After waiting about a month of really wanting a tablet, I just went out and bought one instead of waiting for the perfect deal ect ect.
I decided on the Le Pan II 979 after reading countless numbers of good reviews.
Today it came in the mail, and this is what I get!
ht tp://i.imgur.co m/6jF9z.jpg
So, right after I finish writing this I'm going to return it! Woohoo!
Anyway, I don't know if I'll buy another Le Pan. It was a nice size and weight for me, I just didn't really like that it had only one 30pin connector for the charger. I also don't expect it getting much support within android communities and it didn't have many accessories made for it.
Anyway, could someone PLEASE recommend me a tablet to go get. I think I might just go impulse buy an Iconia a500 at Walmart for 350+tax.
I just want a damn tablet!!!
Thanks lots
Your Issue
Look your going to get what you pay for look for htc google lg samsung nook tablets that is were you are going to find support for the device other wise you buying exactly whats in the box and dont expect to get more developers dont waste time with devices that dont sell not poupular or they dont own
please hit thanks or buy me a pepsi been a long day
Very well said. Do you have a recommendation of a good tablet less than $360?
Wow, that is too bad. My Le Pan II has a little bleeding but nothing compared to yours. Perhaps you could take a 2nd shot and test your luck.
that's too bad .
My Le pan ii has a little bit light bleeding on the corners but no big deal .
G'day,
IcedCube here. I have in my possession a Galaxy Tab 7" and for the life of me, I love the little thing (I recently got a ICS Chinese Tab but it's a different kettle of fish. ). I carry it everywhere I go, as it's a beautiful size. Looked at the Galaxy Note, and went "Pfft. So what? My sexy little Galaxy Tab is what I want". And even if it's a little "fat", it feels like a tank. I've dropped from chest height onto a concrete floor by accident and it survived. Not a single scratch or crack in the screen. And it had it's protective OEM cover on it too.
Recently (okay, maybe one or two months ago), I got rid of my Iconia Tab A501 (3G). Kinda feel sorry I did that though, because as soon as I loaded the leaked ICS up on it, I felt the Tegra power. Anyway....
My friend recently got a Samsung Galaxy Tab 8.9" and I was surprised at it's size and performance. So I guess I am a little envious; but whatever. I was wondering if you guys could help me suggest a tablet. I know I can search google myself, but here we go.
My local PC store has a ASUS Transformer TF201 I believe, but not sure if it's 3G or not. It looks pretty nice and that keyboard is awesome - replenishes vital juice while you type. I wish the Iconia had a keyboard for it, because that Dock connector was quite under-used...
Needs to support hardware video decoding. This helps me along boring car trips, I can load up my anime and have the H/W decode the x264 video stream, without my battery life being depleted quickly. I know Tegra video decoding got really good in ICS, but yeah.
Hardware accessories. Optional, but if the tablet has options (like keyboard) or other things that I can buy to add on to it if I wanted to, then that would give it bonus points.
I know how the Tegra 2 was a bit poor in comparison with other tablets, so if it's not nVidia, then I guess it might be interesting. I'll take a look at nVidia tabs too, so I'm not ruling them out.
Bonus points if there's custom ROMs for it. Even more bonus points if there's AOKP or CM9 for it.
On that note, unlocked bootloader. I'm looking at you, Acer.
At least 10" screen, unless the 8.9" screen has a high resolution. My chinese tab runs at 1024x600 and it's a little meh. I miss the 1280x800 screen that the Iconia Tab has. The screen should also be sharp, because I don't like blurry text.
3G Support. Because what's a tablet to me if I don't have WiFi access on the road? I know I can carry around a pocket WiFi hotspot but then you have to recharge it's batteries and all that crap. Also must be GSM since Australia doesn't have CDMA anymore (was killed off in 2005/2006).
At least 8GB or 16GB internal storage. Bonus points if the tablet has microSD slot, so I can slip in an external microSD filled up with my songs, etc.
Decent battery life. Don't want something that will conk out in less than half a day. Do note that I would be using it on the road, so it should be able to survive moderate web browsing use.
Price tag that won't give the wallet a heart attack. If possible, less than $500. I can go over this, but if I can get it under $500 (or even see if anything's up in the XDA marketplace.... now there's an idea...)
Alright. So that's the list. Over to you!
Hi!
I think, that a Acer Iconia A510 would be nice. That is the tablet i buy in the next few days, if it is available in germany.
I hope, that the display and the reaction time is good on it.
The power with a quadcore and enough of RAM in a 1280-panel would be very nice for everything and the price is OK for that.
I tested the Sony Tablet S-Tab and it was very very nice to handle. It was (only) a dualcore, but it was very smooth to surf and use all the apps. But now the hardware is to old and the price to high for that.
Greets from germany
Sony S-Tab, eh? I never heard of that. Sounds rather interesting - I guess I'll add that to the list of "random research" to do.
in the Design Aspect and style its Sony
samsung tablets r surely gaining momentum recently but i dont lik samsung designs and UI. if u hav taste in good designs and UI styles and special unique features i recomment Sony tablets ..they are awesome and iam sure u wil fall in love after evaluating a sony tablet.. just try on..
Sony tablet S is very nice very good.. pricing not much bad.. its worth.. soon getting ICS update.. its really fantastic piece of hardware..
galaxy tabs are rather feels lik boring aftr a while of use.. othr tabs just feels dull and there isnt anything special of its kind.. but i guarantee sony delivers everything u need..its truly of an impressive feel u ever get..

