Custom ROM for RCA 7 Voyager II? - General Questions and Answers

First off, if there's already a thread on this, I apologize. I was not able to locate it.
I have an RCA 7 Voyager II tab. I was able to root it, but was wondering if there's a custom ROM for it. Does anybody know of one? Or can an existing one be used (CM, VenomROM, etc.)?

Hi, how the hell did you root it, please please is it a rct6773w22b android 5.0, I lost so much time trying to root it, Thanks :crying::crying::crying:

Are you sure Kingo works now? I last tried to root my nephews Voyager II last September and ended up bricking the device.

Yea that happened to my RCA Voyager II... Now im scowering the internet looking for a way to unbrick it, if anyone knows how i would appreciate it.

I wish I could help you my friend. I was lucky to be able to use the return policy from where I bought it. Best of luck to you.

Voyager 2 tablet Root yet? (android 5.0?)
Is there anybody looking into getting this thing rooted?

To provide a minor update over a year since the last post, I was just messing with one of these stupid things the other day. Doesn't seem anything has changed.
I got it rooted with KingRoot APK version, but I didn't realize it at the time. See, the Kingroot app itself even claimed the root process didn't succeed once it finished running. I had tired of screwing with the thing by then so I sat it aside. My wife picked it up to mess with it and asked "I thought you said you couldn't root it?" "Yeah, it didn't work." "So why did the Superuser thing just pop up for permissions?" Oh. Okay, I guess it *did* work. Unfortunately, it randomly rebooted on her about five minutes later and came back up without root again. Oh well. I tried for the heck of it to use Kingoroot PC once after this but it failed. After that, I tried unlocking the bootloader via a simple "fastboot oem unlock" command. To my amazement, it worked with no code required. I verified that it was indeed reporting back to fastboot as unlocked and then sent a reboot command.
...This was, apparently, the wrong thing do. It's as bricked as they get.
So now we can say this much:
1). It is possible to unlock the bootloader of this troublesome-to-root bastard of a tablet. Surely this should make the rooting process much easier.
2). You have a more-likely-than-not risk of destroying it at the same time, putting this stupid tablet out of its misery once and for all.
Oh yeah, one other weird thing I found while I was poking around on this thing - there's a system app called AutoReboot hiding on here. I expected it to do exactly what it promised to do, and it did. A screen with some Chinese text pops up, a countdown from 10 begins, and the device reboots. Fair enough, I guess. What I didn't expect was that this app will load at startup from here til forever from now on once you've ran it. The good news is that I eventually noticed there's a quick chance to cancel during the countdown, and I *think* I had it finally stopped from coming back again, but still, what the hell, RCA? What logical, good reason could there be for this app being there? And why does unlocking the bootloader (which I remind you is not locked by any code that would prevent you from doing this) cause the thing to respond by hard-bricking on reboot? (Ok, technically it might not be *hard* bricked, I haven't messed with it enough since then to say really... but it sure acts like it at least).
In short, eff this stupid tablet.

I don't own this device, but if it has an unlockable bootloader like that, we can easily make a permanent root solution! Also, if it was bricked by unlocking bootloader (what happened, did it just not boot or something?) we can lock it again with fastboot oem lock. But hey, if it works to unlock it that easy, I'd like someone who can chat with me fast to pm me, I might be able to get something going. Preferably has skype for easy access.

