Is anyone else rooted hiding their navigation bar/soft keys?
I tried adding "qemu.hw.mainkeys = 1" to the buildprop but I'm getting a crazy amount of wakelocks as a result from Android OS which is draining my battery 1-2%/min. Are there any non-battery draining alternatives?
hmm - for me it works but you may try gmd auto hide soft keys
For me it works, too. I do not want the Softkeys, but it is possible to open Recent Apps with on another Way?

Did both of you add "qemu.hw.mainkeys = 1" to the build.prop?
If yes, what are the 2 top system apps using battery power?
I've found that All in one Gestures is a good app to use for gestures to replace recent apps and back buttons

At me the same. The line was present and i have only delete the 0 and add the 1.
All in One Gestures is good. I have make two Gestures for Back and Recent Apps. On my Samsung Galaxy S4 Mini i had installed GMD Gestures. Great App, but it is a Xposed App. And Xposed is not working on HTC One A9. Hope in Future it will works.

Quick question
Is it posible to do away with the Software keys entirely and remap the capacitive fingerprint reader to access Google Now on Tap via long press and recent apps via double press? The way I see it, 99% of apps offer a back button on the top left corner so the need for a constant back button at the bottom is archaic and can be left out. Would rooting also be needed?

If you want to permanently remove the navigation bar you need to root and edit the build.prop file. Find the line "qemu.hw.mainkeys = 0" and change the 0 to a 1. This will tell the OS that your phone has hardware keys. You will need another app, like All in One Gestures for examples. for hotspots and gestures for the back and multi-tasking buttons. I think we need xposed if we want to remap buttons, so I don't think that's possible at the moment.
Changed "qemu.hw.mainkeys = 0" to "qemu.hw.mainkeys = 1" in the build.prop and I'm experiencing battery drain again...

As you can see, there is very annoying status bar at the bottom of the screen in Android tablet. It changes your screen resolution and makes screen smaller. My question is how to hide it, to make it auto-hide as the status bar (at the top) of the Android phone

I think you cannot hide because you dun have the home key . If you want to close the application you need the back key .
theres prolly is a way..maybe a different launcher(past experience with my phone) or gotta root and get an app for it.
but there is no IMPOSSIBLE in android....sorta...

Thanks guy for response. I mean I dont want to hide it permanently. When need, we can touch somewhere on screen to reveal it (like "auto-hide the taskbar" on the Windows)

gmd gesture control root is what you want in the store. there is a support thread on xda too. you can show or hide the bar by making a gesture.
I highly recommend hiding the bar and using button savior from.the store to navigate easily if you need back home etc too

Notifications Bar at the top??/
I have many problems with this particular tablet because my hands typically are hold it around the bottom. When holding it or writing notes I am constantly pressing this or that button on the bar and was wondering, is there any way to put the bar at the top of the screen? I personally think that would be way better for accidental touches. Any body have any ideas??? Hiding it is fine, but I would like to just move it.

Not that I recall, there may be a setting for it, not sure. There is a setting to assign the status bar tho a up or down swipe.
Personally I use up to toggle the status bar & down swipe to toggle my dock.

LOL beat me too it with your edit. You'd think this type of option would be standard to android to be fair.
Actually we don't want gestures. We want a timer and touch event.
http://stackoverflow.com/questions/6728591/can-not-hide-status-bar
Isn't it possible to start a service that catches touch events, sets a timer and hides the tablet statusbar when the timer ends?
In systemUI of ICS there is in TabletStatusBar.smali:
.field public static HIDE_TABLET_STATUSBAR:Z = false
and
com/android/systemui/statusbar/tablet/TabletStatusBar;->HIDE_TABLET_STATUSBAR:Z
Anyone?
Cheers

nice one aartv! that app is bang on what i wanted to get rid of that pesky task bar!, thanks given
I have tried full!screen a while ago and recommended it to other users too.
But it would be nicer to have something like windows had, hide taskbar, you know the hiding taskbar if your mouse was not at the bottom. But then with a timer based on user input.
Perhaps someone can make that? I will ask the creator of full!screen. Must be a killer app then. So many people want to get rid of that tablet taskbar.
Cheers

Make the change in the OP in the build.prop files using a text editor on the device.
This worked fine and I was able to turn off the lights on the capacitive keys. Is there a way to disable the capacitive keys?
does anyone know how to make the left hard key menu and long press for open apps? (Swap its default setup)
Nvm figured it out.
If you're rooted:
Go to system > usr > keylayout, and open generic.kl with a text editor, find keys 158 and 254 and put a "#" sign in front of both. Save the file and reboot phone. Then go to settings and disable the light.