Looked at this. Saw a WiFi-only one, looks pretty interesting. However, when I eBay'd a 3G version, the price tag broke my wallet. Also looked at the Sony P Tab, which has 3G and Dual 5.5" screens (looks like a clamshell). Price tag stung the wallet.
I also took a look at the Iconia Tab A510 model, and it looks like it'll suit the bill. The price tag is still is a bit of an issue, but I guess I can sell my Galaxy Tab on the XDA marketplace to get some cash.
I dont know the size but Asus Padphone?
You thought about the Nexus 7?
...sin you already have the tab. And they worked with Asus on it.

ASUS PadFone: Possible, but looks like it might be out of my league. GSMArena states it's around 610 EUR, which means... according to XE.com... 754.420 Australian Dollar. That's some serious cash right there, and would also mean that it would replace my Galaxy Nexus...
Nexus 7: No 3G version I believe. Gotta have something that does 3G since it's impractical to carry around a modem in my pocket every single place I go.
Galaxy Note also looks like a worthy contender.
I'll probably get flamed but oh well. Get the new iPad. You might not be able to get the 3G version but you should be able to get the wifi model for your budget. If you've got a smart phone then most likely you can tether to it for 3G access providing you have a decent data bundle.
The screen outs any Android tablet. You'll get a better app choice, it's fast and runs extremely smooth.
I've got a Teg 2 Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 and my iPad destroys it in everything. Ok it doesn't have flash nor will Jelly Bean. No expandable storage, cloud storage fixes that, you can jailbreak it easily and get iFile and get the camera connector kit for a few dollars then you can hook up an SD card for those longer journeys.
It simply is the best tablet I've tried and now I see why it is widely popular. Jailbreaking it opens a ton of useful features.

BTW, OP can also get iPad 2 since hes on a budget.
> new iPad
Ever since I know how the new iPads and such are made and how much effort you have to take into consideration when trying to repair it yourself, I wouldn't even consider one. Plus, I will not support a company that is trying to eliminate Android. Call me crazy, but ever since Android got into my blood, it's been calling my name every time I attempt to walk away from the OS.
I have had an WiFi only iPad in the past, and while it was very nice, I found when I went back to an Android device, I felt refreshed knowing I'm using something loved by the community and I have the freedom to root and install a custom ROM if I feel like it. On iOS, it's locked down and while you can regain root access by jailbreaks, can I download a completely different ROM on the iPad and use that? Nope.
I understand your views and I'm not flaming anyone, I'm just stating that I'm a Droid and I'm not going to let myself be corrupted by Apple. I've had my share of Apple devices in the past (owned 2 iPhone 3G, a MacBook, 2 PowerPC Mac Minis (one of which I still own) and an iPad), and yeah.
More suggestions welcome!
the best size tab I've seen is the 7.7
Tbh I am so annoyed that the nexus isn't a 7.7 ... it just looks too narrow at 7" and i'm contemplating whether to get one or not. 7.7 or Note IMO
Have a look at one, its the best size IMO

