[Review] Choetech Iron Stand Qi Charging Dock - Galaxy S6 Accessories

Choetech Iron Stand Qi Charging Dock
***Disclaimer*** I received this dock as a review unit a little over a week before writing this review. I own a Galaxy S6 and used that as my primary device to test the charging dock. I hope someone finds my feedback useful. happy to answer any questions.
Right off the bat, I love this qi charging dock. I already own an ELEPHAS Qi dock, which I already believe to be a fantastic qi dock for my office desk, paired with my Galaxy S6. I received this Choetech Iron Stand not expecting it to offer more than the Elephas. Yes, it is a dock and yes it charges my phone wirelessly, but the Choetech does it with finesse.
Pros
+ Aluminium build is very sturdy. It can even hold large tablets (like my non-qi iPad Air).
+ Looks very ‘premium’ and ‘grown-up’.
+ Has a detachable microUSB connection.
+ Qi charging area is very wide. Very forgiving of phone size and placement.
+ Qi charge is stable and reliable.
+ Steep angle is great for avoiding light reflections in well lit places.
+ Steep angle also makes a great bedside dock.
+ Relatively small desk footprint compared to alternatives.
Cons
- Would have preferred the USB cable to be behind instead of the side.
- Cannot adjust the tilt angle.
- Blue charging light can be a bit bright in a dark room (just stick something over it).
- Non-stick pad is very prone to scuffs and scratches.
The dock is built from a single piece of aluminium, which makes it very solid. It feels like it could hold its own in a builder’s tool bag with spanners, allen keys, and other tough looking objects. You won’t be breaking this thing without considerable effort! The underside has two strips of a soft plastic rubber to keep it from slipping or scuffing your desk. the same grippy material is on the lip of the front of the dock to help keep your device in place.

You can’t adjust the angle of the dock… At first I saw this as a major negative considering the angle is quite steep. By comparison, my older dock is so laid back you wonder if it bothers to do any charging work at all (screenshots attached). That said I quickly grew to prefer the steeper angle. My workplace is well-lit and the sharper angle stops the lights from reflecting back at me, including the ambient day light. The steep angle also makes it a superb bedside dock. I could see my alarm clearly from my bed and switch it off without needing to be careful because the dock can take my clumsy bear paws. At night, I wasn’t a fan of the blue charging light, but it’s on the side and easy to stick a little opaque tape over it.
The charging is very reliable. the 3-coils is not a gimmick and I actively refuse any wireless charging dock that doesn’t have it. This increases the effective ‘hit-zone’ of the charging pad, making the dock very forgiving of the device you charge and the way you place it. I was able to carelessly place my Galaxy S6 sideways or even upside-down with a medium thickness case and it still charged (screenshots attached). I also tried some workmates’ Nexus and Lg G3 (with qi case) and they all got immediately recognised.
Overall, I definitely recommend this dock. It performs reliably, grips my phone (and even large non-qi ipad Air!) and has a relatively small space footprint. It manages to do all of this while still looking pretty stylish. I was tempted to knock a star for the inability to adjust the angle, but to be completely honest, I am happy with the angle and the loss in flexibility is a gain in robustness. I fully expect this thing to work with my future phones and tablets for the next few years.

All Chinese Qi chargers are not the same (not that you thought they were..)

So after picking up my S5 and absolutely HATING the USB3 connector on it, I decided I would go to a wireless charger. Read reviews and everyone has a different opinion so I got what I could find easily on eBay.
I picked up a charger for my wife's S4 and my S5, though not from the same seller (Neither seller had charge cards for both phones)
Wife got a pink one (to match her Otterbox Defender....more on that in a minute) and I picked up a blue one for my S5
Hers arrived and I went to work putting in the card. Worked flawlessly even through the big Otterbox. Awesome!
Mine came a few days later. Put the card in my phone (no case) and plugged in the charger. First thing I notice is the light to let you know its plugged in is VERY dim compared to the wife's. Weird but ok. Put the charge card in and put it on the charger.....nothing. Move it around some...finally find the exact spot it needs to charge (which happens to be 180 degrees from how you use the phone) Just a slight touch and its not charging. Also noticed her charging indication light on the pad is green, the one on mine was a very, very dim red.
So, thinking its the charge card...I test with the pink Qi charger. Works fine no matter how I put it on.
Contacted the seller, they told me to take the case off my phone, after my initial complaint stated I do not use a case on my phone. That was it..all communication stopped after their first response. I eventually won the case and got a refund. Seller was "findmall".
Anyway, the wife found she doesn't use hers as much as she though so I swapped insides (I can't use a pink charger lol). Here are the pics...the one I ordered for mine (blue) looks quite a bit different, both in quality of the charge coil solder connections, and the circuit board. Both look identical on the outside other than color.
Hope this helps someone. The good charger came (very quickly) from "accmonster" on eBay and was about $3 more.
Pics of them opened up before the swap:

Inside comparison. Notice neatness of coil and different circuit boards.
Close up of the blue with bad solder joints and rough looking coil
Close up of the pink with different board, better solder joins, and nice coil
Back plates:
Should make it pink and blue lol

From my shopping I'd think there are very few factories actually making these things, My LuguLake one is very similar externally. It does work fine for all my Qi capable devices. Amazon/ebay sellers often have 8-10 Qi chargers, probably the same internals.
I also have a raw Qi transmitter ordered from China that works ok, very bright LEDs. I haven't installed it in a case or whatever yet but the LEDs are almost too bright. It is a different design from your 2.

Your LuguLake case looks similar (mine just doesn't have the LuguLake logo) on it but otherwise identical. Definitely not the same internals though, and man...that first coil is so nice and neat compared to mine lol

The coil was pictured as a separate piece on ebay, wired to the board. I was a little bummed to see it sandwiched as it doubles thickness making the existing car mount I wanted to mod not feasible with out weakening it to much. I may make a nightstand or desk top with it embedded. Need to test how well it works through a thin veneer. But it does work fine in basic testing.
The Lugulake QI charger has the identical back as yours also, gotta be same case maker and probably same factory.

Naztech Wireless Ultra Charging Pad (45 degree)

After trying out wireless charging with $5 puck off eBay I wanted to get myself something better. My requirements were: black, small, tilted and usb connector compatible stand. (So for me Tylt Vu is too long plus it doesn't have usb connector)
I decided to go with "Wireless Ultra Charging Pad" from Naztech (ordered from eBay for $50 + $15 shipping).
I received the charger just yesterday. Fortunately for me, the charger looks really similar to the render and I like the design. It looks like it was made for S5 - the optimal position is right in the middle. (I'm no expert but based on the positions I tried it looks like a 1-coil charger.)
Unfortunately the excitement got away quickly thanks to:
LEDs - It has two LEDs: red one (always on) and green one (for charging). The green one is lit when phone is charging. When charging finishes, it starts blinking. I was aware of them and they look discreen but I just hate leds, especially blinking ones which are not mentioned in description of $60 product and they cannot be turned off (well, black tape to rescue).
Beep - It beeps when charging starts. I read that Tylt Vu also beeps but do they really have to? I wouldn't buy it if I knew it is such long and high beep (again, it's not listed in product description). The worst is that the charger has no screws so muting the beeper isn't so easy.
Slipping - I have geniune back cover with QI receiver from Samsung but the 45 degree rubber pad just isn't able to hold the phone and it is traveling down with the speed of 1-2 cm per 5 minutes. This makes me very angry. S5 is listed as compatible. When I put there only the back cover itself it was also slipping (I'm not sure if I will bother uploading it). I also tried my tablet without Qi - LG G Pad 8.3 which has aluminium back but even this didn't help.
No response - Before ordering from eBay I was unable to use 20% discount from Naztech shop. I sent them email asking for help but never received a reply.
The only good thing is that I decided not to order two pieces (one for home, other to work). I'm afraid I will not be returning the charger because shipping would cost me significant amount of the charger cost and time. Also the eBay seller undervalued the package so I better don't want additional charges or other issues when sending it back.

Working attempt to stop the slipping (used some rubber bands):
I might also end up replacing the rubber pad with something better...
This makes me very angry, lmao.
There's so much more in life to get upset about. Go outside.
try searching for a charger from yijieneng, i've started a thread on this, it has what you are looking for.
I already got $15 charging orb. Phone sits wonderfully on it and makes no beeps so I ordered another one for work.

