Hey xda, I want to replace the screen myself. The glass is broken but the LCD/Touch works. Which ones of these digitizers is the best? (I live in Italy btw).
http://m.ebay.it/itm/191549384595
http://m.ebay.it/itm/221865499234
I have found these two. The first one costs more but I think it's better built: the other one costs less but comes with a repairing kit, even though I think it's the worst choice. It looks like the build quality is worse, there seems to be no glue on parts like the front facing camera housing. What do you guys think? Which one looks the best? It's worth noting that I have screwdrivers, so that repair kit coming with the UK piece might not do any good. (I have screwdrivers, a guitar pick, a lighter guitar pick, and my fingernails. Is it enough?)
If you know of cheaper places (not US tho) where to get a good digitizer, let me know too!

I just dropped my diamond by accident while running to my car to avoid the rain =="....
It was in a PDA case, but it still somehow popped out of the case and got scratched up...
So I am in DIRE NEED OF A REPLACEMENT HOUSING!!!
lucky for me, the only damaged parts were the metal rim around the front side of the phone and the battery cover...
I am thinking of just getting an extended battery so i can get a new battery cover with it as well.
But I can't find the Replacement part for the rim around the front of the phone...
I took a lot at the phone and it seems easy enough to replace the rim....but i need to find the part first....
Please guys, any help will be very much appreciated....
Really need this housing replacement...can't stand looking at my scratched up diamond =(
phones still in its early stages so gonna be hard to get hold of housing so quick. Usually best place is here
http://cnn.cn/shop/touch-diamond-c-277_533.html
but they only have screen and back plate at the moment
just be patient a little bit longer.
does that shop deliver quickly??
would it be possible to ask for oem parts directly from htc...?
i talked it over with htc canada today and it may cost upwards 100 CDN to fix the cosmetic damage =(
no insurance?
uh no...i've never insured a phone before....
never thought it would the belt clip would break and let the phone fall and get scratched =="
argh...
any ideas on what to do...
should just take out the rim and touch it up myself ^^"....
oh i've got an idea =D!!!!
I can buy a dummy phone and replace it directly that way...
right.....?

In a very rare occasion you can use dummy phones.
Mostly the inside is completely different, no way of using those dummies for housing parts.
Haven't seen a dummy Diamond yet, so I can't tell if it is usable, but mostly HTC dummies aren't usable.

i'm just lokoing to replace the outer rim on the front side of the phone and the battery cover....?
so maybe its possible...
ill drop by a local mall and see if its possible i guess....
loads of dummy diamond phones on ebay the last time i check it out.
i wouldn't say loads...
i saw a total of 4 =P lol
average 20-30 dollars CDN
which is fine for me if i can use it as housing and battery cover replacement
anyways heading out to check the dummy model =)
it doesn't work =(
its one giant piece, so i can't really take it apart to replace the piece i want...
How hard is it to take apart the diamond?
The invisible shield really stuffed up my screen. I can see parts flaked off the screen (looks like a thin protection layer) which is believe is the touch sensor itself. It has not affected the use of the phone but looks ugly.
EDIT: Home from work and did a search and found this: http://www.pdacenter.ru/razborka/razbor-htc-touch-diamond/
Looks like a lot of work to get to the digitizer.
wow amazing find...was looking for a page like this...
aw man...the housing is one whole piece from what i can tell from the last picture...guess a DIY housing replacement is not really gonna be easy....
i'm gonna ask HTC for an estimate....
just minor cosmetic damage on mine on the corners so nothing too huge but it pains me to see it every time =(
at least this seems a bit easier than fixing the iphone....its so much work to put in a new digitizer cause of the way the housing is built
Looking for the Telus Black rear cover
If anyone finds a place that is selling the black rear battery cover for the CDMA version of the phone i would be interested.

