US MSN Phone hack - where to get ?

I think I had found in this forum a thread on howto use the built in msn client of a us phone with a foreign simcard (doesnt work normally because tmobile sends this messages via sms and charges you I think).
I searched now for 30 minutes and I cant find the thread anymore, or the page where the modification was described (it works, I have done it one my phone, then it sends messages via data). Any help from you ? Perhaps someone knows the website ?
Thanks
Hate to break this to you, but the built in MSN client uses WIFI.... or the built in data plan.... there shouldn't be anything regarding SMS I think? I could be totally wrong though....
But I have it working without the SMS function....
Aism
meeker, you are right, the msn client does not use messaging.

It seems that when using a non-T-Mobile SIM card, the built-in MSN client wouldn't work, giving a strange message saying it cannot read the phone number from the SIM card, and refuse to sign in to the server.
I'd love to know if anyone has a solution to this as I sometimes need to use IM over EDGE/GPRS when I am on the road.

Update: I think I found the link with information about a solution.

@Keyser.Soze
Many many thanks for the link, that was exactly what I tried to find. Again: Thank you !
Happy new year !
I have tried to follow the instructions featured in this link:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/archive/index.php/t-452364.html
However, when I tried to use the command "cat /sdcard/IM.odex > /system/app/IM.odex"
The system will give me an error message: "write : no space left on device"]
I am using the modded RC30 firmware version 1.2 and would appreciate it if anyone can give me some advice on this. Thanks in advance!
KS
Strange, worked here.
did you remove the usb cord as told in the manual ? Dont know if that can be the reason....
I have a tmobile sim card but without the specific g1 data plan..and I have the same issue. Also I don't have a g1 with root permissions but only factory R30 firmware.
So no solutions for me?lol
Thanks Christian
hi
are you guys sure that t-mobile dont use messaging when sending messages in msn messenger?
because i had the unlimited data plan and 400 txt messages before and everytime i use msn messenger i checked online for the txt messages used and i had the exact amount left that i used on msn messenger
but only in msn messenger, yahoo and aol, not on the gtalk app.
so i had to switch to unlimited txt messages .

if you have a g1 plan then it should not be using text messaging, the text messaging MSN messenger program itself hasnt been installed on devices for quite some time.

I found out what the problem was and it was that /system ran out of free space. After re-flashing to the modded RC8 firmware, I had some free space and was able to copy IM.odex to /system/app. However, after rebooting when I tried to launch IM, it will just go back to the desktop after a couple of seconds. I will try to download the modified IM.odex again and see if I had a corrupted one by accident...

@Keyser.Soze:
Any luck installing it? Did you tried with RC8 Jesusfreke v1.3?

I updated to v1.3 today and I noticed that there's more free space in /system. I was able to copy IM.odex to /system/app but after reboot I still get the same result: the IM program won't launch now and will throw me back to the desktop in a second. Don't know what's wrong...
Hmm, i wonder if we can get in contact with the original poster... he didnt really describe how he made/patched IM.odex to make it work. Perhaps its a version problem atm?
MSN does use txt messages just got my bill for 160$ i had the g1 unlimited data plan with 400 txt msgs
should i call t-mobile?
Just tried this myself and its not working for me either.
Currently using JF's RC8 and it just starts to open the IM app then closes and goes back to the home straight away... would really like to get this working.

I'm in Canada, and my Phone has never touched T-mobile's networks.... (SP1 here, Activated by forcing Wifi) That said, I haven't had any problems with it, nor have I had SMS messages being used? That said, I don't have a data plan so I only connect by Wifi..... soooo your experiences may vary?
Meeker
I was having the same issue before and I just tried this fix and it worked perfectly. I have JF mod30 v1.3 installed and now I can log into msn fine.
But there is a reason that people are using rc8 instead of rc30... (because they dont want myfaves $$$)
Did anyone tried this hack on the ADP1?
I am pretty certain that the built in MSN client will work over WiFi, but not over a cellular IP data connection (GPRS, 3G etc).
I'm in the UK and I have an unlocked US device. When connected via WiFi, the MSN client will log in and work correctly, but if I disconnect from the WiFi network it will complain that it cannot read the phone number from my UK sim card.
Therefore, I believe that it designed to use SMS messages when it cannot connect via WiFi so that the operators can derive some revenue from it.