Hesitant to root

Hello there... this is probably going to get laughed at by the more experienced users on the site, but what the hell, here it goes.
I've had a Droid 2, an HTC Thunderbolt, a Dell Streak 7 tablet, and now, my pretty new TF300 tablet. I've never rooted any of them (the Thunderbolt looks scary as f*** to root), mainly because I was scared. I want to unlock all the capabilities of my device, but the idea of bricking anything I have just scares the piss out of me.
I've heard people say that the Transformer (not necessarily the TF300, mind you) is fairly easier to root than other devices because ASUS provides you the software you need to root it. Well, to my surprise, that software was nowhere to be found when my tab showed up. So I guess it's up to me to seek out the details and do some hardcore tab rooting... but damn am I scared.
Bottom line: I'm verrry inexperienced at rooting things... I probably couldn't root my way out of a paper bag. I see the lingo people use in the topics where they talk about rooting their device, and I am just totally lost. I guess I'm looking for input from others who were new to rooting until they hit this device, or input from pros about how risky it is, the ease of the rooting process, a more in-depth explanation of the rooting process... anything. The more, the better. Anything anybody could say to help me nut up enough to root my device, I'm looking forward to hearing it.
All you have to do, if you're still on the OG firmware (.17), is find the app called Sparkyroot, open it, and follow the directions. There is no danger of a brick by using Sparkyroot.
Note that if you've updated to .26 or .29 firmware, you'll have to downgrade to root, which could potentially cause a brick. But really, as long as you can control your attention span and follow directions, you should be fine.
Check out this thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1645029
I'm a computer programmer and I rooted only because I wanted to remap the keys on the dock. If you are so hesitant, and don't have a good reason to root, maybe your tablet is just fine the way it is. If you don't have a good reason to root, but you have time to kill, and want to learn new things, then it may be a good thing to do.
As a first safe step, on your laptop you can just install the android sdk with platform-tools, install the usb driver for tf300t, and see if you see anything when you type "adb devices" in command prompt. Maybe doing this will give you a better idea on things that you'll need to do.
Honestly, I'd wait until you have a real need or reason to root. You say you want to "unlock all the capabilities" of your TF300. But what do you mean by that? Is there a specific app you want to run?
I rooted my phone because I wanted free WiFi tethering. I haven't rooted my TF300 because I haven't yet run into any increased functionaliy that I feel I really need or want.
Another thing to consider is that OTA updates can fail or brick a rooted device (or you may simply lose root). So if you want an OS update, you sometimes have to flash an older, un-rooted stock ROM on your device, then take the upgrade. A bit of a hassle. I expect that, since the TF300 is so new, we'll be seeing a few OTA's over the coming months. Until things settle down I, personally, am happy as is.
You're gonna think this is so stupid... but the reason I want to root is so I can run an app called GameCIH, which would help me cheat in a game. lol
In my own defense, the developers have made that game so difficult that your only real hope is to buy in-game currency for real money. Enough other people say, "Cheating is wrong, but in this case, it's pretty warranted."
Lol, you have piqued my curiosity. What game? And its stupid easy on .17. I did it about 4 hours after receiving. If you wish to waive your warranty, you can unlock, install CWR(clock work recovery), then flash the SU(super user) zip.
Sent from my SGH-T989 using XDA
The game is called Defender II from Droidhen. If you go to Play, you'll see a whole poop ton of one-stars, people complaining that the game basically became impossible after the last few updates.
Now, since I'm such a know-nothing when it comes to stuff like this, I don't feel bad asking: I saw that Asus released a bootloader thing for unlocking the TF300 today. Is unlocking different from rooting, and can I hack that game having just used the bootloader apk? I tried using the GameCIH app, but it told me my device wasn't rooted so I couldn't use it.
And to answer somebody's earlier question, I have provided my device with all the firmware updates supplied it over the air by Asus. Does the bootloader app I downloaded tonight make that any less problematic?
-Tim
Here are my reasons to root:
- app backups/restore with saves (mostly games )
- tune settings (look at http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1641219)
- some apps require root access for more functionality (nova laucher, titanium backup)
- I'm a linux user so I like having god-like control over my system even if I don't use it offen
- and many more...
The only reason to not do this is loosing your warranty.
At this moment I have root only in my phone (Galaxy S II) but I'm also thinking about rooting my TF300T
^^
Another good reason would be to overclock imo. I've seen threads on XDA where people are getting 1.5 or 1.6 from root/overclocking, which is +EV imo.
If you can follow directions, you should be ok. At some point, everyone roots for the first time. I had no clue about any of this either (and I'm still not the best, especially with adb commands on the comp) but once I rooted my first device, I found it to be pretty interesting and now I do it with anything I get.
I'd advise you to read the root threads thoroughly, you will see a lot of Q&A which will show you where people tend to get stuck in the process. You also might want to just use it as-is for a week or two and make sure you don't have any defects, since your warranty could be void, and you wouldn't want to find out about an unrelated problem later that you can't get fixed.
I'm extra hesitant because it sounds like the downgrade is more dangerous than anything else, and damn it, in every thread, they use so many technical terms that I don't understand...
Make sure the blob file is in there with ADB tools and *circus music playing in my head*
Haha, trust me, I know where you are coming from. Rooting may be a good place to start actually, if you truly screw it up I don't think they will be able to know that it's rooted and will still cover it (someone else can chime in here if I'm wrong). Unlocking, however, apparently sends them information and will void your warranty for sure.
The only way to learn it is to do it
Then again, if things are working well for you, leave it as-is, won't hurt anything to run it stock.
Yeah, if that's the case though, then I really wish I didn't unlock it... I thought it was like rooting but it did nothing for me except kill my warranty and OTA updates... so until I nut up enough to root it, I guess I'm stuck on .29. Not a bad update, mind you, but as they keep upping the tab, I'm going to be stuck in the stone age. That kind of sucks.
Can someone reply to this ASAP:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1668173
Does following the steps in that post allow for a much easier root than I would have had to do less than a week ago? It sounds like it's a cinch to install CWM onto the tab (which, by the way, I know zip-**** about), and then after that, it says to "flash" a file to achieve root.
And on a side note, what the Bejesus does it mean to flash a file?
If you are unlocked, then yes that's the best way to go. Just to confirm, when you boot up, it says "bootloader unlocked" in the top left?
Flashing a file means to install the .zip from CWM.
In the top left, it says "Device UnLocked" or something like that. It's not near me at the moment, but yeah, it definitely says the word unlocked when I boot her up.
And thank you for the clarification
Sack up, and Root it!
It's FUN!
nordis,
I've flashed CWM onto my tab and I'm navigating it now, but I'm still unclear about how to root it.
The step says:
"After flashing CWM, you might also want root. It's easy, just flash the attached zip "
How! What?! Damn it! Can somebody detail what he means, or if I have to enter a specific command using my computerizer, what do I have to input? Because if I have to guess, I'll do it wrong, and this bastard will detonate in my arms.
Edit: I'm also in the process now of backing up my device. I don't know if rooting makes me wipe everything, so why the hell not. If I'm making a mistake doing this, then someone post back right away and I'll fling my tablet at the wall and hope for the best.
Edit: I did it! I'm rooted! I'm the smartest man alive! Nobody else needs to answer any questions I asked about this then
See, it ain't so bad. Pretty fun figuring this stuff out really. Now get to work rooting your phone and all your friends phones and tablets immediately