I looked at the Samsung Galaxy Tab 7.7 and i must say, i think that hits the "I'm sold!" Button. The screen looks pretty good and the resolution is a nice 1280x800. 7" normally gives you a 800x480 screen resolution, and that is a little skinny if you hold it upright.
Get any if the ASUS Transformer Pads. You can get an older model that will definitely fit your budget and your needs. The transformer tablets have FAR AND AWAY the best battery life when equipped with the attachable keyboard. I believe it has 3G capability. It has a 1200x800 screen if I remember correctly. It has a Tegra processor depending on the model, and is upgradeable to ICS.
Or just get the LATEST Transformer and go slightly over budget, but it will satisfy all your other needs. (Tegra 3! )

Thanks everyone for your comments. I decided to buy another Iconia Tab (A501), because I have used it in the past and I really liked it. Plus, the recent development with the Patched Bootloader means that I can run another OS on the tab if I wish to. So yeah.

This. I have the iPad 3 and love it, but I honestly wish I never sold my iPad 2. The gains from the screen are not worth the added thickness and weight, shorter battery life, ungodly charging time, and frame rate drops when gaming. Unfortunately now that I have used a tablet with such a high resolution, I couldn't go back to the iPad 2 even if I wanted to. I wish I never saw this screen :/ BTW,This is coming from an Android fan who just preordered the Nexus 7.
Hi guys,
I've got a question! i am considering the note 10.1, but all over the internet the reviews are kinda negative about the gui speed / the screen! (compared to the apple... -.-") i hope you guys can me share your experience with me ! cause i dont always believe the reviews
I was thinking of buying the nexus 7 (but many say its small), tf300 asus and i also heard about the Acer Iconia Tab A700.
But i was really curious about the note 10.1 because the most of my products are always samsung (D8000 tv <3, sgs, 830 ssd<3, etc), i am an engineering student so i thought notes and the math thing would be really cool! quick drawing with the spen!
But after reading through a couple of reviews on the internet there is alot they have to whine about... they say the processor is the best in town but on the other hand the gui and user experience are worse than the tf300. so they said to take the tf300 over the note 10.1 cause the asus got more memory for 90 euro's less.
My greatest concern is the lag they experience in the review, like the old tablets.. but the also say that the processor its not the fault they blame firmware/shell. if that so can we expect updates ? Cause i want the tablet to be smooth!
I hope you guys can share some thoughts !
Thx!

Any review which complains about "lag" on this device is clearly using a pre-production model. I have an i7 laptop and this tablet loads webpages faster than that does.
The only legitimate knock on this tablet is the screen. For the same price you can get a MUCH better screen on the iPad. BUT, with this you get the S-Pen. If you don't care about note taking or drawing by all means get an iPad 3. But if you like the idea of a pen that really works, get this.
I'm also in this predicament .... it hasn't come to Canada but I saw a video on android police....the back casing looks like it isn't on right or something......bounces.....is that the case?

