I've been a long time lurker and never really made an account.
But recently my Nexus 5 stopped working.
get no display, But I can assume the phone is on because when I connect it, the holder on my computer opens up.
I assume there is something wrong with the connection. sometimes i can play with the daughterboard and the backlight lights up. but there is still no display.
The problem is that the phone is in PTP instead of MPT.
I don't care about the phone much as the pictures on it, because they are the last picture I have of a family member that recently passed away in an accident.
Even though the phone is rooted. when I load up Nexus toolkit, the phone is listed as unauthorized and I don't know how to pull any files off of it.
Can someone help lead me to a solution?
Thank you in advance.
You can backup your files by using adb pull.
Check this out.
Has USB debugging been enabled? Have any of your computers been authorized by the phone?

Hello,
Long time unregistered lurker, first time poster.
So I was using a nexus one for to long, had a friend root it and he slapped on what I was told was MIUI 9. I know it was MIUI but not confident on the version. It was released and I believe the most up to date version around the time ICS was first released. I had a black ice theme on the device that made menus blue and black, if that helps.
I dropped the phone and screen started bleeding colors and eventually went black. The touch response was still working without issue, but I cannot see anything. I'm trying to recover the pictures off it, and can hook it up to PC with USB, computer installs drivers and responds, however I dont get any new drives available on my PC.
I'm hoping someone has a screenshot of the prompt I would see on the phone to enable mass storage if it asks? Does MIUI prompt to turn on USB storage mode when plugged into a PC? I've honestly never done it with this phone before. Is there another alternative? Tried connecting microSD into adapter then into PC but it advises format and cannot read. Any help greatly appreciated!
Apologies if this is the wrong section :cyclops:
The developer mode for MIUI is on by default, so you should be getting in the USB debugging mode once you plugged it in.
Maybe you should try to do a dirty flash via the recovery mode. If it is still does not work....
Good luck.
tl;dr - Computer does not even acknowledge the phone exists, factory reset doesn't work. The cyan colored recovery is recognized by the computer though.
So yesterday I went on a hike, and before you start assuming "Oh he dropped his phone in the water or dirt or something" no I didn't. The hike is more of a tourist attraction really, with a man made path that you really can't miss... more of a stroll in the forest than a hike. So as I reached the end of the trail, I put my phone into Ultra Power Saving Mode as I needed the battery. While I was texting, the phone started acting up. The charging sound kept on coming on kind of like when a charging connection is sh**. Then the screen went black. The weird thing was though, that the screen was "on". I could attempt to capture a screenshot, and it would say "Unable to capture screenshot" in a message box on the bottom, and the ringtones would still go off. The phone stayed like this for a while, when I got into my car I noticed it seemed like the phone was charging from the car port, but the charging light was still on when the charger was unplugged from the car (which shouldn't happen normally). After I stopped in town, the phone worked again, but I had to rechoose my keyboard, theme, and wallpaper. I thought all was fine. However when I got home I noticed I couldn't connect my phone to my laptop. It would say charging, but Windows doesn't acknowledge the phone and I can't choose MTP or PTP on my phone.. it just says charging. I am 99.9% sure it has to do with what happened on the hike because it was working fine before. I tried a factory reset/cache wipe and going back to stock ROM (from CleanROM). Still not recognized. I tried toggling USB debugging, pretty much everything the Internet has thrown at me... I'm past my 14-day return period so I hope this isn't a problem over the next two years?
Yes... different USB and computers don't work. Samsung drivers installed. Kies and SmartSwitch don't recognize the phone. Tried rebooting both phone and computer. Using original cable that came with phone. I've pretty much exhausted everything... If I didn't list it you can suggest to see if I didn't try that.
Cant access device from Windows

Same problem but no previous reasoning behind it. I have installed the samsung galaxy S6 driver for windows and I get a beep on my PC when I connect it but no detection of device. I have enabled USB Debugging and clicked on connect device as Mass storage device.
AAAArrgghhhh.
WHY?
Nexus 5 running 5.1 stock
I had recently and sadly had an accident with my phone where the screen is completely useless. Shattered is a harsh word, but it's sitting in that condition. It does however still turn on. There are parts of the screen that display, but for some odd reason, its completely mirrored and upside down.
I have Android tools and drivers installed. And knowing something like this might happen, I had USB debugging enabled. BUT, for even stranger reasons, I'm guessing it's disabled because through cmd on platform-tools, it says it's unauthorized. Though the little window of display my phone pushes, I'm guessing I'm getting a dialog asking for USB debugging to be enabled. I'm not too sure how I got to this window, but it randomly appears on restarts of the device, and half the time, it just restarts normally like any restart.
I was wondering if there was a way I can push a command line using cmd on my PC to accept or continue from the dialog box that I literally can't see.
I looked far and wide on Google and this beloved website, but am having a hard time finding a solution.
The device is bootload unlocked, running stock on Lollipop.
I do not know if rooting and installing TWP will affect my data, as it is the only thing I really don't want to lose. I wish to keep stock as I am completely fine with it and I have tried custom Roms, but I still wish to continue using stock.
I'm not too familiar with some words used in explanations on this site, so please respond as if I'm 7 years old :silly:
My initial goal was to (while having usb debug enabled) fastboot (i think i'm using the right term) Mobizen, then mirror the screen on my pc, and control the device to upload everything to my cloud storage.

Good luck!
My brother recently shattered the screen on his s6 active. I was able to remove the bad screen because it was black and nothing on it at all. The phone still functions because the light comes on and changed colors when he got messages. I connected it to Kies and it will not recognize it because it is locked with a pattern. He bought a quick prepaid phone to use for now. His pictures and everything did not sync to his google account so everything is in the phone. I dont think he turned on debugging because he does not even know what it is. Long story short is there a way I can access the files and copy them over with adb or something? Or maybe a prepaid 30 dollar phone that uses the same display connection that I can just rip the screen off and plug it in temporarily? Anyone able to give any advise on this? Thanks in advance.
So, something very weird started happening to my phone. Out of nowhere, about 7 hours ago, it would stop charging whenever it was on, charging only when it was off and connected to my laptop. However, I thought it was just something wrong in the dev options, and I went to change whatever was the USB option to "charge phone". With this, I did accidentally forgot to activate the OEM option, and had to reboot not long after. You can probably see where this is going now.
Now I have a phone that bootloops on the FAP Lock message, and whenever I go to download mode to fix it, my PC just doesn't recognize the Phone. I've tried different USB cables, all of them are only recognized when the phone is shut down. So it isn't a hardware problem, because the Phone actually charges when it's shut down, and it isn't a problem with my USB ports or cables, as anything else I use with it works fine. And the worst part is, I need this phone today for a serious bank matter, and I can't afford to lose any data on it either, there's some very personal important stuff from yesterday that wasn't backed up yet. And keep in mind that paying for it to be fixed is the last option for me, as I can't afford it (besides, I fear they might end up getting the phone in factory reset mode, and I can't lose that data as I said).
Any kind of suggestions on how to get either the PC to recognize the phone, or flashing in a different way that doesn't need the PC to recognize the device? Thanks in advance.
Edit: Whenever I try to connect the phone via USB, it doesn't even make the Windows "USB connected" sound, it's just like it isn't there at all. One time, I got it to show, but it was as a "unrecognized usb device", and I haven't been able to replicate it yet.
