My note pro has 4.4 KitKat on it.
OTA does not find any new update for it.
Is it possible that Kies will find an update for it if it has no OTA update?
I am quite sure that an update through OTA won't cost me the warranty .
BUT...
what If i make an update through Kies , will i loose the warranty for the tablet? (i still have two years of warranty left)
I am asking before installing Kies , i don't want to waste my time on it if kies won't have an update that OTA don't have or if it will cost me the warranty .
maybe another question...
how do i find out when an update through OTA to android 5 will be available to my note pro 12.2 p900
Thanks.
Is your Note Pro carrier specific? If so which is it? I have a Verizon Note Pro without any service, but the sim card was inside when I was able to get an OFFICIAL OTA update. Just get a deactivated BUT functional SIM card from your carrier. Keep your WiFi on until an update is found.
KIES is an official Samsung tool for managing backups and updates. You won't lose warranty if you use it.
As for updates, you can keep an eye on the updates list for the P900 on Sammobile. http://www.sammobile.com/firmwares/database/SM-P900/
OTA's are bound by IMEI and CSC, not SIM. You can run an OTA over WiFi as well, it doesn't depend on carrierconnection or location.
Can you install Phone Info ( https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=org.vndnguyen.phoneinfo ) and take a look at the CSC?
Thanks
My Tablet just let me know that there is an update ready for 5.0.2
BUT
I ordered bluetooth headphones 4.1 model QCY QY8
I read that people had problem with bluetooth connectivity in the updated firmware , when they could not use their bluetooth keyboard any more.
I want the updated firmware mainly for screen recording app, so i can record drawing demos.
could the update prevent me from using the headphones with the tablet?
the big question is.., to update? or not to update?
To me updating to LP on the Note Pro in order to get the improved multiwindow support whereby one can go from fullscreen to windowed view and back using gestures/menus was well worth it. If you don't use multiwindow at all then maybe that's not a motivation . .

I use the floating window (browser) over drawing apps for reference , i never turn the floating window to full screen (not because i don't want to) because there is no going back to floating window.
If i can go back to floating window from full screen in 5.0.2 then it's another big plus.
I only fear that it won't work with bluetooth headphones anymore

Fair enough, only you can decide whether or not it's worth the risk or compromise. While not impossible it is probably unlikely that someone with a note pro on this forum has the same set of headphones.
what if i do the update through the ota and ending not liking it...
is there going back to 4.2.2?
will a reset of the tablet back to factory settings after the update , bring back the original version that came with the tablet, or just bring a clean updated 5.0.2?
Just back to 5.0.2.

Well I picked this up at Sears today for $380 with a mail i rebate for the docking station. I tried to update the firmware and kept getting a failure, talked to tech support and changed some settings. The update still failed and tech support suggested charging for 24 hours, they claim this will help. I have used the G Tab with stock software and it seems really fast. I won't download any apps until the software is updated, supposedly this update will fix some major bugs. I think I'm going to like this tablet once the someware is updated.
Regards!
Ed
Two suggestions:
1- Charge it (in that, I agree with customer service)
2- Update the stock firmware as soon as it's charge (not a mod, just a newer stock update). The reason why is that there are bugs in the original firmware where the system may freeze, which you want to avoid.
3- Wipe your user data. It really helps with a lot of user issues, like force closes.
Well I turned on my tablet tonight and it was ready to install the update and did it successfully. I can see the difference in performance already. I'm happy so far and how do you wipe the user data? Also another question about a game called bejeweled. I tried to download and the site was asking which device I was using to confirm compatability....viewsonic wasn't listed so I could not download so now what do I do?
Thanks!
Ed
Settings -- Security. I would recommend it, before you start installing apps - if you already have installed apps, then no harm no foul.
When I upgraded my unrooted, encrypted TF700 to JB it froze and I had to do a factory reset. The reset automatically put JB on it and it worked again. Once JB was installed and working I tried to re-encrypt and it froze again. I now suspect that JB simply won't work with encryption on my tablet. Has anyone else had this experience as well? If so, have you found a resolution to this problem?
I value encryption more than the last upgrade to JB and if there's no fix to the encryption issue, then I would like to know how to roll back to ICS.

The encryption feature does not work with JB on this device. It's a disaster. Many ppl here had this problem and they escalated to Asus tech support, but they have no clue as of yet. So for now everyone should stay away from encryption. If you prefer encryption over JB, you could flash back a full .30 version, just keep your finger cross, because we don't know what's going happens. Since you are pure stock and locked, I assumed it should be OK.

thanks for your quick reply. I'm not that advanced at things like rooting devices or flashing back, which is why I like the factory restore feature. So I don't think I'll go too far in trying to flash back. That leaves me with needing to wait until they fix this problem and finding apps or other workarounds to secure my most sensitive information. That means I need to wait until ASUS gets around to fixing it and check back often for updates. This is the first place I'll be looking.
If anyone who reads this gets this problem fixed, please post a solution or link to where you found it here.

