Hi guys,
I have just been wondering whether we can install any Windows phone OS in our Moto G ?
I want to know that despite the Moto G android OS , If the OS is removed is the phone ready to accept any OS systems ? I just want to know if we can use the Moto G snapdragons power for programming any arduino's or create any sensors which can be supported through the Mini USB port given in MOTO G , suppose i want to add a Gas sensor which detects the compositions of the Gas , I want to do this through the usb and decode the data in phone it self as it has a great microprocessor . is it possible ?
Pity my Ignorance
Since Microsoft does not offer Windows OS for non-Windows phones, you can't install it. Even if you could find a way to install it, it would be missing drivers and would not work at all.
You can write your own apps if you know how to write software. Such software could also use external hardware if you have appropriate drivers.
Windows 10 is available for the Xiaomi Mi 4 (Android Phone):
http://www.xda-developers.com/windows-10-is-officially-available-for-xiaomi-mi-4/
It was a collaborative effort between Microsoft and Xiaomi, however that phone uses a Snapdragon 801 SOC. If Windows 10 was developed for phones using Snapdragon 400 (like Moto G) - then the chances of seeing a port improve. Maybe if skilled developer(s) took on the project, Motorola would not need to be involved.
Microsoft appear to want to help - it might be worth starting a porting thread and contacting them.

Please let me know the phones, that allows me to install any Mobile OS in it.. I know that HTC HD2 can have 5 os in it.. IS there any other phone supporting all oS?
i wish i have the answer to your question. I looking for a phone that supports WP7 and android. it seems that only HD2 have this support. I guess is because microsoft dont allow using the same hardware of WP7 devices on android devices on the same company, so it cannot use the source code of wp7 drivers to make android drivers. Then the community have to create drivers from scratch, witch is hard.
Its not necessary that the phone should support WP7 also. Is there any other mobile that will support all other remaining OS?
Hi guys, is there a clean generic windows phone 7 os? just like desktops were we get a retail os, is there one for phones? and is it flash-able with all phone?
No
No.
It would certainly be interesting to get hold of the OS as Microsoft delivers it to OEMs to begin the process of adapting it to a certain phone model, writing or modifying device drivers, etc., but it seems nothing like that was ever leaked.
WP is closed, as is iOS; for the reasonably open Android there is of course something like a "generic" version; you could even compile and produce one yourself.
There isn't really any such thing as a "clean generic" phone OS, anyhow. Unlike desktop OSes, phone OSes don't ship with support for the massive array of hardware configurations that are found in the wild. Instead, phone OSes rely on a Board Support Package, commonly simply called the firmware, which has the various drivers needed to interface with that specific model's hardware. This is why, for example, even though the source code is available for the Android Open Source Project upon which CyanogenMod is based, it still takes a long time to get fully functional CM ports to each individual device. On things like WP7, where the source code isn't available (except for the kernel and some core libraries), it's even harder.
However, if what you really mean is you want a "clean" ROM that has no carrier customizations in it, there are "open market" ROMs available for many WP7 devices. These ROMs are still specific to the device whose BSP they contain, but are not specific to any mobile operator and usually not to any region.
thanks for the info guys, but it looks like there are no open market roms for the omnia w yet, well, not yet anyway, will keep an eye out now that i know what to look for,
thanks again guys
Answer is yes and no. No oem device created by Microsoft, but there is Nokia. As you know Nokia is part of Microsoft Windows Phone hardware partner. More options etc has Nokia.

I know that Microsoft is only going to release Windows 8 RT as a pre installed OS on the specific device. I also know that they will lock the boot loaders of these devices. I know the chances of getting this seam close to impossible, but i found this device on Asus website.
http://eee.asus.com/global/event/2012/computex2012/tablet-600.html
It looks exactly like the TF300T just running windows 8 RT, it is even using the same exact processor. Do any of the developers think that it would be possible to extract the OS from this device and port it over to the TF300T? Also wouldn't Asus also have to post the image of the OS on their site to restore the device in case of a crash and you need to reload? If the second is the case wouldn't we just need to have a custom boot loader that would allow us to flash and actually boot into Windows 8 RT? I am mainly just trying to get a developers viewpoint on this to see if it would even be possible.
it had double the ram, a different resolution, NFC, led flash...
these things alone will make it near impossible to port windows 8 over to our tf300's, its seems the only spec to match is the processor, and even then it doesnt say what type of tegra 3 that is, so i really wouldn't get your hopes to high

