nexus 5 in 2015 - Nexus 5 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

hi
is the nexus 5 still a good phone in 2015? wish would you get the nexus 5? or nexus 5x?
there a lot of good deals on swppa right now for around $150 so i was wanting to no if the nexus 5 is still good for 2015? this would be uesd has my back up phone

Why not, it was good then, and is good now, at that price for a backup phone, sure. There are a lot of people that would still buy it as a daily driver too.

Just ordered a 5 yesterday for $200 new. The 5X is past my size threshold.

I wouldn't get it as a daily driver now, but its a decent backup phone for sure.

Not everyone can pay the price of a new flagship device, but purchasing a used Nexus 5 for the price of a new mid-level device (e.g any non flagship Samsung) I'm using as my daily driver and I'm totally satisfied.

The N5 can still be used a daily driver so no problem for a backup phone.
If you stay on stock roms, you should note that Marshmallow is probably the last official update for hammerhead.

Use a N5 every day and my wife, a N4, every day too.
very good phones for the price.
(with stock rom)

I use it daily with now CM13Caf and im pretty satisfied with it..So why not =)

Owned 2 new Nexus 5 since new (2 years old) and still in near new/mint conditions with screen protector & bumper guard, updated to MM 6.0.1 and on Chroma's latest build - loved the camera and in daily use, most importantly, for voice calling & browsing, running Apps - it's a pure Nexus & continued to be supported, got the extra LTE band 3 & 8 unlocked for use traveling abroad, with an external USB power bank so never out of juice when unable to quickly charge on the go. I don't chase newer flapship smartphones from other makers just to show hardware spec's - only feature that I wish LG/Google have is the integrated WiFi calling (like that on my "backup" jailbroken iphone 5S on iOS 9.0.2)
Exposed w. XHangouts allowing customized incoming voice call ringtone on the N5, instead of default GV ringtone - as I use my GV number over my cellular MTN (T-Mobile), except for the "inner" circle of families & close friends - easier to not miss calls abroad with WiFi calling & slower but free roaming data.
Been looking at the newest Nexus 5X but I am not in a hurry to upgrade even when they're running the Black Friday online sales - figured that the Nexus 5 still have at least another year of solid use ahead, before I switch out to something else & I will probably keep it as a backup (unless I change my mind & sell it sooner & use the funds to trade-up to offset the upgrade cost)
For OP & others, I see some good, near mint N5 going for as low as $150 on eBay or Swappa - some of the brand new in-box devices by other makers are still "waiting" for their factory MM rom to roll out. Meanwhile, there are still plenty of ROM development with the Nexus 5 - and, absolutely no bloatware by the carriers.

Still good for even 2016. Got one new for $190 on eBay and I use it as my main phone. Would love to see a nexus just like the 5 with upgraded specs and better build. I've used this one for about 2 weeks and I just kept wondering why I hadn't seen it earlier lol

[Q] Does it too late if I buy Nexus 5 in this month ???

I see LG G3 is coming
Soon Nexus 6 is after G3 ?
(I skipped Nexus 4)
Nexus 6 will be Qtr 4, November probably. We cannot make teh decision for you. N5 is a great phone though.
If you look at it that way by the time q4 hits you might as well wait for q1 and so on..
Yeah, as @mistahseller said. New phones are constantly coming out so if you want the N5 you should just get it. You can also make the argument about the One Plus One since it's apparently a better value (without getting into all the CM details). Personally I've been getting phones when they first get released just because I am one of those people that likes having "new" devices. But at the same time I don't buy every new device that comes out.
Also, there's the rumors of android silver. So who knows what's going to happen. There might be a N6, there might not. Just like the Nexus 10 tablet, they still haven't refreshed the original.
Get it now if you really want it, Then upgrades are always possible later...
google play doesn't regularly discount phones/devices (as much/frequently as a retailer like Best Buy)
That saying, the most recent price drops:
Last time, Nexus 4 dropped by $100 in august 2013
7 days ago, the GPE Xperia Z Ultra dropped $230 to $450.
Hence, Nexus 5 will typically be $350/$400 for 16GB/32GB..... will other phones be cheaper (LG G2, HTC One 2013)?
do you want those phones?

