Hi guys,
I need a new phone and deciding between the GF2 and the 1+X is incredibly hard. I got an invite, but I'm not sure I should go for it. I need to know soon since I have until tomorrow to decide as the deal on NewEgg for the GF2 ends tomorrow. I love the specs, but do you guys see this device getting support in the future from devs? TWRP would be great.
The model in question is the H950. I was going to flash it to an H950PR though. Thanks.
Oneplus will have more support, LG G Flex 2 bootloader is still locked which makes it almost impossible to make roms/kernels. I went with flex 2 and i like it, snapdragon 810 is beast compared to 801. And i heard the 801 in Oneplus underpreforms in games, but i guess it will be fixed with updates. LG G Flex 2 weakest point in my opinion is screen. In theory it's very good, perfect blacks due to Plastic OLED, nice intensive colors, a little bit too high brightness. But practically a lot of people has some color tints on screen, brightness difference on screen and ,the worst in my opinion, grain, which occur mostly on greyish colors: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=B9pYswQitiU
Some are better, some are worse. I think of sending my phone to LG for display replace, because i have some grainess and little blue tints on left side of my screen.
Thanks for the input. That's what I was thinking, but my worry is after Marshmellow LG is going to leave this device in the dust. Besides that, I'm leaning toward in every way. I love what OnePlus did with the X though so I'm kinda on a fence. In all honesty, a SD 400 is still plenty fast in my eyes which is why I'm a little skeptic. Does the overhearing issue still exist, and do you see this device ever getting an unlocked boot loader? When it does, can we expect ROMs such as CM 13? I just don't know what to do
I think it will get unlocked in future, and people will start to make roms, mods and kernels for Flex 2. It is still most powerful LG device to date, and it has power for atleast few more years, because they didn't go with QHD display like in LG G4 or G3 for example, which is stupid move for me, 1080p denisty on 5.5' Flex 2 is more than necessary, iphone 6s has "only" 326 pixel per inch, but screen is still sharp and less pixels makes its performance one of the best in smartphones. And, LG G4 is "only" SD808 + QHD while Flex 2 is SD810 + FHD. Flex 2 does not overheat in my opinion. It gets pretty warm, and system slows down hardware a little, but the device isn't too hot and performance is still top shelf. I have little blue tint on my screen and some grainess, i'm going to send it back to LG for replace, will see if things get better or worse
//Edit: And wow, this phone is super handy and comfortable. I was worried, because my previous LG Optimus G was 4.7', i tried to use my friend's 5,5' lenovo and i was sceptical about big displays. But the curve and design makes huge difference for Flex I don't know really why LG acts like they forgot about Flex 2. It is one of the best phones i had and it is pretty cheap if we look at other flagships. I guess they moved on to LG G4 is POLED, which is great, but there is a lot problems with grain, tints, etc.

Totally agree with you. 2k or above resolution is superfluous on 5.5" or smaller screen as we can hardly see the differences with naked eyes and it just weakens the performance and battery of the phone.

Hi guys,
i want to ask you, how about your impression after using LG G Pro 2 ex: after a month
Any issue or problem after use LG G Pro 2?i want to buy this phone, but i confused because the information about this phone is not very lack, not like LG G3. So maybe you guys can help give your opinion.
Thanks a lot
I came from a white G2 and have had my white g pro 2 for about 3 months and i love it, if you dont mind the size..
Its camera is awesome like the g2's (same as the g2's just faster focusing and better ois and 4k if you need it) The g pro 2 has a much more powerful speaker (though i do like the G2's placement better when flat on a desk)
Basically its just a bigger G2!
-Few more things to add
the g2 has a brighter notification led
the g2 has 10x more developer support
the g pro 2 screen is very slightly less saturated than g2's but has slightly better viewing angles
the g pro 2 comes stock with multi-window
the g pro 2 has SD card slot and removable battery
The funny thing is im thinking of going back to a white g2 because:
better notification led
more manageable size
developer support
better speaker placement for notifications on desk, but much worse quality for music etc
Ive looked at getting the G3 but i like the look of white phones, especially on the front surrounding the screen and the g3 doesn't really have white bezels, also the quad hd screen is overkill and makes SD801 struggle, this is why i actually prefer the look & performance of the G2..
It is a pretty decent phone. Size is manageable, depending on individual's requirements. It is fast and smooth. Standby time is pretty good. I get consistently +/- 5 hours screen on time with a single charge. I wish I can have more, but the screen of FHD is sucking lots of juices.
Rooting is easy.
Chances are high that we are getting the lollipop update. Keeping our fingers crossed.
Bought it recently and fully satisfied by this beast.
Camera is better than my old G2, Screen quality is also better but battery timing is the area where g2 beats it. If its size doesn't bother you, then its hell of a phone for you.