They uses the ones Samsung send to them. and i dont really like apple.. its like jail to programmers in electronics . i really think the pen would help me out in college!
the full HD i dont really miss yet! and cause the tf700 if only available here in the 64gb version with dock for 643 euro! so its a lot more than i am willing to spent
Thx btw for the links they help alot!
You're an engineering student ? How could You do WITHOUT the SGN 10.1 ?
Even I as a teaching surgeon only wonder after 1 week of having this ultimate device how I have lived without it ? ( well, I had my SGNote).
It's not the device by it it's tech specs alone but the entire concept and interface and 10000000% usabillity in every second of one' s life
And that's only the beginning. It's running now for 2 weeks on the market and the US update already improved the usability significantly ( see posts)
I know of 3 10.1s in my sourrounding, one is my wife and her working profile is completely different to mine but every day she says: how did I live with this crappy iPad-**** up to now using a Pad /Tab device approx. 6-7 hours per day.
At no second there was the slightest lag or crash and I use it to the possible limits ( well there IS a lag: but only when my providers radio-mast is too far away or 3G Radio channels are cramped :crying:
Id recommend this device. its nothing like the negative reviews portray. solid built device. its the most powerful tablet on the market today. it has a great 720P Hd display. true stereo speakers that can't be matched by any device. whether in clarity or loudness. Ics version of android thats put together very well. great battery life. S pen feature that integrates seamlessly into the Os. even if you font use pen, this device is great based on speCs and software alone.
Ill even say those negative reviews arent representative of this device at all. for an engineering student or any student, this is a great choice.
Based on my experience with it so far, it gets my stamp of approval. The infinity a good choice also but I saw you say price of it plus dock is more than youbwant to spend. go with the note 10.1 you wont be disappointed with how fast n fluid it performs plus the usefulness of the s pen.
Let me put it this way. One review i read decided that the SGN10.1 was fail because they took a poll that said most tablet users didnt think a person looked "cool" using a stylus. Lol, who the hell cares if i look cool or not if i have a better tool to work with?
Anyway the critics all slammed the Note as well and it went on to be a monster seller.

Its true that the plastic creaks slightly (for me anyways), and that it scratches easily for sure. Its true the camera isnt the best, though its not bad by any means. Honestly, the selling points here are the processor and the s-pen, and for me, thats worth it 10 times over. The spen is the best stylus solution that im aware of for any tablet. The processor is insanely fast. I have not had a single complaint about it yet. Also, the IR port is a nice extra

So it is fast, nice, all the reviews say is the only pro, spen and multi screen, do u miss nfc and compared to the galaxy s camera and plastic wise how is it and can you get a dock able keyboard like tab 2 or just a bluetooth one, how does the IR thing work and finally the whole split screen only works with touchwize apps right so I can't have whatsapp and a movie open at the same time, $500 is alot of cash to spend then realise that it wasn't what u expected.

Honestly it depends what your looking for in a tablet. I got this because I wanted the spen and a fast processor. I love to doodle and this was perfect for it . I also plan to use this for notes when I start my classes. As for the camera, I never saw the point to have a back facing camera on a tablet; its super awkward to take pictures with it.

It is the fastest device I've ever uses , IR works perfectly on most of my devices at home ,split screen will include more apps in jelly bean update , the really bad thing about this tab is the silver frame , it is so damn fragile that your hand can scratch it easily and about the 500 $ is it WiFi only ?

i never had nfc... multiscreen is nice and ive even found legitimate use in it when doing problems from the book (open in Polaris office) on S-note, side by side. Its nice but its not a reason to buy this tablet. Maybe it will be witn the jellybean update. The galaxy s camera is probably better, but again: Its a freaking 10 inch tablet rofl.. are you planning on doing photoshoots with this 10inch wall between the models and yourself?
You can get a bluetooth keyboard but as far as i know, samsung never went through making the keyboard dock they were planning to. You can just buy the galaxy tab 10.1" one and sand off the sides a bit.. i remember reading aboout that a few days ago (google it).
The IR port gives this thing the ability to be a universal remote control. Thats it.
Multiscreen can only do Polaris office, browser, snote, video player, gallery and Samsung's email client. Maybe JB will change that.
Go test it out at your local best buy so you know what youre getting yourself into.

