Moto vs Ambient Display

Ok, for us how are new to the moto phones, can you please explain the difference between these two options.
Which one do you prefer? Which one uses more battery?
Ambient Display uses more battery it doesn't use Motorola's separate low power CPU. Half-baked not as reliable as Moto Display.
Both accomplish the same task.
You have the option on the 2015 X. I wish the ir sensor worked with ambient display

So there is no real advantage in ambient over moto display? Better go with moto?
I actually prefer the look of Ambient Display, but wish it worked as well as Moto Display. I've got Ambient enabled on my GPE HTC M8 (via DigitalHigh LolliGPE ROM), but it's not as responsive as the Nexus 6 Ambient Display, and nowhere near the finely tuned beast that is Moto Display. But, it looks really cool.
In short, the Ambient Display is Lollipop's default lockscreen shown in black and white. It's interactive, meaning you can tap on the black and white notification, and the screen will fully turn on in color, and you can do whatever you normally do with the notifications.
Moto Display is a similar, but separate lock-screen, where notifications show up on a black and white, low-power screen that shows up to three (I think) of your most recent notifications. You can tap on the circle, and drag for actions, such as dismiss, open, unlock, etc. There is still the stock Lollipop lock-screen if you just press the power button instead of picking up or waving over the phone, so it is completely separate from the default lockscreen.

So, yes, go with the Moto Display if you value battery life more than aesthetics, because the Moto Display uses the low-power, dedicated CPU core to run the sensors that turn on Moto Display, which Ambient Display doesn't. Ambient uses the phones internal sensors to determine whether you're picking up the phone or not, which uses more power than the proprietary chip/core.
----------------------------------
As an aside, there is one more dedicated CPU core that does natural language processing, which is what allows you to always talk to the phone and have it respond to a certain keyphrase. Another really cool addition that makes the Moto X line a notch above the other flagships, IMO

I've used that on my M8 and Nexus 5 before and it works really well. It essentially mimics Moto Display, but since those phones don't have the hardware to match the DynamicNotifications like the Moto X does, it does create more battery drain. That app does work as advertised though; it's good, especially if you've got an AMOLED device.

Also it doesn't respect the smart locks you set. If you're connected to a device that's supposed to keep your device unlocked the dynamic notifications will relock the device. Happens with acdisplay as well.

Coming from a Nexus 6, I may end up getting the Pure. I'm a little worried that Motorola is losing its luster under Lenovo so I'm concerned for updates & support, but using the Nexus 6 for almost a year, I feel like Google's additions of Motorola's features weren't all there yet and Moto Display is one of the ones I was missing.
It felt more limited on my 2013 Moto x vs the Nexus 6 since the Nexus 6 is basically a black and white version of your lock screen so you see all the notifications when it 'breathes' vs the 2013 Moto X's one at a time (it improved a lot on the 2014 one if I'm not mistaken), but the thing I don't like about it on my Nexus 6 is that simply touching the screen anywhere fires up the whole screen which likely needlessly wastes battery. I'm constantly activating the whole screen on my Nexus 6 and it's very annoying, especially when all I'm trying to do is put the phone in my pocket, but my hand brushes against the screen. To me, the 2013 Moto x, it was a deliberate action when I wanted to preview a notification or swipe up/down to fire up the display.
Though with a non-amoled screen, it probably doesn't matter any more, power wise.
Is the colored Moto Display new to the 2015 Moto XPE, or was that on the older 2014 Moto X as well? I've never seen it before, so I'm thinking it has to be because of the LCD instead of AMOLED.
If you don't know what I mean, the new Moto X Pure/Style can show colors (instead of just black and white notifications) in its Moto Display feature.

No, that's not what I mean. I haven't actually seen it since the first time I used Moto Display, but it had a little blue part below the ring that said "touch to start" or something. Since then, I haven't seen anything bit black and white on Moto Display.
Isnt the Moto Pure screen LDC this time? Means the Moto Display will use more power than AMOLED?

Yeah it would do kost likley. But the less power used during web browsing on the LCD is probably a greater saving in power overall compared to the AMOLED.

Tested ambient display on mxpe for about 2 weeks. I changed back to moto display and am happy about it.
For like media player, moto display you need to push on the lock icon and slide it to the task you want. Making accidentally unlocking in pocket harder.
Ambient display kept unlocking in my pocket.
I think Moto display is way better but it's a shame that it isn't in any custom ROM only in stock

Display problem or what?

Hello,
Somedays ago i bought a LG G Flex 2 but i saw something like plea on display.
http://s29.postimg.org/vtd37hg7p/20151019_165958.jpg
Zoom that photo and you will see some different pixels some lighter some darker.
So please install a LCD TEST app from market and with green background make a photo with another device and post it here or feel free to say your opinion.
Please fast :d

The grainy displays are a very common characteristic of LG G Flex phones as they are Plastic OLEDs.
I dont know why this is more noticable in some phones than in other ones, but this happens to these displays.

