[Q] SM-G860P on OK1 setting tether_dun_required keeps resetting - Sprint Galaxy S 5 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I have a Sprint Galaxy S5 Sport, and did the OTA update, then rooted. I tried the sqlite method of updating the settings.db but it would revert back to tether_dun_required = 1. I tried using adb "settings global tether_dun_required 0" but, that too resets back to 1 after turning on the hotspot. I have not tried xposed/x tether, since that does not work on stock, and must use CM12. I also tried the wifi tether router app, but that did not work. Anyone else have this issue, or any ideas on how to resolve it? Any help is greatly appreciated. Thank you!

Im having the same problem. I have tried everything. Everything i have tried doesn't work. I have stock root.

Having the same issue with a Samsung Galaxy ON5. There must be a system app resetting the value? How would we find it?

[Solved] edge/gprs

When I first set up my Infuse (stock froyo), mobile internet (EDGE/GPRS...we don't have 3g/4g here yet) was working. Then I rooted and flashed CM7 on it. The net would still work. Then one day, it just freaking stopped working. No APNs were changed, no radio bands were touched...the carrier didn't change anything...it just stopped. I reverted it back to stock using GTG...and double confirmed the APN settings from the carrier. And it still won't work. Restart, flight mode...I've done it all. Many times over. I've tried different APNs from the net. Nothing works. I'm stumped. So is the carrier's tech support
Any idea?
Try changing ROM. Do a clean install, and do not restore any system data or apps.
I went through multiple cm7 builds...with complete formatting of /system and /data and /cache. Then odin'd 2 stock builds

hmmm.... good idea... i'll try the sim in another phone to see if net works
Turned out to be a network issue. They did some backend fixing and resetting. I got the net back.

Pretty sure I messed up my phone and I need some help with possibly fixing it

I followed the super guide (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1762709) to a T and got cm9 on my phone. I was having data issues last night so I downloaded that Phone Info app from the Play Store. I changed some settings to try to improve it. It switched my data over to roaming and I haven't been able to get it out of there. When my phone tries to activate, it tries to go through Metro. Anyone have any idea what this is all about or how to fix it?
I once got stuck on cdma through phone info.. it wouldnt stick to lte ...i had to flash the stock image in odin to fix it.

I'm having the same issue as you. was using CM9 for a while and I think I was messing around with some of the mobile network settings and it never quite worked well again. I used odin to flash to stock rom and nothing. new SIM from verizon store and still nothing.
haven't tried the phone info apk though.

[Q] Tethering on JB (root or non-root)

Ok so I looked around this forum and the Maxx HD forum but it doesn't seem like anyone clearly answered this question...
- I currently use foxfi on 4.0.4 unrooted... If I upgrade to JB OTA, my understanding is that Foxfi will no longer work (until its updated).
- Has the SQL method been proven to work on this and the Maxx HD if you are rooted?
thanks, Scion
I did the SQL method and use the stock tethering app, it works.
Strange though more recently, even before I upgraded to JB and only while tethering, randomly the internet will drop off, then come back on, as if I were enabling/disabling it over and over. I put into airplane mode and out, it fixes it sometimes. Seems random, I can't narrow it down.
I'm in a 4G area if that helps.
Couldn't get SQL to work

So I tried to follow these instructions: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1945274
I'm on Jelly Bean and the "settings storage" folder is empty through SQLlite. Is it because I need to be rooted? I followed the process to go back to ICS and root, then using Voodoo to keep the root, but it seems like it only partially kept root. Voodoo says it worked and connect bot shows the # when I check SU, but TiBackup fails root check and I downloaded a root checker that says I'm not rooted. I'm desperate to get my hotspot working. Any help with this would be great!
Thanks

Portable Wifi Hotspot Error after 4.4.2 update

Anyone else have an error enabling Portable Wifi Hotspot after updating to 4.4.2? When I was on 4.4 everything was working correctly until the update.
I havent tried tethering prior to the 4.4.2 update but today an instance came up to use it and it just gives me an error. Thought it might be carrier blocking but nope. Just did a google search and found this thread so just wanted to say i have the same issue. All on stock rom and kernel btw.
EDIT: ok so i decided to go and flash faux kernel (dec 7 release). Lo and behold, tethering is back and working. I guess theres a bug in the stock kernel.
Just chiming in that I am also getting an error with 4.4.2 on the wifi tether.
Worked on 4.4 without an issue though.