@Buhohitr, you seem to have a lot of experience and awareness of this problem. Is this encryption an ASUS customization of Android, or is it built into the Android platform, and which company is more likely to issue an update to fix it? (From what you said, it doesn't sound like ASUS is paying attention.)
If experience is any indicator, will all of us most likely have to wait until the next version of android (Key Lime Pie?) to even hope for this to be resolved? Thanks.

Asus will be the one with the fix, there are many cases opened with them so hopefully they are aware of the issue. You should give them a call (tech support) and tell them the whole story with encryption. This is my suggestion.

I've taken your advice and found where to let ASUS know about the problem directly. If many alert the company, they will have to take notice. I recommend that others also request attention to this problem by contacting technical support at this link on their support site - it's for requesting technical support by email and online chat is also an option:

Any news from Asus? I upgraded my encrypted TF700 to JB before I found this thread.
Now I have a very expensive picture frame showing the ASUS logo.
Edit:
Downgrading works to 9.4.5.30 works. (Recovery via SD-card, the card doesn't need to be empty, just put the file correctly named into the root)

If your tablet is still frozen, have you not tried a factory reset, or you tried it and it didn't work? If you haven't done a factory reset it's worth doing. At least maybe get the tablet working until ASUS fixes the JB encryption issue.
JB and encryption with firmware update 10.4.4.18
More about this encryption issue. I just updated to firmware version 10.4.4.18. I asked ASUS support by email whether this update will address the encryption problem because I want to know before trying to re-encrypt.
I got back this reply by email about what's included in the update, and it's not conclusive:
The JellyBean update these functions.
(1) App Backup AP upgrade
- Add App Guide feature
(2) Email AP upgrade

- Add Partial download feature
- Add rush hour settings
- Add Out-Of-Office Settings
(3) Weather Widget upgrade
- Add 4-days weather forecast

Yes, I've successfully encrypted my TF700 and completed a cold boot after the encryption. I'm on firmware version 10.4.4.18 (US SKU).
Everything seems to be working fine. But compared to .18 unencrypted, there is a noticeable lag on almost everything: boot time, updating of widgets (especially after a cold boot), launching of apps, etc. I'd say that I'm back to the lag that I had when I was running .30 ICS encrypted...not that I noticed it until I ran JB. Anyway, encryption trumps a slight lag for me so I'm a happy camper!
Good luck with your encryption!

I took a leap and tried encrypting my JB with the 10.4.4.18 firmware update and it works without freezing. Ironically, today the next firmware update came in 10.4.4.20. I don't think I'll wait so long to update this time, but I hope that encryption continues to work with 10.4.4.20.
Update: .20 is on and it's working with the update and encryption.
Hello,
I wanted to share what I had to do in order to fix my phone after it took the July 27 OTA update. The update somehow corrupted my display and the white portions of the display were now pink and red. A google search has info and pics on this display problem so I won't elaborate on it. The first thing I tried was power cycling the phone, the red and pink remained. The next thing I tried was factory reset the device, that didn't work either. I simply wanted to revert back to the previous firmware and hopefully that would fix it. I liked the new firmware features, but that pink screen had to go! I foolishly flashed the US unlocked firmware (XAA) from SamMobile site with Odin. The pink screen probem was fixed but this definately was not the firmware that came on this phone. Gear VR didn't work, Samsung pay was borked, and there were all types of problems with the software.
At this point I called Samsung Tech Support. The guy was really nice and after a bit of explaining he offered to have the phone flashed at no cost to me. However I would have to send the phone in to be repaired and I would be without my device for a week at least, maybe 2 weeks. I thanked him and hung up. Why couldn't he simply make the firmware available to me so I could fix this without having to send it in and be without my phone for over a week. Not really a acceptable solution. I went online and did some reading. That's when I found the fix!
To anyone who is having problems and would simply like to get back to original factory firmware Samsung has a program called " Smart Switch ". It's available as a App for your phone or as a PC software program. The phone app helps sync devices, but the PC program can do much more. I'm not going to go over in detail how to use the software because a google search has videos and tutorials on how to use it. For me I was able to enter my phone model and serial number and Smart Switch went and downloaded the "correct factory firmware" and installed it to my phone. Now I have the latest firmware (7/27) full factory install and the pink / red display problem is gone. So what I'm getting at is if you are having problems after taking the OTA update like I did, you can try using Smart Switch and install the complete factory firmware from scratch to your device. Make sure to follow instruction on how to use the program, I had to put the phone into download mode for it to work for me. Also be sure you understand about "Google lock" before flashing your phone. This program claims it can un-brick a Samsung phone, and will also over-write a rooted phone to get it back to stock. I'm sure Smart Switch has been discussed before, but for a new Samsung user (like myself) it sure got me out of a bind!
Hi,i'm new on huawei. I need help to test the upgrade Oreo on a Mate 9. But i read that method needs Unlock bootloader actually or pay a lot funkyhuawei for credits. And other thread doesn't seems very simple to understand. The mate 9 in question is c432 european variant. I need this upgrade because on the latest upgrades:battery is horrible for 4000 mah (needs 2 charge on a day often ), sometimes phone remains with black screen and doesn't start (it needs forced reset), ui crash sometimes crash randomly, speakerphone sometimes breaks mic (and sometimes not), bluetooth sometimes on car doesn't work on mediaplayer and notifications sometimes arrive a lot later (i disable autoclose for all apps) . I tried a reset from recovery but it doesn't change a thing. What should i do? Oreo can fix those things? Because is a shame that a high end(and overvalueted in my opinion) phone have this horrible problems. Thank you and sorry for noob questions.

