[ROM] CM13 for T31x - Galaxy Tab 3 8.0 Android Development

Thread Closed....All support focus has moved to Lineage.
I am creating this thread as a place to discuss development of unofficial CM13 builds for the T31x devices. Those of you that have been around here for a while already know that I tend to get busy with other stuff and disappear a times. So, with that said, if you would like to contribute to the development of this rom, please feel free to do so. I can make you a contributor and you will have the ability to modify this OP as required.

What Doesn't Work:
- Bluetooth has audio issues
- External SDCard will not work as "internal" storage
INSTALLATION
- Make sure you're running latest TWRP 3.0.2-0
- Copy GApps and CM ZIPs to your internal or external SDCard
- Boot into Recovery
- Perform WIPE:
In TWRP, select Wipe --> Advanced Wipe.
Check Dalvik/ART Cache, System, Cache, and Data
Swipe to Wipe
- Flash CM zip
- Flash GApps zip
- Reboot
Updating to a newer version of THIS rom ("dirty" flash)
- Boot into Recovery
- Flash CM zip (no need to re-flash gapps or wipe anything)
- Reboot
If you have any issues after doing a "dirty" flash, do a clean install before reporting any problems.
Downloads
CyanogenMod
Builds: https://www.androidfilehost.com/?w=files&flid=44848
Google Apps
OpenGapps: http://opengapps.org (use an ARM, 6.0 zip) - now on tap needs mini or higher.
HEADS UP: Be sure you flash the gapps package when flashing your rom. If you boot your rom, then try to flash gapps later, you will have issues.
CHANGELOG
For a list of CM changes, you can review the i9300 nightly changelog located HERE.
The i9300 is a similar platform to ours, so most of what is listed there will be applicable for us, unless it is i9300 device specific.

Tips:
If you flash a gapps package and get a force close on the keyboard, boot into TWRP, mount system, then choose the file manager option and delete /system/lib/libjni_latinimegoogle.so Fixed
You will need to give your browser permission to access storage before you can download anything with it. Go to Settings-Apps to adjust permissions.
If you flash a Gapps package with Google Camera, the camera may not work. Many i9300 users are reporting that the new Google Camera needs an API that we do not have and therefore will not work.
When connecting the tablet to a computer to transfer files, it will always initially be in "Charging" mode and you will need to select "File Transfer" mode by clicking on the notification on the tablet.
Camera - If you get "can't connect to camera" message, download Mediaserver Killer app from store and use it.
Netflix - If you get lines in your Netflix video, edit your data usage settings on the Netflix website to Low or Medium. I created a "mobile" profile and set the data usage to "low"; then selected that profile in the app and I no longer get the lines on the videos.
Google Movies - If you get a "license error", you need to give the Google Movies app permission to access "phone"; then reboot.
I have noticed that the latest version of Google Movies does not work (at least on my T310). It always gives the "failed to fetch license" error when trying to play purchased movies. I found this same problem when I first starting using CM13, but it could be solved then by giving the app permission to access "phone" in the permission settings for that app (then reboot). But, the newest version of the Google Movies and TV app does not request these permissions, so the "fix" for the previous version does not work.
If you want to use Google Movies and TV app, you can install the previous version (3.10.10) and allow the required permissions (then reboot) to get it working again.
I will not post the apk because people have varying ideas about installing apps that are not installed directly from the app store, but you can find the previous app on APK Mirror website.

Source Info
What I used to build CM13:
Please don't ask how to setup a build environment in this thread. There are plenty of guides that will instruct you how to setup a build environment for CM. I will not repeat those instructions, only give you the additional info required for building for our devices.
In addition to the full repo of CM13 sources, I used the following from my git:
lt01-common device tree
lt01wifi device tree
lt013g device tree
lt01lte device tree
smdk4x12 kernel source
proprietary vendor blobs
I also used from CM sources:
smdk4412-common device tree
Samsung Service Mode
Samsung Hardware

Will test on T311 2morrow.

Will test on the t310 as soon as I can I am especially anxious of the Bluetooth headset problem that was evident during 12.X (and other custom roms)
Edit: Tried it out. Bluetooth is still a bit messy for headsets. Unless I am very close (less than 2 meters) - so far.
Edit2: Welcome Back Gr8Nole - missed you (for Dev reasons)

Great job gr8nole. One problem that I encounter that is found on lollipop too is YouTube having lag. I really like to use it but in lollipop and marshmallow there's still problems. Still, thanks a lot for keeping this device up-to-date with the latest version of android. Thank you! ?☺?

Flash AMB9.. You can find it in the S II Plus index. Do note that you will need to wipe data if you're going to revert to stock. A transition fron stock to CM or the other way round will always require a wipe.

For guys having no network, as far as i can say, any baseband should work
Cyanogenmod by default is on 3G only.
So if your carrier doesnt have 3G network, it will not register to 2G automatically unlike stock roms.
For getting gsm working , go to setting>more>mobile networks> use 2G only.
I think this will solve the issue
Pls report if it works.
2g and 3g does not work.
When I make a new APN Setting, the new APN does not appear in the APN-list, after saving. Is this normal, or should there appear a new entry?

Reporting Bugs
You are allowed to report bugs only in this thread. Before reporting a bug, please make sure you are running as stock as possible. This means no custom kernel, no custom framework modification, etc. If you are using any of the above modifications, please flash the rom again to get rid of the modifications before reporting.
REPORT BUGS IN THIS THREAD ONLY
Grab a logcat right after the problem has occurred. (Please include at least a few pages of the log, not just the last few lines, unless you know what you're doing.)
If it is a random reboot, grab /proc/last_kmsg. (Do not bother getting a logcat unless you can get it just before the reboot. A logcat after a reboot is useless)
If the problem disappears after running "setenforce 0" from a root shell, grab /data/misc/audit/audit.log
Remember to provide as much info as possible. The more info you provide, the more likely that the bug will be solved. The following is a useful format to follow. Note: If you can provide the latest night/build that the bug didn't exist, it would greatly help in tracking down what caused it.

