While I have found tons of tutorials for rooting various models of the s5, I haven't found mine yet. Here's the details:
Galaxy s5
model: SC-04F
carrier: NTT Docomo (Japan)
android 5.0 Lollipop
kernel version: 3.4.0-5605451
KNOX version: 2.3
Admittedly I am in over my head. It's my first time attempting a root and this model seems to be a tricky one. In my search I found a few automated solutions for the SC-04F model of gs5, but they were all meant for android 4.4.2. I decided to give it a try despite this difference (not a good idea, I'm sure). This method revolved around flashing with Oden using a CF-Auto Root file. Oden flashed the device, restarted it and gave me the green "passed" notification. After flashing I used Root Checker to verify, and sure enough it was rooted.
So far so good, but then I opened SuperSu (which installed as part of the automated flash) and it needed to update binaries. I tried the "normal" installation method, which failed, and then did some reading that suggested updating the SuperSu app from the Play Store. It did need an update, so I updated. This changed nothing. Just out of curiosity I check Root Checker again, and all the sudden I was no longer correctly rooted.
I have tried repeating the flash process from the beginning to no success. I haven't been able to root it since. Nor have I been able to use SuperSu to "Full Unroot" the device. I would like to have one or the other; establish root or completely unroot. I seem to be somewhere in the middle and it's very frustrating.
Any pointers?

I made another thread about this but found this section and decided it was a better area to post.
Well I tried using Odin to flash my phone before rooting and now I get an error that says "Unauthorized actions have been detected. Tap here for more information."
I have the Verizon S4 and im just looking for some help on getting a quick root to my phone. TowelRoot doesn't seem to be supported by my phone.

Yes, similar things happened for the TowelRoot on the S5 too.
Here is the Verizon Samsung Galaxy S 4 General [HOW TO] [ROOT] [APK] Root for NC5 OTA (All Kitkat devices) without PC!!! thread.
It also refers to TowelRoot app, which only works on older firmware versions ... unfortunately no longer on latest versions. (As they have the respective exploit patched.)
And the Verzion S4 has a locked bootloader. That's why you can't flash a custom recovery etc. with Odin.
A possibe solution coud be to "downgrade" to an older firmware (or kernel) and then root it with TowelRoot.
EDIT: I see that you have already asked in the Verizon Samsung Galaxy S 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting forum.
That's the right place. Be patient and wait for a better advice from there.
Thread closed and thank you.
I got a new phone because my iphone 5 got stolen and it was jailbroken and when I got my samsung device I decided I want to root it. Upon research and countless hours on how to root my phone I got nothing. I guess i'm new when it comes to rooting and i'm trying my best to learn as much as possible.
Anyways, I've tried Kingo Root and it keeps failing, i've tried King root (2 different applications of king root) When I open the app it says Root Acess is unavailable and on the bottom of the app it says Root strategy available, just try it and there is a button asking to try to root. And then it goes to 16% then goes up slowly and then it jut says root failed no strategy retry. Sometimes the app closes out and my homescreen is all black.
I've heard of odin but I've never tried it, if anybody could help me out on rooting my device that would be great.
Model Number: SAMSUNG-SM-G900A
Running android 5.0
The baseband version is G990AUCU4BOF3

Hope this helps, and good luck!
Long story short, I have a galaxy s3 (sch-s968c) for straight talk. I can't figure out how to root it. I've tried towel root, no luck. Kingo root said it succeeded but would stop on the odin screen and I got worried and popped the battery out. No luck with cydia impact, wouldn't find my phone in my pc. Framaroot wouldnt work. Please, any help would be appreciated.
Since towelroot did not work, I expect that you have the baseband version ending in H2 (you can check this in settings->about device). This means that you will have to install a custom recovery. I recommend TWRP (download S968C version here). After you install the recovery, simply flash the superuser zip through TWRP.
You can find lots more information about this process in these forums.
I have been trying to root Lenovo-phab-pb1-750m and referred here http://forum.xda-developers.com/general/xda-assist/root-root-help-lenovo-phab-pb1-750m-plus-t3427518. Well so many deivices in the market are stable to root, why rooting would cause so many problems with this device. Is it dependent on the exploit or the method to gain root access so that device should remain stable to root, without any malfunction. Mine I have experienced hardware keys volume down and power button not responding trying after kingroot. Kingroot which modifies the stock recovery, we will not be able to accept OTA Updates after trying this. I got the issue fixed from an ASC as when I tried reflash using qfil I got sahara error and ended in bootloop.
My main concern is to gain root and it should with full support of su binaries with busy box. Many times it is required to unlock bootloader and install custom recoveries for this I didn't mind doing it. But there is no support officially nor in XDA. But I found one thread here http://www.unlock-bootloaders.racing/2016/10/lenovo-phab-8142.html not sure they are referring to this model but they are referring to XDA site but I can't find it in this site. Are they referring to this model lenovo-phab-pb1-750m in the above thread and can I try it on my device model.
However, I noticed that there is one latest method called systemless root here http://www.xda-developers.com/chainfire-releases-root-for-android-6-0-without-modifying-system/, Hence I want to upgrade to Android 6 and unlock its bootloader to try this. please advice how I can go about. In the mentioned link http://www.unlock-bootloaders.racing/2016/10/lenovo-phab-8142.html there is a method given to unlock the bootloader not sure this is for this model and am running lollipop version 5.1.1. Please check and provide me some info.
Alright so i tried to root my S7 cause i thought it would be as straight forward as putting CFW on my DS. I was wrong lmao. so i followed this guide and i did everything in order and how it was supposed to be done. SU did not install and when i did rootchecker it said it did not install root correctly. now i have a phone that forgets the wifi password everytime i turn it ON from being OFF and buggy things like a messed up playstore that does not install apps correctly.
SM-G930P is my model number
G930PVPU2APC5 is my baseband version
running android 6.01
Please help me out!
