I had an android wear watch and the ambient mode/always on face was customizable with a lot of watch faces. You could have the entire watch face on in ambient mode, which drained the battery faster but looked good. I specifically want to be able to have the "Date" on the ambient mode screen. I have seen a lot of pics of the always on face and its just 'watch hands" and nothing else.

The "I'm Alive" app in the Samsung app store works well to force your watch to stay on. I have used it with the maps application. Not sure yet how that affects battery drain though.

Thank you very much! This is what I am looking for ever since I had my gear. Now we'll see how the battery goes. As long as it stays up for 15 hours, I'm all good
It likely won't last that long. Also, you may want to do some research on whether forcing the screen would cause burning. The always on modes switch pixels every minute so evidently Samsung thinks burn-in is an issue.
Wasnt looking to necessarily keep the watch face on all the time, just the dimmed ambiant screen. But most of the ambient screens for the watch faces i see only have the watch hands, not the other information.

Turning on an AMOLED screen all the time would cause sever burn-in issues to the display later down the road. Samsung knows this and that's the reason the 'always on' mode doesn't keep the display always on and its because for a reason. If you want to see how a burned-in AMOLED display looks like, visit any retail store and have a look at the phones in display. But I was recently told that employees turn off the devices when there are no customers around but still you could see one or two. I wouldn't advise using that app if I were you. It has been told numerous times before.
My futuristic watch face has the ambient mode with digital time, battery and date. Check out this short video youtube.com/watch?v=V6ee6ypdA94 . This update is coming on Wednesday
Do burned-in cases applies to low brightness intensity, say level 2, and with black and white color combination watch faces?

I've resolved my ambient mode watch face issue. I'm now able to create my own watch faces with ambient mode the way I wanted.

Is there an alarm clock app or can one be created where you can set the screen to auto dim when using the alarm clock? I used to have a BB Storm...and the alarm clock had a setting to dim the screen so the background wasnt illuminated but you could still see the time...both the PRE and the EVO dont have this setting...
easy peasy, IF you're using Sense.
1. click on your clock

2. Set your alarm with the alarm button
3. then hit the little laptop looking button
4. and Voila! you should have the below clock on your screen. it orients as well, so use that kickstand for something!!

You can also click the moon star thing and you getting a dimmed down version for night time!
Thanks SilverStone641 ...But I already know how to use the alarm clock...the issue I have is that the background is very bright...lighting up my room making it difficult to sleep...my old Storm had an auto dim feature that would gradually dim the background so it wasnt so bright keeping my room dark...I used to have to cover my PRE because it didnt auto dim either...but then U cant see the time...I figured this could be done with android apps...maybe not???
even with the method that jedwardmiller suggested??

Does setting the screen brightness settings to "auto" help when combined with any of the above suggestions?
This is what I do every night as well. I use the dimmer "nighttime" version so I can look over at it during the night without it being too bright. It even moves around the screen like a screensaver so you don't damage the LCD.

It seems that no matter which one I choose...desk top (laptop pic) or night time (star and moon pic) its still the same brightness...
I got the old Storm out and set up the alarm...it has a dimming feature and the alarm has a "bedside mode" you click...after a few seconds the screen backlighting and the clock numbers dim so that you can still see the time but the illumination of the screen has dimmed so it looks darker...or more "black" and doesnt emitt as much light...
Is there a way to make an alarm app that has such a feature?
I've set a number of alarms to remind me of all kinds of regular things during the day. When an alarm goes off, the screen wakes up. Is there a way to prevent this? By the time I've taken the phone out of my pocket, it has opened five apps and ordered a fridge...

The screen waking, usually is part of the "wake-up" ..... you can always turn your screen down in brightness, see if that helps. And btw there are some good sales on fridges these days, some even with internet connection/capability.

But why would the brightness make a difference? The problem is that when the alarm goes off, it switches the screen on. Once the screen is on, it takes any random movement in the pocket as touches, including unlocking (by sliding up in the case of my phone) and touching on things on the home screen. I want it to sound the alarm without waking the phone/touchscreen.

How do you screw up setting the alarm time so bad that it goes off in your pocket not your bedside table
Not exactly addressing the original question, but you could try setting a pattern lock. Unless your pocket is intelligent, that should stop fridges piling up in your home.

I use it for all kinds of reminders during the day, "leave to pick up kid from school", that sort of things.

I thought of that, but that would mean I have to do the stupid pattern or number code each of the other 3948291 times a day I need my phone.

Maybe a reminder app that doesn't turn the screen on, but just dings in your pocket? I don't use one so I can't point you toward anything particular. Just an idea.