If you have root, delete folder "/data/misc/wifi" and reboot will fix it. Tested on stock 4.4.2.
Works great for me. Thanks.
Couldn't figure out what my issue was after restoring a Nandroid of an earlier version of Mahdi ROM. This worked perfectly. Thanks!
Didn't work for me

I actually don't even have that folder, is there anything else anyone can think of?
I have also got this error after restoring from nandroid backup. before that, tethering worked perfectly (on 4.4.2). unfortunately, deleting /data/misc/wifi and rebooting does not work for me, the error is still there. any ideas?

Did you restore from a USB or Internally? Having the same issue, thought it was my kernel, and yes I tried the solution of deleting the data/misc/wifi file and reboot but as soon as you throw on Hotspot, it has an error and wifi stops working too-Please Help!
Have had the error a couple times with the device. The folder delete trick never worked for me. One time I had to restore a nandroid to correct the issue. The other time I had to reflash the ROM (running stock, xposed, and GB )

After doing some testing I think the issue is from the restoring through TWRP, I just installed a freshly new rooted stock 4.2.2 and so far no issues, if you guys have any ideas-please comment away
I had this problem. In the end I switched to cm 11.
From the wonders of mobile telephony.
Worked for me on both my Nexus 4 & 7 that are using cm 11. Cheers

You're probably right. I today installed the fresh 4.4.3 factory image (wiping enabled). I then installed twrp. Then tried to tether on the fresh system and it worked.
After that I used twrp to do a backup, which I immediately restored. Tethering then was broken again.
Can someone else confirm this?

I can't confirm the TWRP backup, however it didn't work ever since I installed the 4.4.3 factory image with wipe.
This worked on the v4.4.2 tmobile NX5 to get the hotspot working properly [ I do over 200g a month with this method]
http://pocketnow.com/2014/01/20/kitkat-broke-t-mobile-tethering
Seems tho theres a new or they replaced the same file in the v4.4.3 ota?
Im holding off on doing the v4.4.3 update due to the fact this is my only internet...cant screw up my device and then not be able to fix it!
Can someone confirm this still works on v4.4.3?
Thanks
Okay, I solved mine. I had flashed franco kernel without checking which version of Android it was supporting, must've been 4.4.2. I flashed the stock kernel again found at - http://bit.ly/SCFUfJ

Tried again myself. Could no longer reproduce twrp breaking it.
I was getting the WiFi Hotspot error as well after updating to 4.4.3 from 4.4.2, when it was working perfectly fine on 4.4.2 before the update. I was running stock/rooted 4.4.2, with stock kernel, and a few Xposed Mods like Gravity Box, using Philz Recovery as my custom recovery. To update, I fastboot flashed the bootloader, radio, system and boot images from the 4.4.3 factory image (and wiping cache and dalvik). I thought I would get somewhat of a clean start by doing this. Afterwards, I was getting the Hotspot error, and it would disable my WiFi until I rebooted, which was very annoying. After trying to figure it out to no avail, I decided to just back up my stuff and fully flash the 4.4.3 factory image to REALLY get a clean slate. After restoring all my data, and applying the fix to the database file using the SQLite Editor app like I did on 4.4.2, I can confirm that it is working perfectly again. Not sure what happened, or what caused the error in the first place.
works perfectly for me
I flashed all the factory images to get 4.4.3 into a clean state. I did the following:
*Executed the following command since I don't have root: adb shell content insert --uri content://settings/global --bind name:s:tether_dun_required --bind value:i:0 in the platform-tools SDK directory
* Changed the APN settings to use IPv4
* Disabled IPv6 from Windows, only keeping IPv4
Rebooted phone, works perfectly. Used over 200GB since 4.4.3 and no issues.

APN disappear; Status 7 tying to flash 10.2

Hi All.
I've got a Samsung Galaxy Relay 4G using PhilZ Touch 6 recovery and cm-11-20140518-NIGHTLY-apexqtmo. I have an AT&T sim card and when I try to input APN settings for AT&T nothing saves. I've tried everything including 5 ROM's, all running KitKat emulations. I read that Android 4.0+ will not allow you to change APN settings, but is there some workaround. I've also discovered it disables APN apps from accessing APN settings.
I've also tried to flash 10.2 but I get Status 7 errors every time I try. I've followed instructions on removing access commands from the updater-script file and re-zipping, but it also aborts.
I've called *#*#4636#*#* and it doesn't look like the phone sees the SIM card, but maybe that's due to the APN settings? It won't even call let alone send/receive data. I've tried 2 different AT&T SIM cards with the same result.
Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Actually it turns out I couldn't see the IMEI number either, so I returned to stock ROM and could then see the IMEI. I then flashed CWM 6.0.1.2 and CM 10.2 and was able to then set the APN. I'm still having trouble getting phone and data connection over the cell, but at least it now shows some bars. Thanks for replying, though.
My connection issue was a problem with the SIM. It's all working properly now.