Can anyone explain what flashing CWM is and how it's relevant to rooting? It has nothing to do with unlocking the tablet right?

[Q] Kingpad k70 4.4 kitkat root help

Hi all,
Just bought a tablet off amazon not too long ago, Kingpad K70 (tabletexpress is the company), and I have been trying to find a way to root it. I have tried the various methods like Chainfire, Towelroot, and others, but still unable to. It is running kitkat 4.4.4, says model number is as KINGPAD K70. Any insight or assistance would be great! I also have stock .img file from company, as version on website did not work.
Thanks all,

Try rooting with the following android apps.
Root Master
z4root
Universal Androot
Easy rooting toolkit
Framaroot
Thanks for your quick reply!
I tried all of the .apk files with no success so far but soon I will try the last one and update!
Well tried last one (root toolkit) on two different computers, both just waiting for device, Windows 8 had some compatibility issues, and my desktop, windows 7 automatically reinstalls the driver, and won't allow me to update to ADB device oddly.
Any insights?
Thanks
Same problem
I got the k70 with the rk3128 and NEED TO ROOT as well. I asked the customer service people at tabletexpress, and they weren't much help. I bought it off of amazon, and the title said it was compatible with 3d games... and the lie detector test determined, THAT WAS A LIE !!! no real racing, no dead trigger, no fast and furious, no temple run of any kind. I was lied to. The tablet is a POS to me, but could be better if I could root it. I googled til my brain was all googled out and found NOTHING. So now my only option it to complain and bother people here, amazon, and the customer service at TabletExpress for selling me such a POS tablet:good:

updated: okay, I downloaded kingoroot on my computer. I hooked it up. Had the usb debugging on. wifi is on. I had it recognize the tablet once and it gave me the options to unroot and reroot. I chose reroot. it failed. So im trying to go again, but this time to unroot, then root, however i cannot get it to connect anymore, it keeps saying the tablet is offline! So im pretty sure im missin somethin here.... its sayin its offline, and i read that im supposed to "tick always allow from this computer" to avoid this problem. where would i find this prompt? how do i get to it? also, its not rooted[i checked with root checker] i dunno why it gave me the options unroot/reroot
SUCCESS!!