Dave

I have one,but the other phone must have this software also, and this soft ware's language is simple chinese.
when the wifi is active it uses more battery so away from home its no use
the one place you can really save cash on the bill is using skype or messenger over wifi - if you know the person is online at home or on his/her mobile..
i got unlimeted data - and most friends text me on messenger instead of sms
but any ways it depends on what most of your friends use
You had a option in D2 to send sms via gsm or gprs.

T-Mobile and texting on a PC

Hi,
I know outlook has an option to send text messages so i was wondering if there was some way to get my windows 8 laptop to receive text messages? Possible through a bit of Arduino hardware and programing? Also I have a dell laptop with the ability to hold a SIM card, could I perhaps use that and Windows 8? Heres what I have for any ideas you guys might have:
dell precision m6600 with windows 8 64-bit
office 2013 beta and 2010
HTC HD7 on T-Mobile US
Easiest way? Set up your free Google voice phone number and use that for free international texting to any phone. If you use chrome, you can pin it as an app and put the chrome app for Voice on your startscreen.
You could always use the app "Mighty Text" Made by ex-google programmers.
I know i could use a few online services, but im talking about using my real number i have through T-Mobile right now.

How to install whatsapp on nexus 7 without rooting

How do I install whatsapp on my nexus 7 4G without rooting?
check out here
Easier Way To Get Whatsapp on Your Nexus 7
I think theres an easier way to do this...just follow the following steps:-
1. Download Text Me! Free Texting & Call app from the playstore. Im a new user so i cant really post links, but just search google generlly. Since literally google knows everything...
2. Fill out all the details and and get the new phone number assigned to your nexus 7.
3. Download the Whatsapp apk for your Nexus 7...this can be downloaded directly from the whatsapp official website.
4. After installing and opening the app, select your country and use the phone number from the Text Me! app as the number for the Whatsapp application.
5. Wait a few minutes, an SMS would be sent to your Text Me! app. Ignore this and wait for the Whatsapp to give the 'SMS verification failed" message..."thats not all"...
6.Select the Call option...and wait for the voicemail on the Text Me! app...listen to the voicemail for the code and insert into the space...and there you have it...Whatsapp on your Nexus 7.
This should work even if you have the app on your phone. All you have to do is ignore the SMS verification and use the voicemail or call option.

[Q] Free worldwide texing over Wifi, 3G and 4G any developers intrested in making

Dear Developers
Is there any developers out there please who is willing to make an app that we can send text messages worldwide using our mobile phone number over WiFi, 3G and 4G.
Make the app available on Google playstore and apple app store please or if its for android make the apk available to install
I'm from UK London
I have found two apps that work on android and apple app store is 24sms works not all the time sms are sent and I was using blacbocs nearly two days then the app stopped working cause the when i try to get the verification code via SMS its says error before they sent me the code to enter then I enter the code I to the app then it was good to use.
The free text messaging should recognize our mobile number or we input the number in the app so the app recognizes it and verifies its that number we are using.
If I send a text from UK London to any countires they should receive my text instantly.
For developers I think the making the app dose not require that much work on it becuase just the case of you routing the making the text messaging go via data connection.
PLEASE PLEASE we need something like that at the moment there are some apps claiming to send free SMS worldwide but that don't work all the time.
I got an apk file called Namaste free SMS this works sends using my mobile number but sends same text twice without my number second text containing I like to phone as the sender first text contains my number as sender.
Here is the apk file upfile.mobi/373931 if any developers can modify or improve the app or chage the look and feel and remove the second text that sends sender i like to phone click on download next to the green arrow facing down