Should I still buy the OPO?

Hi!
Well, I got a Samsung Galaxy S4 as a gift and as much as I appreciate it, I'm not a fan of the Samsung brand because of their build quality (it improved in those 2014-end devices but I'm talking about the GS4). The GS4 is being sold by the main stores at 399€ so I'm planning to sell it for 320€/350€, buy the OnePlus One and even buy a case/skin for it.
Well, trading the GS4 for the OPO is a no brainer but I am thinking in selling the GS4, get the money and save it to spend it later on a better 2015 phone.
What should I do? Should I buy the OPO, should I buy another device or should I wait? I would buy the OPO without a doubt if it was some months before but after hearing all the confusion between OnePlus and Cyanogen, CM12s being promised to around this date and still being unreleased... Should I wait for a possible "OnePlus Two"? Should I buy a Nexus device? (I currently own a Galaxy Nexus)
I need some advice
You won't get $350 for your s4, check swappa.com for me easy place to sell and to get a realistic idea of what you'll get for yours. I've had a lot of phones and the 1+1 is far and away my favorite. Dev community is excellent, hardware is top notch, great speakers, beautiful screen, awesome battery life, it's really does everything perfectly. How long do you typically keep your devices, though? If you want to keep your next phone for more than a year, I'd say to wait and see what 2015 flagships bring.
Without a doubt if your interested, buy the phone! I've recently bought a Nexus 6 and the OPO is still one of my favorite phones of all time even compared to the Nexus 6!

Nah man, I can sell it for 350/320€ without a problem. Here in Portugal mobile contracts are rare, 95% of the population buys the phones carrier locked (which means we can only use that carrier's SIM cards in our phones) and the devices are expensive. GS4 is being sold at 399€ new in the big carriers so I can sure sell it for less 50 or 80 euros.
I have my Galaxy Nexus for almost 3 years and I don't change my devices often, maybe 3 to 4 years. I also can't spend over 500€ on a device so I don't have wallet for a HTC or a LG or a high end Samsung (even though they aren't the best price/quality choices, I'm just stating xd).
I would be sad if I bought the OnePlus One today and June or July comes and "OnePlus Two" comes at the same price, with better specs and the CM12s. But I don't also want to wait until OnePlus decides do reveal or not a new device. That's why I'm asking here, to know the thoughts of the ones who bought the OPO since they sure are better informed than me.
Definitely get it. I had motorola, samsung, nexus etc I even had the LG G3 before coming to the 1+. I love it, hands down the best phone I have owned and I wouldn't get rid of it till it is properly dead.

I wouldn't be sad, theres always going to be the 'next' follow up phone, even if you buy the 'newest' it doesnt take long for a successor to come along or at least the rumours. With the Oneplus One you are still getting great value for money, stable CM11S, CM12S due shortly (definitely), along with OxygenOS and lot of other custom ROMs to pick from. Not to mention the obvious like nexus-easy bootloader unlock and root.
You can also now get a OPO relatively easy, plenty of invites knocking about or just purchase directly every Tuesday. I imagine its going to be pretty hard to get hold of an invite for the Oneplus Two when its released, as I'm guessing it will be invite only for the first while, so factor that into your thoughts around waiting time/availabilty.
I've had the Galaxy S4, HTC One M8 and Nexus 5 all within the last 5 months and overall the OPO is better than them all. Theres no added bloat, no difficulty/warranty issues unlocking the bootloader, solid stock CM and as many custom ROMs as you like and the battery life is fantastic. In terms of the nexus 5, its basically a nexus 6 for those who were underwhelmed by the nexus 6, in terms of large (without being too large) screen, great battery life (non 2k screen), decent camera and very reasonable price.