:good::good: for you. I got around the "offline" thing by deleting the kingoroot app off the tablet, then proceeding normally. I did the unroot, but it failed, however it did remove some stuff that made my first reroot fail. So after I unrooted and failed. I rebooted the tablet, deleted the kingoroot app again, and proceeded to reroot. This time the reroot worked!! thank you angrynapkinz:good::good: hey, one more question, what apps to you recommend for this tablet. maybe something for the battery and the overheating. I also couldnt figure out how to play 3d games on it without it crashing
Try China Devices
is cwf custom firmware? Im not that experienced with flashing new ROMs, and it seems that most people here are about the brand name stuff. I was googling cfw's and found nothing except for this forum website that "specializes" in chinese tablets like the kingpad/dragontouch (pretty sure theyre all the same) i think the webmaster makes cfw's or if he doesn't, he'll find out. Thanks again for the root help:good:
Hey harlow, yea I meant custom firmware, the KitKat that they have loaded is obviously rooted previously, you'll notice the more you use it. I installed xposed installer and root browser's etc on it for battery monitoring and all, malwarebytes keeps picking up malware loaded into the tablet and every time I delete. It's reinstalled upon reboot so that's why I'm trying to figure out rom reflashing/cfw options. Still trying to figure out what to add and what not though so take your pick and let me know also what seems to work. I went search and found its been mix and match from forums.

Yeah the kitKat they got on there is no comparison to the OG one on my cheap ass LG L70. I did malwarebytes and avast and found nothing on it so i guess im lucky. Im using Nova Launcher because it looks nicer and functions better. And theres this thing in the Google Play store called Root Booster. idk if you heard of it but you can set your tablet onto one of three modes: Speed, Battery, and Stock. Im on Speed right now, and it boosted the RAM about 50mbs. (I still cant play real racing on it tho) Have you taken the back off yet??? I cant figure it out!! I wanna replace the battery with something with bigger nuts... The stock one is garbage. I can squeeze about 5 hours out of it. Maybe ill glue on some heat sinks onto the chips, it gets really hot when im netflixin. So ill keep an eye out for the cfws. Have you tried reflashing with the stock one they got on tabletexpress? i havnt tried that, but maybe it wont have malware on it?
Yea it sucks, haven't found an alternative yet and still trying to figure this thing out. I had to flash one they emailed me cause the site one didn't work previously. The malware is like coudw.a or cloudsservice.apk every reboot, and also having a constant 115b up and download. No I haven't tried any games yet, or tried to open it up but I might do that, as I'm getting about the same battery wise.

Need PC/windoze to root.
"Root Android without PC," an info app on GP, indicates that phones/tablets with a kernel newer than 1/3/2014 can't be rooted w/o a PC. Framaroot doesn't work, it also fingers Kingo as possible solution. Kingo itself indicates that it's best for phones. I hate Windoze, but here goes.....
(Weeks ago, I saw something about invoking Linux instead--maybe it was a dream: Perhaps some of my brain cells exploded--no doubt due to "sprinting" cups at keg parties and then passing out long ago!)
I'm rating this thread a 3--still somewhat murky, without clear procedure to solution.
Thread is dead.
From rbrband57. This endeavor seems dead.
I still believe that replacing software/firmware is the key to getting the K70 to run better--the hardware likely is pretty good. I've been able to disable PRC bloatware, via some helpful cleanup software from GP. I'd like to uninstall. The loader at cold boot takes forever--I'd like to crucify that.
I'll reinstall kingoroot yet again, but I still don't know how to proceed further. Root confirm software says then rooted, but can't get SuperSu on--which might indicate true root, after all. Still not much info online.
My experience with rooting in the past was with a cheapo Icecream Polaroid 4.3" screen device from Big Lots: Full step-by-step procedure in one site, etc. Put a valid, new, upgraded .apk ROM on. Nothing can help the underpowered much, though--single core, 1GHz, perhaps, and 512MB sys mem.. GP worked sporadically afterwards--not really very well. Sold it to a guy in CA for his kid's Xmas last year.
Thanks for trying--Amazon no longer offers--K77, instead. Probably pretty much identical--hated, as well.

