Whatsapp is a very popular application among smartphone users. However, the owners of WiFi tablet devices are just not allowed to enjoy this application as it does not accept the installation on such devices.
Here I will give you (with the help of God) a sure and easy way to get around this ban and run Whatsapp on these devices.
This method works with all kinds of devices for all versions of Android.
This method is driven and modified from the application: “Whatsapp instalar en tablet” by Gonzalo de Cordoba.
Requirements:
WiFi Android tablet willing to run Whatsapp on.
Any Android mobile to help in the installation process.
A mobile number to register Whatsapp (and also can register with a landline number)
Method:
First: From the mobile
Install application "GO Contacts EX" from the play market.
Install application "App Backup & Restore" and run it then search for "GO Contact EX" and put a tick and then look for “Whatsapp” as well as put a tick, and then press “Backup” below.

}
Then go to “Archived” tab where you will find the two applications.
Long press the "GO Contact EX" until the options menu appears.
Chose "Send" and then send an e-mail.
Then do the same for the other application "Whatsapp" and thus two E-mails are sent that you will receive later from the tablet.
Second: from the tablet
Make sure to activate the option "install from unknown sources" from the Android security settings (look around for this option because it is misplaced in different versions of Android).
Open the first E-mail sent earlier from Mobile and download the attached file which is an installation file with extension "apk". Open to install the application "GO Contacts EX" on the tablet.
After that open the other E-mail that contains whatsapp application in the attachment and open it to install Whatsapp on the tablet.
Congratulations, Whatsapp is on and ready.
Notes:
When you open Whatsapp, a mobile number is required to activate it and it will check the number with an SMS message or a phone call. You can also use a landline number and complete the number of digits with zeros after the number and use a phone call verification.
Contacts management is made through "GO Contact EX". A new name can be added to Whatsapp by sending a message to a contact from the contacts manager.
We used "GO Contact EX" application to synchronize contacts with Whatsapp and if it was not accepted by your mobile phone, you can use any application that manages contacts such as "Xphone Free".

It didn't work for me either. Appgaurd was unable to re install Whatsapp after uninstall.
Apparently, this method is working for some people.
No harm from trying it.

I tried to install Whatsapp on two different tablets on the same day,
the older one succeed (without any contact manager), android 4.0.3
but the newer one with dual core and higher resolution failed, android 4.11.
Is there anything to do with the android version?

As this thread reads perfect for the Purpose of running WhatsApp on Android Wifi Tablets which Do Not Have SIM/Calling Facility
and device is not letting them install whatsapp even from APK, I am Adding my working method.
This method requires Root Access, so the phone must be *Rooted*
Use it on your own risk, I am not expert/developer who could fix your mess if you wrongly handled system files.
I Own a Micromax Funbook P300 but this should work fine with most tablets which are SIM Less and uses wifi for connectivity.
1). Install build.prop editor from Playstore, better if you have skype installed too, helps in contact management.
2). Make a Backup of your existing "build.prop" file from "/system/" folder.
above app backs up, but its better to have your own copy, try using Es File Explorer with root permission to backup.
3). copy whatsApp Installation APK from a phone using Appsaver
4). Open the App. Build.prop Editor from App list and allow it root access.
5). Navigate to line which reads as "ro.product.maufacturer" it would intially be your name of Tab you are having
change this name to "samsung"
6). Scroll down where the line reads "ro.product.model" change this to "GT-I9100"
7). Scroll down where the line reads "ro.product.brand" and change this name to "samsung"
8). Follow this if above fails" Scroll down where the line reads "ro.telephony.check.sim" and change this to "0" (Zero)
Save and exit, Reboot Your Tablet.
Once boot up is completed, Make sure you have allowed installation of "Non-Market APK" from settings-->Security
and install the Whatsapp APK.
It will get installed without a error.
Once Installation is completed open Whatsapp and agree to terms and input a phone number of yours where you can either recieve a call
or the SMS, wait for SMS on the provided number else, let the application ask you to do phone verification,
If this choose SMS verification, most probably you'll get a SMS from +44 number and few moments later a screen on your Tablet to input the Verification code which is already sent by SMS
If you choose Phone call verification you have to hear and type the code for activation.
Once activated, you can ask a friend to send you a msg using Whatsapp and you are good to go.
for more advanced users, If you have skype installed, mostly you would get "Add a contact" option with ability to create the contact Using your "Gmail" account and you can save the persons name who sent you the Message on Whatsapp.
If you have skype installed(need not be running) You can also create a new contact from whatsapp main screen, options, contacts, and "Add contact Icon of the page"
Enjoy the Whatsapp on Bigger Screen of your TAB using wifi........
however playstore may not list this in "My App" tab, and you might not be able to use whatsapp widget.