Question, Thinking about buying S6, but selling in the future to fund for Note 5

So, I've never sold my phones before, but the thing is, I really want to move over to the phablet side of things, and I want to get the note 5. The Note 5 is slated for a q3 release. My upgrade is due already (have a HTC m7) and since I pretty much put my HTC out of commission, I'm using my Blackberry from like 2009 as my current phone.
Main question is, If I buy the s6 and sell it in like 5 months tops, what would I get for it?
It's hard to say to be honest. Since they'll be a lot of S6 devices sold the resale value is likely to be lower, like other Galaxy devices in the past. Supply and demand after all.
On the other hand the build quality is much better than previous devices and it's likely to be higher than previous years.
I'm in the same boat as you, I am intrigued by the S6, and possibly the G4, but I know the Note 5 will likely be even better.
Both are great devices (Note 4 lollipop update killed my battery life). As someone who has gone from phone to phablet then back again, I can tell you that selling your galaxy phone on ebay, CL etc can be pretty disappointing. If you pay full price today, in 6 months you could probably pull $350 selling it... at least that's been my experience. Either way, good luck, and the GS6 has been great for me so far so you can't go wrong there.
I would agree with the above post. I am guessing that in 6 months you'll probably be able to get 350 to 450 for the GS6. That's really not bad, but you'll be paying about 200 for using the device for 6 months.

Yep all the above post are accurate the note probably holds the most value of any android phone. Truth is because of so many releases android phones don' keep value well, in about 2 month you'll start seeing s6 pop up used for around 450-475 probably by the fall when the note 5 comes for a mint condition s6 32gb you'd get about 400 probably

Buying Nexus 5 today

Guys, there is time to change my Xperia mini PRO.
I am curious your opionion about idea of buying Nexus 5 today. Price is about 190$. Is it a good idea?
Do you know better phones at this price? This Marshmallow on N5 and bad reviews of N5x pushing me to N5.
Second question is about American version of N5 (D820). Does anybody use this model in Europe? Will this model work in Europe?
Thanks for answers.
I still have my N5 even though I've upgraded to an N6, and I would not hesitate to recommend the N5, especially if you can get it at a good price.
I've got Marshmallow on it, and the Doze feature seems to work well - I last charged it on 11th October, a week ago, and with the occasional check on it to make sure that the battery's ok it has dropped by only 21% to 79%, with an estimated 25 days left. That's with airplane mode on, of course, but still great performance.
The screen is still terrific, performance is great, and looking back I probably shouldn't have bought the N6 - I reckon that the N5 can still stand up to most of the flagship phones around today.
The added bonus of course is that you always have the latest version of the ROM, long before other vendors provide it.
Me, I'd definitely say go for it.
I just bought my second N5 on ebay for $185.
It was always one of my favorite phones. Bought it to use marshmellow.

Is the upgrade worth it?

So im thinking abut upgrading to the nexus 5x or 6p. However im very undecided at the moment. I ordered the 5X (32gb) and twenty minutes later canceled the order and went with the 6p (64gb aluminum). Now after looking through the nexus 6p forums i canceled that order as well.
From what i have read the nexus 5x lags and and nexus 6p has some display issues and reception issues.
and i really don't want to deal with either of those things. My nexus 5 has been great for the two years that i have owned it , i did have issues with the power button but that was fixed by LG.
So i don't know what to do , do i wait or just say forget it and order the Nexus 6p which would seem like a true upgrade. The phablet size and issues listed above are my main concerns lol
There are several reasons why I still own a Nexus 5. IMO it's not worth the upgrade until Snapdragon 820 and an acceptable pricing policy (euro zone).
My Nexus 5 has the perfect screen size, is fast and is running the latest available Android version.
QED
I would get / keep the nexus 6 2014.. It's a beast phone that I use everyday.. Runs stock 6.0.1 marshmallow.. And is fast as the 6p when first nothing installed... Snapdragon 810 for 2.7ghz Quad Core so no lag.. And 3gb ram for multitasking... And 3450ish mAH for all day heavy usage.. The new ones are priced really high. But the nexus 6 its 300 rn.. So not a good idea to upgrade rn bro
Thanks for the replys, I decide to stick with my nexus 5 for a bit longer. As tempting as the pricing is $499 for 64gb 6p and 379$ for the 32gb 5x.. Don't want to give or sell my nexus 5, and feel like it would be a waste to have it as a backup phone just yet. Lol

I just purchased a used Nexus 5 and I'm totally satisfied with both the aesthetics and performance. It is still a versatile phone in 2015, and for the price of a used unit, it is much better than most mid-range devices in the same price range. Also I love the updates and the ton of custom roms to play with