As others have said: it depends what you want to do with it.
I want to use my tablet in a productive way. I write notes, use it with pdfs and annotating them and learning languages (flash cards).
I am a hobby photographer and enjoy doing sorting, selecting and light editing on the tablet instead of the desktop PC. I plan to experiment with more heavy stylus editing in the future.
Camera on a tablet is a non-issue for me. As far as i'm concerned a tablet could come with only a front-facing camera for skype.
For my taste all phone and tablet cameras are junk and only useful for quick snapshots. That's why I don't need a tablet cam.
Scratching is a non-issue for me as well. I treat my stuff way more delicately than other people apparently.
Squeaking? When i lay on my back and hold the Note with one hand above my face the torquing will give a extremely mild squeak from the bezel area. Nothing worrying.
Everything runs smooth as butter.
Battery is amazing.
The big points for the Note are the stylus and the multiscreen functionality and the mini apps. For me who uses it mostly productively it is amazing. I suppose others who are more into entertainment want more; I am quite satisfied.
I guess there are better choices for purely entertainment, passive purposes.
Btw: afaik gadgets are more expensive in korea. Sometimes they have models not available anywhere else though (not the case with note 10.1 though afaik)

Interesting i would of expected a Samsung device manufactured in Korea to be cheaper there, the more expensive prices in Korea take about $200-$400 off the price if you were to get it in South Africa which takes it from hellishly expensive to reasonable price and more importantly affordable and buyable

Let me put it this way you have Ipads and you have Android Tablets (not taking in Windows8 tablets bec still new) If you want a Vanila tablet which will only allow you to do what i can do go for an Ipad, but if you want sometime more professional and something that you can customized then you need to look at an Android device, forget what all the reviews say this is one of the best Android tablets out there.
Those who say that its laggy and all that **** are idiot who are just lying, I always believe the proof is in the pudding if you have a friend who owns one just see it for yourself open as many apps as you can and see whether it lags or not.
With respect to multiscreen yes it is limited and may grow with JB but then there is no other Android tablet with that feature.
The battery life is great, yes its a plastic body and hence creeks will be there as thats more a charectristic of plastic though I have noticed non, nor do have any scratches.
But overall the build quality is good.
Again it depends what are you looking for in a tablet, but I can say one thing for sure do not go by what reviews say they are bull ****
Apparently Kprea has very genetous tax benefits for exports.
In the end it doesn't really matter since your friend is going to check the actual price and get a final confirmation.
As for bargain shopping: nothing beats the US (generally speaking) for electronics and many other stuff.

Of course. I was refering to pure purchase price. Mail ordering internationally extremely rarely works out to ones benefit in terms of bargain shopping.

Note vs ipad vs thinkpad
my experience haveing had extensive experience with 3 tablets, Ipad 2, Thinkpad slate, and Note 10.1 is:
Metal is firmer than plastic. duh but plastic is lighter than metal so all and all I dont think the construction of the Note is an issue at all besides nearly everyoen puts it in a case so who cares what the back is made out of if you have it in a case anyway I never understood the revewers obsession with this. To me the reviewers who focus overmuch on the materia used are either intentionally being biased towards apple or are completely out of touch with how most peopel use the tablet.
The thinkpad was built really well externally (my power button broke and had to be repaired) adn had a variety of very convienient ports but it was a bit bulky and a bit buggy, all and all I liked it alot and it converted me from ios to my first android product so I have very little bad to say about it.
the ipad2 is what it is, it works well for basic content consumption, my wife figured out how to use it in no time, it is boring to use and if you want to do something with it like put a movie on it or download a torrent or put a widget or send multiple things in an email your pooched it cant and wont do it. In my opinion sharing files, calendar items, pictures etc is so half baked in ios that it is laughable! Hardly any reviewers talk about how easy it is to share stuff with android again an indication that they are mostly out to lunch with how people use their devices.
Note 10.1 by far the best of the bunch, the build quality is fine I have very little creaking if any on mine and now that it is in a case it feels as solid as my wifes ipad (also in a case) only a bit lighter. Speed and lag very fast no lag I cant for the life of me understand how reviewers describe this tablet as laggy either they have a lemon or they are full of sh**. I have had no lag I have had it side by side with my wife ipad2 and have opened a bunch of apps side by side and loaded a dozen web pages and the note is always faster (as you woudl expect since it is a current gen product and the ipad 2 is not).
Mini apps, I love them there has been lots of times when I am in the middle of reading or editing a document and someone asks me to check email, or to calculate something and I just pop up the mini apps and then close it when done. sure it would be nice to have more options for apps that will multi task but all and all this is a great feature that I have used losts
Screen: sure not Hd but to be honest I really dont miss the HD option the screen looks good to me and I have no trouble watching a movie or reading a web page or email on it so I am happy to compromise the HD screen to have the spen which I like and use alot.
since moving from my ipad and iphone 3gs I have fully converted to android the note 10.1 and my SGIII work perfect together and are much more versatile than my iphone/ipad combo due to the enhanced sharing and tethering options .
Can anyone please tell that how is the internal memory divided in the note 10.1 in each of the16, 32 and 64 versions? I think it is divided in 3 parts(useable internal memory, USB and system partition)