How much are you looking at paying?
I use a cover from Platinum Communications, it's quite good, not perfect, but it's quite up there.
Pros
-Doesn't stick in your pocket
-Doesn't change size dramatically with the temp.
-Doesn't flex and warp
-Extremely durable
-Doesn't mark easy
Cons
-Doesn't cover the rear camera as much as I'd like
-I had to modify the charger port hole to make it a little larger rather than a perfect fit
-Rough edges on the side
But other than that, I rate it highly.
Trying searching for Sensation Housing Cover Case on amazon.
I bought this one grey/black back plate from amazon, not as good as the oem, but it does the job. =)
I've been looking around for a replacement housing for my G2, it's pretty knocked up (bought it 2nd hand), had a look at faulty used phones and official replacement housing, but both are surprisingly expensive (you wouldn't believe how much people pay for an old waterdamaged phone with an unrepairable screen and dents left right and centre.
Anyway, I've seen a full housing (minus screen/ glass) by Ecell which is (quote) "New Genuine ... For HTC Desire Z", previously it was £300ish on eBay, I've now seen it for under a tenner (still direct from Ecell).
Thing is it's black, so the use of the word "genuine" is questionable (do they mean "genuine" Ecell, or "genuine" HTC?), although in the description they say "Official HTC product". Also I've never bought anything Ecell before.
I just wanted to know if any of you guys have bought one of these replacement housings, or anything from Ecell before? Feedback would be greatly appreciated .
Best I have found is about 40$ for a full housing replacement OEM, if considered it the past but haven't been able to justify that just for aesthetics. I recently stopped using my dock and just use one of the original T-Mobile cases I fond for a few bucks (thick rubber, bulky but real nice) since then I gave up on pretty.
Never bought from ecell before so I couldn't attest to their reputation
Sent from my Nexus 7 using xda premium
I've seen the E-CELL product on eBay for about 10 pounds and it seems a good price for it.
However, while I'm not sure of its' quality, for that value I'd be willing to take a risk and see what's it about.
@demkantor Thanks, according to Google $40 = £25, and official HTC housing goes for around £30, which is absurd 'cause that's well over half of what I paid for my G2. I don't fancy a case, the Vision is already thick and heavy without one (can you even use the keyboard with a case on? )
@geojoking Yep, that's the one I found, previously £300 (wtf?!). Unless anyone highly cautions against Ecell I might go for it, besides as you say it is less than £10 so probably worth the risk. Anyway, if I do get it I can post a review here !
you can slide it fine, i would prefer not to use one but im running low on spare phones at the moment and i dont mind the bulk, but yes definitely bulkier!
i believe the original leaked photos of the g2/dz were of a black model or at least real dark grey. supposedly there is some mystic black version that is near impossible to get a hold of with a different bootloader then all the others, it had a different name but fell under the vision still i believe... cant remember much about it
so that would mean its possible these are genuine and being they were once 300 that may mean that ecell had them since the very beginning as when phones first come out parts like this tend to cost more than a new phone! they could have gotten the original casting and colors prerelease to the public... just a thought
either way for that price go for it, if it turns out not to fit not a huge loss, if it works great then you have one of the few(if any) black visions!
i would suggest getting some 3m adhesive tape (2mm?) as moving the digitizer will require this as well as holding down the flex. let me know how it turns out! maybe ill try it myself
I saw these a while back, almost bought it but was sceptical of the quality. Really wish I did now..
I got this A8-50 (AH5500-H) for my Mum and managed to find a nice case for it but can't find any decent affordable screen protectors for it. It's the model with two speakers, one at each end and some of the protectors only seem to have a cutout for one speaker. I generally prefer matte ones to help reduce glare a bit but they're not that easy to find for this device.
I've bought some cheap ones for other devices before but they've been nasty, with horrible friction on the fingers when trying to use the device and not applying very easily or well, so I don't want to waste money trying to get lucky. I was hoping to find something decent for around £4 or £8 for two.
I really want a pack of at least two, in case I mess up applying the first one or just as a spare for future. This one's cheap enough to buy two but I've not come across kwmobile before, so they might not be any better than the e-bay ones.
http://www.amazon.co.uk/kwmobile®-p...mputers_2?ie=UTF8&refRID=0VMV0GGT0ZJPEZZH1A14
This on the other hand is quite expensive at £11.69 for two but I think I at least recognise the brand, although there's only one review so not enough information to know if they're actually any good
http://www.amazon.co.uk/atFoliX-Scr...sr=8-8&keywords=lenovo+a8-50+screen+protector
Xtremeguard I think are OK and this seems like a good price for three but coming from the US I'll have no recourse if it turns out to be rubbish as it will cost more to send it back than it's worth. It also says they have a "slightly grippy feel" which sounds like the nasty ones I've used before on other devices.
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/3-Pack-Cl...937?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item5b06b98ad9
The fact that they're selling this single one for more than that pack of 3 above, makes me concerned that the latter might not be very good and anyway, this has to be applied with water, which I don't fancy either.
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Genuine-X...952?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item5b06b97f30
I was thinking maybe I could just get any 8" protector and cut it down on either side so that it stops short of the speakers and just covers the actual screen area but I don't want to have to trim the other two sides as well if they're just a little bit too big, as it's fiddly enough using a Stanley knife or scalpel to cut large bits off, let alone taking small strips off.
So can anyone suggest something suitable and decent as I've had this tablet for a while now but don't want to give it to my Mum until the screen's properly protected as she's not the most careful person with her devices!
I'm still struggling to find something suitable, if anyone can help.
I think I should get a tempered glass protector now but it's no easier to find those than the other kind for this device.
I found this one on e-bay but it's not clear if it has the cutouts at both ends for the speakers
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Premium-0...Domain_0&var=500464524966&hash=item2eda657ac9
This one does have the cutouts but doesn't appear to be come with alcoholic wipe or dust removal stickers to use before fitting it
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/311271650534?_trksid=p2055119.m1438.l2649&ssPageName=STRK:MEBIDX:IT
(This looks to be the same thing: http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/...act_title_2?ie=UTF8&psc=1&smid=A1ATVJM7R78CKU)
Neither seller has replied to messages asking them about the products and if possible, I'd rather get something from the UK to avoid having to wait weeks for delivery, as I really want to give this tablet to my Mum ASAP.
Has anyone done a replacement on their own? I'm hoping someone's done it and can say simple or watch out for X. I've got a heat gun, all kinds of tools, and have watched the teardowns.
I dropped it a month ago and just the corner was cracked, now most of the back is a spider web.
HTC branded ones are $80 on eBay and aren't the kind of thing you want to go cheap on. Thanks for any feedback.
I too need to know. Didn't even play with it for 6 hours and it tumbled and completely shattered. From the vids, it doesn't look too difficult but ya, if there is anything to look out for let us know. Thanks!
In the teardown videos you can usually see what you have to look for, like if there's something attached to it (NFC antenna for example).
Watch a few different ones and you should be good.
The only advice i can give from fixing a lot of phones is, to not rely on the adhesive which usually comes already placed on the part.
Buy some special liquid glue for it! It will save you a lot of headaches, keep it dust free and preserve the waterproof feature.
With the delievered adhesive you will soon have dust in your camera, and if you don't clean every bit of the old adhesive before
replacing it, sooner or later it will get loose.

