how will the new nexus phone cost ?

i want to know how much the new nexus phone will be. ive heard that it will be the nexus 5 and i couldn't agree more as most phones now are getting bigger. GBP preferred or USD not fussed?

First off: I hope you know that the 5 in Nexus 5 has nothing to do with the screen size. It is like the iPhone 5, S4, etc.
Many theories exist. One of which is that the N5 will be a slightly modified version of the LG G2. The G2, AFAIK, is an extremely expensive piece of hardware, so if this dies come true, don't expect the $300 price of the N4.
Then, there are also rumors that the N5 will be made by Google's new child Motorola. It has yet to prove itself with the Moto X and the new Droid line, but Google may be testing the waters with these peculiar phones, to see if they are headed in the right direction. If the N5 is made by Moto, you can expect it to have a < $50 increase, compared to the N4. It will be a less fancy version of the X. Probably made in China with little to no customization.

OK, So I'm a loyal Nexus user, but I felt comfortable with my Nexus 4 so I decided not to upgrade at first. We're now into March, which means we're less than 12 months away from the Nexus 6, so is now the wrong time upgrade to the Nexus 5? There's been no discounts for the Nexus 5 yet so it's not as if I'd be saving money and with the rumours than the Nexus 6 will use an octa core, that could literally render the Nexus 5 worthless to many.
What do you think?

well that's not true. just because it has more cores doesn't necessarily mean much (+ it's a rumour) - definitely considering how much of a powerhouse the N5 is.

That's a decision you have to make on your own man. In today's technologically driven world, that new, better, faster, sleeker device is always going to be "just around the corner." For me, the Nexus 5 is the best phone I have ever used. Have you seen the development forums (we have TWO by the way!!!! lol), there's enough ROMS for you to flash and play with for well over a year lol. If you feel you've outgrown the Nexus 4 and want something better, then go ahead and pickup the N5. If you're content with your N4 then I guess go ahead and wait..

To be honost, i dont think any processor in the next 2 years will be much better than the one in the nexus 5. Its already powerful enough as it is.

I'd wait for the 6 personally. Only because its not much of a jump for me, 4 to 5.... same as s3 to s4 or HTC one to one 2...

Depends on how much you can get for the n4 to me! Just got my nexus 5 and its whole lot better this time around(last one I had had that yellowish tint) I think is it especially if you live in a area that will get you lte speeds

I would wait until either the Nexus 6 or the Nexus 5 is reduced in price. Google obviously reduced the Nexus 4 quite heavily at the end of its life-cycle and I would imagine they will do the same in the not so near future.

I purchased my N5 on Amazon. Brand new, I paid a total of $37.09 USD. I was eligible for my two year upgrade through Sprint. I'm not sure which carrier you have but I would say it's definitely worth checking out. Also check wirefly.

Get the N5 now, sell the N4, then later get the N6 and sell the N5........

Waiting for a price cut from Google won't make sense in your case since what you care is being up to date. Why wait for a price cut if by then, the N6 will be 2-4 moths away and you will be in the same situation as right now (should I buy the 6 or wait for the 16 cores nexus phone 7:laugh
As galaxys said, sell N4 now and get the 5.
Or don't get the 5 at all because the Nexus 4 performs well on 4.4. and wait for the 6.

If you want a phone now, get the n5.
How much faster can any phone really get at this point? The n6 may get bigger benchmarks, but in the real world, where most of us live....how much quicker will it really seem in day to day use? For what you can reasonably do on a cell phone....I think "speed" has been about maxed. All phone companies can do now is work on other things. Battery life, cameras...etc....
I suppose the battery, camera and maybe storage might be slightly better on the N6...but for me, the n5 more than meets my needs for all those.

Wait for the Nexus 6. The reason I got the nexus 5 was because I came from the Nexus S. It's a 3 generation upgrade for me

Imo the N5 is overall a better device than the N4; better cpu, gpu, speaker and a gorgeous screen. I wouldn`t want to have missed it personaly. We`ll see what the N6 will bring in about 8-9 months

Interesting juxtaposition of opinions here, some people saying get the N5 others saying wait for N6. I think I might just go for the N5 and sell this one to my old man, after all, by the time the N6 comes out, the N4 will be two generations behind. I think the biggest thing I miss right now is 4G. I don't get it where I live, but I do get it where I work, well, I could, but I don't because I'm on an N4. Currently, the N4's still sell for up to £170 (16gb of course) depending on condition and age. That's going to drop significantly when the N6 comes out. Mine's a minter, always kept in a case, always had a screen protector, and is only a few months old as I had to return my last one under warranty due to a faulty screen, so he's said he's willing to pay £170. Plus, keeping it in the family means he can still enjoy the warranty protection and I can always sell my mums phone and get a few more quid, as she'll no doubt get my dads S2 (which is still a damn good phone).
From all the speculation, there's very little I can see on the N6 that is actually that attractive. Octa core I get that, but fingerprint unlock? Meh. It's not as though Apple's has set the world alight. What I will say is that from now on, if I see a Nexus device and decide that's a good option, I will buy it, as opposed to wait like I did with the N5.

How is it not a big jump? The s3 had a 1.5ghz dual core cpu and 1gb ram, and the s4 sports a 1.9ghz quad, with 2 ram (not to mention the 108 19th resolution display)
The jump from s3 to s4 was pretty significant if you ask me.

I just don't see it as enough of a jump to be worth losing money on.
If I am in a contract where I am paying £35 a month for SIM and handset, for 24 months and after 12 months, I want the S4, I have to sell the S3 for half of the cost of the S4, find the other half the cost of the S4 AND still pay the £20 of the £35 a month for the S3 that I no longer own, I don't see the S4 being "worth it". Does it represent that much of an improvement? I don't think so.

