[Completed] How do I flash a custom kernal? - XDA Assist

I've installed Cyanogenmod on my LG Leon and it came with a folder what was supposed to be a custom kernal but I have no idea how to install/flash it.

Thanks for using XDA Assist.
Can you post the link of your rom thread? Custom kernels are usually flashed from a custom recovery (TWRP, PhilZ Touch...) but some of them have to flashed from a computer or a specific app (.img files).

Yes there is. However, the available recoveries are not up to flashing it.

For now it is early versions unfit for use. Even after the flash, the system is in the animation.

Yes. And you migh try the "Preview ROM" on the other thread. Reported as booting, but nothing works. Try trimming it.
yes, there are 2 4.4 flashable rom in mediafire folder below, in my link
I am using this 4.4 ROM and it works pretty smooth. Give it a try!

[RECOVERY] TWRP 2.6.3.3 (with selinux support)

I made a port of twrp for our m4. unzip the folder and flash the .img in fastboot. tested and working flawlessly.
Thanks to Team Win Recovery Project Team for an awesome recovery. flash away
Does this flash cm-11.0 properly?

I don't have the device so I can't try it myself.

yeah it works but its not perfect.lol.. the non touch cwm i made works the best
So what do you recommend TWRP OR CWM......!

Correction!!! Originally tried in recovery mode, then saw it needed to be done in fastboot, but it seems my m919 S4 doesn't support fastboot, Any other suggestions to get this recovery?

You need to flash the root files too through recovery AFTER FLASHING the ROM as stated in the OP of the ROM's thread.

You need at least an unlocked bootloader to flash the kernel with fastboot.
You can find a howto in the description of the youtube video.
But you need to backup your data, because unlocking the bootloader will delete your data

It is possible that it will work on cm12.0 based roms too, but not on cm12.1

You can flash it on stock cos12. It has support for multirom, but you don't need to use it

Yes you can replace this kernel with flashing another kernel

The changes are the touchscreen firmware in the kernel and the hardboot support.

How do you expect to wipe,format,install and backup roms without recovery? Search for cm12.1 from @zim555 at 4pda forums.

No... only stock roms can install from odin, all custom rom install on custom recovery like twrp or cwm.
You can find here a tutorial to root, install recovery and flash custom rom.