Yes, thanks, that's what I'll look for if there's no easy fix. (My phone is quite full, so I don't want to add unnecessary apps.)
Hi, all. There are so many watch faces out there, but not easy way to hunt for the style and functionality I'm after. Hoping someone here might have a suggestion or two.
First, I am NOT interested in making my own. I don't have the time or patience to create a watch face, and would prefer to just download one that fits the bill. There are so many out there, that surely what I'm after must exist.
I'm looking for a face with the following characteristics:
1. Analog style
2. Always-on capability
3. Phone battery status
I'm sure this won't be too hard to track down, but as I search, it is super cumbersome to hunt for this, and takes so much time and so many clicks to preview the watch face only to find that it shows the watch battery status not the phone...or that it's digital and not analog... Hoping you guys can give me a few names of watch faces to search for. Thanks!!!!
Try Watchmaker app and you can use thousand and thousand watchfaces with phone battery, weather, calendar events and more....

That's exactly the problem! That app produces the "needle in a haystack" problem for me. Do you know of any specific watch faces in that app that would suit my needs? Otherwise, it will still require hours of searching before I can find a few watch faces that fit my three simple criteria...

On the link there are faces that suit your need.
1. Analog style
2. Always-on capability
3. Phone battery status
Example : this :

But also many others.... so if you want ONE this is ONE
I use often this one on my Gear S3 (picture in always ON mode)

Thanks. That was very helpful. Also, Watchmaker has a search filter that I've been hunting for! It allows me to select the attributes I care about such as round display, phone battery, and analog face and get a long list of watch faces that fit the bill. Once I had a good starting point, I could then tweak the one I selected with some custom functionality. I'm still wary of how much this app tries to reach into my wallet! Even after buying the premium license and the Samsung companion app, I am still presented with offers to buy more! I'd rather just pay a lump sum at the beginning and get all access, rather than having to constantly check whether my premium license covers a particular watch face or not. But I'm very satisfied with the face I found...very similar to the one you listed up above. Thanks!
WatchMaker premium is for use infinite faces with the app, otherwise you can not use more than few faces. After, every one can make a particular face and ask some money to distribute, not related with the master app
It is not the developper of the WatchMaker app wich develop all the faces for this app, so every one can offer or not his work.
Hi all! As title says, I just wanna know if there is an app to make aod look the same (dimmed possibly) as watchface. I found a really nice watchface but aod is black background with only analog clock, without complications. Is there some way to keep background and complications on a face that doesn't have it from default? Thanks in advance!
Not unless the developer has settings for it, or you have the original files to make it yourself. Turning on a bunch of stuff on AOD kind of defeats the purpose of AOD. It is supposed to be minimal and lacking color to minimize battery use.

That's correct mate. But I found some faces with aod that is like face on, but dimmed. Battery seems fine (with last update i reach 2 days with aod on all time except night).
Will search some similar watchface or try to make a request to the developer, though all his watchfaces are with same kind of aod..
I have the I-Digit watch face on my Watch 4 Classic and if you get the premium version, you can turn off or on any of the items on the watch face AOD. The developer makes many watch faces. You may find one you like there.

It's this one! Nothing special, usually I prefer more complicated faces, but it looks clean and nice. Tried with Mr time, I reached a similar result, but same "problem" with aod..

Wow that's super simple you could create this with galaxy watch creator but AOD has a limitation on colors so no screen burn. Might be why they chose not to keep the colors.

Yes, I've already tried but very limited on aod.. but I have many faces with colored aod, they just move every X minutes to avoid screen burn..
Hey, anyone screw around with the watch face studio?
I was going to make a simple watch face so when I attend mustang shows, I can show it off.
When I save it and try to build it, it says the on display pixel ratio is too high.
How the heck do I disable that? I never use AOD anyway. Just wanting a nice simple face.
Here's what it looks like.

Switch to the Always-On tab on the left hand side panel and hide layers until the on pixel limit is reached, for example in your case you could disable all layers except the hour and minute hand). If you plan to use it personally and don't use AOD at all then you can even disable ALL layers in the Always-on tab
I added an overlay to dim it all as well above post, hope that helps!

This is what i normally do,if i get "pixel ratio to high "warning in Watchface studio
I always have a lot colour options and either set option to black or a dark greyish , when i create a " WFS format " to transfer to my watch .
This "work around " works fine for me and i can then , use any colour option in AOD ,mode
Bottom line ,
Afterwards i still have my other colour options....... to change back to my desired colour option .eg white ..etc etc
See screenshots .
Good luck .

Just to add further to my post above ,
You can also create different styles, with your preferred option included .
So one style you create a watchface with very low pixel ratio or dark watchface ;
You also include your preferred watchface in style
When you ready to send watchface to watch just make sure your "first option "in your watch face is a low pixel ratio /dark .
Then transfer to watch .
Afterwards go to your phone and select in Wearable your prefered options of your choice
see screenshots
good luck
Thanks for the help! That did the trick. After remembering to turn on ADB debugging, finally got it to take the watch face!
