How to flash another kernel over franco - Nexus 5 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I have a nexus 5 running marshmallow Stock ROM rooted with Franco kernel and xposed framework installed. When I was on lollipop ,if I had to change kernels ,I would just flash the stock kernel using flashify and then flash custom kernel.
But now,i have Franco kernel running and I plan to flash code blue kernel. If I try to flash the stock kernel using flashify ,the phone won't boot, the Marshmallow boot Animation occurs infinitely. So what should I do? The superSU version is 2.52.
Please explain me the steps to flash code blue kernel. One the members suggested flashing superSU 2.61 but for that I need to flash the stock partition.I don't want to do that.Is there any workaround?
Thanks in advance

Flash stock System and Boot images, then flash code blue kernel. This is probably the safest solution, I don't know if there are many other options available.

Try flashing stock system.img and boot.img then blu_spark + SuperSU 2.61
EDIT: too late

Yes you will have to root again and install Xposed framework. You won't lose your modules though.
Use this to download the nexus 5 factory images: https://is.gd/84Nk59
Tutorials are availabe to know how to flash them with fastboot.

i want to upgrade my nexus to the latest version of google-marshmallow, is there any rom that it's just stock+root build in or there is option that i will install the stock from google + install afterwards the root cause i saw that chainfire isn't work so well on the last version (MRA58N)?
basicly all i need is to record calls and the control on the led light so if there is option to do these two without root so i will install the stock rom from google

Without root, just flash the google images or bat file if it works for you-never has for me. With root, I recommend Wugfresh NRT (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2517778). If you go with google, you need to alter the google bat file for no wipe. Don't run user data img if flashing each file. You still need to know basics in case you run into a problem. Be sure to make a backup through recovery. Sounds like you're on MM so you can run the "no wipe" mode. Follow directions as he presents them. Check the android development thread for roms.

first i'm in 4.4.4 but i want to upgrade ...and it's look like for these two things i need root, so how to install the root let's say i'm installing from the google developer site the last version ...what about the root?
thanks
First, I will recommend a complete wipe from LP to MM. To root, you need custom recovery which you flash from fastboot just like you flash stock recovery. Then, you need a modified stock kernel or a custom kernel. After flashing those, download latest SUPERSU, boot into recovery, flash the supersu apk (actually, I think the app will do this for you). This is exactly what the toolkit does for you which is why I recommend it. He pulls all the needed files for you and automates everything except actually rooting. He pushes the files to your device then boots you into recovery where you will flash the required files. His kit creates a log which you can submit if a problem occurs. You can read the thread about rooting, etc in general subforum. I'll get URL.

what to do next to make root?
as i read here http://forum.xda-developers.com/goo...e-update-rooted-device-to-5-1-lmy47d-t3050789
he doesn't recomend in these situation to install root...so what to do in my methood?
thanks

xposed on stock cm13?

Can we install xposed on the stock rooted cm13 nightly on this phone? Or do we have to install another ROM? This phone confuses me how its already rooted but there are still guides on how to root it.... and yes I have twrp.
yes you can use xposed on official cm13.. but be aware of the modules.. some are still not compatible with 6.0 and result in a bootloop

Two steps
Download and install this file as an apk
http://forum.xda-developers.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=3383776&d=1435601440
Download and flash this file from your custom recovery like TWRP
http://forum.xda-developers.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=3543418&d=1447616689
Now, you can install the supported list of xposed modules

You should now be rooted with Magisk.
Make sure you have TWRP 3.1.x from the twrp thread

Is it really that easy? i have mine rooted with TWRP 3.1, i can flash that file and I'll have magisk? I'm on the same HW/SW version as the OP.
since the Oreo is coming out, will I need to flash stock to get the Stock Oreo update when its released? I assume so. I am new to the Mates and they seem to have a much different flash method/path than the Nexus 6p and HTC devices i have done in the past. I'm kind of leery to pursue Installing ROM's and Magisk (never used it yet) but would like to. Any tips or links to detailed instructions for the Mate flashing? I cant find, what I feel, to be detailed instructions on XDA.
thanks

If you're rooted with SuperSU or Phh you will need to restore your stock boot image before flashing Magisk,
this can be done by downloading your firmware from http://pro-teammt.ru/firmware-database/ then extacting update.app and opening it in Huawei Update Extractor where you extract BOOT.IMG.
Flash it using fastboot flash boot boot.img.
As long as you're using firmware B182+ (Loop device support) and TWRP 3.1.x you can install official Magisk/SuperSU.
Oreo will be a full firmware so it shouldn't need to verify any partition, meaning you will only need to restore stock recovery.