I've just upgraded from a nexus 4 also. The 4 had tons of life but no LTE. I will keep this for two years. With a decent kernel it's one hell of a phone I'm proud to have

Yup ....I'm done with Samsung. Touchwiz is horrible and it takes a lot of work to make them smooth and lag free. I'm doubting roots future on new ones also. No root on a Samsung would be a nightmare. Lol

Yeah, as @mistahseller said. New phones are constantly coming out so if you want the N5 you should just get it. You can also make the argument about the One Plus One since it's apparently a better value (without getting into all the CM details). Personally I've been getting phones when they first get released just because I am one of those people that likes having "new" devices. But at the same time I don't buy every new device that comes out.
Also, there's the rumors of android silver. So who knows what's going to happen. There might be a N6, there might not. Just like the Nexus 10 tablet, they still haven't refreshed the original.

Get it now if you really want it, Then upgrades are always possible later...

google play doesn't regularly discount phones/devices (as much/frequently as a retailer like Best Buy)

Probably because the supply cannot meet its demand. So they have a invite system to cause hype, free marketing until they their supply can meet the demand. Plus at the price of $349, they aren't making much profit on the phone.
But I agree, get rid of the invite system and get the phone in people's hands before the specs become outdated to other flagship devices. They're here making customizable covers and whatnot, who cares.. just get the phone out to meet its demand.

The OPO is dead meat once the Nexus 6 comes out in 2 to 3 months.
The Nexus 6 will cost around $349, have newer next gen hardware, and come with Android 'L' out of the box. And with the Nexus 6, you will be able to actually, really purchase the phone, for real.

I doubt the OPO will be "dead meat." There is no serious next gen hardware unless it ships with Snapdragon 805.
OPO will still be a good phone regardless and its hard to pack that much in a $349 phone especially coming from a popular manufacturer such as LG/Samsung/HTC. OPO will have Android "L" regardless.

Yes. I have owned the first four Nexus phones, and all but the Nexus 4 were easy and fast to get. I got the Nexus-One the first week it came out, I got the Nexus-S at T-Mobile Best Buy the morning it was released immediately, I ordered the Galaxy Nexus online the 2nd week it was out, and got it the week after, and the Nexus 4 was a pain, was sold out the first two months, and was impossible to find, but by the third month they had better stock and I got one. I did not get the Nexus 5, because the crappy battery life, and I was pissed Google didn't keep the 3,000mAh battery from the G2 which the phone was based off.
My point being, all those Nexus phones were fast and easy to get, except the Nexus 4, but that was turned around by the third month. Where as the OnePlus One has been out for 3 months now, and still impossible to find, and the phone is still not available for purchase, you need this ridiculous "invite" which just blows my mind away any sane company would try to market a product this way. How bout make a website with a purchase button and shipping date, and let me buy it and get it 3 days later, not wait for some stupid invite, that just turns me away.
OPO really screwed up here, or purposely fooled everyone, not sure which is true ? How could they not know a phone with $700 flagship specs, but only selling for half that at $350 wouldn't be a smashing hit, and very hot seller ? They should have been more prepared, at least expecting this OPO to sell like a Nexus phone, quantity wise. I think they had 120,000 forum members at launch, that were all wiling to buy the phone, but only originally released like 5,000 phones at launch, and then like 7,000 later, and several thousand more, but WTF that's extremely low quantities, a joke actually.

I bet it does.
Everyone says this every year about the upcoming Nexus, no way it will have flagship hardware at the cheap price they sell the Nexus phones. But every year it does.
Last year everyone expected the Nexus 5 to have the Snapdragon 600, to match the then flagships; Galaxy S4 and HTC One M7, but the Nexus 5 came with the brand new next gen Snapdragon 800, besting those two flagships, and still selling for half their price.
My prediction for the Nexus 6;
- Announced in October / released in November
- Price of $400
- Snapdragon 805
- 3GB RAM
- 2600mAh - 2900mAh battery
- 5.2" to 5.5" Screen
- Maybe a 1440p screen, but most likely 1080p
- Made by either; Asus, HTC, or Sony

Question, Thinking about buying S6, but selling in the future to fund for Note 5

So, I've never sold my phones before, but the thing is, I really want to move over to the phablet side of things, and I want to get the note 5. The Note 5 is slated for a q3 release. My upgrade is due already (have a HTC m7) and since I pretty much put my HTC out of commission, I'm using my Blackberry from like 2009 as my current phone.
Main question is, If I buy the s6 and sell it in like 5 months tops, what would I get for it?

It's hard to say to be honest. Since they'll be a lot of S6 devices sold the resale value is likely to be lower, like other Galaxy devices in the past. Supply and demand after all.
On the other hand the build quality is much better than previous devices and it's likely to be higher than previous years.
I'm in the same boat as you, I am intrigued by the S6, and possibly the G4, but I know the Note 5 will likely be even better.

Both are great devices (Note 4 lollipop update killed my battery life). As someone who has gone from phone to phablet then back again, I can tell you that selling your galaxy phone on ebay, CL etc can be pretty disappointing. If you pay full price today, in 6 months you could probably pull $350 selling it... at least that's been my experience. Either way, good luck, and the GS6 has been great for me so far so you can't go wrong there.

I would agree with the above post. I am guessing that in 6 months you'll probably be able to get 350 to 450 for the GS6. That's really not bad, but you'll be paying about 200 for using the device for 6 months.

Yep all the above post are accurate the note probably holds the most value of any android phone. Truth is because of so many releases android phones don' keep value well, in about 2 month you'll start seeing s6 pop up used for around 450-475 probably by the fall when the note 5 comes for a mint condition s6 32gb you'd get about 400 probably