If windows 8 RT is anything like the current windows operating system ( which Microsoft says it shares most of the same code as the x86 based version), than having more ram does not matter. The only thing that really matters is that the chip set drivers are the same and that the storage controller drivers are the same. So as long as the chip set is the same (or the diver is the same) than i do not see how it wouldn't work.
Its not an x86 PC, mind it... Embedded ARM platforms dont have plug and play, "smart" buses and standarts in general... It doesnt matter if device X is visually the same as device Y, all the meaningful stuff - GPIO, interrupts etc - maybe completely different.
As far as my experience goes (i 'launched' (cant say ported, i only 'welded' assorted driver code and kernel) linux on wince acer s200 ), CPU and miscellaneous hw initialization may be completely different on WinRT. Besides, why you want an OS which is incompatible with either WM7 or old WinCE/WinMo?

I understand your points. I was simply pointing out that Microsoft stated that the majority of the code for Win RT is the same as the x86 version. I know that it has nothing to do with the look of the product and everything to do with the hardware inside. The only reason i would prefer Win RT over Android right now is that Win RT supports the full desktop version of IE 10. Android is lacking a fully functional desktop version ( chrome does not support apps, the full version of java, ETC.) If Android where to get a fully functional desktop web browser, i would be perfectly happy. Also it would be nice to have the full suite of Microsoft office for college.
I think its more connected to limited IO and CPU resources of ARM tablets, rather than OS limitations... MS can say absolutely anything, but the fact is that there would be no software on release... especially if you take into account that Valve/major OEMs had already sent their 'f-bombs' to MS and its plans with windows 8.
Would the fact that all RT tabs ship with locked boot loaders halt anything as well? I don't believe MS wants RT out on anything but approved tabs.

You do know that since almost all win apps are in net frame work making them work is one click in vs2012?

Hello World,
I want to buy an octacore single motherboard. However they are expensive. I would like to do testing and calculations(run HT-condor) or other cluster software on this. I would like to know if there is a possible way to use my phone for this. I know since it requires specific drivers it would be hard, but then i thought ubuntu has its own operating system so maybe it is possible to use those drivers and create a clean ubuntu install that has not extra features of camera or ads etc. I am only interested in network support(wifi) and being able to use cpu and gpu.
Is this possible ?
Greetings,
Hello all,
I've not flashed a mobile device in a very long time. I was wondering if Postmarket OS is compatible with the moto G7 river? I've seen that it's compatible with other G7 variants but I've not seen anywhere explicitly say it will work with G7 river. I don't have enough knowledge about flashing to know what to look for in regards to if a device should be compatible. I'm also open to other Linux OS on this device but they don't seem to mention the G7 series so I'm assuming they are not compatible. My previous laptop linux experience includes Arch Linux & Debian so any OS that are similar or operate similarly are preferred (I'm kinda computer savvy but no formal CS education, so I can adapt to a totally new system but that isn't my preference)
I know lineage is supported but it says it's based on android which IMO is starting to remind me of how Windows slowly got worse over time. I know android is ultimately based on Linux but like others have said it's hardly recognizable as linux and doesn't follow the philosophies that makes linux distros great. I would settle for lineage as a last resort as at the minimum I'm trying to get away from Google on mobile devices ( game addiction, Google play store way too tempting to fully kick gaming habits).
(UPDATE)
So I successfully followed the instructions on here https://wiki.lineageos.org/devices/river and have booted up in lineage successfully. No google in sight however if anyone can point me to instructions on how to flash or otherwise get a linux distribution (like debian) onto the phone I would still give it a shot if it seems well supported (little to no risk of hard-bricking).
[added to OP] I'm not sure if I can delete this post so if mods do clean-up feel free to delete this one. I've looked for a delete or trash button but don't see one.