I am trying to switch the function of the soft keys. I want a single press to be the "menu" key like it always was and make the long press be the apo switcher. I found App_switch and Menu assigned to button numbers and switched them but all it did was disbale to button. If you have any ideas please respond in here or PM me. Yeah, I've never really altered the softkeys through build prop edits. I know there are some Xposed modules to alter the softkeys. Might want to check that out.
Put a # in front of keys 158 and 254 once you enable soft keys, This compltely disables the back button and recent buttons at the bottom of the phone. I also disabled the lights for them in settings too.
To enable soft keys you have to type in that line the OP listed at the bottom of the text file.
(You can actually type it anywhere as long as it's on a new line and doesn't have a # in front of it)

Hi, I would like to share an interesting find about an app which adds a flashlight option to our Qslide in the LG G2.
The app is called as QTorch on google play store[Link].
It is a free app and very light weight.
You do not loose on ram and it works beautifully. Simply install it and you will get a Qtorch option in your Qslide app bar.
The app does not add an icon to the Stock LG Home app drawer nor does it allow a widget but simply adds a toggle for flashlight in Qslide. If you use another launcher, it might put an app drawer icon or a widget. But in Stock LG Home Launcher app stays hidden and available in list of Qslide Apps.
App does not even stay in running processes.
I hope you guys enjoy this find. Thanks to the developer who gave us a nice option to make qslide useful

that button combination is imho the best one i ever seen for taking a screenshot on a mobile phone... just when i remember how it was on my old one with power button at the top and volume button on a side - real pain...
but i can understand if you have smaller hands, it can be less confortable...
another ways screenshot can be taken (using g3 or g2 tweakbox)
1. from a power menu
or
2. long pressing one of the navigation bar shortcuts (i.e. recents) to take a screenshot (eventhough that doesn't work for me on lollipop)

Like mentiond above, easiest way is to press home button and power button simultaneously. You have to press and hold them at the same to to make it work. If you first press the home button and half a second later the power button, then it won't work. The swipe-to-screenshot gesture is more difficult to use for me as I sometimes need a second attempt to make the screenshot.
How to take a screenshot on the Samsung Galaxy S7
If you're rooted it would be readily available when you long press the power button. A window will pop up giving you one of many options and one of them is a screenshot command. Which will exit out the window and take a screen shot of your current screen. Pretty damn useful.

yea man it has some great features for sure. I like your wu reference btw.
3 finger swipe for Nougat screen shot is idiotic
The 3 finger down swipe, in addition to needing two hands and 3 fingers, usually scrolls down whatever screen you're on before the image is captured. Was very annoyed until I found that screen shot could still be added to the power button options. I stand corrected.
OP3 Button Mods
OP3 Button Mods currently adds the missing "Open/close menu" to button actions. I am planning on adding an option to replace the single-press behavior of either Recents or Back button with Menu button as well, though that won't be in the first release. There are two options to install this mod: Xposed module OR modded Settings.apk.
Current mods:
Add "Open/close menu button action"
Link to SuperSU in Settings (only modded apk for now!)
Link to Layers Manager in Settings (only modded apk for now!)
TODO:
Change Recents/Back button behavior to Menu button
Suggestions??
Requirements:
Root access
Optional: Xposed Framework (Only with module)
Installation:
Option 1: Xposed module (Xposed Framework required!)
Download Xposed module
Install module, activate it & reboot device
Done
Option 2: Modded apk (root required!)
Backup current Settings.apk from system/priv-app/Settings
Download modded Settings.apk from attachments
Replace original apk with the modded apk (system/priv-app/Settings)
Change permissions to rw-r-r & reboot device
Done

Thanks for your share, I'm sure it will help many op3 users (this phone looks really nice).

You could try the Xposed module on your OPX too. I'm quite sure it would work.

i can't ask for more. thanks.
Thanks for this! Installed. Not sure how OP missed this...
actually, now that i see it, this is not exactly how i'm used to use my hardware buttons, coming from a samsung.
left:
short tap: menu
long tap: nothing i think, but i had configured it to change to the last opened app using gravitybox.
home button works the way i am used to it
short: desktop
long: recents
right:
short: back
long: kill app in foreground
bummer that you can't remap buttons using gravitybox
Can you add open notifications to the buttons as well? Good work so far.

It says in the OP that I'm looking to implement the Recents button to work as Menu button, but right now I have only added the action (long press or double tap).

Hi great work i really like it. While using it i noticed that it dont work on all apps. On some apps pressing the button simply do nothing.
working apps: totalCommander, maps, chrome, contacts, boxer email, locus map, qr droid, smartools, titanium backup, waze, windfinder.
not working apps: mortplayer, mindwallet*, officesuite pro, blueterm*, quickpic, telephone, zatoo tv.
Is anyone else having problems with these apps?. What i found out is that also other remapping apps like button remapper wont work with this apps.
*EDIT: the update to OOS 3.2.0 changed nothing.
You need root to do this?

Yes. I'll update OP to mention that once I get home.
The great thing with OnePlus is that they don't void warranty because of root.

Thanks for the thorough testing! the way how I implemented this mod was to only add it as an option in the drop down menu. The Java code was always there waiting to get called.
Why OnePlus didn't enable it? - that idk, but just maybe they noticed the same as you, it not working with all apps. Just maybe ?
What comes to button remapper, I don't know why it refuses to work as I haven't checked the source for it. If you use my modded apk way instead of xposed module, they should work together.

I use 'Xposed Additions' for this. It allows to remap each button. You can define an action for a single/double/triple/long press. Works fine on my OP3.
My layout:
- single back: open menu
- double home: open recents
- single recents: back
- long recents: FC current app
- long vol down: prev track
- long vol up: next track
- single vol up and vol down: toggle play/pause