I was pleasantly surprised - it doesn't feel cheap at all, it's quite heavy and looks well made, at least the all black version I got ("Made in Korea" ). Also unlike other chargers ($5 puck or this Naztech) it doesn't make any buzzing during charging.

with most of the chargers, you can just remove the buzzer, but you can't do anything with the phone.
I have about 12 chargers, I change them every few months.:fingers-crossed:

Hardware and Design
The design of this wireless charger is just amazing with the help of Capacitive Touch Sensitive 'Wake' Switch/Button, it looks like a decorative stone that you can place it anywhere in your house.
QiStone+ has a weight of 135g and its dimensions are 105 x 72 x 20mm.
Inside there's a 4,000 mAh Li-ion Polymer battery with Charging Efficiency of 74.7%, recharged through a micro USB port on the back. It also has a USB 2.0 port that can be used to charge smartphones that don’t support wireless charging.
When you touch the fonesalesman logo you wake up the QiStone+ and shows its battery status with a row of four Green LED’s across the product. Placing your smartphone on QiStone+ makes a beep sound which means that the smartphone is charging as it should, but a series of beep sound means that the smartphone should be replaced on the pad. You can always check the Blue LED on the bottom side of the product to make sure if your smartphone is charging.
The QiStone+ comes with a soft little bag that lets you take it anywhere with you. The USB cables inside the box feel so premium compared to other regular USB cables.
No Extra bulk added without case :

Pricing
The product has a price tag of $79.99 but you can save $25 from Amazon. There are other cheaper wireless chargers in the market but you will lose that premium feeling from QiStone+ and the built in Qi technology.
You can get it from here :
Amazon
QiStone+: wireless charging powerbank | Fonesalesman
Pros :
- Beautiful and premium design
- It’s also a wireless powerbank
- USB cables have a premium feeling
- It comes with a small bag that lets you take it anywhere you want
- Small enough to fit in a pocket
- You can charge the QiStone+ with the KoolPad Qi Wireless Charger
- Lets you charge your device with a case
Cons :
- It has a small 4000mah battery
- Wireless Charger and Charging device do get really hot
- A bit difficult to place it correctly from the first try
- Charging times are a little bit slower compared to Normal AC chargers
Conclusion
Overall QiStone+ is a quality product, it’s small and portable. Let’s you charge your Smartphone without cables anywhere. The only downside is that I had a little bit of trouble trying to place it correctly to the sweet spot it also depends on the Qi Receiver and cases. I wish it had a bigger battery so I can charge my Note 4 at least two times. The fonesalesman Qi Receiver works fine despite that it feels like it has not been placed correctly works like a charm almost every time. Both products come with 2 micro USB slots that can cover and protect from dust your micro USB port from your device since from now on you will charge your phone wirelessly.
(video coming soon)
Thanks for the review. I've been using the FoneSalesMan receiver for a couple of months now, every night and sometimes during the day, and it is excellent. Works great through my UAG case. I'm using the CHOETECH Stadium 3-coil charger which makes placement a bit easier - also it doesn't beep at all, so it's ideal for use in a bedroom at night!
When placing the receiver I didn't use the sticky back to attach it to the battery, just two pieces of sellotape to stick the contacts down - makes it easier to change batteries later.

Montar Qi Universal Car Mount and Charger

I was fortunate enough for Winnergear to contact me to review their newest car mount and Qi charger, the Montar Qi.
I have been using this for the last three days and am entirely pleased with the product.
I have not been able to find any faults at all with the design or usage of this product.
I will answer any questions you may have as soon as I can about this product, just ask here or PM me.
This arrived to me well packaged and quickly direct from Winnergear.com.
It is listed on their site at $79.99 and to me is worth the price, however they are currently running a promotion that if you share product on facebook and or twitter you get $8.00 knocked off the price instantly.
Inside the box you will find:
The Qi charger/mount
The base for the charger
A sticky pad to apply to your dash
A lighter adapter for power
The instruction manual