Just remember though, if you need to return it for warranty fix you're gonna have to go back to Korea... I bought a Note 10.1 off the net and it came from from Austria, I live in Australia. It fried itself good and I had to return it for warranty, Australian repairers won't touch it under warranty as its not covered under Samsung's Australian warranty. Has to be sent back to Austria.... I sent it back to company a few days ago, I'm waiting to hear back from them.....
Got another one though, from Australia this time, as you would be surprised how you miss it... Will be eating rice and tuna for the next month or so...
Hi guys, long story short, I'm in vacation with my grandma and she came to know the pleasure of using a tab, for reading books newspaper and play candy crush and cut the rope.
She uses both my galaxy tab 2 7" p3100 with CM 10.1.2 and my mother's ipad 3. Now she want to buy one for herself, and asked me what to do.
Now i have few things run trough my head:
Option n.1: buy her a cheap android tab, maybe from chinese manufacturer, she does not need super specs so who cares. But she is gonna use it for read books and newspaper so what to buy with a good screen? I'm not an expert in that range of things, what do you guys suggest?
Option n.2: make her help me buy a new one for me and give her my 6 month old galaxy tab, but so what can i buy? I dream of an xperia tablet z but i need a smaller then 10" screen and anyway my budget is limited to around 300€ also with my granda help. oh and i need it it with 3G built in support.
I wait for your suggestion!
Cheers

I would recommend the new nexus 7 just because the screen resolution makes text super clear. And it has an awesome price. I picked one up about a week ago, and I've only been using it for browsing, reading, and news, it's exceptional. I prefer the 7" personally because it can be more like a book and the portability and ability to type easily is nice. Find out if she prefers the ipad or galaxy tab screen size first. If the 7" seems to be too small you might want to consider 8-10".

She said is much or more the same for the screen. O already thought of the new nexus 7 but the with wifi-3G option is expensive to buy it for her. Moreover I'm in Italy and g-play does not exist here so it will surely be more then 349$. The nexus 4 here costs 500€ that are about 450$. ( if it is just for her I would prefer to spend a little bit less. If it is for me yeah it would be a great option. But pet's see when it is shipped to Italy.
Thanks for your precious opinion!
Edit: crazy idea make her fund a bit for the new plan with xperia z ultra in bundle XD
@augustine: i know that much but a 300€ device for a woman that turns 80 in september is bit too much. Maybe someone knows of a china fair enough tab
what do you believe of this tab.. price would be around $225 to $267 nd no it is NOT CHINESE... here is the link- http://forum.xda-developers.com/show....php?t=2392059
Do NOT skimp on a tablet for an elderly person. If things do not work right and/or are laggy, she WILL not use it. She expects a premium feel now. If you get her a crappy a$$ Chinese tablet (or any tablet less than 200 USD), she will hate it. Old people don't have patience for that kind of stuff.
If the tablet appear problem, the old people don't know how to fix it, buy a high quality tablet.