After, I read your review. Basically, LG G Pro 2 is a good smartphone. Many improvement in LG G Pro 2 from G2. I have thought to buy G3 too, but many opinion said that the battery not quite good and like you said that quad hd screen make SD801 struggle. Maybe, i will think it again to choose. any issue after you use lg g pro 2 after 3 months? Thanks for your review, leonclement

After i read the review from three of you, it seem lg g pro 2 is a good phone, people are satisfied after use this phone. althought it will compare to g2. hehe
For battery, maybe g2 is the best.
Thanks for your review,AamirXtreme
I bought this phone 5 months ago, and it was money well spent. Not a single moment of regret since i have this phone. Of course there are still pros and cons, which i will try to list.
Pros:
1. Excellent processor. I have never feel any excruciating lag from using this phone. Even after i play heavy games like modern combat, the phone doesnt show much lag
2. Ample RAM. This phone is quite future proof because it gives 3gb of RAM, thats why i love multitasking with this phone using LG's own windowed app
3.Excellent camera. This phone has a great camera. It can compete with the likes of g3, s5, even z3 and 6plus.
4. Screen size. I love watching hd movies on the go on this phone, the pictures are clear, the colors are spot on.
5. Big battery. From the time i wake up at 6 am, till i sleep at 11 pm, this phone usually still have >15% battery after a whole day of chatting plus 3d gaming and g+.
Cons:
1. Outdated processor by todays standard. Dont get me wrong though, this is still a very potent processor for all your need.
2. Large size. Its not that big for me, i can still use it 1 handed normally, but if you have small.hands, it might give you trouble, even though it has one handed mode.
3. Macro shot coulb be better. This is the only flaw i see from the camera
4. Less support in xda than other lg phones.
Hope this helps you decide, because IMO, you wont regret using this beast.
Absolutely agree with pros. Not deal breakers to me the cons.
Best device I've ever buyed until now.
Best phablet ever !!!
LG has posted a YouTube reveal that seems to reveal specific LG G6 features ahead of next month's prospective unveiling.
I make a short lists about the rumours big Specs:
1. 4K 5.7 Inch OLED DISPLAY
2. come with water-proofing and fast wireless charging
3. dual-lens camera
4. Snapdragon 835, quick charge 4.0
5. Affordable Price: $500-600
Is there any other pecs? Will you update to LG G6?
Not unless its rootable, and if all the other devs jump ship, so am I.

Hell no. No way!!! No removeable battery...no thanks!!! And there's no way it'll be 5.7" more like 5.3". Nah, this phone is a beast...best of all worlds for me. LOVE it more than my old favorite, ancient Note 3! BUT...supposedly it comes with a "flexible screen". Let's see.

5.7" has already been confirmed
If 1-4 are true, then 5 is not.
Nothing is confirmed until it gets released. There is no that all of that info is correct. I just doesn't make sense for that price.
Yeah... It is a no go for me lol. Who knows. Maybe by when it releases, android will not be rootable anymore. Rather play it safe and planning on keeping the v20 for at least 4 years ?
I have no plan to get G6.
V20 will be for 2-3 years as the hardware won't be obsolete too soon.
I want all the rumored specs PLUS A BIGGER BATTERY than V20. Then i'll switch.
It's too early to make a final decision. The info about the G6 is limited with only some details confirmed while the rest is speculation.
That said, the gap in hardware between the V20 and the G6 would be fairly limited or incremental (for example Snapdragon 820 vs 835). I personally don't expect the G6 to have the special features that are unique to the V line such as the Quad DAC and second screen, among others. Those are more important to me than a slightly faster processor, water resistance and wireless charging.
The only thing that I do want is an improved camera setup which I expect we will see on the G6. (Especially low light performance and the front camera - 5MP on the v20 is too low)
Once it finally launches the question will be, is the G6 a worthy upgrade over the V20? I doubt it.
Would it be a worthy upgrade over he G5? Based on the rumours so far, I would say yes.
I would swap to it only because I prefer smaller phones and waterproof would be nice. However I'm only paying 4 bucks a month for the v20 so unless some special like that comes around, I'll stick to the v20.
G6 is too far out to believe ALL the rumors. And no swappable battery and no guarantee of unlockable bootloader are no gos for me. And I think the 835 will be a noticeable improvement but only if they put fast enough flash in it. And what's wrong with wireless charging display side down? Metal unibodies with no battery cover are terrible intentional obsolescence designs. And the lame sauce phones can be repurposed for weak reasons is hogwash. Think people need to look up the environmental effects of phone recycling. See how China is ruining certain places to redo e rare earth metals and how to recycle them. Batteries only last so long until you have to use them plugged them in, if the battery doesn't swell before then.
I'd be fine with all of that except for the 4k screen. There's no need and it would absolutely KILL the battery.
Why would I update this V20 is a beast. It does everything I want and more!