The packaging is fairly basic, listing all the materials used and manufacturing location.
The instructions are easy to follow and well written.
Nothing too exciting here but I took pictures for you in case you are interested.
You have to attach the mount to the base, this is simply done by loosening the nut on the base and pressing it to the mount.
Then just tighten the nut finger tight.
The base has a suction cup on it that has a sticky gel in addition to the strong suction cup.
This should stick to most surfaces including slightly textured dash pads and your windshield.
For heavier textured dash pads there is the included sticky pad, just stick it to your dash and then use the suction cup on the mount to attach it to the pad.
This sticky pad uses high quality 3M double sided tape to stick and should work on anything.
Once this is together and installed in your vehicle, just plug in the included lighter plug and the mount is ready to use.
This mount is fully adjustable and should work with any Qi compatible smartphone.
This includes phones that officially support Qi charging and ones that have an aftermarket sticker of any kind.
I am currently using this charger with my LG G4 and LG v10 without any issues at all.
To adjust this mount to fit your smartphone, just press the button on the bottom back of the mount and the bottom feet will adjust up and down.
Use this adjustment to align the center of your phone's Qi receiving coil with the Qi symbol on the mount.
The arms that hold your phone locked into this mount are curved to hold your phone better than any other mount I have yet tried.
They are also large enough that they should hold your phone even with the thickest of cases on.
The arms on this mount are strong enough to hold your phone through even the bumpiest of roads.
I put my LG G4 in this mount and flipped it upside down and shook it as hard as I could to try to get it to come loose and could not get it to slip even a little bit.
Once you have this mounted all of the ports on your device should be easily accessible, the bottom arms are designed so that they should not obstruct any of the ports on your phone.
As soon as you place your phone on this Qi charging mount, it should start charging.
I have had no problems with heat buildup using this charger.
This will also trickle charge your device once it reached 100% charge and maintain that 100% charge.
Last, you are still able to use the camera of your smartphone while you have it connected to this charging mount.
If you would like to use your smartphone as a dashcam, you can easily do that without worrying about killing the battery in your phone.
This is easily a 10/10 product.
The price may seem a little steep to some, but if you think about what you are getting here, it is well worth it.
I would highly recommend the Montar Qi Car Mount.

Do you happen to have an ampmeter or know at what it is charging? I don't take very long rides and need a charger that will charge a good amount lets say in a max 30 minute ride. Thanks.

I do have a USB meter, however I can not use that to test Qi charging, only wired.
I did use the Ampere app and it reported a maximum charge rate of 1040mA and an average of 820mA .
That is about standard for a Qi charger.

ZeroLemon 5000mah Battery Case Review

Full disclosure, I was given this unit to review and give my unbiased opinion of the product. **Lots of pictures incoming**
Okay, lets start. I've used several ZeroLemon battery packs on different phones and this arrived packaged like all of them. The usual instruction cards in a plain white box. I wasn't sure what to expect when I opened the box, but I was glad to see this wasn't some crazy three part case that needed to be put together like the old one I had for an LG phone. If you've ever used a Mophie, you will be familiar with the way this case looks and feels.

I plugged the case in and charged it up, it took about an hour to fully charge and I grabbed my phone and slapped it in the case. This is a one piece case, the top is quite flexible so you start at the bottom with the USB connector and then pull the top up a little and slip the phone in. The phone went in easily enough and you reverse the process to remove it. Pull the top up and push the phone out from the bottom. The case obviously adds some bulk, I mean, it's a 5000mah battery. It has a very nice matte finish so no finger prints is a plus. You'll notice that my edge to edge screen protector which I've not gotten around to getting rid of yet isn't playing very nice with this (or any case).
There is a deep well in the back but it wasn't difficult to reach the finger print scanner and it works fine. I did notice using gestures to pull the notification tab down was normal, raising it was a bit tricky due to the bulk of the case, but after figuring it out, it works fine. There is a small learning curve. The case does have a slight lip at the top and bottom to protect the screen when face down and the sides of the case are higher than the Samsung Rugged Case but do not interfere with the edge at all. I'm not a huge fan of the buttons to be honest. They are pretty flat, they work well enough, but they aren't exactly easy to find. The cutouts are all perfect and it's not terribly difficult getting the S-Pen out. I did not need an adapter to use my 3.5mm headphones.
Battery performance. So I charged the case fully and went to work with my phone at about 40% battery. I turned the case on at 5:40pm and let it do it's thing. Its not a fast charging battery, obviously, but after about 75 minutes I was at 80% charge (Where I pull my phone off the charger). I still had two bars lit up on the back of the case and the third was flashing when I powered it off. (Hold the button down for 3 seconds to turn the case on and off). I need to do more testing, but I'm sure I could charge my phone to full and have a little left over to top off without issue.
Final thoughts. Battery cases are the sort of thing that I usually have for situations when I am traveling or I am going to be out in the field for 12 hours or more. This won't replace my Samsung Rugged Case as my daily driver, but it's certainly going to be useful when I am flying or working long hours so it will always be charged and in my backpack. I'd recommend this case if you like the Mophie, especially, because its about 65 dollars cheaper and does exactly the same thing. Great job on this one ZeroLemon, maybe make the buttons stick out a bit more if you ever do a revision!
