn't ideal for daily use.
I recommend you try reflashing it so that you can get root access, or if you already have root access then simply flash a custom rom to replace it, and then see if your camera is still having the same issues. Don't forget that you'll need to flash SuperSU or Magisk or whatever SU app you're familiar with after flashing the rom. Also, if you try reflashing the dev-rom with 360's software, I recommend doing so via a Windows7 installation. I initially tried it via multiple Windows 10 machines and it failed horribly in all of them. It worked in a matter of minutes in each Windows7 machine though. Go figure.
GizChina also has a custom rom for the 360 n5s, not sure if you're aware of it or not. You can find it here:
ttps://rom.gizchina.it/360-n5s/
You might need to utilize Google translate if you can't read Italian .
Let me know if that helps or if you have more questions.
Yeah oddly it doesn't work with the blue phones. Only the black phone worked. I have 3 N5s's 2 are blue and 1 is black. The black one is completely fine and the two blue phones camera stops working after flashing the DevRom. I don't think theres anything I can do.

Have you tried flashing the custom ROM I suggested? There's no harm in trying. Just backup your files with TWRP, flash the custom ROM, if it works great, if not you can restore the Dev-rom and your old files.

The DevRom works and roots my phone but messes up my camera on the blue phone. The custom rom also works but it doesn't fix the problem I have with the camera... Keep in mind that I did this with a black N5s and it worked perfectly fine. But when I try it with 2 different blue N5s's they both encounter the problem with the camera. Only the black phone works properly. I have also flashed the blue phones ROM back to the manufacturers and it fixed the problem that the DevRom created with the cameras.

If that's true and the custom rom has the exact same issues running the camera filters then the only thing it could be is a lack of support built into the roms for those camera functions, or those functions are dependent on an app that has been removed from the new roms, but exists in the stock rom.
In order for either of those to be true though, it means that your black phone and your blue phone should have different camera functions, because the roms aren't changing, the only difference is your phone model (blue or black), so either you've accidentally erased something needed, or there is a series of support files that you could try installing back into the blue phone.
I wouldn't know which files though lol, you'd have to do some research. I doubt you will find much guidance on it by searching online. Your best bet would be to compare the file differences between your black phone and your blue phone to see which camera app files are on the blue one but not the black one (on the stock rom) and then try reinstalling all of those files and their support trees once you flash the dev-rom/custom-rom.
That is what I would do next if it was my phone.
Okay what about the snapchat problem where it doesn't let you login because of the built in screen recording feature in the phone?

I've also noticed that the black phones kernal version is 3.10.84 while the blue phones kernal version is 3.10.84-perf (also the snapchat problem on both blue and black n5s)
Hello,
i have a SM-G930F with Android 8.0, i did CF-Auto-Root as i wanted to stay as close to stock Samsung firmware. After that i have noticed the phone to be a bit slower but nothing extreme. My main problem is with the Oculus app, when i put it on the Samsung Gear VR, it is lagging on the videos and when i run the Samsung VR app via Oculus it does the same thing (plays sound and not video, image is stuck while video is playing, slow video seeking, response time in general is having latency) It was working fine before the root. Has anyone else noticed the same behavior? Any suggestions?
Thank you in advance
I flashed Superman ROM and it got fixed.
Can you delete this thread? i dont seem to find the option somewhere
