I Just want to change the SSID name of a connected Wi-Fi. Which means I don't want to change the name over the network entirely. But I just want to show up a fake name in Wi-Fi Network Connection list only inside my mobile..

Hi,
AFAIK, it's impossible.

Hi,
I have Wireless Tether 2.0.8-Pre1 Experimental app on my Galaxy S 4G but would like to know if this is the newest file or is the Wireless_tether_1_60_galaxy.apk more up to date and only made for the galaxy S phones? Should I keep what I have on the phone or update it to the Wireless_tether_1_60_galaxy.apk file instead? Also when I change the SSID and password to my own SSID name and password it stops broadcasting. Any suggestions
Is there a way to change the name of my device? In my device list on my router it's listed as "Android_IMEI#" & I don't really like that. For WM you could change it to whatever you wanted.
bumpity bumperson
On my router, i can change it on the router setup page.
for bluetooth, you can change it from the bt settings page.
try wifi settings page maybe?
Check under Bluetooth settings and change device name
the bluetooth settings show it as HTC Sensation. can't find any options on the phone. I think it's a bit unsettling that any wifi network you connect to will have your device imei number
Hello,
I have several computers connected to my router, all the computers have a name there.
Only my HTC Sensation is displayed as unknown, which is confusing.
Is there a way to change the WiFi Name of the HTC Sensation?
I hope you know what I mean.
Thanks!
(it's a Netgear WNR2000 Router and I can't change the name there)

I want to change the WiFi name, not the Bluetooth name.
WiFi connection reported in settings with office wifi network - says "Connected", shows 4 bars, but no data passes - no internet data, no Speedtest.net connection, Talkatone can't connect to its servers - this on same network that my Galaxy Note, and my iPad 3 connect without difficulty.
My Galaxy Tab 2 7.0 connects to my wifi home network fine, and works fine when tethered to my Galaxy Note.
I am baffled by why it says connected but no data will pass - maybe a firewall issue, but why do Note and iPad have no trouble?
I can connect to a different wifi network in our building, and data passes normally.
Any thoughts/comments/remedies?
Thanks!
This is probably not going to help much, but I had the same problem trying to tether to my phone. My solution was to install an app on the phone that configured hotspot in an infrastructure mode.
In your case, maybe your IT person can offer assistance?
Does the wireless network you're connected to have MAC filtering? I've had that happen before where the device will say it is connected and have an IP, but can't do anything because the MAC address isn't in the allowed list.

The IT assistant found that his Android phone also wouldn't pass data. I will pass along this info, maybe the chief IT guy can sort this out.
Thanks!
I am trying to connect my Samsung Galaxy Young GT-S6310n with my home Wifi (Access Point) but it doesn't connect with it. It saves the connection but couldn't connect with it.
I checked it with another Router (Access Point) on same network but it also didn't work.
Let me mention my network setup at home. I have ADSL 4 ports LAN modem. I have connected my personal Access Point (Wireless Router) "Motorola Netopia" with ADSL modem and configured it as Bridge. I turned on the DHCP Server on ADSL Modem and turned off it in my Access Point.
I did everything to fix this issue such as changing Encryption type, changing Channels, updating AP firmware and resetting Access Point but didn't fix it.
I also assigned a Static IP address to my phone but this also didn't fix this issue.
So can anyone tell me how to fix it?
Thanks