whatsapp on android tablet
thank you!
what about using whatsapp with the same phonenumber on android mobile phone and android tablet on the same time, or like this: one is disabled when the other works. is it possible or do we have to get another number to register with?
is it even possible to merge several whatsapp contacts to one, so when a message will be sent, it's send it to all of the devices of that contact?
could someone explain how it works, like server-client-requests etc would be nice if someone could give some info.
thanks for the thread and the tutorial(s)
how do you send normal sms on google nexus 5. only have hangouts and it "invites"
when i select a contact it does an "Invite" request. what happemend to the normnal sms system?
please advise
first time user of nexus series
you need to search the contacts with the number phone , not the hangout
Yeah the normal phone numbers appear to be under your circle friends from g+.
I think the new messaging is pretty sweet and looks a lot better than the old stock format just take a little to get used to.
Sent from my Nexus 5 using xda app-developers app
If you want the 'normal' sms function then you will need to get a third party sms client (I'm using Handcent without any problem). Once you download, it is simply a case of selecting which service you want to use as your default.
It gives you the option if you want to send it through hangouts or SMS (for each individual contact)
Sent from my Nexus 5 using Tapatalk
You all are making this WAY too complicated.
In Hangouts, press the + button. Search for the contact that you want to send an SMS message to (note, they must be in your People app for this to work). Simply look for the little bubble that says SMS next to the proper contact, click that, and voila.
Variantly, you can go to the People app, click the person you want to text, and then click on the little message symbol and it will pop you into a new message thread for that person.
I really don't like the G+ integration in Hangouts, as I don't use G+ at all. But I'll live with it.
Dear Developers
Is there any developers out there please who is willing to make an app that we can send text messages worldwide using our mobile phone number over WiFi, 3G and 4G.
Make the app available on Google playstore and apple app store please or if its for android make the apk available to install
I'm from UK London
I have found two apps that work on android and apple app store is 24sms works not all the time sms are sent and I was using blacbocs nearly two days then the app stopped working cause the when i try to get the verification code via SMS its says error before they sent me the code to enter then I enter the code I to the app then it was good to use.
The free text messaging should recognize our mobile number or we input the number in the app so the app recognizes it and verifies its that number we are using.
If I send a text from UK London to any countires they should receive my text instantly.
For developers I think the making the app dose not require that much work on it becuase just the case of you routing the making the text messaging go via data connection.
PLEASE PLEASE we need something like that at the moment there are some apps claiming to send free SMS worldwide but that don't work all the time.
I got an apk file called Namaste free SMS this works sends using my mobile number but sends same text twice without my number second text containing I like to phone as the sender first text contains my number as sender.
Here is the apk file upfile.mobi/373931 if any developers can modify or improve the app or chage the look and feel and remove the second text that sends sender i like to phone click on download next to the green arrow facing down
Hi guys in today I will tell you that how you can use WhatsApp Without a phone number. This can help you if you don't want to share your number when talking with some unknown person or just in case you don't have a sim card but want to use WhatsApp.
Steps:-
First You Have To Download An App Called "Primo" From Playstore.
Then Open The App and sign up for a account and they will also ask you to give your phone while signing up for a account, You can but if you don't want to you can skip it.
Then click on The add phone Option. Then you will get a USA number just note it down somewhere because We will be using it for our new WhatsApp account.
So now open WhatsApp and enter that number and next.
Now it will show you an error that they can't send you sms for verification, just use the call verification.
Now you will receive a call on your primo app and they will tell you that verification code. Just enter that code in WhatsApp.