Will do. I have a pile of parts for phone repair and glue tape. If a liquid glue is really better for the water sealing, is there a specific phrase to punch into Amazon to get the stuff you use?
Oddly enough, the part was $80 on eBay and they all disappeared. There's only $40 'used' but cosmetically perfect ones. I got the cheaper one and will be happy.
Thanks for the feedback. It should arrive this coming week. I'll post results.

There's no amazon where i live
Quick google search should give you some options
Used ones do not come with the double tape adhesive on the back and I'm not sure you can find that anywhere to buy. If you use some kind of liquid glue, which I did on an S7, because the phone is sealed, all the vapors will affect the internal components and you need to reopen the phone in order to clean them ( mine had a problem with the light on the menu button ) which will result in breaking the glass back.
You have two options:
1. buy some glue that is made specifically for this
2. buy some double sided tape ( best option ).
Good luck !
It actually came with the factory tape on and an extra set of 3m tape. It was exactly the same as the stuff used by the factory. The only area not covered was a section of the lower right of the phone. I cut up some of the extra and stuck it down. Heat it all up and its new again.
Zero complaints, easy. Thanks for the pointers!

I got it from eBay. KK Parts was the vendor. I got a screen a few weeks later from them because they sent what they described. They were honest with a small scratch on the screen I got a few weeks later. When I looked at eBay vendors (all China), a lot had taken pictures from another post. KK was one of 2 or 3 who showed pictures of what you were buying.
Plus... the rear glass had the factory waterproof tape mounted on the back and they gave extra strips. I'd buy from them again
Hi Jimbob,
Do you have a link to the ebay page? I am having trouble finding that vendor.
Thanks for your help.

That's just the glue mate, not the cover, but yea I can fix it.
HTC U11 Life back cover repair
I've seen some repair video online and it seems not difficult. I had a HTC U11 and crack on back cover accidentally, bought a new cover from witrigs and replace it myself, it's quite easy than I thought, just follow the tutorial and heat up for enough time.