Probably G6 will become G Flex... another failure.
There is a photo going around now of the top half of the g6 and it looks really nice. Rumor is they went with an all glass and metal design and no more removable back, has super thin bezels, and is waterproof, and a 5.7in display.
http://www.theverge.com/2017/1/23/14363314/lg-g6-photo-leak-android-smartphone-flagship-mwc
Another rumor going around that it will have a Snapdragon 821 because Samsung is hoarding all of the initial supply of Snapdragon 835s for the S8. Definitely don't want a Snapdragon 821 in 2017.
Mine is a Platinum Grey, Got it from B&H for 650$, with freebies like AVODA screen protector & AVODA semi transparent Case. I also got the headphones which came in the box, where I thought non carrier G7s wouldn't have the headphones included. Awesome pricing by LG for a 2018 flagship, because, the upcoming LG V40 wouldn't be affordable for more than 6 months due to it's launch. Been a fan of LG for a few years such that other brands aren't exciting as LG and I will always stick to LG forever due to it's innovation (not copying others) & I hope future LG flagships wouldn't be underrated as the current. Was coming from an LG G4. Sadly LG doesn't unlock bootloader except on US & EU single SIM variants, so I might be one of the few Indian customers to own US Unlocked variant, (Very impatient that EU has root as well as bootloader unlock and it's been 2-3 months, the G710ULM hasn't got bootloader unlock!). Aware of the launch date of the G710ULM was on 11th July, I was expecting official bootloader from LG in 1 month's time i.e mid August 2018!. Did LG stop supporting US unlocked since the LG V30?? Because before the V30, the previous US models got official unlock!. I was on V10B on unboxing the hyped beast, now currently on V10F (Android Security Patch is JULY 2018).
THE FIRST IMPRESSIONS ARE AMAZING. ALSO MIND BLOWING.
The DISPLAY is super crisp, incredibly bright under bright conditions. Superior viewing angles with ZERO color distortion and screen bleed. Wow, kudos to LG for such a display. MLCD I prefer over to AMOLED.
The SOUND from the BOOMBOX speakers is stunning clear and loud, hardly some distortion at max. I also tested the DTS X 3D Surround when connecting to the wireless Bluetooth headphones. Wow it offers an audio experience that had stunned my friends who were foolish Samsung fanboys.
PERFORMANCE, One of the fastest in 2018, is the Speed You Need. not the overrated One Plus 6, I prefer the LG UX over Stock Android, it's close to Stock Android but with more features, the Samsung Experience or TouchWiz is ugly, laggy, cartoonish UI. LG UX for the win. The beast is smooth and snappy and will improve better with software updates. If the damned LG had unlocked the bootloader, the devs would give us custom kernels, play with the CPU Governors, imagine getting even better smooth performance from a rooted device. Also full control of it. Devs please allow us to utilise the beast with more freedom since we paid full price for it. I personally don't like custom ROMS like Lineage , a stock custom ROM with custom kernel together would be incredible. I'm waiting for root for G710ULM, waiting, waiting, waiting! (Settings/Developer Options/ tick on "Force GPU Rendering" & "Disable HW Overlays" makes the beast smoother, snappier.
BATTERY LIFE is incredible, yes I vary between 5-6 hours of SOT (also AccuBattery app states between 5.30-6 hours, so it's almost accurate), better than expected, a big 6.1 MLCD with WRGB display is supposed to be battery greedy, we all know LG optimises battery life, software performance, camera, everything better than it's competitors. It's no LED display, but LG did it's wonders. The charge speeds is just rapid, but it's no DASH CHARGE. A heavy user here, I have not noticed lesser battery life with Facebook installed, no complaints from a 3000 mAh but if I owned Galaxy S9, it's little worse than 2018's best. Wonder what will LG V40 gives?
CAMERA is smart and addictive to use, the stock AI cam understands your needs before shooting a picture, Low light shots? The Super Bright Camera at very dark conditions blew me, I have no problem with the principle the 4 pixels combining to UltraPixel resulting to lesser detail, but compensates to epic low light shots. Then I downloaded GCam from cstark27 at XDA, the details are even equal or better than the King Google Pixel 2 XL, I feel it can compete with the upcoming Pixel 3, who knows. The wide angle of the GCam (Google Camera) makes me go crazy, just love the LG G7 even more! On both modes, there's no loss in detail at picture zoom. Easily mind blowing.
The biometrics such as Face Unlock or Finger Print scan. They are super fast, not any millescond of delay. To my joy, I watched some of the downloaded videos from YouTube at 4K60 FPS, the viewing is insane! The Snapdragon 845 is a monster. Some of you complaint of LG's slow updates such no 4K60 FPS recording, I found it at video's manual mode, I hope for timely updates from LG, like smoother software, 4K60 at auto mode etc. I love the AOD, wished it was a little brighter, the quick controls of the AOD like torch is convenient. For a faster LED notification blink, app called "Light Flow" works well. If there was root, BBS app can help us find out the wakelocks, on what's draining the battery. So, people, stop complaining that your model didn't get root etc. Do some research and get either USA or EU single SIM from LG. Make the full use of it. Helps us understand our devices even better.
So this is the perfect smartphone before the launch of the LG V40. Period! :highfive:
Ha ha, you're such a buttlicker.