But can use it for emergency purpose
you should try fmwhatsapp which is valid for these cases.
Update, April 5, 2019: you can now make calls with Google voice.
1. Open the app, tap the phone icon then the dialer on the bottom right.
2. If it doesn't work, go into settings by tapping lines at top left. Make sure you are set to receive calls, disconnect hangouts if you haven't.
3. Make sure you set your preference to use Wi-Fi to make calls.
4. Restart app, go back to step one.
**********************************************************
****OLD METHOD****
I'm making this post because this worked surprisingly well. Call clarity is near perfect and there's little to no delay whatsoever. To be honest, I wasn't expecting this to work well on this tablet let alone any other ones.
Google recently revamped Google Voice and Hangouts which all but combined the two apps into one. If you already have a Google account, you can easily sign up to use Google voice here. To use this feature you'll need to do so. Once you've done so, you're literally a few steps away from receiving and making phone calls. Also install Activity Launcher if you haven't already done so.
1) It's not required, but it is helpful to download and install Google Contacts.
2) Download and install Google Voice (once you've gotten a Voice number). You can now send SMS messages to anyone with a regular phone number and you can also receive texts from any phone number. You can also now setup voicemail which will then allow anyone to call your Voice number and leave you a voice message. In the next steps, you'll be able to answer those phone calls and even make them!
3) Download and install Google Hangouts and Hangouts Dialer. No additional sign-up is needed. You should be automatically signed in when opening Hangouts. In Hangouts tap the three bars at the top left and select settings and tap your account if signed in.
4) Scroll to the Google Voice section and select the option to 'receive incoming phone calls.' Otherwise incoming calls will be directed to the voicemail you just setup in the Voice app. Voice will transcribe the message for you, if able to do so and you can listen to and read them right from the Voice app. In the next option, if you so desire, you can select to receive messages in Hangouts that are sent to your Voice number.
5) Using Activity Launcher, tap top left, all activities, scroll to 'Media Storage' and select the 'Hangouts Call' as your ringtone (It should currently be set to none). If you select the 'default ringtone' no sound will be played so you have to select the Hangouts tone. (If you figure out how to add more ringtones, please post a reply with the steps to do so. I've not gotten that far or even know if you can do so).
6) Now have someone call your new number. You should be able to answer the call on your tablet. Now open hangouts and select the dialer. You can now call any number you want, for free, provided you're on a good WiFi network.
You can setup the apps up to your liking, but you won't be able to get calls through the Voice app anymore. In older versions, Voice had it's own dialer, or used the one built into your phone/device if there was one. In the Voice app you can also decide if you want voicemail messages forwarded to your Gmail.
Note: If you have a working telephone number already, you can link it through Voice. I currently don't have cellular service and haven't for some time so you'll have to figure out that part on your own
This is awesome.

You'll have to look for the thread on how to install Google Play and the services for it. Once you do that, you can install Hangouts and Hangouts dialer. This works on both the fire 7 and HD 8.
When you sign up for a Google voice number, it asks for a real number for verification and to link the account to. Once you setup the Google Voice app, you can delete the linked number.
Thanks for the tips. I am now able to place and receive calls using the Hangouts apps. Call volume is very low even though call volume setting is near max. Would be interested in link to last Google Voice app that did have built in dialer.
Hello, have the 2018 Hd 8. Installed Play, additional 3 Google apks. YouTube working, hijacklauncher 2.1, Google now launcher, Play store working. I installed Hangouts (minus voice because it's Canada). Just trying to use app to app text and call, this hd 8 is my daughter's. She can call me and text me from the Hangouts app but when I call her or text it doesn't notify even if I have her Hangouts open. When I end call it then shows missed on her Fire. Settings in Hangouts are all on for ring and notification. All Hangouts app permissions are granted. I installed on her old Asus tablet and it rings with same settings. Am I missing some steps, is this blocked now from Google on Fire?

Amazon commented out the code in the Settings APK so you can't set a default sms messenger. I still haven't been able to figure that out, but I have somewhat of an idea.
I have similar issue, got to load the play store on fire hd 8 (8th generation), but using hangouts to dial numbers returns an error "unexpected account error please try again". Sms, voicemail, videocalls to hangout contacts works.

Maybe try an older version? I'll have to look at the date of the OP and compare it with the release at the time. Also I'm pretty sure you have to have 1 a Google voice number and 2 link that number to a real working one.

In Hangouts settings, there should be toggles. One for messages one for calls. If there isn't anymore, there may not be, download Google voice go into settings and select the option over there. You may need to have both installed. Also make sure you have hangout dialer. And remember you have to have a working, verifiable telephone number to link to Google voice. This needs to be done only once ever so if you don't pay the bill you can keep the Google number for life so long as the linked number isn't recycled.

Well I tried different versions of hangouts and that didn't seem to make receive calls to work. I also tried various versions of google account manager and google service framework, and just got to have the contacts now available when searching in hangouts. While i was testing, noticed that seems that google services are doing sync during a fixed time, due to i don' t get any notification of past texts until i open the app or reopen it. Google mail works, but also with delay. Maybe someone that have hangouts working full on the amazon hd 8 (8th generation) can share the version of hangouts, google account manager and google service framework that is being used or if there is a way to check a setting.