Root LG G Stylo Boost 6.0

root confirmed. Basically keep running kingroot. If it reboots it didnt work. It will say it failed only. When you get the root failed msg, close app and then reopen. It will ask for permission to optimize a few things..grant it. Boom rooted. Unfortunately, root is lost if you reboot. About to try supersu me when i get off work.
Update- Supersu me seems to be uneffective
http://1drv.ms/1TgZCJm
Fingers crossed !
We're gonna need someone that has been down these type of roads before to help. I got supersu in and busybox in and removed kingroot through terminal, but when I tried to put in the supersu binaries, NO GO. I still think the wide release of MM to all LG will get more people onboard.

I wonder if Dominick has even seen this yet? Seemed like he would have said something by now. Maybe I'll shoot him a text when I get a few.

Tapping fingers....anxiously waiting....
waiting for status update..... please devs dont leave us hanging on lol we need yall
All this stuff is getting passed around and some have made reference to a dev here on the G4 that might have some answers, and others are optimistic on androidforums. I think and I may have stated it before, that the wide spread adoption of MM on LG will provide more help. I tried to get some info on the kingroot thread here, but they really are focusing on 5.1 and lower. The kingroot that we used here is for 5.1, theoathkeeperalpha kept on keeping on an it worked as a temp. The guys on androidforum seem to think that temp root and busybox and manipulating selinux is all that might be needed, except for some expertise on manipulating selinux. We, us that know little, can only keep the convo going. It is, I'm not buying a nexus to get root.
we will keep it alive till then...... phone isnt dead yet still has potential i am still as happy with it as i was day one..even after 2 times rma lol. just wish it had unlocked bootloader this version of phone needed it soooo bad
read a post dom is gone from here for now he left due to mods or something so our hopes are starting to go away as he was only one as of lately even trying to work on this phone.
There are quite a few, with much more experience than Dominic on, http://androidforums.com/forums/lg-g-stylo.3133/ , that are knee deep in what is going on. We knew there would be an impasse from the beginning if using any phone with MM without having an unlocked bootloader. But at least with temp root through kingroot, and some say one-click root from here, you can alter your build.prop and de-bloat some of the google bundle. So it's not like we are completely blocked.
When kingroot starts doing MM exploits then maybe we'll be saved. Kingroot has only done root up to 5.1 Lollipop, so they either get out of the future of they're money making game or set to work to exploit it. It's the same with the boss here at XDA, @Chainfire. Without an exploit for MM on phones without unlocked bootloaders (the vast majority, I might add) supersu slows forward progress. So an exploit of sorts WILL materialize when demand (MM enthusiasts) aren't spending money at supersu and kingrootland.
Bricked my phone. Sent it off to LG yesterday. I got all carried away with altering the build.prop and root-uninstalling google apps. I had disabled the apps previous to the kingroot exploit, and decided that now with temp root I would be O.K. Well, I started getting this google service quitting popup continuously and it un-nerved me enough to do a factory reset. I foolishly forgot to at least try to clean out all the kingroot and supersu files etc that were in there, and when it re-booted I couldn't get beyond wi-fi setup as when it attempted to hook up with my google account, the dredded google services stopped popped up. Even after reset. So off to LG. They were nice at 2:30 am and that was pretty cool. I hope they don't give me grief, but it was factory reset and the temp root was gone. So fingers crossed. @[email protected] did you ever find out how to check your bootloader? It seems to me the times I booted into recovery (volume dwn/power) and chose restart bootloader the phone would just reboot. If the bootloader was unlocked would it go into the bootloader menu? That's where fastboot would come into play. Anyway I'm going to be skiddish about messing around if and when my phone gets returned, like everyone else.