Interim Solution for error while copying files to the internal memory via USB.
* this error is due to a problem in the default kernel CyanogenMod.
To fix, download the kernel below and install on your phone via ODIN. Evident that after installing the ROM.

Interim Solution for error while copying files to the internal memory via USB.
* this error is due to a problem in the default kernel CyanogenMod.
To fix, download the kernel below and install on your phone via ODIN. Evident that after installing the ROM.

The bug that causes the process to terminate the camera is that the application does not get access to the internal memory.
Flash the above commented that the kernel problem to occur. Made here and the error stopped.

There shouldn't be according to the source code. We are not using -w 1023 and -d anymore for external storage sdcard instance. Internal storage should have been working this entire time. FWIW I've not encountered any issues with storage this whole time, I'm also fully able to take pictures to both internal and external storage from the stock CM Camera app.
How are people accessing the SD card anyway? Third party camera app, file explorer without root, file explorer with root, via USB mass storage, via terminal emulator?
It's personal. I installed last night on 22 and even with the custom kernel the camera is giving error while starting.

This is a flashable zip file, so flash it using CWM https://mega.co.nz/#!l1R0lTIS!JdcJCvFDdv1MCZSfMNCkY9LvmM3ro3u71EgJ59PRn60
Have I found the reason of my problem. I installed the ROM, gapps and then the KERNEL. That made this mistake in the camera.
Retraced process as follows:
1 - install the ROM
2 - install the GAPPS
3 - reset the ROM and do the basic configuration
4 - Finally the KERNEL via CWM.
So it worked perfectly.
Mod Edit
Thread cleaned.
Can I please draw everyone's attention to the first post and "Reporting Bugs"
If you want to help develop this ROM , then please follow the procedure suggested by the [OP]
Otherwise ,post general chit-chat in the discussion threads.

Yeah, I know it's something known. According to @intervigil it shouldn't be causing any problem because is already fixed in the code, but for me and other people is still there. I posted just to let him know that we are experiencing that.
Anyways thanks for your response, I'm using Perseus so I'm not facing that now. :good:

Hello everyone. This is my 2nd post in these forums(the first one being in the Q&A section). I've searched for a ROM with Android 6 for the xt1033 (Dual Sim) for my gf and I have chosen this. It seems the less bloated(compared to CyanPop) and also such a thread exists for the Nexus 4(I have no idea who Temasek is xD but I believe the ROM will be great from what I heard on the Nexus 4 forum)
Anyway, I was a good boy and read the OP and everything that I was supposed to read.
The thing is, I didn't find a post that explains the 'bugs' that exist.
Does Camera work(both front and back)? Does video work? Does 3G work? It's not for me, but for my gf and I don't want to fk her phone up as it's not mine.
Thanks a lot for your time.

To be honest, this Rom is even more stable than official CM nightlies in my opinion. Camera, Dual sim, everything's smooth AF. Running it as a daily driver, no issues yet, just remember to grant proper permissions to apps.
Oh, and you might want to first use the inbuilt root app, before flashing supersu, just in case.
No system ui tuner in settings??

If you want to use this tablet for phone calls, see THIS post before installing.

WIFI WORKS - BUT, If you have an issue with wifi not working AND your mac address shows a value starting with 02:00:00, do not post about it UNLESS you take a dmesg log (immediately after a reboot) and post it with your message. Google can tell you how to take dmesg log or see THIS thread.

INSTALLATION

In TWRP, select Wipe --> Advanced Wipe.

- Flash GApps zip

Updating to a newer version of THIS rom ("dirty" flash)
- Boot into Recovery
- Flash rom zip (no need to re-flash gapps or wipe anything)

Do not ask about dirty flashing.
This is a very early build, so please don't start reporting a bunch of little bugs. I know there are things that don't work.
Wifi does work

Great work. Thank you!
Thanks for all the hard work!!!
Sent from my SM-G935T using XDA-Developers mobile app
Whaoo Thanks.
I tried it, wifi working, bluetooth also. I had difficulties with flashing because TWRP was not seeing my filesystem, so I flashed first with flashify, then formated my sd card, then reinstalled.
More details coming
Edit :
Internet, YouTube, Facebook, Dropbox, GPS, downloads working :
Not alpha anymore
You are the man!!!!
Awesome! Thanks!
Thanks for all the gr8t & hard work. I have flashed to CM14.1 on my Galaxy Tab 3.

Test a dirty flash. If it works then all good and if doesn't, clean flash it again.

Noob mistake or perm issues ?
Hello,
First of all, thanks for all the awesome work you have been doing with this build @gr8nole !
I needed a different/newer ROM for my tablet and have been waiting for a while to finally test one. :good::good::good:
Not sure if I need to modify or configure it properly but it seems that I'm having some permission issues ? I can't download and then save files from within a browser or manage to bypass a few tweaks I made ( ex: tried to VPN, it connects via OpenVPN and displays correct IP Server stats, but it still uses my local IP. Also had to copy the opvn file via USB cable ).
Not complaining and I am really glad that I am able to use such a recent build on my tablet ( and it looks and runs awesome ! ). Just wondering if there's anything one could do, in order to have it running exactly like I want it to !

For browser downloading, you need to give the browser app "storage" permission, then may need a reboot for correct permission to apply.
Not sure about the vpn stuff.