I have had my ULM for 5 months, which is me leaving the Pixel 2(not XL).
Battery life is/was almost double that of my P2.
Mine did not have the screen bleed issue i read about AFTER ordering lol
Screen quality is nice, camera quality sucks compared to the P2, along with if you are trying to grab a fast pic of something before you miss it, there is a huuge delay from the button to saving the pic. I have missed a lot of shots due to that.
Not happy that the ULM is STILL 8.0 and no root...Would love a root with a clean non LG rom
Aside from that, i still love my g7 more than the P2 (though the p2 Ui was more responsive and scrolling was smoother)
(although i have a P3 XL coming monday to replace the g7 lol)
LG G7 Thin Q features - how to?
1. Pls advise what texting app to use that has a "undo send" feature?
2. To sync the phone with laptop computer, must both devices be LG products?
3. Any suggestion for "calendar" that is NOT Google controlled and NOT on the Cloud?
New to LG, thanks for any help
Can G7 US version bootloader be unlocked?

you should definitely help us crack this bad boy then! Ppl are crossflashing with octopus box and I think we almost have the correct dll files for other methods,
We should be able to generate a false key after we crossflash then, flash our carriers modems through twrp. The tmobile thread is leading the way.

Does google pay works for you on ULM device ?
I've had my G7 for a couple of weeks taking advantage of the Google Fi Black Friday price (350) and upgraded from a Pixel 1. Form factor and screen is great however I still much prefer AMOLED. Its running 8.0 which does feel like a step backwards and security patch level is September 2018. The UI isn't overly burdensome although I much prefer stock Android. I also think the extra LG stuff slows down the phone as subjectively its just not as fluid. I've installed Pixel Dark theme and Rootless launcher which I prefer. I'm not thrilled with the sound quality of the earpiece on phone calls, probably because the speaker is quite small. I'd love to see this phone with an Android One ROM and maybe if LG ever releases a bootloader unlock it will happen. In many ways it reminds my of my old Nexus 5x with a longer screen. Perhaps I'll think better of it when/if LG ever updates the phone to 9.0 although at this point I view it as just a holding pattern until 2019 devices are released.