I'm not sure if Oreo will fix all your problems, but only way to install it is: apply to beta and get in (not sure if it's still open), use HWOTA which requires bootloader unlocked or funkyhuawei. Those are your options, or wait for release of course.

I try some weeks ago on beta ,but they cancelled the subscribe after almost 3 weeks who i send the request. This is really sad. Funky huawei doesn't need unlock bootloader ?but i read that you must pay to do something(and it is a shame..fw upgrade with money?it is android?)A hint to solve problems? It isn't mine(but of my GF) but i try everything .Sometimes phone, when it recieve calls doesn't ring or ring only last 5 seconds. All of those problems are a shame for a high end phone with high price.

Oreo will not help with your issues.
Try another factory reset, DON'T install any apps and see if it keeps happening. If it does, send your Mate to a repair centre. Might be a defective device (rare, but happens).

Oh well. I must try it by myself, but I think is almost impossible because it is of my gf and I must convince her to try to do a little change to try it. Thanks for reply I wait another answer. I try 4 resets. But same problems.
i use a new C432 (B197) No sync; no W-Lan; 2G; no BT; No NFC; 130 apk’s installed and have 0.2%/h battery drain- = ~5%/24! This is only 30% of my older LG G5.
If it is not possible to solve this problem with a factory reset, return it to the store you have buy it. If this is not possible, everything else will have a high risk to get a paper weight!
(After my own experiences, i would try to flash the full stock rom image xx29c432b198. But i can not recommand this way to somebody else, if he do non know more about this procedure)

You can download the beta oreo for your mate 9 from the following website:
http://pro-teammt.ru/firmware-database/?firmware_model=MHA-L29&firmware_page=0
Extract the update.app from the zip file. Create a folder "dload" on your sdcard. Turn off the phone and press power+volume up+volume down at the same time for the software to be updated even with locked bootloader. I do not think your phone's problem will be solved just by the software update. However you can always try to update your phone to oreo.

No you can't. dload only works with "offline" firmware (https://forum.xda-developers.com/mate-9/development/rom-service-roms-t3693545).
Did you buy it new ? How old is it ? is it for your region ? Why have you not contacted Huawei ?
I find the Oreo update to be an absolute disaster and I want to downgrade my Mate 9 to the latest N build for MHA-L29. The horrible bleutooth audio issues making my music sound like crap, notifications from WhatsApp muting my music even when it's on silenced, weird problems where the screen will suddenly up its contrast out of nowhere & the screen briefly having the brightness all the way up when I unlock it and then going to the setting it was put on has made it a nightmare for daily use.
I asked it to somebody in a thread about the developer options for Bluetooth audio not sticking and he told me the HiSuite app is the way to go to safely downgrade without voiding your warranty. I googled it and then downloaded the zip file from the official Huawei website:
http://consumer.huawei.com/minisite/HiSuite_en/
However, when I try to run the .exe file my windows 10 virus detection goes off, saying it's some kind of Trojan. I downloaded it from another source, but I didn't see an option for downgrading anywhere. It said it was version 1.0 so I suspect it being an old version was the cause, but I don't feel comfortable force running the exe from the updated one from Huawei now.
If someone could help me figure out how to get this solved I would be very grateful because right now I'm really hating this phone. I'll come back to Oreo once Huawei gets their stuff done right.

Hi,
It's very easy to get back to N version with HiSuite. Just install it from http://consumer.huawei.com/minisite/HiSuite_en/ . If your antivirus tells you it's a problem, then the problem is with your antivirus. If you manage to install HiSuite, connect the phone and select the option UPDATE. It will tell you that you already have the latest version, but it will also give you the oportunity to reinstal the latest stable version, meaning N. Select that option and everything is fixed. You just have to wait for it to be installed.

Anyone get the feeling Oreo is going to be sort of like Kit-Kat with Huawei? On my Mate2, they just gave up, skipped kit kat because of the issues, and went to Lollipop.
From what I remember, they also had BT and other issues with kit kat. Jellybean was flat stable, and so was lollipop, but on the Mate2 forums of XDA, kit kat was a flop.
Personally, the only issues I've had with Oreo on my Mate9 (USA version), is once in a while it won't connect with the Ford Sync system on my Mustang, and lack of notifications, but, I don't entirely blame that on Oreo...I had it with Nougat also.

lack of notifications is the main issue I was having, I changed the "Launch" settings to manual and that has resolved about 90% of my issues
I had several apps that broke.
I just used the HiSuite method to downgrade, but restoring my backups was a real pain.