I stopped using the stylo before I even found the temp root. So I wasn't afraid to screw it up lol. Same thing happened to me that happened to you and I flashed the file Dom posted the untouched 6.0 and it worked for me. Still tinkering and the stylo has pretty much become the phone that's teaching me my way around adb .
I bought the Irulu V3 6.5 inch screen 16gb ROM and 2 gigs ram off amazon for 149 bucks..don't let the price fool you..damn good phone so far! If you're around WiFi all the time like me you can get unlimited talk text and 100mb of web at airvoice wireless for 20$. Make sure you have good at&t service where you live . Its like a sore peter, you can't beat it.

You mean you flashed Dominic's untouched 6.0 on top of a bricked 6.0? I maybe should have tried that.

Been ghosting on this site for a while now, but now I should really start putting my 2 cents in.
Anyways, I had the G Stylo for VM and bricked it when I tried to replace the Kingroot binaries with SuperSU ones. Ironically enough, before I did that, It seemed that my root permissions didnt stick until AFTER my reboot. When I bricked I stayed up all night trying to get my phone back but was unsuccessful seeing as I also factory reset :crying: But I just got my second phone back from Best Buy after I had issues with my sim. Gonna go try to get kingroot back on it. Any tips for me prior? Weirdest thing is that this phone came from the factory with Marshmallow.. Connect at VM told me the manufacture date was January 1st. Running Ubuntu 15.10 and am struggling to get ADB backup to save a file that has a size higher than 0 bytes..
I got my VM Stylo from Best Buy too. It came with 6.0 as well. kingroot has not worked on it at all. Maybe that's a good thing...

I had trouble with Ubuntu 15.10 as well. Having better luck with 11.4. Hope this helps
Realistically i'll just skip the backups til i get root. Any news of getting into the bootloader? My first one would go into what I believe to be bootloader mode but still wouldnt come up under fastboot unless im getting things mixed up. And what are we using to flash on this pile?

Root for the ZTE Avid Trio (Z833) (MetroPCS)?

Okay, I know I don't post much in XDA, but I do read a LOT of threads!
The reason I am posting this is because I am wondering if anybody achieved root on this phone.
I have tried KingRoot, KingoRoot, OneClickRoot, none of those work.
It is running Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow.
I am about to screw around with ADB, see what I can do. I'll post back when I have got something.
Sorry if I posted this in the wrong section, I don't post much on XDA.
any luck?
I've tried every root method available without the PC and nothing. But, there maybe good news. In developers options there's a switch to unlock the bootloader. Now I'm no dev but I hope this makes cwm or tarp easy for devs to port and root.
I found https://mobile.twitter.com/srsroot/status/810325782417592325?lang=en srsroot claims it supports ZTE Z833. I've used srsroot once before but on another phone I have no PC so I can't test it but someone should test Cydia impactor see if it works.

