[EDITED] OnePlus One Stuck on Boot - ONE Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi Everyone!
My OPO is softbricked and I would like to unbrick it. I do care about wiping my data, because I would like to keep the whatsapp backup and all my media (pictures, videos etc.). Is there a way to get those files off of my phone to my computer? I can acces my TWRP Recovery. The TWRP backup doesn't include my media. Is an OTG cable my only saviour?
Sincerely,
Flipoflip
EDIT:
My OPO is stuck on the bootscreen, I only see the Cyanogenmod logo, so not sure if softbricked.
Does flashing a ROM or wiping data/factory reset do anything with my media?

But only wiping data won't fix the softbrick right? Don't I need to reflash the ROM, which causes me to lose all my data including media? Or will the wipe, with internal storage excluded, fix the softbrick?

In TWRP go to advanced then file manager browse to where your watsapp media folder is and copy it to a otg drive

in TWRP just wipe davlik cache, system, data, cache
leave the internal storage unchecked if you wish to keep you Whatsapp's data and other user data
after that flash your ROM (cusROM or official as your taste)
should not worry about whatsapp chat coz it would be restored once you install whatsapp after you boot your ROM (if backup presented in your internal)
PS: whatsapp backup folder is in sdcard/Whatsapp/database/ *.db.crypt8
correct me if i'm wrong
and do it with your own risk
hope it help and happy holiday :fingers-crossed:

How to completley wipe phone?

After wiping data via CWM and flashing roms, I've noticed that I don't have as much free space as I would expect. How do I completely clear off my phone? Can I just delete SD card folder? What files does recovery wipe?
Thanks
Recovery wipes data, cache, system, and I believe SD ext. Memory after flash can depend on the ROM. More features=less memory.

And do you mean form SD card? If so, don't unless you want to lose EVERYTHING on it

If you really want to clear your phone go into the com and the mounts and storage section and format internal and sd card. Just make sure you backup any pictures or data you want to keep that are stored in to internal memory.

[Q] Factory reset doesn't delete data/restore system?

Aside from the pee-stain at the bottom of the phone I did notice one thing. When you do a factory reset (and select/check that deleting userdata is okay) it does not:
• delete sdcard data
• remove user settings for apps/wifi
• restore modified system files (hosts, etc...)
• root remains as well
Is there actually a way to do a proper reset and have it restore things as it should? In line with that how do I securely erase the data if possible so in given it to a family or it ends up on some truck with Avast that the data can't be restored?
Thanks!

WTF? Factory reset does not actually factory reset..? This seems like a huge bug with CM11... Especially the part about the lack of deletion in the SD card and user settings.

Nope. I had rooted the phone and while I think I lost root; the modified hosts file I changed (http://winhelp2002.mvps.org/hosts.htm) was still there as well as the entire SD card contents. It remembered my home wifi as well because I looked in settings and it showed my home one as "out of range"
Not sure if it's a bug or by design as I haven't tried flashing the stock image yet.
For a complete factory reset that will erase everything. Everything! You can do a factory reset from the boot loader. (Restart or power on phone and hold down the volume down button, scroll to factory reset, push power button) or from TRWP data reset, it makes you confirm and type "yes"
I reset my phone through the boot loader on accident a couple times and wanted to kick my dog.

You guys do know that factory resetting only formats the data partition excluding the /data/media directory. This is not a bug. It wouldn't need to do anything to the system partition of you don't root. And it's not able to restore the system partition without a system image and where are you going to store that? In the system partition? All user settings including apps and WiFi settings are stored on the data partition will actually be wiped unless when you log into your Google account you select restore from backup. There's no reason you would want to delete storage too when factory resetting unless you want to sell the phone and you can delete that in so many ways since it's your storage.

Thank you both Tried that and worked. Wanted to restore the hosts file to stock but couldn't find the original again. (didn't think to extract factory rom files on cyangen site)
The solution is in their FAQ.

Just flashing the ROM by itself will not wipe data or internal storage, but you may encounter bugs (it's called dirty flashing). The best way to get a bug-less ROM is to clean flash which means wiping every partition. The only one that should be OK is internal so you don't have to wipe that one when clean flashing.

No, flashing a ROM doesn't wipe user data. When flashing a new ROM it's best to wipe system, data, cache, and dalvik cache, but it isn't necessary to wipe (internal storage) user data.

If you are currently on YOG4PAS1N0 and your device is rooted with TWRP in place and you want to update to YOG4PAS2QL, then simple go ahead and flash this zip **without** wiping internal storage which stored all your media like pictures, music, videos etc
Just download this zip and flash it via TWRP
However, wiping system, Data, cache is recommended which will **only** wipe your apps and it's related data
More information on flashing is here forum.xda-developers.com/oneplus-one/general/guides-bacon-timmaaas-how-to-guides-t2839471

Stuck in BootLoop [using ResurrectionRemix]

Hello Guys,
I am using Resurrection Remix with Default Kernel on my One Plus One
My phone has gone into boot loop.
It is stuck on RR logo since past 25mins.
I can access the Internal Storage through TWRP.
I tried the following things :
Wiped : System, Cache & Dalvik cache.
Reinstalled Resurrection Remix 5.7.0 and GApps.
The last thing I did on phone was removed a theme of PowerAmp Player.
As soon as the un-install was finished my phone restarted and was stuck on RR logo.
Dont know what the problem is.
Please can anyone help.
Thanks
Usually a clean flash resolves any such bootloops

If you are worried about your files, don't worry they will not be wiped as they reside in INTERNAL STORAGE.
in layman's term; when you wipe data, all your installed apps are wiped out but all your images, songs, videos, files remain untouched.

If it's only pic's and music
you mainly concern about
the easiest is to connect
phone to computer (Usb)
See phone in C drive, open relevant
folders.
Copy and paste in temporary folder
pc /laptop.
Otherwise move everything temporarily to Sd card and reset.
If you got like me, + - 187 apps plus app data,
then yes its a big hassle.
I only will factory reset if i have to.
I have 100+ apps .. but , but I dont know if im correct about this but in my one plus 3 when i reseted it apps and data were deleted but not pics and music..i cant seem to find that option on my s8+ ..what if i wipe data from stock recovery ? Or is it the same ? @willcor

Edit : i do want to unistall the apps and their data.. i just want to keep pics and music
Factory resetting your phone WILL delete your pictures and music. There's no way to keep them through a factory reset AFAIK. Your only choice is to follow the earlier posters advice and copy any pictures or music you dont want to lose to your PC first before you wipe, and then copy them back over after.

If you move the pictures and music to your sdcard you'll be safe, the only thing wiped in a reset is internal storage, or you can transfer them to your PC via usb.

Nothing on the sdcard will be wiped with a reset, just internal storage.