Hi,
Tbh that would be a downgrade. Seeing the spec sheet, the experience would be pretty less pleasant on OP side (expect for that sweet 90Hz, I like it, but it's not amazing, don't buy a phone just to try the 90Hz)
If you still wanna get the OP8, here are pros:
- Lots of ROMs and Kernels
- Long lasting phones due to the support from the devs
- 90Hz display
Here's one con if you care about that : OnePlus is a Chinese brand, more and more people have (justified or unjustified, not getting political here) trust issues with Chinese devices.
Other cons:
- Smaller battery (4200 vs 5000)
- no headphone jack
- camera setup is very very bad compared to LG
- Lower screen res
- No OLED screen
- No IP rating (but it seems to be a bit water resistant, you can dip it into water, but if you hit lower than 1 m deep, your phone is most likely dead)
I personally think the v60 might be better, especially if you get the dual screen case. I personally had a V20 and loved it. You might lose some software updates and longevity though.
LG is much better. Especially with the camera. Lgs cams are really good and OnePlus cameras are incredibly "meh" with the stupidest damn camera software you could imagine . But it works for point and shoot, just enough.
However, unless I'm missing something new, the v60 you cannot root, which is the only reason I've been running the OnePlus devices since the v30 to the 6T
I owed the v60... Actually just sold it last week and I regret selling it. Camera's better, screen is better and has better battery life.
OnePlus 8 wins in software and 90 Hertz refresh rate... Which is very noticeable.

So this is probably the worst display I have seen in a phone in years.
Little back story here. Right now I have 2 phones, one is up for sale on Swappa (OnePlus 9 Pro) which is a long story on why I'm selling it, and my temporary daily driver is a Motorola Power 2021. I got Moto because the 9Pro was unusable at the time and I needed something quick and cheap to hold me over until I figured out a long-term solution. Yea, 1st world issues here. lol
Well, once I fired up the Moto Power, I absolutely loved it but it just wasn't powerful enough and I knew I needed a bit more memory and a slightly faster CPU. So when the Edge was announced, I thought, well hell, I'll sell the 9Pro and grab an Edge. This would leave my Power as a backup to me and my family.
Anyway, I unboxed the Edge, powered it one and began the setup. About 30 seconds into the setup I realized the display is worse than the $200 Power. Heh. Screw this I'm returning the phone.
So what's wrong with the display? First of all the off-axis is horrid. Anything over 20 degrees, it dims out and the colors shift. On-axis, I see nothing but a halo effect that was the norm of LCD displays from 2010, like the OG droid, which gave me a headache.
I really wanted to like this phone, and I think I would have if it wasn't for the display. I didn't get a chance to mess with it before purchase, so there is that. I wouldn't have bought it if I had hands-on with it first.
So not sure where I'm going from here. I guess unlist my 9pro and deal with it's issues until they fix their crappy firmware or maybe a Pixel 5a, but I'm old and need a larger display. Maybe another Moto like the the G Stylus or the Edge 2020. I just know I will be window shopping next time.
I just wanted to share my experience. I hope everyone enjoys this device, it's just not for me.
Cheers!
Thanks for your input. That's what was worrying me, was the display. I think I'll look else where.
If anyone has any specific questions regarding the display, or anything where it doesn't require inserting a SIM, let me know. I'm still waiting to get confirmation from Motorola about returning the device, so I have time to do testing for those who are curious.
I have one question for anyone out there that can answer, as I'm not very knowledgeable on display technologies that aren't AMOLED...
The comparison chart on Motorola's website show the following for display technologies:
Motorola Edge (2021) - LCD, 8-bit, 144Hz refresh rate, Up to 576Hz touch latency
The Cheap Moto G Power (2021) - Simply says: IPS
and then the two phones I'm interested in, the Stylus and the One 5G Ace both indicate LTPS displays.
Okay so I know that the LCD display the Edge has; my eyes are not fond of.
The Moto G Power has IPS, I feel is quite nice. It's not AMOLED, and when turned sideways while wearing polarized glasses, of course turns the display black.
What's up with LTPS??! I've never heard of this technology before. Is this better or worse than LCD and or IPS?
Thanks!
Liking mine
Screen is IPS and the viewing angle is like One Ace
144Hz rate doesn't have much benefit due to LCD/IPS response time
Set to automatic is the best bet

LTPS is Low-Temperature PolySilicon. A substrate the LCD is manufactured onto. It is still an IPS LCD screen, just manufactured using a different process that also has the benefit of making it easier to create LCDs with a higher pixel density. It also improves the display's power consumption over older IPS LCDs.
The screen on my Edge 2021 is just like the screen on my previous phones that use IPS LCDs, be it LTPS or not. If the Edge screen bothers you but other IPS LCD displays do not, then I think it's your device that is the problem and not the technology itself.
I'm extremely flicker sensitive and avoid using AMOLED screens. The Edge's screen is nice for me to look at.