1. I too saw that twitter SRSRoot business and tried it thinking, "Oh joy!" no, not working. Tried it every way you could (yes Kingo, KingRoot, vRoot, iRoot, FramaRoot, uRoot, & we-all_Root (the last two were jokes don't be so serious, nor was it a complete list of what I did actually try, ha!) too). I even wrote the people at SRSRoot telling them that it didn't work and have gone back to download their latest versions, still nada, zip, zero. FML on toast!
2. Cydia Impactor is not for Android devices, it is only for iOS. I went and double-checked just to make sure I wasn't trippin' thinking that maybe they have gone cross-platform. No, they have not.
3. I have the phone in question, I submitted a formal request on here in the best way I could find to get it added to the XDA devices list and I have been eagerly monitoring awaiting the day it happens. I was even considering trying to compile TWRP myself, but I just bought a different phone because I was tired of the headache. I couldn't figure out how to extract the zImage from it in order to give it a go (I think that's what it was). Anyways, I'm writing this before finishing reading the rest of the posts and may be rambling, but I had to respond. I have spent much time doing this. I ended up buying a different MetroPCS phone called the Samsung Galaxy On5 and was able to successfully root it and after much waiting finally got ahold of the Superstarz ROM that finally went out for that one. Just an FYI in case someone happens to see this before making the purchase. I will say that I feel like the ZTE Avid Trio Z833 has pretty good response time for such a cheap phone, then again they had a deal on it in the store, it looked to be more expensive at retail pricing. Anyhow, I digress, but felt the need to contribute rather than just lurk.
Oh, and another thing... The development option to OEM Unlock is "checkable", but as for actually booting to the bootloader it WILL NOT DO IT. The only way this is gonna happen to be rootable is if you use a custom recovery (which none exist yet) in a tar format and ODIN the friggin thing from download mode. So, there's your catch 22. If anyone knows how to extract the zImage and whatnot (without root obviously) I'd be more apt to give it a go and boot my happy bunghole into Linux and give compiling TWRP another go. I finally have had a lot of life stresses temporarily die down since I decided not to leave my current living situation and just stay with these irritating bastards another month at a higher rate. FML & Cheers!: good:
I should mention, however, that SRSRoot attempted to use it's "Exploit 8." So, I went digging into it's directories to see what the script was, but it was binary (and I didn't have reverse-engineering **** handy like PE-ID, and whatever else the kids are using in this newer age). So, I was like "wah-wah", but if any experienced ppl know more about the specific exploits that aren't ancient and actually working with Marshmallow that would be interesting to hear feedback about as well. Thanks. I really would like to use this second phone still, but right now I'm just using it as a Kodi/Megabox HD + AllCast Projector to watch streaming things without having to interrupt my working phone in the middle of it. It would also be cool to use as a straight VOIP phone with no cell service connected, but I've yet to find the free Google Voice VOIP loophole that is currently working. PM me if you know of these
P.P.S. I wrote another spicy post on hardr3set dot info about what crap I felt about their B.S. (weaksauce compared to anything legit which we all know you come to XDA for the meat-and-potatoes) because I was so tired of searching the Goog for root ZTE Avid Trio Z833 and having it be the top result over and over. Finally this has risen up. Thank you for starting this. Oh, and also, please... If you would kindly also request for this device to be added formally, maybe it would encourage development. Not sure how all that works, but yeah... power in numbers right?
Sincerely,
~Ye of little faith

Rooting your zte device
Can not be done. This phone is an unfortunate accident by ZTE with numerous problems and they are not small issues but ones that affect the performance of the device. Replace that phone or your only adding to your daily stress.
That kingroot and oneclickroot don't work
For this phone
a
Guessing this is a dead issue? It's an okay phone but lags horribly when it comes to multi tasking
Hey I don't want the root thing to die on this topic. So would it be possible to root via ADB update in recovery mode? Or to somehow update via SD card and applying root? I refuse to give up hope on this device lol
Anyone made progress on this? I just got this phone and it definitely has some issues, but I feel like root would resolve most of them.
Has anyone figured out a way to root this device?
I've searched for a long time without success. I hope something comes up.
Any progress on this? Thanks
following, bought one this morning hoping to have a cheap rootable phone.
I got mine from MetroPCS for $29. lol Yes, it's frustrating and has got problems (I've already put two of them through my dashboard and had to replace them, within the first 2 months, but it only cost 30buck so WTH. Anyways, I decided after I destroyed #2 that I was only going to use it for work and add no apps to it, except maybe GasBuddy and Winamp. Other than that, it's stock and I haven't had any real problems with it to speak of (problems aggravating enough to make me want to destroy it yet again).
So my suggestion to anyone who owns this phone, or is thinking about owning one: Don't install any more than a couple small apps, add a 32GB uSD card for music and other stuff, and use the thing as a phone and a media player only. The camera is pretty much worthless for quality photos, so there's really no other use for it. But it makes a great txting, voice calling, and music playing phone!
Of course, if you end up paying more than $30 for it, you probably paid too much. But it sure is a pretty nice phone for 30 buck!
Yes. root it please
I have a Z833. The phone only lags apps that are over 100mb I'll have test this out agin
I have ordered one of these phones for $20 should be here by Monday. When it arrives I'll be able to confirm if its bootloader is unlocked or not. In the meantime here is the firehose and support files (rawprogram0.xml and patch0.xml) as well as the MetroPCS B16 firmware to be flashed with QFIL or MiFlash. This will allow people to recover their device and hopefully if the bootloader isn't locked flash custom images.