Franco kernel will be released pretty pretty soon!!

The much awaited Franco kernel will be released sooner or later but the tweet says very soon
*flashing stock rom*
Glad it's compatible with stock.
How will this affect OTAs & is there a method to get OTA after flashing this kernel like there is Magisk?

You can't install OTA if you flash custom kernels
Finally it's Here...

I believe that we will be able to use OTA if we follow this sequence:
Stock ROM -> flash Magisk (creates backup of stock boot.img) -> flash Franco kernel
When OTA arrives, restore stock boot.img from Magisk, apply OTA, then reinstall Magisk to second slot, reboot. Install Franco kernel again. This way we shouldn't need to keep stock boot.img and PC with fastboot at hand. I will try it with next OTA.

Is stock recovery included in the flashable ZIP so I have to delete it or no stock recovery included so I can flash straight? Thank you very much!
I don't know why for only a security patch, they make a whole new 2GB file. Why not making it like windows? that we can download only the patch file, and install.
A question: Can we root it? Because usually it has stock recovery, and we can't install TWRP and magisk through stock recovery. I tried it a lot with 20N and couldn't.

No, there is no stock recovery included in the ZIP archives. If you have TWRP installed you can just flash the "COMPLETE" ZIP. If you flash the kdz you will get the stock recovery.
To gain root just flash SuperSU after flashing the ZIP before reboot.
Hey @DavidFlint
Thank you for the port. I'm currently downloading it.
I was wondering.. do you mind creating a step-by-step how-to guide for anyone willing to make a flashable zip from KDZ like yours?
It'll be very useful and it'll be really appreciated by the community.
In the future you might not have time to do it etc etc so someone else can work on it.
Thanks for considering it
Thank you very much for this!
I was looking around in TWRP Recovery file manager what apk it was that was blocking me from using the phone after unlocking bootloader but I gave up when I found this.
Just out of curiosity, is it just an app or is it more that blocks after unlock + factory reset?
Has anybody rooted with magisk? Will I get stock recovery when I flash the "complete" zip with TWRP? I come from fulmics ROM. Thanks in advance.

Thanks for your work - saved a lot of time to return to stock from Fulmics. Works great with Magisk too!
I hope you will do this again for future updates?
So based on research it seems I need to install the latest bootloader and modem on my phone to resolve a slow charging issue on resurrection remix 5.8.5.
Is it as simple as just flashing from within the latest TWRP or is this going to cause me to have to re-flash the OS, etc or unlock the bootloader again?

You won't lose anything - I did it on mine a year or so ago and it went smooth as butter
Just flash them in TWRP, it's basically an update and won't re-lock or wipe anything

If you want to keep twrp with the complete zip you have to install supersu/magisk or no-verity-opt-encrypt. Use this https://forum.xda-developers.com/lg-g5/development/stock-h850-20d-eu-rom-flashable-zips-t3592762 as a guide.

As quodet, the complete zip DON'T flash stock firmware, so something goes wrong with your phone. Try to flash it again.

Is normal: 2 popup with errors (one is about NTCODE, isn't it?):it's because the nationality of your phone is not the same (actually I don't know if it happens only when you make a "dirty update" from a firmware that is from your region, someone reported that using KDZ to flash first in "refurbished, than in "upgrade" will solve the problem), you have 2 solutions:
https://forum.xda-developers.com/lg-g5/how-to/cust-error-solution-t3507311 or the easyest one: make a backup of the CUST folder and delete what's inside!