Color saturation & accuracy

If you're colorblind, please disregard this thread. Rate this thread to express how you deem the color saturation and accuracy of the Huawei Nexus 6P's display. A higher rating indicates that you think that color accuracy is very high and saturation is excellent.
Then, drop a comment if you have anything to add!
dislike the orange color though...too high
Damn. I'm colorblind. I guess I'll disregard
The contrast is so high (when not in rgb mode) that it's almost unbearable to look at (for fussy people like me).
Unfortunately the rgb mode seems to dull things a bit too much...would be nice to have something in between.
Similar to the Nexus 6 I felt the display was too warm so I was very happy to install a kernel to make adjustments.

With the display set to sRGB mode (developer settings), images compare very closely to my calibrated laptop.
sRGB looks very accurate.
White is a bit warm/yellowish in comparison to another 6P.

I did a re install of the factory image and sRGB got checked during setting things back up on accident and I thought the factory image messed it up lol. Then I read this and turned it off. Much better.
By default it's too saturated, like the older Samsung AMOLEDs. sRGB is a bit too bland and blue but better.
Once I rooted and installed a custom kernel, I specifically reduced only saturation and now the panel is great.
I have a Nexus 4 as well.
In Nexus 4, the white is really white. But in Nexus 6P, the white is yellowish/pinkish(and it is really bothering me). Is it just my display or is it the case with everyone?
P.S. The black is really black though and the other colours seem to be fine.

I recently bought Nexus 6P. The color saturation was perfect initially. After I tried the color inversion once, the saturation has got high. I tried fixing it through SRGB but the saturation gets too low. Not able to find a middle ground. Please help. Thanks in advance.
the only downside
display is old amoled
bad screen
i had zte z11 max
it has better screen
Yeah the Amoled panel in this phone is not good at all. However it gets tolerable with a custom kernel and color adjustments. This isn't a color accurate screen in any way. My Honor 8 and XA Ultra has way better screens even though they are LCD.

Better Color Saturation on MotoG7Power

I used an old app i downloaded 2 years ago called Color Changer Pro.
The Moto g7 power lcd colors are a bit dull.
This app has made me love this phone more and I'm more at ease that I traded in the US variant Samsung a205u. I did like the screen colors on that phone though.
Does that work without root?
If it does, post a link please.
Thankyou

Screen green tint?

When I place Poco F2 pro right next to LG G8 the Poco F2 pro is obviously more green. I just used a page of xda to compare. Its much worse when viewed at an angle. When I had LG v30, I had 2 and one of them was green the other had a beautiful accurate screen. So I know this could be a quality control issue. I wonder if it's just my device that has this problem or do you guys have it too? Actually it might be caused by the screen protector too, has anyone taken it off? What do you see?
It must be quality control issue. Both my k20 Pro and K30 pro Zoom edition have beautiful screen. The note 7 Pro is terrible (LCD screen). I also have iPhone SE (2020) it has worse screen.

It looks like we are the unlucky ones. I am almost certain it's a quality control issue now, because of the above comment and if you look at some unboxing video on YouTube, you can see the youtubers have the correct display.
Also, the tint is not exactly green but yellowish too. Somewhat in between. But when I look at an angle, it's mostly green

I did a better comparison today with daylight.
I do use glass screenprotector but i dont think it has any negative effect. The screen has noticable color shift (wave like) when you look phone screen from the right. From other sides its OK.
Edit: i compered to my k20 pro and iPhone SE (2020). The k20 Pro has also color shift from the right (same pattern wave like) but way less than my K30 Pro Zoom edition. iPhone SE has maybe little color shift to the blueish-magenta color.
I tested on white background with full brightness on all phones. On straight on view all 3 phones have no green or yellow color wave shift.
Edit2: I did have green tint on K20 Pro when i installed 75 Hz mod in low brightness. Thats why i removed it

I dont know why only from the right. It reminds me IPS panels. IPS panels have also this wave like pattern (but white color-the screen glowes) when viewed from sides (my note 7 pro and my Dell monitor).
Do you see the green tint straight on with white background?

In fact when I try to take pictures with my LG g8 to compare to yours. My phone actually shows a more correct color in both cases although in my eyes it's the opposite. That means G8's camera has a bad color shift.

I notice the stock screen protector when I want to apply my termpered class version.

On my device I do not see green tint but I have black crush which the only way to make it go away is to enable dc dimming and using automatic or saturated mode. Also on light gray colors i see that the screen is not uniform. It is a bit more bright on top and bottom. Mi9t had a lot better screen... Disappointed totally.
I got a Poco F2 Pro piss edition...
Waiting on my second one, hope this will be okay. Else this was my first and last xiaomi device.
Depending on the brightness it is better or worse. But even at 100% it is notable on everything from white to grey. All apps show this Problem.