So I just bought this phone today anything I should do with it?

Ok more specifically I'm pretty used to the stock android experience (modded of course) but I read about that audio issue and I'm pretty terrified of it because music and calls are the main things I need a phone for. I've been out of the modded android loop since CM10 so I don't really know present day standards or processes for unlocking/rooting let alone standards for ROMs etc. Anyone got any advice?

my words of advice would be to make sure that you need root before you root it. what i mean by that is think about what you stand to gain by rooting it vs the PITA it is to root this thing. Pay close attention to the 168 hour thing as its been a thorn in many a persons side and caused many a headache. Ive had dozens of android phones and all have been rooted with the exception of the HTC Rezound, which required the OMG PITA "wire trick" to root properly. These phones run very well as stock and dont have much bloatware, so rooting them is becoming less necessary. I got mine in july '18 and have been happy with its performance overall so far. Ive reflashed the stock tar.img a few times for varying reasons, and even rooted it. But after losing SPay capability with root, i flashed back to stock as the gains werent worth the losses to me. Also, SHealth is a task to get working after you trip knox btw.

Yeah tbh I'm ok with the interface now and aside from making the volume buttons change tracks when you hold them down the only things id need root for is clearing out bloatware etc. I think I'll take your advice and not root it for now (until something breaks) but what is this 168 hour thing?

there has been a great deal of discussion about how to get the OEM unlock toggle to show up in the developer options, many suggest that its only obtainable by leaving the phone powered off for 168 hours and then rebooting, not connecting to any network (including cellular) and then enabling developer options and then the toggle should be there.

So wait. My phone is showing the OEM unlock toggle and I can change it. Does that mean I can root? Or would trying to root then make me wait 168 hours? I never tried any custom stuff with it btw. Just bought and installed Lawnchair lol.

be careful with starting down the root rabbit hole tho. if you flash anything in download mode, youll trip the knox security counter and that is 100% irreversible without sending it to samsung. Root is cool and allows you to do stuff, but honestly ive not found too much reason to root this phone yet. Ive literally had over 20 android phones and i rooted and modded all of them (except the rezound, if you want to know why that one wasnt fully rooted, just google "rezound wire trick" and youll see) and this one just really doesnt need root IMO. Sure it would be nice to have a few root things, but its not worth the trade off of losing samsung pay so i can pay for stuff with my watch. That feature is just waaaay too valuable to me

Will you stop telling people that you will mess up phone if you try to root it.
If people follow directions they have nothing to worry about.
You where bootloop not bricked a brick device is usually a unfix able.
If is fine you what to keep Sam pay but your info you are telling is wrong.
I recently unroot my phone guess what Sam pay work fine.
Then root phone again no lock out and enable treble and flashed gsi image.
So their nothing wrong with rooting if you want to do that.

dude, i dont think youre reading what im saying right. Ive never said that rooting your phone will mess it up. the stuff about the G900V is a DIFFERENT PHONE. FFS. This isnt my first rodeo rooting and modding. Hell, i even was writing mods back in the Evo and S3 days. Im refamiliarizing myself with some of this, but i havent ever said youd mess your phone up if you follow the root instructions. Ill even go as far as saying as long as you dont Odin flash the tar.img for a completely different phone, these things are virtually impossible to hard brick. And yes, a bootloop is referred to as a soft brick. But, it is important to know that if you do root your phone, it WILL make samsung health not work as it did when stock and there is NO WAY of bringing it back without swapping the motherboard

Unlocking the bootloader was completely dependent on the type of EMMC chip that the G900V that you had was using. I got three of those and only one was able to unlock after the Marshmallow update.

the last tinkering i did with the G900V was several years ago and that was at the point when all hope was lost on the locked bootloader. I havent looked into it since as the G900's i had were G900P's which were FAR easier to work with. I did also root and ROM a couple G900VL's, but again was years ago

good times, yeah LOL!!! major waste of time on those friggin G900V's is more like it yeah, i wouldnt root yet, keep the stock recovery so it automagically updates to pie in a few weeks and manually check for updates every so often to force its hand. Also sammobile.com posts them too if you want to force it on via Odin and trip knox. Anyways, if you get the update in the near future, let us know!
